    Actual time off work

I'm a Crisis Screener in an ER and in the community. I took the full 6 weeks and I am going back to work next week. I actually decided that I'm not returning to the same company as it's high stress and is not healthy given my recent surgery and ongoing self care needed especially in the beginning. I took a position doing the same work but for a different organization, in a different county, with lower demand for the services I provide. Just do what's best for you as this is a life changing surgery. Mine was actually a revision due to complications. I only took off for 2 weeks for the first one and regret that. Your job will survive without you for an extra couple of weeks...take as much as your doctor will give you. YOU are more important than your job! 3. Any advice on how calm my husband's anxiety? My DS (revision from rny 2012) is already scheduled for early Monday Jan 7. He didn't show any sign's of anxiety until literally last night. Tossed and turned leaving both of us restless. He didn't have any anxiety the first time around for me. And it is too late for any dr visit for prescription meds. I think he tried to hold out as much as possible thinking his feelings would pass. But as the day gets nearer it got to be much.I've tried to reassure him I am in great hands and I am doing everything I need to do to prepare preop. He understands I'm doing this (again) for my health, but since there is more risk involved, he can't help but feel overwhelmed. He's worried about the procedure, my recovery in the hospital and at home. My mother has taken time off from work to stay with us at home and help as well as be with me in my hospital stay. I am naturally nervous and excited, but at this point I'm more worried about him than my own nervousness!! I need some encouraging words for hubby. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

Proudest 2018 moment: worked really hard to lose weight over 2018. In Feb I had a bariatric appointment to discuss possible revision surgery and was 143 kilos / 315 lbs. Worked really hard even with dodgy lapband that either had no effect when too lose or terrible reflux whenever it was tightened and by October got down to 127.5 / 281 lbs for revision surgery. Every pound was hard won I tell ya. So proudest moment was when I got on plane to go to Belgium for my surgery and the seat belt fit without an extender. I was so delighted and happy! First time in decades I hadn't needed to ask for an extender. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. You will do great! I had my sleeve done in Dec 2011, and had lots of issues with regurgitation and GERD that finally became unmanageable. I just had my revision to RNY (along with a whole lot of hiatal hernia repair and other cleanup) on Dec 12, 2018. It seems so much easier this time around. I decided it's like childbirth - you're terrified through the first one, but when the second one comes along, it's like, I got this....
  6. Hi has anyone with Kaiser had a re-sleeve or revision?
  7. I had a lap band for 11 years had it taken out October 1 I’m now scheduled for a sleeve on February 5 I have been told that it is a much slower weight loss after a revision I would like to hear from people who have had this revision and let me know your outcome See ya lighter
  8. You have the same date as me but I am revising from band to bypass. This time around I haven’t got to do the liquid diet, I have just been told to stick with “ clean” eating.
  9. Sensational. Dr. Gandsas will do my revision from sleeve to bypass on the 21st Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

  12. I had my band done in 2009. I had it removed in January of last year. It had slipped a little and I had esophageal issues. I dealt with pain and reflux for about a year before I did something about it. When my band was removed, there was quite a bit of scarring around the band. It took a little longer to remove it. My port site was sore for a little while. My doctor had me wait three months to have the sleeve done. He wanted to make sure everything had healed properly. My revision to sleeve was done on 5/29 with no issues. I am a whimp, so it took a little longer for me to recover. I’ve had some emotional ups and downs. I weigh 133. Three pounds from my goal weight. I’m very happy with my sleeve!

    Can I do damage vomiting?

There's no HCL, it's literally all just food I have just eaten, no real vomit. I haven't had acid up since my bypass revision (had it for reflux revision, becuz of severe reflux - I had 2 straight years of vomiting stomach acid 2-4x a week - it was doing damage to my esophagus). I haven't had reflux ONCE in 5 months - yeah, me! Now, it's literally just the food I have just eaten, no acid at all. And there's no violent contractions at all, it just comes up easy peasy. Is this still problematic? Marci

Lap band January 2019 surgery date

I was banded in 2014 and actually loved my band. Even though I didn’t make goal, I counted my experience as a success because I was probably on my way to my very own episode of M600PL and the band prevented it with also an associated weight loss! I was recently revised to a sleeve because I was diagnosed with esophageal dilation due to my band (scary stuff). That part...not so good. At the time I elected to get the band, I wasn’t at a place where I would consider anything more invasive. It is definitely a tough and personal decision. There are folks who are wildly successful with many years under their belt and those where the band has to be removed for whatever reason (even if all of the rules are followed), with significant symptoms and comorbidities due to the band. Have a thorough discussion with your team about the pros and cons for you and do extensive research. If I had to do it again, I would still get the band because I wasn’t ready then. If my first surgery were today, I would have opted for the sleeve instead, but I now have a different mindset (can’t distinguish if my mindset has changed based on my experience with the band or just overall wisdom/lack of fear of the other surgeries). I wish you well with your decision.

    Regrets???

An expression you sometimes hear is that VSG is just a diet with a smaller stomach, which means you may have to be more disciplined with what you eat long term than RNY or DS. It is very easy to eat around any bariatric surgery so to be successful you will need to work on your head issues and not expect your new pouch/sleeve to do all the work. If you’re a food or sugar addict pre-op, you will probably still have challenges post-op. However, the difference will be positive changes to your metabolism and a real opportunity to maintain weight loss long term, assuming you eat healthy and appropriate portion sizes. A risk of VSG is development of or worsening of GERD, which can lead to a need to revise to RNY. This could be a challenge financially if your insurance company will only pay for 1 bariatric surgery per lifetime. But for RNY and DS, you must be committed to taking your vitamins and getting labwork done at least once a year to monitor development of any deficiencies. If you can’tcommIt to this for the rest of your life then a malabsorptive surgery may not be a wise choice. Deciding which type of surgery to have is a big deal so please conduct your own thorough and accurate research on the pros & cons of each and select the one that will work best for YOU. Good luck.

    mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

he basically said if I have no stenosis, no ulcers, no hernias, and the gallbladder issue doesnt solve it, the final thing to try is a revision but he doesnt want to do that because the bypass areas look so healthy. honestly I am really really terrified of having my gallbladder removed. it was my only fear about having wls. that I would eventually need it out. the bypass surgery didn't make me nervous at all. but thinking about having my gallbladder done is making me so panicky. my mom had open surgery back in the day and said it was excruciating. I know it's laparoscopic now. he said he would check for adhesions while he is in there. I am scared of it being converted to open. and I am nervous about what my employer is going to say about me taking MORE time. the whole thing just sucks, especially because it's all speculative. i DO have severe nausea but no pain. I DO have polyps and tons of gallstones... so I guess that can cause this. I am just annoyed and nervous for another surgery. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. He's talking about a revision without first finding out why you are so nauseous. That seems really strange
  20. Hi! I'm new to the forum, so nice to meet you all. I had gastric bypass when I was 22 (12 years ago). When I first had the surgery, I received very little guidance about my new post-op diet. There was no support group, there was no eating plan, there was just...nothing. I dropped from 264 lbs to 160 lbs, but slowly began gaining and am now at 213. At the time, there was very little information about how to make the best of my gastric bypass, and I almost feel like I was cheated the results I could have had, had I been given the resources that are available today. And granted, I take the blame for much of it, but I'm also just...lost. I'm terrified of the weight I've gained back. I don't know if I can get the weight off, I don't know what to do or how to eat, and I don't know if it's even going to be possible. I exercise a lot and I don't eat terribly, but I don't know where to start. I'm even considering going to Mexico for a gastric bypass revision surgery. Any advice you could give would be great.
  21. Not sure why I can't learn by now but I guess I don't. I vomit 2-4x a week, most likely from eating too quickly. Can I do damage? I'm 5 months post op bypass revision from sleeve due to severe revision. 4 lbs from 135 goal. Not sure why I can't learn but I don't. Just curious... Marci

    mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

He said I'll still lose weight because of how much more intestine he bypassed? I'm going to ask him if that means mine won't stretch to "fit" 4oz like others normally do because it already is 4oz. I have a running list of questions for next Monday already. lol. On the upside, Senor Ulcer is almost completely gone! I truly wish they could have removed the gallbladder during surgery since it was already diseased looking. I hope this is the end of my saga. He said if I am still sick after the gallbladder is removed, they will do a revision to make the pouch smaller and remove some intestine. Not thinking about that at this point. I think I'd rather just stay nauseous than have any revisions done. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

feeling of food in esophagus and heartburn?

Doubtful that it is a stricture this far out from WLS. You need to see an experienced gastroenterologist to get a proper diagnosis. They may perform a variety of tests, such as EGD endoscopy, upper GI, Bravo pH, manometry, etc. GERD/heartburn/reflux is a known risk of VSG and it can occur even in people who didn’t have it pre-op. This is one of the main reasons people have revision surgery from VSG to RNY, to resolve or improve GERD/heartburn/reflux. VSG is contraindicated in people with pre-existing GERD. Because of my history of GERD prior to bariatric surgery, my surgeon would only perform gastric bypass on me, not sleeve gastrectomy.
  24. Just using this thread as a running list of my medical/dietary commentary and questions. lol. Called the doc to move up my appointment since I can't eat and he did an emergency endoscopy today. He said everything he can see looks fine. He said he made my pouch twice the normal size and bypassed more intestine than he normally does "in case" I ever need a revision so he has extra stomach to work with. That kind of annoys me. He said it puts me at a higher risk of ulcers, which I developed. I don't really understand why he doubled the size of my pouch. I still get stuffed off 3oz though. He is removing my gallbladder on the 22nd. Pre-op I had a lot of gallstones, polyps, and calcification, so he hopes removing it will get rid of the nausea. It's bizarre though because everything makes me sick. I never, ever have high fat food. Even 0 fat stuff makes me sick. I hope it helps. GI Swallow on the 7th to see if there's a small bowel stricture he couldn't see in the endoscopy, but he doubts it. In the meantime, I guess I just feel sick for 3 more weeks and hope removing the gallbladder helps? I really don't want more surgery... [emoji53] I hope I can make it 3 weeks. He said if I can't bear it anymore to go to the ER and they will do emergency removal. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
