I totally relate. Its been over 10 months for me and Im at 45 lbs. If I may offer a suggestion...start lifting heavy weights in your workouts. It will NOT make you bigger. The muscle building increases metabolism and burns more calories. I think you will see better results. Do that 3x/week. That being said....I have been lifting heavy for many years now and I still will only lose half of a pound a week.... maybe. Its very frustrating. I had no idea how hard , how much exercise and how much dieting was involved with this. Basically, I think the band contributes 15% but the rest is all up to us. I can eat whatever I want and if I sit there long enough....I can continue to eat. Im done with all the fills and un-fills. Im staying where Im at. I must now do what it takes on my own. Soooooo HARD!

Question re: Great Lakes Weight Loss Center
Losing 2 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello: Does anyone have knowledge of the Great Lakes Weight Loss Center? I've found their website and contacted them - since it's closer and we have a bunch of relatives over there. It's located in Harper Professional Bldg. in Detroit & Rochester Hills Bldg in Rochester Hills, MI The price is $10700. I've scheduled for Dr. K in October... this place says I could be scheduled within 2-3 wks from now. Please let me know if you are able to provide any feedback. I'll keep checking to see if I can find it here. Thanks in advance, will post this in another forum as well. -
Same here !!! I had my sister over for the whole week !!!!! And she is super skinny and she can eat anything and not gain a pound. And of course she wanted to go out and eat at the buffets (I live in Las Vegas) and all week was about food... but today I'm back at it again, eating what I'm suppost to eat "healthy" and back at the gym.

Hello everyone. I haven't posted for a while. I hope you are all doing okay. I am at the stage post op where I can have all textures of foods. Problem is I don't really have a specific plan to follow, and it is difficult to stick to the diet when there aren't specific instructions. I've found that now that I can eat, I want to eat everything. Being hungry for the 3 weeks ppre-op, and then the past 4 weeks post op was difficult, and I think now that I am able to eat anything, I want EVERYTHING. I did not do well during the mushies stage, and in fact, I had a lot of high calorie puddings and yogurts. I was so hungry and after feeling deprived, my brain kept telling me that it was okay to eat. Anyway, I need to get recommitted and get started losing weight. It has been 10 days now since my 2nd surgery (unrelated but I have 6 inch incision in my abdomen and a 2.5 inch one in my back, and the recovery hasn't been easy). 2 surgeries within a month was a bit much for me and I haven't had the energy to fight through the dieting. So, I need to get completely back on track. What kinds of menus are you guys having. I need suggestions. Thanks, Cindy

Maggie, I am glad it is going well for you. I went to my 1st appt on 6/11/10 and want to have this done. My husband also wants to have the banding. He needs to come off his meds. I would love to be friends and to chat about you progress. I know I will need support. I have friends but this is not something you talk about to a 150 lb BFF. I wish you luck. Hope we talk soon. Good luck with your weight loss and your photo contest!! Luck is on your side

Totally clogged
JerseyGirl68 replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting in all your Water? The gain is most likely due to being backup up. You don't want it to go on too long, you might want to give your doctor a call. He may tell you to take something stronger than Colace. Good luck! -
The Journey Begins 8/13!/Day Surgery??/Time off?
khath0620 replied to gracierose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is such a personal journey including your decision to tell people. There are some people I have shared with, people that I trust. There are others that are noticing that I am losing weight but I just tell them I am increasing my exercise and time at the gym while watching my portion sizes....its true without telling them I went through with this procedure. I am not ashamed about it, I think it is the best thing I could have done for myself. I just know how they are and what they would say. I am making myself healthier and no matter what path I took, it is MY path. Gracierose...I really felt pretty good within a week but because of lifting precautions, had to take 2 weeks off. Going back to work was kind of like coming back from vacation...you know how when you start off really slow and then pick up. I just wouldn't plan to do much after work when you get back. Do you have enough vacation time or sick time to take 3 weeks off just to be sure you are ready to go back??? Katie -
to your forum and it looks like a great place! I have been thinking about weight loss surgery but do not want to have the type of surgury that is permanent. I am trying to learn more about lap banding and find doctors in my area. If anyone can help, I live in the Cleveland Ohio area. Thanks, Jacky

Hey roxanne, it sounds like your on your way nicely. I feel the same way, I gained it slow and I think loosing it a little slower will be a little more healthy for me. But I am anxious to loose, and will have to keep reminding myself...(slow is good)... ~Bill

Hello everyone, Just wanted to greet you all and tell you a little about myself. I am a 50 year woman, married to a wonderful man, have 3 grown kids, 5 lovely grandchildren. I was banded on 2/2/06 and at this point I am down 30 lbs. I've had 3 fills and 1 unfill. I'm scheduled to go back on Tuesday, but I may have to reschedule as I have a new job and Tuesday is when we do the Hematology clinic...it may be hard for me to get away. Anyway, my weight loss has been slow, but the inches are coming off quickly. I've gone from an 18/20 or even 22 to a 14/16. Everyone says there is a big difference in my appearance. And I'm happy with that. At this point, I just need to a plateau breaker, I've been at this weight for about 3 weeks. Any suggestions? 225 postop 218 day of surgery 188 now 150 goal. Dee

Gastric Sleeve Coming Up 8/30/2016
Aprilannabell posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am beyond nervous and excited for the upcoming day. I have been counting down and been beyond prepared for this. I did 6 months of medically supervised classes. I finished my binder class which gives me all the diet plans and stuff for after surgery. But a part of me is so scared. I'm scared this won't work. That my last resort for making myself health and now over weight will fail. Even if I follow everything to the letter. My best friend is having a gastric sleeve done right before me. But the horrible part of it is I'm worried she will get better results and I will resent her for it. Which I know I shouldn't because she's my best friend. I feel like I'm the only one who feels this way. Before this point I lost weight I got down to 175 the lowest I have ever been. Then out of no where why I was eating right exercise 2 times a day it all came back and more. I'm now at 235. I count the days because I don't want to hurt all the time anymore. I want to be happy with my body and to be healthy. I'm getting married May of 2018 and I want to walk down The aisle in a fitted dress. Feeling great and happy. Being the perfect bride. I know I have to take it day by day but I'm a planner. I like knowing what will happen. And this, this is a big unknow for me. Has anyone else felt this way before. Any advice for me on how to get the negative thoughts out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Unless you are self-pay, your insurance co. will call the shots. The doctor's office should give you some good help in dealing with them (aren't they always the bad guys?) and getting you ready for your new life. Usually there is a 6 month supervised diet, a BMI level to meet, and co- morbidities to have before you are approved. It sounds like a pain in the neck, but it all is worth it once you have your band and can start losing weight 4ever! Good luck!

Grazing...head hunger...HELP!
Bandista replied to PrettyThick1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about sitting down and writing a letter -- could be a letter to yourself for congratulations on how far you've come or maybe one to the remaining weight you want to lose. Why it's important to you, what is motivating you to do it, how much you want it.......... -

Week 1 Down 22 Lbs & Not Excited
It's all new replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Be happy with your loss. Consider that other people struggle with losing from the very beginning. Prepare yourself for struggles - like stalling for weeks (or longer!) at a time even though you are eating only 600 calories and exercising for two hours a day. Give yourself a reality check. Your emotional upheaval right now may have nothing to do with dissatisfaction with your weight loss but instead be part of the crazy hormones from losing weight quickly. -
How to tell my family and friends
kshallow replied to foralifeonlyimaginable's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I told two people, mom and husband. It was my way to protect myself. I was putting enough pressure on myself to succeed, I definately didn't want the pressure of anyone scrutinizing either my success or failure. Thankfully it's been a success and if people ask me about how I lost all the weight, I will gladly tell them I had lapband surgery. -
I've been on the site reading and asking a few questions, but I guess it's time to tell my story. Like others I did a lot of research and settled on the best option for bariatric surgery for me: plication with lap band, or as my surgeon, Dr. Cottom in Salt Lake City terms it: Bandication. My surgery was on August 8. I was lucky at how smoothly my recovery has been: I went home the same day, was able to manage pain okay, was able to drink. It took a few days before swallowing pills was comfortable. I have had a terrible metallic tast in my mouth that is only now starting to fade. I got really hungry about a week post-op because sugar-free Jello, popsicles, everything with artificial sweetening tastes terrible with this metallic taste in my mouth. I"m so glad to be on cream Soups now/ I learned the hard way yesterday not to eat too much. I was trying to figure out what full liquids mask the taste of unflavored Protein powder and ended up eating more than I realized. I felt a lot of pain for several hours and then ended up vomiting when I tried to take my bedtime medications. I appreciate all the advice and experience others share about eating & exercise. I have a question for those of you who are a ways down the road. Background info: I had read a lot about the downside of artificial sweeteners and had cut them out of my diet the past few years. So it was a change to eat and drink sugar-free everything pre-and post surgery. Jillian Michaels and many others in the health industry say that artificial sweeteners mess with metabolism and hormones. So given that my surgeon said that metabolism tends to slow down over time with bandication as with lap-band, I am wondering what your experience has been with using artificial sweeteners versus just using sugar sparingly. Which helps you lose weight the best? I know that Stevia is natural, but it has a bitter taste for me in most things. Any research, insights, or experience would be appreciated.

Terry... be aware that fat cells store a lot of different hormones. It is entirely possible that as you lose weight your levels could change. I think it is a good plan to have them checked periodically.

Lilbelly replied to Lilbelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Colleen, I read your blog, I hope you get a surgery date for May. You sound as impatient as me lol! Once I set my mind to something I want it now! As far as I know after my psych appt. I get to see the surgeon and he makes the surgery date for me right then and there. I am so hoping for a May date. I see the nutritionist this Thurs. then the psych. the following Tues. Is this wishful thinking that I will get this done in May? How do I get one of those weight loss ticker thingys? -
