    frustrated :/

That's what you should do concentrate on getting better the surgery will handle the weight loss! I will say the fluid intake gets so much better I'm 19 days out now and I still have bad days but I'm able to get a lot more water down. I'm down 27 lbs
  3. hi everyone. i am not new to this sight ive been reading it in silence since before my surgery that was February 15th of 2013. since I surgery I've lost a total of 24 pounds and I've recently had my 3rd fill. I'm not at my green zone yet but I definitely am getting closer to it. this has been an exciting journey so far in and excited to reach my goal weight. however I do have one question for the ladies sorry gentlemen but I do need to ask this question, has this affected your menstral cycle? my surgery that was in February I've had my menstrual cycle once and I haven't had it since. my doctor told me that my body is probably going through some stress with the surgery. but I didn't know if this was common and most women. thank you hope someone can help.

    Please Help

Hello, After about 1 year of having my band filled I lost 90 pounds and found myself in the same situation you described. I did what you are planning and had my band unfilled. Then I got it filled, unfilled, filled, filled and filled. From the time is was unfilled, to the time it was back at the right fill level was about 5 months. I gained over 30 pounds. Since it has been at the right fill level (2 months), I have lost about 12 pounds. So, if I continue to loose at the end of the year I will weight exactlly the same as I weighed last year. I would have preferred to weigh less. Be a little concerned about gaining weight when the band is not filled. I know when it feels like a piano landed on your chest, the last thing you care about is loosing weight, you just want somebody to move the piano. The unfill is like having the piano removed, it is a huge relief. I only wish I had been quicker to get the band refilled to the right level sooner. THE REASON THIS HAPPENS MAY NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE FILL LEVEL OF YOUR BAND. If your fill level intiaqlly worked and the band seemed to get tighter, the band fill level was probably alright. What happens is that when you vomit this causes trama and swelling, so things tighten up. Then because they are tighter, you vomit again and things swell even more and then before long, you are swollen shut and can't even swallow a single drop of water. Then you have to get unfilled. THE WAY TO FIX THIS AND NEVER HAVE THIS ISSUE AGAIN is to be very strict with your diet and not push it even one time. Once you vomit it is a very good idea to go to clear liquids right away for a week. You may not feel tighter after the fist time, but swelling has occured annd by the time it feels tighter, it is to late and it will be hard to recover without an unfill. Clear liquids will save you from ever having to feel like this again. Never, ever vomit and then the first time you do go immediatly to 7 days of clear liquids. Once it gets very tight, an unfill is required. For my this cost me 30 pounds, 9 months and about $1,500. I would rather not pay that tuition bill again.

Hi mama All doctors are different. I was't required to have a pre-surgery diet either. But follow what your dr. says allows, today, tomorrow and like i said always. glad you are getting a "hold" of yourself and realize you should be #1 too. I was told the reason many dr.s want you to lose some weight prior to WLS is because of your fatty liver that we have. i think i said that right. OMG march 28 is right around the corner best wishes kathy

    Adult Add

Do you think that having ADD affects you weight loss? Just something I was wondering. Do any of you have ADD and struggle with weight loss even with your band? Thanks.
  8. Hi, my name is Holly, and I am scheduled for surgery February 13, 2006 with Dr. Steward in Topeka. I am very excited and scared at the same time. I have been reading your posts for about a week and have gotten lots of great info., but I need more. If you can answer any of my questions, I would REALLY appreciate it;-) My surgery is on Monday. I have parent teacher conferences on Thursday. Basically, I will be sitting and talking from 9am to 7 pm. Will this work? Do you think I can do this? I will then be off from Friday - Sunday. Next, I have to go to inservice two weeks after surgery out of town. My best friend is going and knows about the procedure, the others going do not. By then I will be on mushies. Any suggestions on a "sack" lunch as lunch is provided at the conference. Also, is this too soon to go and will the others know? Are you starving the first six weeks? I guess I mainly want to know how did you feel and when did you feel "normal" again? I am self pay, and need to lose about 110 pounds. The weight loss seems so slow. Do you think I can reach my goal? Do you have to have fills for the rest of your life or does your band eventually receive the ultimate fill? My husband an parents are very supportive. I have 5 and 2 year old girls. Do I tell the 5 year old? I know that this is a super long post, but any responses will be very much appreciated. This site is addictive!!! Thanks, Holly
  9. I'm feeling great today :wink2: I'm 8 days post op and I woke up this morning suddenly feeling a little jump in my step. I must be pretty well healed up now. Today is my post op appt with my doctor in Dubai. I'm looking forward to asking him some questions including why I have such achiness around the front and back of my ribcage area. I have learned that I have to eat something right when I wake up so I don't feel so sluggish and icky in the morning. I was never like that before but it's necessary now. I just have some yogurt first thing. I found yoplait has a "baby" yogurt so I found that is nice a light and makes me feel better in the morning. Later I will go to "breakfast" with friends. I'll just have some soup. Thank goodness I have always been a soup freak! It makes this pureed diet thing not such a hard thing to handle  I have a friend that has done the same surgery (6 years ago) and she has been wonderful. Thank God for her and her advice! Take care everyone and have a nice day :cool2:

    Not losing anything!

I “gained” seven pounds of fluid on the day of surgery, as they pumped me full of IV fluids so that I was less likely to be dehydrated the few days following. It took about a week to work through my system and then for my body to start healing from the shock of surgery. Depending on how far you are from surgery, it could be water retention or your body being in shock from surgery. If that’s the case, maybe give yourself some time and grace to begin recovering... If it has been much longer, more info would help us to help you.

    Well, that was interesting!

Blossom..WOW! you are one of the few who was alllowed chili's, fixin's and desserts just being 2 weeks post op.....Lucky you I was still on clear liquids at 2 weeks post op with a week of full liquids after that, then 2 weeks of mushy's and then I was on solids. I was told no food for 3 weeks so my band can set in place and I can heal because any food in my tummy would have to digest and the digestion process is such a grumblin, rumblin thing that I did not want to risk slippage since my band was not set into place and I was not healed al ltheway by having to digest any food prior to being 3 weeks post op..so interesting how every Dr. has different post op instructions, it varies so much between Dr.'s...Anyways. I tell everyone and anyone who asks how I have lost my weight..as a matter of fact one of my customers this morning asked me and I told her, she has all ready called Dr. Orti'z office...she said she has been watching me get smaller and smaller, she is overweight by about 80lbs..so for me, the more I can help and the more I can educate about the band..The better! That's just me though!

    Learning to Enjoy Life

Now that I have lost all my excess weight, I have developed a new lifestyle....I still enjoy food now as much as ever...along with drink, parties, etc etc.... ...I can do all things, just nothing in excess...the WLS, specifically lap band for me, prohibits me and takes away the urge to be a glutton.... I don't need to eat to the point of being stuffed anymore, and frankly I have no desire to...take it or leave it. I don't worry about calories anymore, Diet is a four letter word I will never have to do again....the diabetes, cholesterol, high BP, etc, etc are all gone! I have no fear of ever being fat again.... I am enjoying life, and all it has to offer, more now than I have in a long time. (I'm 63 years old) All the result of WLS...something I could not accomplish on my own. Bottom line....over a 24hr period, I eat less, WAY less, ( a 1/10?) than I used to....what I do eat I try to make the most of nutritionally...and I stay as active as possible, a real health and fitness addict.......a new Lifestyle that feels great! Over the past few years, I have found this to be true for me, having been on cruises, vacations to foreign countries, business travel, weddings, parties, picnics, holiday family get togethers....I have no fear and enjoy myself at them all! It's a new way of living.....opposite from the way I was that made me Obese and unhealthy to death's doorstep There is life after weight loss!!! And you know what? I am not ashamed that it was EASY! Why should I not want to admit it?? (learning and breaking old habits was the hard part) I don't care what other people may think....When it comes to this, it's all about me.
  14. Bloody hell those links are eerily similar. I'm sensing a patter here. OP.....why do you want to get sleeved in the first place? Is it to lose weight, get healthy, live longer? All of those? What has prevented you from obtaining those goals? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess......food. It's the same for all of us. We all overeat. That's how we got here. You have to decide which you wanna give up....the food or the excess weight. Yes you will be able to eat again. If you feel deprived, it's not going to be a physical issue. Deprivation is a mental issue. If you feel deprived, if you miss eating large quantities of food, you need to realize that kind of eating is a coping mechanism for some other problem and needs to be dealt with in a healthy manner. And now that the lecture is over....I'm 18 months post op and I eat 2000 calories a day. I also exercise an hour a day and I eat clean and healthy 95% of the time. I don't miss pizza, hamburgers or gorging on endless buffets. Frankly I feel free of the bonds of overeating. It's liberating.
  15. I am a single again women, two adult children and two wonderful granddaughters. My family is my world and enjoy them beyond measure. My adult life has been a rollercoaster on the weight control spectrum. Over the years I have tried a large variety of methods to regain control. Some of them were successful, short term most frequently. Hitting 321 lbs, being in the 50's and learning my heart is that of a 70 year old made me realize, I had to do something to make permanent changes for a healthier and longer life. I began the one month pre-op process June 15 and lost 25 lbs prior to my sleeve procedure. My surgery was July 13, after week one of clear liquids my loss total was 35 lbs. Started pureed foods week 2 after surgery. Was excited for that, the excitement was not long lived, but manageable. Very little movement on the scale at this time but notice my clothes getting looser. Still a few more weeks before the soft food transition. My strength is in knowing I am making these changes in my life to be here with my family longer. Everyone in my life has been supportive and encouraging. With them and God in my life, I can embrace and concur this journey. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. deedee first off - woo hoo on your weight loss i'm sure you see a gigantic change with your clothes size (34 to 22!!!!) wow trying to speak "gently", i can only imagine how hard it must be to have to lose alot of weight you've done amazing - but you still have to lose more since you have unfortunately stalled (which you know we all do) it must be very mentally upsetting since you do have more to lose do to the fact you have stalled - you are probably feeling bad/upset and are eating that little extra junk that you know you shouldn't some, many have been there - upset, not losing enough - so we eat??? knock it off!!!!! i know you can turn things around you've proven how terrific you are, knowing how to follow the rules et al it can get discouraging losing lots of weight, knowing you have more to lose - but you will be successful!!! i can see the determination you have in your pretty face yes you have a lot on that plate of yours it must be overwhelming!!!! having a tooth pulled, closing on your house, moving, and going back to work after 4 years OMG - i don't know how many people could do that without feeling overwhelmed but you will pass this hurdle things will slowly get better - you will have closed on your beautiful new house you will successfully have moved, you will enjoy working again and that darn tooth will be gone look at all those accomplishments you will have done!!! glad you are "not hungry" - that must help but your hands get "lonely" and they want you to exercise telling you to lift hand, insert food STOP, STOP, STOP you can/will win this battle glad you haven't gained weight, sounds like you have gained insight i don't know what/how a vegetarian eats- can't help you on that situation if you want to go back to basics to give yourself a jump start on losing some weight - go for it!!! push, push, push everything you can/will do great i know you will get back into the proper old habits you have learned drink, drink, drink, and then drink some more glad that you come to the board for support - we're all out here for ya i see you are soooooo close to twoderland!!!! come on, come on - you are almost there - you can make it, i know you can!!!! good luck bud kathy

To fill or not to fill....

I have found that airline travel greatly affects my band, making it much tighter for several days after a flight. Perhaps all of the flying you're doing is having the same affect as having a fill. The altitude/pressurized cabin swells the band. You may find that after being grounded for longer lengths of time that you'll feel a difference in your band and may opt for a fill - but it sure looks as if it's working for you as is, for now. Congratulations on your weight loss!! You're doing fantastic!

    Help!

Hi there! I am pretty new to this since I was recently banded, but I have "the rules" fresh in my head, so maybe I can help you. As far as your weight loss stall, have you had a fill at all? If so, how many CC's and how much food are you able to eat? What my doctor wants from me once I start to have fills is to be able to eat 4 ounces of food and be comfortable for 3-4 hours, are you able to do this? Also, do you work out? If you do, maybe it is time to change up your exercises. They say that you should change it up every 8 weeks, so you keep burning as many calories as possible. Hopefully this helps you in some way, let me know how it goes.
  21. So, I'm curious what you all lost on the preop liquid diet (I'm doing 10 days starting next week) and in the first 2 weeks post op. Partially pure curiosity and partially because I'm supposed to get fitted for new uniforms at work tomorrow and I'm wondering if I should just tell them to make a size smaller than I am now. I wont be into the new ones until after I come back from surgery. Surgery should be 9th (tentative), returning to work the 26th.
  22. I'm only 3 weeks out but going into this I thought for sure I would lose a nice chunk of weight in the first month. I'm down 6.5lbs, all of which I lost week one and nothing since. Our bodies have just gone through major surgery and they are adjusting to a new stomach. I know it's hard but I am just trying to focus on healing and following doctors orders vs the scale. Everyone's body is going to respond differently.
  23. are There option after. Surgery to help you with weight gain?
  24. I have been banded since 8/15/13 and have lost 53 lbs. so far. But for the past 2 weeks, I haven't lost any weight at all. I am having a hard time getting in allot of protein and not as many ounces of water as I should. Any suggestions how to increase both??? What does everyone else do? How many ounces of water and grams of protein does your DR/NUT recommended daily?
