I found experimentation to be the best thing. An egg mixes well with tuna and makes a nice patty with a little olive oil. Sprinkle some salt on it and u have a crispy tuna patty - tons of protein too. Maybe some crab meat? Shrimp sautéed in a little butter and seasoned well? Salmon patties? Chicken salad? It's not the meat that won't sit well, it's the DRY meat. Add some moisture with butter, gravy, etc. make it more medium than well done. The point behind no corn or enriched flower the first couple months in the more successful programs is because our bodies NEED protein and theirs ZERO need for enriched flour and corn. Some of these programs around are nothing more than herding fat people thru a turnstile and knowing they will be back for revisions. Do some research. Don't eat enriched flour or corn. Don't drink alcohol, etc etc. Make smart decisions.
  2. I currently have a band and now I am seeking a revision to the RNY. I wish you the best of luck!!! p.s. listen to the doc
  3. Hey Y'all! Had surgery on Monday and I am so BLESSED!!! My doc was able to do my revision as well!! WhooHoo!!! I don't have to go back in August to get sleeved!!!! He said everything went really well, if long. I went in about 10:30 and made the recovery room (which I have no memory of!) about 1/1:15-ish. I did bleed enough for him to mention it but nothing overtly worrying. He was a little surprised was all. Said I had very little scar tissue so doing the revision was a no-brainer for him and he was happy to do it. Monday night was a little rough. I went too long between pain med doses and got in to a little too much pain/uncomfortablness with it. My BP spiked up to 168/115 and to say my nurse wasn't happy is an understatement. When she checked me again 2 hrs later, after the pain meds had kicked in, I was back in a good place again. Tuesday was good, drank my 2 oz of shake for Breakfast and again for lunch. Then they went ahead and gave me more at dinner since it was taking so long for the pharmacy to process my Rxs to go home. Didn't finish it b/c my wheelchair arrived and it was time to go home! Long trip home. An hour. In a 4x4 on big tires and cruddy mtn roads. Took more pain meds and went to bed! Slept well. Had some nausea this morning and dry-heaved for a bit. Called in and got an Rx for nausea. Hubby went and got that for me and I've been fine since. Getting ready to head to bed in a bit. My kindergartener has "graduation" in the morning and I think I'll be up for it! Very happy about that! I'll be doped up but I'll be there!!! So that's it in a nutshell. So glad to be on the other side of it all. Best wishes to all who are following!!!!

Surgeon trying to talk me into band.

better to travel once for a sleeve than two or three times to get it revised.
  5. I had a consult with a surgeon and he's trying to talk me into the band. Given my bmi is only 36, He thinks I will loose a great amount of weight and become malnourished. I believe there are other reason for his push on the band. Like follow ups and the fills, means more $$. I over heard him through the wall, to the room next to mine, trying to push the band on another patient. Should I give the band a try first then have revision later if it fails?? So stressed over this!

    Dr. Aceves

I've been to Dr. Aceves twice for surgery, as well as my sister having surgery by him the same day as my first surgery. Both Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos excel in compassionate skilled care. The staff is very responsive to any needs you may have and their on-site patient coordinator, Yolanda, is a gem. I was there last Monday for my revision surgery from Lapband to VSG. I went totally alone, not having a family member that could go along and the friend that was planning to help me got terribly sick with the flu. I still went for surgery and I never had a doubt. From the moment I was picked up at San Diego Airport until the moment I was returned I knew I was in safe hands.

    ABC '06 January Chat

Hi ladies! I'm another one who hasn't posted here in a loooooong time. I am completely stalled, haven't lost anything in over 6 weeks. I went on vacation the begining of December and hadn't wanted to get a fill before then for fear I would get too restricted while out of state. Then, didn't have time to fit one in before the holidays. I finally went in last week he couldn't access my port at all. He thinks it's totally flipped now. So I'm going in next Tuesday to get a port revision. I don't even have to be put completely under. They just give me a local and enough Versaid so I don't care what they're doing and make a new incision over my old one, reposition the port, and stitch it back into place. He's going to put it closer to the skin so it shouldn't flip and will be easier to access. Which means if I ever get to goal weight (God willing!) I may need a low profile one put in, but at this point I don't care. I just want it to work finally. I feel like I haven't even been banded this last 2 months. I have no restriction at all, so can eat pretty much anything. Not as much as before, but I can eat more than I should. I'm a little nervous to finally get it fixed though. I feel like I'm first getting banded. I never did get good restriction, so I'm not even sure what it feels like. He's going to give me a nice big fill while he's fixing my port, so by next week I'll be finally able to work with my band! Yay! Now I just need to stock up on some liquids and mushies for the first few days after I get my revision and fill. Keep up the great work ladies! I'm so jealous of some of your stats. You are all doing fantastic.

    Maintaining Weight While Travel

Though I have not traveled for that length of time post op, a few suggestions that helped me on my relatively short sojourns were to plan ahead. I always travel with a few bottles of Water to stay properly hydrated and to help stave off hunger if it's too soon to have my next meal. Keep healthy Snacks with you in the event that you are delayed with having your next meal. Nuts travel well and don't need refrigeration. Be careful to continue to watch your portion sizes, and get some exercise as often as it is possible. The most important thing, as Cheryl shared is to revise your thinking about food; yes you will be traveling to exotic places...but is the local food really the main reason you are there? How about looking at the local customs and scenery your priorities, along with your research the priorities... Safe travels...
  9. I don't see how or why a band would ever be offered when the RNY is one of the best surgeries available...? A band is old technology with known complications.. I have heard that the bypass can be revised by overstitch to tighten the pouch up if needed... I don't know what the band will do to help if the bypass didn't do it already...

    Band 2 Sleeve Weight Loss

Hi Sara, My husband and I had the revision done it Tijuana June 1st. After doing months of research we decided to go with Dr. Kelly. He charged us $5500 for the sleeve and an addition $500 for the revision, so we paid a total of $6000 each. He offered the choice of 2 days in the hospital and 3 days at the hotel or 3 days at the hospital and two days at the hotel. We were very nervous since we have 3 girls and knew that there was a higher chance of complications since we were revision. We asked a lot of questions about the surgery. Initially with Omar the assistant and we spoke with Dr. Kelly on the phone. The way he spoke with us gave us the confidence that we needed to have the procedure done with him. So, we flew in to San Diego from Miami. Our flight arrived almost at 10pm but Cecy Dr. Kelly's wife was waiting for us at the terminal. She absolutely wonderful and caring. She offered to either take us to the hotel or check in to the hospital. We chose the hospital since we would have to get up at 5am and get ready if we stayed at the hotel. When we arrived at the hospital at 11pm we were surprised to find not only Omar the assistant waiting for us but also Dr. Kelly. They were there to greet us and make sure we were comfortable. We sad down and spoke for a few minutes as we were being admitted. We were shocked to find nurses and doctors that spoke english. The staff at the hospital and the level of care we received is by far the best I have ever encounter in any. Hospital. Our post op experience was truly amazing. I know everyone is different. But we took our fist steps two hours after surgery. Compared to my recovery from lapband this was unbelievable. We did shopping, we went to have our teeth laser cleaned and did just about anything everyone would normally do (except eat solid food). Dr. Kelly and Omar met us for Breakfast at the hotel. They were so kind as to invite us to Dr. Kelly's birthday party that night with his family and friends. In the end all I can say is we came as patients and left as friends. Everyone was amazing. Dr. Kelly is not the cheapest or the most expensive, but he is the one we felt comfortable with. You will find that many people have similar success stories like mine with other doctors, you will need to do your own research to see who you feel comfortable with. But hopefully you will at least get two or three good doctors to research from this post. I'm sorry for the long story, I'm just so excited to have this lapbad off and I feel so great! Tanay

Well I have PEIA, which is one of the worst insurances to have for this surgery. They agreed to pay to take out my band, but would not pay for the revision. So I was self pay. But Dr. Quinlin did talk to them to try and get them to approve it. Honestly that meant a lot to me because no other doctor has tried to help like he did. I am still feeling a bit sore, but overall I feel good. The recovery with my band was easy compared to this. But I would never recommend the band to anyone because of all the problems I had with it.

I am from Clarksburg and Dr. Quinlin did my surgery on Monday (Aug. 26). He removed my band and revised me to gastric. I really like him as a surgeon/doctor. He was really the first doctor to try to help me with all the trouble I was having with my band. My original surgeon left WVU a year after I had my surgery, which left me on my own to find a new one. I then went to see one in Charleston and he didn’t seem very interested to help. Like I said, I really think he is a good doctor. And it makes me feel better that he trained under the doctor that did my parent’s surgeries in the late 90’s.
  13. Does anyone know any surgeons in Temecula/murrieta area or even in riverside that they would recommend? I'm looking into a arm lift revision due to my scars being very noticeable and thick. Thank u
  14. Hi. I am new to the site and was wondering if anyone has had the Lap Band over Bypass revision surgery. If so, how as it been? I am scheduled to have this procedure done in 2 weeks.

    RNY November 2017

Hi all! So I had Lap Band surgery in 2014 and lost about 100 lbs. Only to start having chest pains that my doctor said were caused by my band. So the fluid was drained, and back came all of the weight lost (except 10 lbs.). I asked for revision, and was denied by my insurance, but after writing a letter asking for an appeal, they have reversed that decision. Yay! Now back to life. Surgery for revision to gastric bypass is set for 11/07/2017. Excited scared!
  16. The most weight I lost with the band was pre-band and 2 months post band. The the weight started coming back on. It made me gag, puke, and the band itself shows on the outside. At one point the port turned and was difficult to fill. The main thing...my appretite was not suppressed. My stomach never felt full...just me gullet to the point of drooling. I have the original band whatever it was called, not the newer version. I have spoke to people who had the band and have had the GS revision and all are pleased. I guess I will have to play the waiting game. But going back to square one just makes no sense to me.
  17. I'm probably not being very objective about the sleeve right now. I think it could be an option for someone who wants to revise because their band was so problematic, but if you're thinking of revising because of disappointing weight loss, I'm not sure you'd be all that much better off.
  18. A year ago, I went in for a Lap band to SIPS revision, but there were complications with the removal of lap band, so the surgeon cut things short and only did the sleeve portion of the procedure. I was massively disappointed (especially since I was self pay), but wasn't much I could do about it. I had good results initially. I lost 50 lbs during the first 'honey moon' 4-5 months, then things just stagnated. I dieted really really hard, went to gym every other day, and even tried Intermittent Fasting, but my weight would just bump around the same 3-4 lb range. I just was stuck. This went for 2-3 months, until I finally gave up, at which point the weight starting coming back pretty fast. Kinda crazy (and very $$$$) but I decided to go back in and have the SIPS procedure completed. My surgery was a few days ago. I now have a ton of questions post-op, but for starters, I'm wondering if anyone else out there is Sleeve to SIPS revision. I figure there can't be too many of us... My #1 question would be: Will there be another weight loss 'honey moon'? Or - since my sleeve wasn't touched - will my eating habits remain pretty much were they were pre-op? I ask because I've heard that the Sleeve is responsible for losing the weight, and the bypass part is responsible for keeping it off. Just curious.
  19. I've done a ton of research all over the net and here, but I'm getting cold feet at the moment. I've read of lots of people that are happy they did the band, have lost a lot of weight, happy now, etc. I understand that its just a tool, and it will take work, lifestyle change, exercise, etc. I'm 48, 330, 6'1, and am determined to finally do something about my weight. In my 30's, I went from 283 down to 211, but have slowly put all that back on plus more over the last 20 years. For as many 'happy' band stories that I read about, I see as many or more disasters: slime, dumping (whatever that is), a lot of pain, slipping, having to get the band removed, etc. Almost all of these disaster people have said they needed WLS, and revised to the sleeve. Every one of them wished they had gone with the sleeve in the first place. I know there are risks with both, and issues with both, but can that many people be wrong, wishing they had just done sleeve first? Help with advice please people, I'm scheduled for band surgery in three weeks, and am considering either going with sleeve or forgetting WLS altogether.
  20. I never had any complications from the band, unless you call not being able to eat a lot of healthy things because they would get stuck a complication. I also could never find the sweet spot, and I got real good at eating fattening slider foods to get around it if it felt too tight. I just hated food constantly getting stuck (and yes, I chewed like crazy), not being able to eat salads and fruits like grapes and oranges, and the feeling of the port bumping my ribcage. One of the most embarrassing things I dealt with was running out of a restaurant in downtown Santa Fe after a fancy meal and basically throwing up out in a dark alleyway. The bathroom was full and I didn't want to have to do it in front of people. Getting all that plastic out of my body was so freeing. Living with the sleeve is completely effortless. I love it and would recommend it to anyone not happy with their band. Fills, schmills - who needs them??? In Texas there are plenty of surgeons experienced in revisions. I was also self-pay, so I know this is not a decision to take lightly. Good luck!

    Band to bypass approved today

That is just wonderful news. I am so happy for you and excited that you're having success with your revision. Personally, I'm tired of waiting. I refuse to pay for this myself since my insurance policy clearly covers revisions. They're just thinking that I won't pursue it the same as many others -- but they don't know who they're messing with. I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL!
  22. My new surgeon to be, did my endoscopy yesterday and said my sleeve is dilated and has a bulge, he said it's not my fault, the sleeve was too big to begin with..causing weight loss failure. He advised that it could be revised with no issues. Now I have to wait and find out if my insurance will approve, since I have no bariatric benefits. I am so frustrated...

@@sleeveee Hi, I'm sorry you had some trouble with the procedure. I know when Ken and I changed Dr.'s the new Dr. really advised Ken and I that he felt we would have been better sleeve patients then band because of Ken's diabetes and my hormonal issues the malabsorbtive bit with the band would have worked faster for us. We are not in a big race to get the to the finish line so we just work it as it is and when we get there we get there. It's been slow and steady but we have not had any regain and that's a BIG plus in my book all other medical issues aside. He did tell us though that if we needed to revise for some reason in the future it would mean removing the band and healing internally few a few months before sleeve surgery could be performed so your experience especially if the liver and stomach have that kind of trauma is not out of the ordinary. Hang in there...your gonna get where you want to be!! How are you doing today?
  24. This is interesting, I had a revision from lap band to RNY on December 6, 2017 and I am waking up the same way. I hadn’t thought nothing about it. [emoji102]

HATED the band, LOVE the sleeve!

And no more fills.....being poked....too much fill....too little fill....what a relief! How are all the revisions doing with weight loss now that you can eat things you couldn't with the band? I am at a total standstill....I lost 15 imediately after the revision, but have gained it back and not losing anymore. Is anyone else experiencing this? Nancy
