  1. My sleeve surgery was 3/13/23 and I've been struggling with constipation ever since. I have been taking colace twice a day (approved by my doctor) and benefiber powder (recommended here) At a prior appointment, they said the benefiber would be ok. My PA approved the colace but mentioned yesterday that the Benefiber could expand and stretch my sleeve. So she told me to take Metamucil Fiber Thins instead. While I love the addition of a cracker to my day I am a little worried it may not work. Plus I'm going away for a week and hesitate to try something new beforehand but I'm scared about stretching my sleeve with the benefiber! Thoughts??
  2. Hi there my June friends - I hop you re all well. I had my surgery on 1st June (bypass). my starting weight was 215lbs and I am down to 184lbs. I have been able to eat purees foods straight out of hospital for 3.5 weeks and am now on soft food (food that I can get a fork through). I eat about 4-5 small meals per day and try to drink a litre and a half of water. I have not had any problems so far and am enjoying a wider variety of things to eat. I've been swimming almost each morning since just under 3 weeks out of surgery. I think I am doing ok - just so glad to have had this opportunity to help me to manage my weight. There is still so much to learn about this new tool but I am going to enjoy the journey 🙂. I hope you are all happy with the decision to have weight loss surgery xxx
  3. Had my follow up with surgeon yesterday after having done all testing and nutrition classes that he asked of me. He congratulated me for being so swift and for losing a bit of weight since last visit. He said I’ve been cleared with everyone but I have one more visit with the nutritionist before she can clear me in 2 weeks and then a final follow up with him!!! I’m so happy I couldn’t sleep last night. Thought I would have to wait 6 months that Keystone First requires but they have years of documented proof that my weight has been a problem and a huge factor in my health for over 15 years. Praying insurance approves me after next visit (fingers crossed)
  4. I am almost 11 months post opp and the last 2-3 month I have seen a dramatic halt in weight loss. It's to the point that I feel like I should have went with bypass instead of sleeve. At what point did you see the slow down? Did anyone plateau before they were even close to the goal? And did you do anything in particular to get the weight loss going again?

    Gastric Bypass Aug 16th

    There was definitely a moment or 2 where I second guessed my decision, but now that I'm on regular food and healed, absolutely no regrets. Those first few weeks are challenging. And be prepared for the mental aspect of all this. For me, that's been the hardest part; even at 10 weeks out. The cravings, food addiction, and stalls all have taken their turn. Therapy is so helpful for this. I was nervous before surgery more for the unknows and how my life was going to change, but I was not scared. I think that part is pretty individual based on many individual factors.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

    Yay a fellow Texan! I’m up in north Texas. I had my surgery in Plano, but that’s about an hour from where I actually live. I guess that amount of weight loss is normal? I started at a slightly higher weight not too far off from yours so we seem to be tracking about the same, but I bet you’ll pass me up soon. From what I’ve seen, the weight falls off of men a little faster. This week has been slower so far. I’m down about 5lbs. Food is still going okay. I’ve had yogurt, strained soups and a tiny bit of pureed beans. Nothing crazy and only very small amounts. I’m able to finish my protein shakes and I can drink around 65-70oz of fluids for the day. You’re so lucky you get to eat eggs. I’ve been craving them. My first post-op appointment is next Tuesday. Maybe he’ll let me then too.

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

    I was soooo hungry 2 wk PO! I couldn't understand & was very disheartening.. I had buyers remorse, but it faded in a week or 2. I am 5 weeks PO now, down 32 lbs & have to force myself to eat & drink. My appetite is usually sleeping but wakes up around dinner I will get a hankering for a type of food, lately has been steamed veggies & chicken. Yuuum! It will get easier, day by day, stay positive, stay thankful for this tool & make small goals that lead to the larger ones! Best of wishes

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

    I had my first post-op appointment yesterday. My surgeon told me to just keep following the stages on the handout and scheduled my next appointment for three weeks from now. He told me to go ahead and start eating eggs and other foods that I could smash with a fork (that was kinda broad, but I know what he meant, lol) when y'all make your eggs, do you add anything extra to them to make them softer? Usually when I make a scrambled egg, I'll use butter and heavy cream to get them fluffy, but I know that neither are a go right now. Y'all don't know how appreciative I am to have this group to be able to interact with people that are going through the same things I am. Thanks for your help!

    My Gastric Sleeve Journey

    Quick update… I had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon yesterday. Everything has been going extremely well. No nausea, no problems with the liquids, nor with the soft foods like hummus, cream of wheat, or grits. I had the staples removed from my surgical incisions, thankfully! My surgeon was kinda vague though. Told me that as long as I had no problems to keep progressing according to the handout and that he’d see me in three weeks. He told me to proceed to eggs and foods that I could mash with a fork, so I bought some instant potatoes and I’m looking forward to that. I bought the original Sabra Hummus and after about a month on liquids only, it’s been amazing! I weighed in at 339lbs, so to date I’m down 46lbs since starting my journey and down about 22lbs since surgery. I’m not going to complain about 11lbs a week since surgery, though I know it’s not going to last.
  10. It's 6 months since my mini gastric bypass. I have lost total of 55 Kg or 121.25 lbs. My weight loss trend is still hovering around 6 Kg (13.2 lbs) loss/month. But from last 3 months, I have seen increase in my hunger. In terms of percentage, the increase would be 20 % as compared to the 3 months back. Is this normal? I am also spending a lot of time for workout - around 6 hours of cardio and 12 hours for strength training + HIIT + weights every week. Not sure if that along with muscle i am developing is causing this hunger? or maybe its normal? Also, lost my job to layoffs recently but finances are not an issue. So just trying to maintain calm and avoid any emotional eating. My current weight is 92.5 Kg or 203.5 lbs. Should I get my metabolism evaluated to see my calorie requirement or wait upto 1 year for weight to stabilize? I had my surgery outside country of residence due to surgery wait times. I do teleconference with bariatric surgeon every 3 months, but no in person visit option available. Please suggest. Thank you

    Surgery Failure

    Could be water weight, could be hormones, could be the day of the week, could just be...your turn to have a minor setback. You'll have some fluctuation here and there and as you lose more and the weight loss slows, you may notice it more. This is not a "failure" and it's destructive to frame it that way to yourself. It's part of the process. It's going to be ok. Don't beat yourself up. Don't sabotage yourself. Just keep going.

    Hello!!

    Hi, I am really at loss of words to express my concern. I had my surgery on may 24 and it's almost a month and half. I had 4 weeks of liquid phase and lost about 20 pounds. After which I was OKed to move to purée stage. I hit a stall ever since and that's not the worst, I regained about 8 pounds without any cheating or deviation from my plan. I am scared on what to do and currently super depressed about it. I know stalls are common and tried to get my mind of it, but regain is what upsets me most. Has anyone experienced it ? I don't know on how to proceed and food makes me scared. Appreciate any tips to get through this.

I’ve got kids (teenagers and adults now, but still)…my relationship with them became EXPONENTIALLY better after I lost the weight: I am happier, less cranky, can participate in all their interests, less tired, more patient. Plus I’ll likely live longer now to spend more time with them. but I do get the fear of surgery. When I woke up in the recovery room after surgery, the first thought in my head was: “YEEEESSSS! I’m alive!!!!” It took me 3 tries to finally get sleeved…I backed out of two scheduled surgery dates cuz I was apprehensive. Third time was the charm. Looking back, I wish I just went through with it the first time. you are ready when you’re ready. Only you will know when. Good Luck! ❤️

    Vacation

    Maintaining is half the battle when you're traveling; unless this is a trip that is going to last for months, just get back on track when you get home. There's nothing you can do in a week that can't be undone.

    Sleeve to RNY

    Today weigh in is 172. The post op diet helps to lose so this hasn’t been so bad. I did re-gain (my own choice) to the 160 area and took it a little over when I knew I was getting the revision. So I am 8+ lbs less than my original weight pre surgery and 17 lbs down in 3 weeks from when I left the hospital. I don’t thinks that’s too bad. My worries are at ease because I don’t see the 140 happening anytime soon. Lots of my loss has been fluid and the rest I took on due to being afraid to look sickly again.
  16. Just came back from a short trip to Langkawi Island here in Malaysia with my wife and kids. This is my wife and I second visit after going there in 2013 for our honeymoon (time flies!). We all had a great time there specially my kids. The weather was nice and the island was not very crowded. I got to try a lot of things that I've never dared or was able to do before WLS. The trip was full of NSVs so I wanted to share some of those with you guys. 1. I didn't need a seat belt extension this time and had plenty of room in my seat! I was able to use the food tray without it pushing against my belly. 2. I tried parasailing (parachute on a boat), banana boat and even jet skiing for the first time in my life 3. I joined my wife and kids in playing all the rides and games in the water theme park. I was always the guy standing out of the pool cheering while my wife and kids were having fun. Not this time. My son was so happy that daddy was with him on the big water slide. Some of the rides had a weight limit of 80 kg (they even have a scale to weigh people who are close to that weight - I was not asked to hop on the scale haha). Climbing the stairs to the ride starting point would have given me a heart attack before WLS let alone sliding down. 4. We took a speed boat for island hopping which was awesome. In one of the islands we had to climb the stairs up to a beautiful lake (Unlike my first visit I was fine and not out of breath while carrying my bag and my daughter). We rented pedal boats and circled around the lake for 30 mins which was awesome. 5. We took some photos at the resort that we stayed in during our honeymoon 10 years ago. Left photo was taken in August 2013 and right one three days ago. This was also my first time ever wearing shorts in public and being at ease with it. Guess who bought 4 more shorts haha. The cherry on the cake was weighing myself after returning home to find that I've lost half of my weight on surgery day. A total of 74.5 kg lost which is my wife and daughter's weight combined!

  18. Congrats on surgery. I just had surgery on Tuesday, June 20th. I did go back to work on the following Monday the 26th. I feel that I needed more time. The first week and a half post op I was struggling with mental fogginess from low carb and diarrhea. However, my coworker had surgery the same day and was perfectly fine. She did not have any of the issues that I had. We are all differently. If you feel well enough to return, go for it. If you need more time, take it.

    Let's Collect Some Data!

    This is a great idea but would love to see one more category added. The different bariatric procedures can greatly effect the rate of loss due to levels of restriction, absorption, etc. 1. Basics: GENDER, AGE (at time of surgery) , HEIGHT - F, 62, 5'5" 2. Total Weight lost in the 6 months BEFORE surgery (if any) - 6.5 LBS 3. Weight on DAY OF SURGERY. - 202.5 LBS 4. Weight at 1 MONTH POST surgery - 187.4 LBS 5. Weight at 3 MONTHs POST surgery - 170.8 LBS 6. Weight at 6 MONTHs POST surgery - TBD 7. Weight at 12 MONTHs POST surgery - TBD I had my VSG surgery on 3/3/23 have just hit my 4 month post-op. I currently weigh 162.4 for a total loss of 40.1 LBS in 4 months.
  20. Things have been going pretty smoothly since bypass surgery June 6. The stages from the surgeon and nutritionalist seem fairly accelerated (compared to others I've looked up in the Internet). I would have a bowl of cream of wheat (3/4 cup of water) or a single egg omelet (adding some cooked mushrooms or shredded smoked salmon). All fine. The canned vegetables are pretty insipid but I don't feel like I'm ready for "raw" veggies and overcooked veggies (steamed) are kinda like the canned stuff- To celebrate my passage into regular food, I took a smoked turkey leg, reheated it, then stripped all skin and tendons off, leaving me with 1/2-3/4 cup of shredded meat. It was too much! I discovered what you folks call the "foamies"-- horrible. If I could have just puked and emptied my stomach, I would have been happy, but oh, no, all that came up was that dreaded froth. I was in major discomfort for hours and wound up falling asleep sitting up. Next day, I decided to go back to basics- just protein drink, Gatorade Zero, a little hummus and 1/2 my usual portion of cream of wheat. I'm now setting up a call with the nutritionist- interestingly, his plan disclaims any recommended portion size. And when I've looked at the internet, every plan is different, with different ranges of portions. I feel much better having gotten through that experience of foamies- whether it was the density of the meat, the quantity, or the smoked flavor, I have no idea but I'm gonna stay away from smoked meats, at least for now. Because I had a hiatal hernia repair, any sort of heavy lifting, sit-ups, etc. are taboo. I am walking (ironically, the mega grocery stores provide me with a venue for that since here in Texas, it's been over 100 degrees F until a couple days ago. Typical Texas summer). So, two questions: 1.portion size- we'll see what the nutritionist says; and 2.did most of you hit overload at some point on your journey? I have been losing weight. I definitely look and feel better, easier to walk without getting winded, etc. My best to all, Deep6
  21. Everyone is different and very much depends on the physical demands of your job. I wfh and took no time off work. I was back to work travel at 3 weeks post op

  23. I’m 28 years old, and I’m 3 months and 2 weeks post op, and have had quite the journey so far….. I’ve had issues since surgery with not being able to eat and drink etc, finally got in for a gastroscopy the other week where they confirmed I have not one but 2 ulcers…… I’ve lost 80 lbs since surgery 3 months ago which to me seems super fast. Started at 297lbs, down to 213lbs. Anyways, so I’m on medication to heal from that, and have just noticed myself feeling worse and worse, zero energy since surgery, and feels like it’s depleting worse and worse every day…. Instead of getting better the further I am along…. Started to notice my back and hips hurting the last couple of weeks, thought maybe it’s because I’m not up walking enough….. sit all day at work in an office kinda thing, then go home and rest… idk why I took a test last night and sure enough PREGNANT 1-2 weeks pops up on the test…. what the heck am I doing!? Has anyone else gotten pregnant at 3 months post op and carried to term? I’m scared that because I’m not eating and drinking that I’m a danger to this baby and myself now, is it even possible to go through with the pregnancy?

    i’m home as well doing great minimal pain. starting to feel the discomfort of the largest incision, which they told me would happen, but it’s definitely tolerable. tried a sip of a shake yesterday it didn’t feel great so i’m going to try again today day 3.
  25. Hey guys, Apologies for not updating this thread. I've been personally struggling with this weight loss despite everything. I've lost a bit more weight, but even with the help of the dietician, the weight loss is incredibly slow and it's still making me feel like a failure. On average it seems like I lose about 3 pounds a month despite the high protein intake, small meals, liquids and exercise. Today I woke up feeling particularly upset, as I started a 4 mile walking challenge to see if I could walk four miles every day for a week (in the morning). Today is Wednesday (day 3) and before i started walking, I decided to weigh myself. I've put on 2 and a half pounds since this SATURDAY just gone! I weighed myself yesterday morning too and I've put on a pound since then. I won't lie. I just burst into tears. I feel like i've been doing everything right. I'm burning around 3500 calories a day, according to my Fitbit watch. I'm eating/drinking between 50-80g of protein. I'm drinking my 2 liters of liquids and I'm still eating from a side plate, always prioritizing the protein first. I'm doing everything, but I feel like my body is rebelling against me. Everything in my being is telling me to start fasting and to start doing liquid diets/slimfast shakes again, but because I have a history of eating disorders, I don't want to lean back into old habits in order to lose weight. I bought slimfast meals two weeks and did the liquid diet/pouch reset for two days and lost a pound and a half - but I don't want to rely on only having liquids in order to lose weight. I've been loitering between 243-240lbs for over a MONTH now with no budge. I'm so disappointed in myself and it feels like all the exercise i'm doing is in vain. Has anyone gone through similar? Edited to add: My goal weight is 215lbs. Being bigger/curvy runs in my family, and I actually like being a little bigger as I find curves attractive so I purposely did not want to be unrealistic when setting my final goal. I've read elsewhere on the forum that weight loss can be harder when you're getting nearer to your goal or when you're in the last 20-30lbs of weight loss. Is this true?
