Getting plastics tomorrow!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yeh that's what they told me that for about a year or so, I may notice swelling without the binder. So they recommend I wear the binder throughout the year or abdomen may swell up. The binders that I use have been provided by them - the fabric velcro types. They can look a bit bulky over certain clothings. Or may be I can look into a faja post 8 months or so. Any specific type that you purchased? Amazon has many selections especially those waist trainer ones. I may ask Dr. Chivers on my 6 week f/u if corsets or shapewears can be used instead of the current binder. Let's see. Right now binder seems comfortable especially since the area is super hypersensitive! So far I think I am happy with the results. It was a painful recovery but I am glad lose skin especially the muffin top is taken care of and has flattened/tightened my tummy. I can't wait to wear shorts and jeans now. Some of the shorts and figure hugging dresses didn't look very good with my tummy area. Now they look lovely. I'll try more clothing as swelling goes down. Arms also look tonned and defined 💪🏽😂 So overall I am satisfied. Just waiting for dressing to come off and see how scars progress, the biggest challenge of this surgery! -
Treating saggy skin on the face
ms.sss replied to Dogmom68's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
i've had fillers: cheeks: 3-4 times (love it!) naso-labial: 2 times (second time i looked too puffy so didn't want to do that again) chin, under-eye: once each, didn't like the look. last time i did fillers (cheeks) was last october, and it's still very pleasing to me. i also do botox regularly, every 3-4 months, on my forehead & between my eyebrows. ...and i have botox on my masseter (jaw) muscles every 9-12 months. ...oh, and i tried botox on my neck once, but didn't see any significant improvement so didn't do it again. ----- Also tried 3 rounds of micro-needling on my neck, but again, deemed it not worth it so stopped. ---- If i wasn't such a historically BAD scar-er, i'd get a facelift today, but alas, I am. 😞 -

i was given the full go ahead for anything and everything (except alcohol) at 1 month post op. i didn't have any salads nor veggies at 1m post despite the all-clear cuz of food aversion issues...but that's another story. i think, if i remember correctly, i probably had my first go at raw veggies around 3 months (?) post-op and had zero issues.

So I’m struggling with the whole thought of loose skin. I’ve lost 60 pounds already. I’m 5’4. The gastric sleeve was a medical necessity not by choice I have an autoimmune disease. I was 280 now I’m 220 about 8 weeks post op. I was always comfortable in my skin. Now idk. I keep losing and I know that I won’t be able to afford plastics. TMI but I also have big boobs. Always have since high school when I was a skinny. Now I worry I’m just going to be a walking flab. Im getting insecure which is not like me at all. The struggle is real.

Questions about pregnancy after bypass
learn2cook replied to Summermoose's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I was post menopausal for my bypass. Two of my friends had sleeves with the purpose of having good health and getting pregnant. They both had had issues with PICOS and “advanced age” , over 35. One got pregnant through IVF and had a healthy girl who was born deaf, but has warmly knitted our community closer by making us all learn sign language. The mother regained her weight, BUT the dad had bypass recently and is quickly regaining his health. This family also celebrated HIGHLY the adoption of a daughter prior to the birth. Isn’t that how it always happens? I’m going to say, build your family the way it happens and don’t worry about it. I knew a single guy who worried about never having kids of his own, and his sister and brother-in-law died from a freak plane accident leaving him with two nephews to raise!!! The second mother successfully had her baby girl (she may be younger but I’m not going to ask) the “normal “ way. She did regain after the 3 yr mark, but quickly got back to track using hot yoga and a new business she started. Everybody retained their good health. Isn’t this about health and creating family? It’s going to happen one way or another, watch and see, worrying won’t make it better. GBY -
Sleeve to Bypass for GERD
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Keona1323's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had this done on the 28th of June. I had a full. I was told to stay on the PPI (at a way lower dose than I was on) for 4 weeks and then stop taking them. I can tell you, that at a week out and on half the dose I was on before, I already see a big difference. I couldn't have ever cut the PPI down for even a day. -

I had a hard time with the soft food phase too. I was REALLY looking forward to a deviled egg, but now eggs make me nauseous, and I was sick of yogurt. Mashed potatoes were allowed, but not encouraged because of the carbs, so I would have mashed potatoes with cheese or with unflavored protein powder and garlic every couple days and Tyson has a flavorful frozen chicken fajita that I heat with bone broth to make it moist and soft and chew the heck out of it. I got bored with refried beans really quick but adding taco sauce and cheese helped. If you like to cook (I don't) you can find a lot of things you can do with foods to make them more appealing. My phase 3 allowed meats other than beef, which was restricted to once a month. I was supposed to work up to it, but I added it pretty quick because I tolerated it well. Maybe you are allowed a turkey burger as long as you chew it really well? I'm the type of person who craves when I can't have something, so I have to allow myself little cheats. I find that as long as I CAN, I can resist better and don't get carried away with the cheating. For example, I craved salt and would occasionally suck on a salt and vinegar chip or 3 until dissolved. Those salt cravings are almost non existent now. Talk with your dietitian about your cravings and alternatives. I confessed to her about the chips and that I found a carb conscious tortilla that I'd use 1/2 of for my refried beans. She was OK with it as long as I showed restraint and tolerated it. Keep those food logs up and don't lie to your dietitian. Being accountable will help you stick to your diet. They are there to help you, not judge you. At the tail end of my phase 3 when they upped my calorie and protein goals she allowed me to add nuts as long as I chew it into peanut butter consistency.

Getting plastics tomorrow!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ms.sss how long did it take for your abdominal swelling to go down and feel normal enough?! Also, did you also wear the abdominal binder for about a year?! Dr. Chivers recommended wearing it 24/7 for 8 weeks and thereafter during the day and so for about a year! -
About the funny thing, it may be he no longer has the situations or comments as a larger person. Also, I know I am more grumpy right now adjusting and learning about what my body wants and needs at six Weeks out..

Spent the last 4 days at the lake. I tried a few new foods with no nausea. I was released to drink alcohol at 3-month post-op, so I tried 1 shot of Vodka mixed with sugar free cranberry juice at the recommendation of my nutritionist. Fresh air and sun. Boating, fishing. friends and family. Great fireworks show Sat. night. Sitting around the firepit till 3 am nursing my drink. I had 2. Nice little buzz without getting drunk or passing out as I've heard some WLS patients have experienced. Weighed myself when I got home and dropped 3 more pounds FTW. Happy 4th of July!!!

Treating saggy skin on the face
BabySpoons replied to Dogmom68's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I'm starting targeted C02 Cryo therapy next week. A friend runs the business and wants to document my progress for advertising to local bariatric patients so she's offering it free to me. Otherwise, it's pretty pricey. I still have a ways to go with my weight loss, but she wants to treat me as I lose instead of waiting to see how much loose skin I'm left with at goal weight. Despite the cost, people are willing to pay. She can't keep up with demand and recently had to hire a second tech. The before and after pictures that I've seen are amazing. Face , batwings, tummy etc. I'm willing to give it a go. Hopefully with good results. -
I don't eat iceberg lettuce, I was told to stay away from it; I was told to eat romaine lettuce, spinach, kale and becareful with carrots and broccoli. I had the duodenal switch almost 3 months ago and those leaves and the romaine I can keep down. Stephanie Ellis

Will I ever enjoy food again?
maintenanceman replied to Heatherhei's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The first few weeks (months) post-op are not at all indicative of what life with WLS is like. At this point, 16 mo post-op, I can eat and tolerate pretty much anything I want. The thing is, my tastes have changed so dramatically. I don't crave garbage food anymore. For breakfast, I used to eat chicken biscuits, fries, muffins, and other junk. This morning, I had a bowl of greek yogurt with banana, berries, and granola, and it was the most delicious thing ever. I could force feed myself the garbage breakfast, but I wouldn't enjoy it. Over time, you figure out your new anatomy and reshape your eating to accommodate it. Even now, almost a year and a half post-op, I'm still testing things out, seeing what works and what doesn't. That's the whole point of the surgery... to force you to make better choices. -
Food Before and After Photos
ms.sss replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
last night's dinner: Sashimi!!!! had 1 piece of each type except for the scallop and salmon cuz the Kid got to those before i did, lol. In total i had 6 pieces, estimated at probably 250 cals. Also, i ate all the Ikura (aka salmon roe/red caviar) off of the Kid's rice bowl cuz she says that eating Ikura feels like she's got "exploding fish-oil Pop Rocks" in her mouth! 😂😂😂😂😂 (she cracks me up) approx 3 tbsp of it for 120 cals. also had an extremely overpriced Shiso Margarita that was more straight-up sake-tasting than anything else 🤷🏻♀️ oh, and 1 slice of beef tataki. In all i figure all cals for dinner added up to about 575 calories for the night. -
Pals, Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and wisdom. You have given me so much to think about that I have decided to cancel my consult scheduled next week. Very true that the experience my sister endured has a major influence on my hesitancy. You've also shared information I did not know about, such as the bypass may be reversible and the Reshape vest that may be an option down the road. I've also read posts where people with Bands had complications and suffered for weeks and months before their issues were addressed. Thanks for sharing and helping me realize I need to hit the pause button! Happy Independence Day!

It's going great. Meeting or exceeding all my goals. I'm down 50lbs since the preop diet, maybe more. We've been on vacation and my scale is all over the place when I use it on the RV floor. I can move it 3 times and it reads 3 different weights, so I need to find a good solid surface to get a more accurate reading. What I am struggling most with is getting exercise in. We walk most days, but I'm still really weak from years of neglect and need to add strength training. Here are my preop and 2 month post op pictures. Hope everyone is doing well!

Questions about pregnancy after bypass
Summermoose posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I was wondering if any of you would be able to share some information with me regarding getting pregnant/pregnancy after a bypass (mgb or regular). I am so mentally ready to have a baby but all the unknowns are stressing me out! 1. Did you have to get cleared by your surgeon to start trying and if so, what did they check? 2. Did you work with a dietician to get the right nutrients/calories for yourself & your baby or did you figure it out yourself? 3. How much weight did you gain and did you lose it after? 4. Did you get followed up as a high risk pregnancy because of your bypass? 5. Did you have a caesarean because of your bypass? 6. Did you have complications related to your bypass? 7. Were there any effects on your baby related to your bypass? Thanks already for answering any questions, I appreciate it so much 😊 -
Post Surgery Depression
CarolineLittle replied to hannah grace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Big hugs! I want to say good for you for taking this step at 19! I'm 50 and should have done this in my 30's. A lot of time and opportunities wasted. The week's after surgery are super hard. I promise it gets better, especially as you reintroduce food, even if it is pureed! Please don't stress too much about protein right now. The most important thing it's to stay hydrated. Hitting protein goals is pretty tricky the first 6 weeks imo. It's only in in thr past 2 weeks I'm getting there as my diet becomes more regular and I'm in a routine. I preplan my meals for the week and ensure I have healthy snacks that help me meet my protein goals. I look on Pinterest all the time for inspiration. Use this time to think ahead and get some ideas for the future. You'll get better at being in situations with food. It doesn't bother me. Tonight they got takeaway and I skipped it as I'd preplanned a meal I'm looking forward to. In no time you’ll be able to eat with your family, just smaller portions. It just becomes normal. Hang in there! -

Medical cannabis after surgery.
BabySpoons replied to Vicsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I opted for Gastric Bypass surgery, knowing it's not recommended to "consume tobacco" ever again. But cannabis is not tobacco, And vaping is not smoking. 3 months post-op I vape 0mg nicotine and I also have a CBD/THC vape pen for when I experience any pain or nausea. It's medicinal. No one can convince me otherwise. This podcast addresses OP questions.
