I’m 6 days post op and am struggling with having any energy at all. I know it’s early but I’m a fairly active person and this is freaking me out. I feel sickly and tired and dizzy all the time. I’m getting all of my protein and hitting my beverage intake. Any advice?

She has severe behavioral mental health issues and she is threatened by you wanting better. your husband needs to stand up to her and defend you to keep her mental issues from impacting you so greatly and childishly. If he won’t, you have a lot to think about. you deserve to not be belittled and demeaned by her in your own home. You deserve to make your life better. Ignoring her is not an option when she is escalating her behavior. Be blunt and stand up for yourself. It is worth it, trust me. I had to do similar with my own husband before surgery (his behavior) and it feels horrible but is worth finding out where you stand. Either he will stand with you or he won’t and you will make your choices from his actions from there out.

November 2022 surgery support!
Fellbunny replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I bought it so excited. Heated it up immediately when I got home, strained the bits out of it, poured into my little portion control bowl and ate a few bites slowly so ready for it to be amazing. I then handed it off to my husband and told him I will not be eating it. The Tomato and Red pepper soup I shared somewhere has been amazing though. I think its my new favorite. I get all my protein in my 3 shakes so I am okayed for a small bowl of non- protein soup daily. Sent from my SM-F916U using BariatricPal mobile app -

@GreenTealael Here ya go! Still delicious! haha 287 cal. 24g protein ATE IT ALLLLL 😋 I attached the recipe also, I actually made a double batch (Fed other people too) but used half the butter required and added baby carrots. I don't think the butter was needed, so next time I make it I am going to skip the butter all together and see how it is. I also used the Au jus mix and not brown gravy mix. Meal prep tip: add some juice to each dish so it doesn't dry out. -
September surgery buddies!!

That sounds like a great breakfast and good amount of protein! I love avocado and hopefully chicken and eggs will get better for me sooner rather then later. I think my stall has officially broken after more than 3 weeks! Knock on every piece of wood and so hope I'm not jinxing myself lol. I have lost weight 3 days in a row so I'm counting that as breaking my stall. I'm sad that I didn't get a large weight loss like I've seen people post about after a stall, but I'm soooo happy just to be moving in the right direction again! Everything is so much easier without that stall hanging over me. I want to exercise again and I have energy just because I'm not as depressed. I never quit my walking but I just didn't want to do it or progress my routine. Now I'm back on track and excited again. Hopefully its a long time until my next stall lol. -

wait 3 months to eat carbs?!
kcuster83 replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each program has it's own set of guidelines for their own reasons. My theory is that if you trust them to preform surgery then trust them to guide you through the process. Follow their plan. My program never limited carbs. As @Tomo said, just get protein in first then some veggies and from there eat what you want while staying within your daily calories. I think other than a single bite here and there I probably couldn't get carbs in till 3/4 months after surgery anyway though. Now, it just depends on the day. Sometimes I eat 30 carbs and other days I eat 150. -
wait 3 months to eat carbs?!
Tomo replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, seems like post-op is all over the place depending upon the program. We all have different medical needs too so maybe there are some surgeons that require a different plan depending on height/weight/comorbities... Etc. for each of their patients. My surgeon wanted me on good carbs post op as soon as possible (fruits/vegs/whole grains, oat bran... Etc.) And of course, the typical general rules. Protein first to make sure I met that first. Lots of liquid in between, no drinking until 30 minutes after. -
Hi everyone, I'm having a really tough time dealing with my mother in law. There's no kicking her out, my husband won't because his other siblings won't take her in. (She tried to split up his brother with his new wife just after they had a baby, and his oldest sister has ended all contact with her) Part of the reason I did this surgery is to have a reason to say no to her feeding me/guilt tripping me to eat junk food. Before she moved in 5 years ago. I was 130lbs. I know it's 100% My responsibility what goes in my mouth, but over the years, she's made it so hard. I was done, defeated. After reaching out and getting therapy, they think cutter her off will be the only way to have long term weightloss success. She's not meant to do any shopping but she does, all she buys is junk food in the reduced section. She buys so much, she bought a massive freezer to store it all in. The worst part is that she has no idea of how calories work, so she thinks eating healthy food = will undo all the junk she ate, so in her mind by eating all of it, after a chocolate binge, she'll lose weight so she will eat all the meat and vege in the house (she's about 450lbs) and then guilt trips us because we didn't eat the 5 cakes, 6 packs of donuts she bought etc. I thought with this surgery I could just say "I can't eat those things, they could kill me" and maybe she would stop buying this much junk. Sadly no, she's going H.A.M at me now. She threw a tantrum when my husband told her I was getting the surgery, tried everything in her power to stop me from getting it done. Once I had it done, she started spreading rumors, said I spend $25000 on cosmetic surgery etc, she's just really making life hard for me, mentally and physically. She's also started eating my protein water, eating my Optifast, denying it. Then offering me things like donuts when I have no food in the house, which I can't eat, I had surgery 15 days ago, and shes refusing to acknowledge it. Instead she'll buy my favorite junk food and put it on display and keep telling me it needs to be eaten NOW. I found out a few days ago, the meals I make for my husband she keeps throwing in the bin to justify buying the junk, she said he throws them out because he hates them and he's a bad husband and I should leave him, I told him this and he said he'd never do that and that she's been saying him I'm useless and I'm not cooking for him and if he wanted she can ask me to leave. So she's clearly started trying to put us against each other, he said she used to do this to him and his siblings as kids and we just need to ignore what she says and tell each other, so we know what's going on. I'm just so exhausted, I can't keep living like this, I have to hide my food and I've started to think about the next stages, which are going to be so much harder to stop her from sabotaging. I just want to be able to meal prep and have a normal life but my husband has said, she can't buy a house until interest rates settle down, there's no rentals in the area and he can't kick her out because she will have nowhere to go, so we just have to put up with her until then. I just think I needed to rant about this but at the same time I'm just really tired and I just want to have a normal life. It feels like I'm probably going to be hiding optifast and just using that for meals until she's gone, because I can't trust anything in the kitchen.

New Here and Planning Surgery in October
katvondemon replied to NewBeginningsMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A little late to this thread but I had my sleeve on 10/24 so I am just past the 3 week mark. The pre op diet sucked. The first couple of days wasn’t so bad as I drank a lot of water, broth, jello and protein shakes. However 48 hours before surgery I was told to stop the protein shakes. I immediately started feeling weak and had headaches from the lack of nutrition. It was the longest 2 days ever. After the surgery it was weird. I had some pain and nausea the first day or two but that went away thankfully. The weird part is I don’t really get hungry or thirsty. I’m eating soft foods now and can’t have more than a couple bites before I feel the fullness pressure. But I could absolutely not eat and be fine. I want to eat because I miss food, but physically I’m not getting signals that I need to eat. I’m also struggling with fluids because I can’t drink more than a small sip at a time so it takes a long to drink a single glass of water. Overall I’m doing well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I thought I would in the first few weeks but I’m not worried. I know my body is going through all the trauma of surgery and lack of calories that it’s got to work itself out. My clothes are fitting better though so I know something is happening. -

I thought those meals looked pretty flash for economy @sillykitty 😉. Do some people actually properly measure ingredients??? Even if I follow a new recipe I rarely follow the measurements exactly adding extra ingredients, not adding others or reducing or increasing how much they say to use. I’m one of those ‘that looks about right’ cooks. Dinner last night. See just my usual vegetables & protein - honey & soy chicken lovely legs. Reheated leftover dish too. I added some teriyaki & oyster sauce to make them a little more moist. Back when I was losing I could barely eat one med/small leg. -

So far I am doing well. The protein shakes are so filling. I am supposed to have 4 a day but geez its tough. I haven't been hungry because they fill me up. I am making sure I get my water in and some broth. Last night I did wake up hungry so i had a couple bites of jello. How are you feeling? -

I started my pre op yesterday so far so good. The protein shakes are so filling. I am not going to be cooking or attending thanksgiving until after the dinner is finished, I know me and i will be so tempted to just have a bite and I am not risking it. As I get more adjusted to the liquids I will be better suited to be around all the goodies but for now.... -
Okay so another question I had to ask if I loved lifting five pound weights at the gym last year and working my cardio out on the treadmill would that work a little for my weight loss before I get surgery and when should I start if my surgery is in March or April. Thinking of walking more I try to get out of the house twice a day for now and I drink my premier protein drinks is this something to drink after the workout or during it if it's clear protein I have to get to do this so you think it would work I'm working on it so bad I got so much confidence and encouragement from my family and this support group and a very good best friend of mine.Even tho before I got 6,000 steps or more in if I walked all day with water and a small snack of fruit or veggies. I am so determined to get this surgery I write down everything now just wondering should I start going back to the gym because going on the treadmill makes me realize walking and a healthier lifestyle is better for me then what I did before. I had recently bought slim fast and I didn't know Amazon has all the stuff I need before my wieghtloss surgery. Slim fast isn't something that helps so I gave them to my sister.on Amazon I found the protein 2 o waters because my adopted sister is going through the same kind of thing only I think hers is the sleeve. I am so excited to be going through this journey because I waited 20 years for something to happen like this. I was once very skinny when I was a kid due to lots of health problems especially diabetes I gained alot of weight always hunger thirsty etc..I'm still training my brain to say no on certain things. It def works so far. I lost around 50 pounds since last year or was it forty pounds and I'm trying my best to loose it the diets working that im on I eat more veggies rather then candy. What are your thoughts on sugar free candy I think there are additives in it I cut those out as well.

I agree on the stalls. I know its normal and expected but I still felt like a failure. I wish I could eat chicken more. Its the perfect food to get the protein without the extra fat. Right now I eat mostly ground pork because it has less fat than the beef I used to buy and its even cheaper then beef too. So win win but still not as good as chicken lol. What do you eat for breakfast that has chicken? I have not been liking eggs so breakfast has been my hardest meal for protein unless I eat yogurt. Chili has been my favorite food atm. I bought some Hormel turkey chili and it was pretty yummy and not too bad for me, although seemed high in calories. -
Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
NP_WIP replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have taken the first step to recognize what you are doing wrong. It is a journey and some days will not be as good as the previous one, concentrate on doing better tomorrow, start your solids and keep your protein and water intake. Workout if there is head hunger or some emotional trigger that makes you want to eat at night and remember why you started this journey, and how far you have come. Vomiting food 10 weeks post op
qtdoll replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont think our bodies are meant to handle such heavy foods so soon. Cheeseburgers will definitely overwhelm our bodies! I suggest eating it protein style first (lettuce wrapped) before trying it with bread! -
Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op
qtdoll replied to heartofmercury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah I would move up the appointment with the dietician! I talked to my Kaiser support group leader during my stall & refreshing my memory about what & what not to do helped. She mentioned switching your protein sometimes helps & that's what did it for me! -
Syntrax Nectar Experts?
Bunny78 replied to Vidalia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of you make me have hope! So I’ve tried powdered shakes and can’t seem to get it right. I am currently not working, because I’m only 2 1/2 weeks post-op, but after I heal I will be going to work and as a school bus driver I don’t always have a fridge so the powders would be nice to keep on hand for making shakes on the go. Currently using the premier pre-made shakes and they have to be ice cold. I currently have organic protein with super food (from Costco) and nectar and both are flavorless. I was thinking I would use these in in juice, but I can not seem to get it right. I seem to keep getting chunks, or super gritty, or the foam will never go away. any and all ideas are wanted and needed thanks in advance, chris -
Vomiting food 10 weeks post op
Arabesque replied to skinny44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you just eat the patty or the roll too? Bread can be very filling & you may have taken a much too large bite resulting in you bringing up what you ate. Think a level teaspoon size bite. Are you eating slowly? Like a couple of minutes between the small bites? A conversation with your dietician may be helpful as it sounds like you’re not making the best food choices (chips, burger). Focus on protein only then a few vegetables if you are able. You may need to keep to softer proteins for a little while longer too - we all heal differently & may struggle with certain foods for a couple of months. Also contact your surgeon just to be sure there’s not another cause. -
It could be too early for you or you may be like some of us for whom a lot of the more processed carbs like bread, pasta & rice just sit more heavily in our tummy. Plus, they can fill you up very quickly which could set off vomiting. Maybe leave them for now & try again in a month or so. There are some high protein, vegetable-based pastas so maybe try those instead of traditional pasta.

How long did you drink protein shakes after bypass?
Therese22 replied to Mona Ometuruwa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I Love this and agree, I also appreciate the post up above the protein breakdowns in different foods. I do not do protein shakes everyday but that means I am ensuring I am hitting my protein goals. I love Protein yogurts like the Oikos triple zero brand-can add additional protein powders here; I also add unflavored protein or vanilla flavored protein to my oatmeal ( I love oatmeal in colder weather months fiber + protein)-this can get me to close to 40 grams of protein in the morning . You may need to meal prep to ensure you are getting what you need till you can eyeball it and know. Also, Vitamins are KEY. -
Jan 10th here. It just got very real. My doctor is allowing a high protein diet 2 weeks before surgery and the liquid diet only 2 days before. Is this normal? I know everyone is a little different.

Able to drink and eat normal 2 weeks Post Op
bestdecisionmade replied to victoria0322's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was (and still am) the same. I've always been able to eat more and tolerate more than my fellow sleevers, at every point of the journey. I worried like crazy about this (see my early posts...) but now I'm so grateful for the ability to eat "normally". Try as much as you can to trust the process. As long as you meet your protein and water needs, you should be okay. I'd also say less mashed potato and more scrambled eggs or cottage cheese. That will affect your feeling of fullness. I'm now very near my goal weight, just 7 months after surgery. I eat all types of food, nothing is off limits (apart from chocolate - my trigger food) and I eat between 1400 and 1800 calories a day and I'm still losing.
