    I am now banded

I am now banded too as of September 24th. Feeling wonderful and for several days after surgery, I had absolutely no appetite. I was having to struggle just to get enough protein in me. Now that I have healed pretty well and alot of swelling is down, I feel like I am at a standstill. Lost maye 2 pounds in 10 days. Don't go in to see doctor until November 5th where I will get my first fill. Trying to remain positive and optimistic.

    "She's blushing!"

OK... Dr sent me a new vid to watch talking about open bypass and he has a hiatal hernia, 2 incisional, and 1 umbilical hernia plus a mesh to remove... he had said possibly laprascopic but I think he's decided on open lol... still have 2 more weeks before I find out... Hope Your Day is Great, *Amber* The Starving Mom starvingmom.wordpress.com “I'm not telling you it's going to be easy - I'm telling you it's going to be worth it.” - Art Williams ekkk I would hate the idea of open.....but I'm sure he has a reason for it needing to be done that way. good luck to you.
  3. I too am sort of new. I joined about the time I had a lap band. Did well for a time then began having troubles finding the "Sweet spot". Then breast cancer and had my band deflated for fear of vomiting. I have been pretty discouraged and talked with my PCP who felt I had done as well as I can expect with the band. I have lost and gained the same 20 pounds now for months. We discussed the bypass and I am waiting to see if I will be accepted into the program. I am looking to give and get support and learning tip from those who have gone before me.

    SIPS Surgery

I had never heard of this but if it is the same as DS surgery it’s been around a while and seems to be a good surgery. It’s a little more drastic than the bypass or sleeve but it is said to produce more weight loss. If your doctor thinks it’s warranted I would consider it. The main thing I have heard that is really different is that you may need to take some extra vitamins post surgery. We all have to take them in the beginning and most people have to take some for life but DS usually have to take a few more. As long as you are someone who will comply with taking vitamins probably 3 or 4 times a day for life it should be an option. I would check out Hop Scotch’s suggestion though and see what others who have had the surgery have to offer.

    Nashville,Tn Sleevers

NOTFAT: I live in Hermitage, so I am just a few exits down from you. I have to attend the support group in February and March to meet my insurance requirements. I knew VSG patients meet with the bypass patients, but I was hoping there would be more VSG attendees. Keep me informed on your surgery! I am very excited for you. SETTEBE: Oh, I'm sure we will pick your brain clean. Especially since we have the same practice doing our surgery. What about nausea? Did they do a good job keeping it at bay? That's my concern even more than the pain. I HATE throwing up. BTW, my husband and I lived in Carrollton, TX (outside of Dallas) for about 9 months back in 1985, before he got transferred back to Nashville. I liked it out there. Lisa

    U.S. kids having obesity surgery

Thanks for sharing!! I am just glad that kids have options now. I would have LOVED to have gotten my band when I was younger and obese and have my weight problem nipped in the butt early on. I think the lap band for severly obese kids is wonderful--not the bypass however. Too dangerous for children IMO. ~Liz~ 03/10/06241/156/160 5'8''
  8. It would be interesting to see what your surgeon recommends. I say this because I know some surgeons will recommend bypsss or won't do the sleeve because of GERD. However, my surgeon doesn't think you shouldn't do a sleeve on someone just because they have GERD. Those were the words I wanted to hear since I didn't want bypass. Boy do I regret it now 😧
  9. So, had a physical therapy preop eval today with goals set. Next week is a mandatory surgeon informational group meeting, followed by a nutrition 101 class, and an individial nutrition appointment. At this time, I still dont know which surgery to choose. I hope to have my questions answered at the surgeon group meeting. I feel like the PT tried to talk me into bypass vs sleeve. When I had a medical eval a few weeks ago with a nurse practitioner, I feel like she was pushing me towards bypass vs sleeve as well. I guess they see the outcomes more than I do. What do you guys think?

    down to the end

Are you getting the sleeve, bypass or a revision or would you like to talk about anything else? I'm understanding, my friend is getting a revision on the 24th and we've been focusing on other topics for now. These group can be the support you need...
  11. My thoughts exactly. I'd rather not go under the knife again which is why I'm 99% sure I'm going to pursue bypass.

    Getting Enough Calories w/o Grazing

I think that there is a difference between grazing and eating toward target macros throughout the day. In my case, I eat 8 small meals per day, approximately 2 hours apart (1.5 hours apart in the evenings) between 10am and about 11pm. This strategy has worked well for me since my surgery last November. I have gradually inched my calories up to about 1600, and I have always done this by adding additional meals, not by adding volume to existing meals. I never eat until I am full. I eat specified amounts at a time, and I know that I am going to be eating again in a couple of hours.
  13. Hey fellow bypassers. My name is Bridgette, and I have been on an emotional journey which started a year ago. I weigh right now at 325. Which is five pounds heavier than I did on the surgery date from which I figured was from gas So my surgeon couldnt do it, too much fat in my abdominal cavity, closed me up and left. my mom wants to sue for reasons that we are broke, we told him if he didnt think he could or wouldnt then dont and he did. We did a bunch of test, including ultrasounds Any who getting off track, you can find more about that in theforum titled aborted. Any who, I met with a Dr. Nowzaradan, and he gave me a week to loose 5-20 pounds.... does this mean he is gonna take a chance on me?
  14. Hello, My name is Meltini and I am going to be having surgery on 05/07/07. I am nevous:eek: , but this site and all you nice people out there, have been helpful to calm my fears.:nervous I have found so many caring and compassionate people on this site that are willing to offer their experience, thoughts and advice. Like some of the other posts, I am nevous about having something put inside me and staying there. I do feel lucky that I have a good doctor that is an abdominal/thorasic surgeon and specializes in LAP Band and Gastric Bypass. All the medical facilities are relatively close and I have support groups to choose from. I have seen a lot of people on here that do not have that luxury and have to go as far away as Mexico to get the surgery that they need and want. I feel blessed. I need this surgery. I have battling with weight all my life. Up down, up down... You know how it goes. I think it is a combination of genetics, eating and exercise habits(or lack there of), and environmental factors. We cannot control ALL of them to our liking. I do beleive that this LAP band will be a TOOL to assist me in learning new habits, making me aware of how I eat,(ie: too fast, too much, don't chew enough) and assisting me on my way to a healthier me- and hopefully someday a family!:clap2: So if anyone has any success stories to share with me about their LAP Band story, please fell free to email me or post a response. GENUINE thanks to all who have posted or will post. This site is an awesome support resource.

    Revealing Band Surgery to Employer

Of course it's up to you how much time you feel is necessary to recover, but generally speaking 4 days seems to be the recommended amount. Example: have the surgery on Wednesday, take off Thurs and Fri and have the weekend to recover and be back by Monday. For those have bypass surgery, it may take longer but the lapband surgery is less traumatic to the body than gall bladder surgery.

    Vitamin Suggestions

I had RNY gastric bypass and the number and quantity of vitamins that I take is several times that of sleeve patients. So I generally take inexpensive vitamins that I buy in bulk as Sam's Club. I take Citracal for my calcium requirements. I take Centrum for my multivitamins. I take Sam's club brand sublingual vitamin B12.
  17. I am trying to figure out which federal ee insurance provides coverage of lapband. I currently have BCBS, and they cover only gastric bypass. I plan on changing during the upcoming open season. Any ideas from other federal ees would be appreciated.
  18. I am awaiting approval from my insurance. But per my patient intake coordinator if approved surgery will be the last week of october or the first week of november....Good luck!!

    Putting Off Gastric Bypass

Hello my friends! I'm Trudy Carle and have been on my WLS journey for about 5 months now. Last month I was cleared by dietician & just waiting for surgeon appointment & insurance. It's with a heavy heart that I have decided to put off my Gastric Bypass. I have been falling lately--my knees buckling, I had 2 former minor surgeries on left knee-knew it it was feeling worse-just thought I would take care of it AFTER BYPASS! Sooooo close! The final straw was falling in shower putting knee through the tub! Went to drs and X-ray & MRI showed extensive damage to left knee....so my goal is to fix the left, then rehab, 6 weeks later do the right, rehab, etc. I'll work hard, but will probably have to redo things like nutrition but all is well! I'll still be here, keeping you informed lol! Thanks!
  21. I was on two types of medicine to control my type 2 diabetes for several years before my surgery. Although my A1C was still high and getting higher, my personal care physician recommended that I start taking insulin. But I refused. I was in the hospital for 2 days after my gastric bypass RNY surgery. When I left the hospital, I was off all my blood sugar meds and haven't taken any since. I periodically check my blood sugar and the numbers remain good. I am 18 months post-op from my surgery. Because you are currently taking 5 shots per day now, the surgery might not send you into complete remission but I believe your dosage will be dramatically reduced. I believe the reason why this diabetes remission occurs is primarily due to the post-op diet.
  22. Hi there! I am scheduled for Revision from lap band to gastric bypass on Dec. 12th. I am sooo nervous! I'm self paying so I'm going to Mexico, alone, for the surgery. Can anyone give me some information on how you are doing after your revision, like the recovery period and how much you have lost. I'm really nervous because I was a complete failure with the lap band and I don't want another failed surgery.
  23. Well this is my fist post I am very new to the site and have been researching my surgery and working towards it since November of 2016, I know that compared to other stores and video's that I have heard, my process is short amout of time. I have great insurance because I work for the state that I live in so luckily I did not have to go through a weight lose program or see a Nutritionist for a certain number of visits I have struggled with weight for most of my adult life and I have losted and gained weights over the years and I find as I get older it gets harder for me to jump on a diet and lose 20-40 pounds like i'm use to.... Plus a lot of the methods that i've used could have crazy side effects and with my mom recently being treated for breast Cancer I am no longer willing to take those risks I want to stay on track and live a better healthier life. I look forwards to hearing from you ...many blessings

    Banded today! 11-10-10

Thanks for all the responses. I'm feeling very sore today but expected it. The shoulder pain is not as bad as yesterday. The heating pad has helped a lot. Still trying to get rid of the sore throat. I feel the gas in my upper chest today... trying to keep walking around so it comes out. Not the best feeling. Had a hard time sleeping last night. Was unable to sleep laying down on the bed so I propped myself up on many pillows on the couch. Got in a few hours of sleep. Over all feeling okay. I expected most of what I'm feeling so just trying to get through it. Looking forward to healing and getting my weight loss started. Good luck to all the new November bandsters!
