    Only A Few Active Members

and some of us come back because we need revisions!
  3. Here is some info I've got together.. I had lap band to gastric sleeve surgery in 2015. I feel a lot of muscular skeletal pain in my back and side. The pain is very painful and feels like a cramping. I took some OTC pain relievers and they don't seem to work effectively. I am asking anyone out there in the world as to what is causing this pain. It feels neurological and as I know, your not supposed to be in pain with this surgery. I really regret having the surgery and any help would be appreciated. Anyone have any outside opinion in some other state or country? I had the Lap band --- Sleeve revision and found two disc bulges from an MRI.

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

I had my pre-op yesterday (1/8/19). I actually had 5 appointments. 1) pre-op (surgery is 1/21/19), 2) heart sonogram with cardiologist, 3) blood work, 4) dietitian, and 5) stress test wit the cardiologist. I was surprised to learn I do not have to do clears for 2 week pre-op. My sheet says either 4 protein shakes a day or low calorie, low carbohydrate dies of no more than 50-60 carbs per day. No snack type foods, sweets, or starches (bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, peas, cereal, crackers, etc.) I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass.
  5. I also had no pre op diet, but your girl did one anyways!!!! I needed a jump-start, a transition and I felt a little more accomplished (but... I was not a revision) Countdown time!!!! Yay!!!!🎉🎉🎉
  6. So I have one week to go until my revision from Band to RNY. I have been toldnot to do a preop diet but just to stick to clean eating!! I am extremely happy about that and could have kissed the NUT when she told me that as I remember how awful the preop was before my band. But do you know how confusing clean eating is? Yes I know I need to steer away from processed foods and added sugars but apart from that there are so many different variations. I haven’t been told no carbs but I am trying to keep those to a minimum ( except veg). I’ve also given up alcohol. Hopefully that is enough!

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

I am seeing a surgeon in March about the possibility of revision. Need to have gastroscope before the consult to see what options would be available. He is very experienced in bariatric surgery but I would be his first esg revision.

No need to beat yourself up over a set back. Get back on the horse. The sum of small things repeated day in and day out will get you to your goals. Your surgery restriction will become less as you progress out from surgery. The majority of sleevers can consume more food months/years out. Don't waste your first year. It's your best weight loss. You can join us on the January weight loss challenge to stay motivated and get back on track https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/421742-❤-january-2019-challenge-❤/ Things that sleevers should know and prepare for: Stretching the sleeve - It's rare. If you are concerned have your surgeon diagnose it and look into a revision. Many people confuse the normal increased pouch space with stretching. (your stomach has not grown back to full size) Many also confuse grazing with stomach stretching. Grazing is eating small meals (combinations of healthy/unhealthy food) throughout the day that total over your calorie and macro goals. It is as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight. Just because we can consume more calories with the extra space does not mean we have to fill that space. You can eat healthy foods, be satiated, and stay within your calorie goals. Off my soap box. 🙂

Lapband advice needed - feeling weird

Hi I had the lap band for 11 years and only lost like 20 pounds on it I actually lost more on my own years later I finally took that that band out this October 1 because I was just getting sick and lots and lots of a stomach acids so at this point I’m going to get the sleeve February 5 day I wish I would’ve contacted the Bariatrics doctors much sooner if you have insurance you can get it done in the states the cover what they call A revision most doctors won’t do them at the same time it’s usually two surgeries that’s how mine is doing it he is very very good doctor. good luck
  12. When broken down by surgery type, the most common reason for a revisional surgery among those who had banding was band-associated problems, such as migration stenosis or slippage. Among banding patients, nausea and weight-related indications were also common reasons for revision. As for VBG patients, the most common indication for revisional surgery was staple-related disruptions, accounting for 10% of these patients. Nausea due to stenosis and collar migration were also common indications for revision. The most common indications for revisional surgery for gastric bypass patients were reflux-associated and esophagus-associated complications. https://www.medpagetoday.com/endocrinology/obesity/77253 "The dominant reason for corrective revisional surgery was bile reflux (including esophagitis), which occurred only in patients with loop technique GBP," the researchers noted, adding how "this demonstrates the superiority of the Roux-en-Y technique with regard to the need for secondary interventions." Although the small percentage of gastric bypass patients included in the cohort was a limitation, it's still apparent that this surgery accounted for fewer revisionary surgeries. "Among more than 200 Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures, only five (2.3%) required any reoperation," he said. "Revisional surgery carries a higher complication rate than the primary procedure, but if needed, it should not be denied..."
  13. The risk of reflux with a sleeve is very high. Most surgeons won’t do a band to sleeve revision if you have a history of reflux

    January surgeries?!

Im having a sleeve to MGB revision on January 10th. A little nervous. Mostly ashamed about regaining most of my weight despite eating so much less than before. Hoping this surgery is the right tool for permanent WL. Accept any post op advice, especially about maintaining long term.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I was scheduled for Jan, but Dr wants an endoscopy since I’m a revision from sleeve to rny so now my surgery will be Feb 12th. I will also have a hiatal hernia repaired as well as my gallbladder removed at the same time.
  16. I had my sleeve 5 years ago and I can tell I've lost a lot of restriction that I previously had. Has anyone had the fundus revision?
  17. need2bthin!

5 years and it is never too late

I am in the same situation. I had considered doing a sleeve revision to give me the restriction again.
  18. I have seen several people mention gaining weight after 5yrs post-op. I too am starting to experience weight gain and no longer feel the restriction like I use to when I eat. Had anyone had the revision to help get back on track?
  19. It's terrible that they're being so unresponsive, but this will give you an idea. I was also a sleeve to RnY revision. My doctor uses the same diet protocols for both surgeries: 2 weeks full liquids 2 weeks puree 2 weeks soft regular foods as tolerated. Minimum 64 oz fluid/day and 60g protein. 30-30-30 rule (Don't drink 30 minutes before a meal, during, or 30 minutes after) Multivitamin with iron
  20. I’m feeling very frustrated and alone with this process. I had a revision from sleeve to rny to due GERD and Barrets esophogas. I had a bravo study done and my acid scores were in the 90’s. The dr immediately suggested the revision and submitted the paperwork the second week of November. I left for vacation for two weeks and during that time learned that I was approved and they scheduled me for 12/12. I received zero information from a dietician regarding what I should be doing post-op. The dr gave me a print out of the progression from liquid to soft food and literally that’s it. I didn’t have to do the liquid diet, just clear liquids the day before the surgery, and was told to try to eliminate sugar to soften my liver. I have no information on proportion sizes, how many calories, protein I should be getting daily. It all happened so fast, I wasn’t prepared. I had a horrible experience in the hospital and ended up having internal bleeding, needed blood transfusion... my oxygen level drop down to mid 50’s a few times. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. I’m still bruised and sore 😕 I’m starting to feel better and would like to figure out a game plan since I can’t rely on the dr. Any suggestions on where I could find similar information that you would receive from a dietician? I’m guessing that’s my best bet. Incase you were curious... I attached a picture of my bruising about 8-9 days after surgery. look how massive they are! That’s not my stomach, although it looks like one:( it’s my waist/hip area. Any help/advice would be appreciated also, anyone else still sore 4 weeks after surgery? I still struggle with steps and getting in and out of bed. I had a horrible experience in the hospital and ended up having internal bleeding, needed blood transfusion... my oxygen level drop down to mid 50’s a few times. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. I’m still quite swollen and bruised so I think I will lose a few more once I’m completely healed. look how massive they are! That’s not my stomach, although it looks like one:( it’s my waist/hip area.

May I ask why you had to have a revision at 8 months? That seems really soon.
  22. I just had a revision from sleeve to rny on 12/12 due to horrible reflux and barrets esophagus. I started at 180 and have lost 20 pounds. I had a horrible experience in the hospital and ended up having internal bleeding, needed blood transfusion... my oxygen level drop down to mid 50’s a few times. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. Mine is still falling out and I'm 10 months post-op. But, I had revision surgery 8 months out, so that may have contributed to my problem.
  24. It's interesting, does RNY have a larger capacity than sleeves? Does food just not stay in the stomach the same way to give restriction? It's weird to me that @Orchids&Dragons could go from a string bean sleeve, to having more capacity after her revision, when it was only the restrictive sleeve to form the pouch out of?
  25. Hello, My name is Andrea from New Jersey. had my VSG done in September of 2012. At my largest, I was 250lbs. In less than a year post op, I went down to 165lbs. I felt that I looked good! I could fit into so many cute outfits without feeling ashamed of how I felt in my body. Health-wise, it was a bit more complicated. Between my “water-nausea”, not being able to drink and eat at the same time, needing to take vitamins everyday, feeling sick after enthusiastically eating my favorite foods, and then, of course getting gall stones and needing my gallbladder removed in 2013, my VSG came with a lot of mixed feelings. Nevertheless, I was happy to feel like I looked good and have the energy that came along with that. Fast forward to February of 2017, I find out I’m pregnant with my first child. At that point, I had been able to maintain a steady 165-170 lbs. At 36 weeks, I went into labor and subsequently had my daughter a month before her due date. On the day I gave birth, I weighed 200lbs. I thought it was normal. The few days following the birth of my baby girl, I actually went down to 180lbs. Not exactly where I wanted to be, but at the time I thought my body would go back to 165-170lbs. ....Boy was I wrong. My daughter was born in September of 2017. In the winter months, specifically January, February and March of 2018 my daughter was diagnosed with RSV, Influenza Type A, and Metapneumovirus, respectively. My husband and I spent many days in the hospital with her.... stressing, worrying, sad, not getting paid time off (in my case), and, of course.....eating. During this time is when I believe my body began to turn on me. Today, I weigh 209lbs. I went from a size 8 to a 14, I feel that I have less energy, and I know that I’m unhealthy. I seem to have regained an almost insatiable hunger fueled by my constant anxiety and stress. Not to say that I didn’t suffer from these things before, but honestly, I don’t know what has changed exactly that doesn’t allow my body to metabolize quicker and keep the pounds off. I need help, but I’m scared of the actual work of exercising and eating better, because even though in theory, it sounds pretty simple, let’s be honest, those things require a great amount of inner strength and discipline. Just trying to figure out if I can actually do that creates a significant amount of anxiety, stress and, thus ultimately makes me want to eat. That’s the way I find comfort, the way I shut up that voice on the inside. Prior to having my baby girl, I could literally eat whatever the eff’ I wanted, and if I made a minuscule change to my diet, I would lose weight immediately. That’s no longer the case. Nowadays, I feel more like I used to pre-op, and that makes me feel very depressed. I don’t fit in like 95% of my old clothes and I’m slowly but surely needing bigger and bigger sizes. A few months ago, I followed up with my bariatric surgeon to see if there was anything that could be done. He prescribed Topiramate, so I wouldn’t get hungry at night. (It doesn’t work). My other doc prescribed Zoloft (for depression), Bupropion (for weight loss and depression), and Klonopin (for anxiety). Nothing’s really changed. I want to have another baby (hopefully) in a year or two, and I have strongly toyed with the idea of a revision immediately after that. For now though, I don’t feel mentally strong enough to change my circumstances, but I pray that side of me will eventually change, along with my circumstances. Blessings to you all in your journey too 😌 Any kind advice and/or your own stories welcome. ❤️
