Anyone Else Have Nighttime Reflux Coughing Or Vomitting?
jadeesmjk replied to Bekah_GA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OMG, this is totally me! I have been banded since 2008 and I have lost 95 lbs but gained 17 again. I cannot sleep flat anymore and I vomit up food almost every time I eat. Sick of having to carry barf bags with me everywhere and not being able to eat properly. I have an appt next week to see a surgeon and talk about revision to sleeve or bypass. I also take omeprazole daily plus zantac when needed. I do not want to go back to weighing 300 lbs again! I am too old for that and I want to teach for a really long time. I am also worried about the loose skin and nutritional problems that come with GBP......any words of advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. -
I am 4 days out of my RNY. I was prepared for much more pain than I actually had. (Though I would say it was more than the pain of simply skinning my knees! LOL!) I have near zero pain now, just some tenderish incision sites. Nothing that I am taking any pain meds for or anything. I think I just got lucky. There are so many factors that come into play, and it really is unique to each person. Just know that no matter what comes, you can and will get through it. Good luck, you got this!

No more than slightly skinning your knees. Really you do not have to worry about pain. And worry does suck the joy out of Life...

Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?

@silly kitty you look fantastic! I’ve started to find that elbow length or 3/4 length sleeves are my friend. I’m always cold anyways so my loose skin is covered and I’m warmer. Kinda worried about bathing suit season though....been procrastinating the new bathing suit purchase. -
Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?
Guest replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL...outdated toupe? I love that's the first thing that came to your mind. You know, I was initially worried about the possibility of losing hair but now I could care less. If I lose it, there's so many options these days. Lots of reasonably priced wigs and of course an absolute plethora of caps and scarves. Plus, my doctor told me the hair will grow back and a lot of time when it does, it comes back darker than before. I always wanted dark hair so this is exciting news to me lol. I'm still a little nervous about the possibility of loose skin and saggy breasts though. I can't seem to wrap my head around that. But it's better than being morbidly obese. -
Impatience & how to prevent loose skin

Way to Go Taoz, it's thrilling to hear from you! One thing nice about my Bariatric Clinic, weighing in Metric, I have left the Triple Digits behind! Long way I have come down and I'm not through yet! My skin looks like my under- skin Siamese twin was removed but the tired saggy skin remains. But you know what? When I put clothes on , I can hide the bulk of it, no longer looks like I just pushed. it somewhere else! And my facial looks keep changing , not sure who I am going to resemble most! As long as it isn't Boris Johnson from England I think I'll be okay! -

Loose skin is the one constant thing that I have struggled with the most during my weight loss journey. But then I remind myself that I’d rather be carrying around a couple pounds of loose skin rather than the 140+ lbs I’ve lost! I’ve thought about surgery, however it’s very costly and I’m not sure if it will happen for me, so I’m learning to adjust and love my new body. -
Impatience & how to prevent loose skin

As others have stated above, loose skin happens when you lose a significant amount of weight. It will bounce back better if you are still young, have good genetics, have a lot of collagen/elasticity in your skin. Once it's been stretched out a lot by weight, it will remain mostly stretched out whether you lose weight fast or slow, so don't let speed of loss worry you either way. I carried a lot of weight on my arms and legs as well as my torso, so now at 52kg (approx 110lb?) loss and close to goal I have a fair bit of excess skin on my upper arms and inner thighs, as well as tummy. And my poor boobs have shrunk from 16G down to 12E and mostly skin (saw plastic surgeon for consult yesterday and they said once I get a breast reduction I'll be down to a full B/maybe small C!). I'll be getting a Fleur De Lis (vertical as well as horizontal incision) tummy tuck, belt lipectomy (rear tummy tuck), upper arm reducation, inner thigh reduction, breast lift and possibly breast fat transfer if I still look deflated post breast lift. Down from 121kg (BMI ~49) to 69kg (BMI 28) at 13 months post op. -
Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey
Born in Missouri replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I finally replaced what I now realize was an unrealistic goal weight. I don't know why I chose 130lbs but it no longer seems right for me. I've given birth four times and have lots of loose skin that I did not have when I was a young, thin thing. My surgeon and I agreed that 150 is more realistic and attainable. I see my surgeon in August. I think those last 30lbs might be my hardest but I'm not going to stress myself out over them. All in all, the pounds have just fallen from me with very little effort. My hair is still thin and I'm practically flat-chested now. I'm okay with it. I'd rather be flat-chested than one of those big inflated parade floats. -
Anxious - Lonely - No Friends to Support My Journey
Born in Missouri replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm approaching my one-year anniversary since my bypass. My life has changed drastically. I have more energy than I every imagined possible. I wear actual clothes (L or XL), and not fat-lady uniforms from the 4X plus-size section. I still have some body dysphoria. It's often hard not to see myself as still FAT. Others instantly see a different person, but I have a harder time. My face is lean, and no longer pasty and puffy. I do have batwings, which are a constant reminder of what was once a much fuller arm. Skin hangs in folds around my legs and thighs. I'm okay with the skin, actually. I've always dressed modestly and I prefer long dresses. The trick is to stop wearing overly baggy clothing and wear instead clothing that is a little more body contouring. All in all, it has been an amazing journey and I would encourage anyone thinking about this procedure to SERIOUSLY consider it. It has changed my life for the better. I'm no longer the lonely, depressed person I was when I started this post. People CAN change, and I'm one of those people now. -
Impatience & how to prevent loose skin

loose skin factors. 1 age = younger is always better 2 max weight = less is always better 3 how long you were heavy = less is better 4 amount lost = less is better for loose skin worse for your health as to speed of weight loss the first 3 also play a factor in how hard it can be to drop the weight and how fast it comes off -
This surgery isn't new, it is the first part of a duodenal switch which has been around for a long time. A couple of facts about weight - Men generally have male pattern weight gain which gives them a spare tyre rather than an hour glass shape. After menopause women don't have as much oestogen so they accumulate weight around the middle whearas previously they may have gained it more around the hips. You can't predict or influence where you lose weight - the flat belly diet etc are all a load of hype for the purpose of selling books. It will come off where it wants too. You can influence your shape by targeting muscles in certain areas You can also reshape your body with plastic surgery if you can afford to Most people that are obese or morbidly obese have large stomachs to start with so even after weight has been lost it stands to reason that there will be an accumulation of fat and or loose skin in that area.

Impatience & how to prevent loose skin

I dont agree with your lose slowly advice. If people want to lose weight slowly they would just do weight watchers till they get to the weight they want. With having the sleeve done is the time to lose as much weight as you possibly can as fast as you possibly can. I would think more than 85% if not more over weight people who lose the weight have to get skin removed somewhere on there body. so why not lose as much as quickly as possible and have a new start to look the way u want and feel good and be healthy and get fit and into healthier foods. I have had 2 C-sections my stomach fat hangs over my scar so much no matter how much weight if i lost it slowly or fast i will still have hanging, sagging skin like a pancake when i reached my goal weight. -
What did your medical team put on your forbidden foods list? Have you stuck to it or tried anything you weren't supposed to? What was your body's reaction? Anything you've eaten that should have been okay but your body hates and you've added to your forbidden foods list? -------- For me, the only food I've found that I absolutely cannot eat is bread. Like traditional, regular bread. Crackers, tortillas, chips, pizza base (under the toppings), even croissant... All fine. But any sort of regular bread gets stuck within two bites and is painful and makes me need to vomit. I haven't tried grapes or sausage skins or whole oranges/grapefruits which are all on the list, but other things like popcorn, beef, pork, and pasta were on the "no go" list and I've had no problem with those in small doses. That's why it's better to lose slowly, to avoid the big issue of a lot of excess skin. What's your hurry? Let it happen. -

Hi, so what ive been told the best ways to help your skin right now is too moisturize with lotion and put sunscreen on when ur outside and keep your body well hydrated. When you can start exercising toning your muscles few times a week and even with that if anyone has been obese like myself i know i will have alot of lose skin on my stomach hoping my arms wont be a problem and my thighs. But will see. I started at 245 heaviest and before sleeve surgery i was 237 and i just had my gastric sleeve done last week and weigh 233. My skin is very thin and i feel like with my genetics im screwed with how my families skin bounces back. Age, skin damage, and how much u stretched ur skin all take a play in it. So i know when i get under 140 one day im getting a mommy makeover and getting my tummy tucked and my boobs put back where they go. I wish u the best! -

It is highly likely you are going to have some loose skin, how much is likly to depend mostly on genetics, age, history of yoyo dieting/big losses and regains (impacting on elasticity of skin), amount of weight lost etc. Once you have lost your excess fat, skin can take up to about two years for it to contract the most it is likely to. Exercise (building underlying muscle), water, getting some good fats are some good things that may help with the 'appearance' of the loose skin, but not a significant help. Impatience to lose weight is not going to help your situation, it leads to significant disappointment with unreasonable expectations. For weight loss goals be guided by your doctor's expectations. -
Impatience & how to prevent loose skin
Sleeved in NYC posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just over 1 month post-op gastric sleeve. I was at 399 the day of surgery. I'm now down to 259 or so. Lost about 40 pounds. I know that's good -- its only been a month -- but I am getting very impatient. Compared to what I used to eat before surgery, I eat like a mouse now. I feel like I should have lost 100 lbs by now. Has anyone else dealt with this? Also, is there a way to prevent from getting too much loose skin? I don't want to wait until I've lost 100 lbs. to worry about it. Thanks so much. This forum is a great resource! -
Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?

I have loose skin and sagging breast w/ some hairloss (very minimal) but i dont even worry about those things anymore. I was a bit um... preoccupied with it early on but I realized that the further away from a *perceived* problem I get the less I tend to think about it. I am worrying about other things now 😂😥😳 -
I'm 6 years out, lost 150lbs and have maintained pretty well +/- 10 to 15 lbs. But I have noticed that my loose skin belly bulge seems to be growing disproportionately with my weight fluctuations...Even at my lowest weight my lower belly bulge seems to be getting larger with time? Any one else experience this? Any theories? Thx

Wow. Sorry you are struggling. Don't know who told you 3-500cals. That might have been true at 3-4 weeks? But I think the biggest majority of us have cals during the losing mode of 600-850cals/day--very loose average. Maintenance for me is around 1000cals. Even at 900cals my loss if painfully slow negligible. But, we are all different and have different TEE (Total Energy Expenditure). It could be so many things: hormones, medications, genetics, nutritional components, calories, sleep, stress, physical activity/exercise, age, alcohol/caloric drink consumption. You've lost 17 pound in about 12 weeks. That's about 1.4lbs/week which is a little on the low side. The average weekly weight loss is 2-4lbs in the early losing phases. Are you maximizing everything YOU can contribute to this journey? (ie everything within your control) What does your doctor say about your progress/situation? -
Loose Skin, Saggy Breasts and Hair loss...OH MY!?
sillykitty replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with this. Yes, I have saggy skin, saggy boobs. I'm going to have plastics, but just for my own vanity. The only people who see any of that are my bf & I. To literally the rest of the world I look like a normal thin person! Any adult man is going to expect and accept some flaws once you get naked. Just the other morning my bf, who has only known me at a normal weight, was watching me get dressed and asked why I wanted a tummy tuck. It didn't seem bad enough, to him, to warrant plastics. We are always our own worst critic. The thing you have to realize is no one is perfect. My bf is athletic, he runs, he hikes, plays raquetball, multiple times per week. But he also has a deep love for cookies. So I tease him about his sweet tooth, and he teases me about my exercise aversion. It's cliche, but it's true, confidence is sexy! Even if you don't always feel confident, fake it! Fake it till you make it is a real thing.
