Initial Appointment
Blondie638 replied to rockdutchess82's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One of the things they told me is to let them control the journey. I believe that to an extent... But basically what I took is tell them what I want/need then let them do their work. Depending on the situation they may have called me right away. Right now I'm waiting for them to set up my phsyc Evals and nutritionist stuff. It's been a few days (4 total) but u think its bc of the holiday and the weekend. If ur concerned about something call them! After all your paying them for their service. Lemme know if u need any more help! I've met Austin team and San Antonio team! Their all great!! -
Everyone's good fill spot is different. Just hang in there and keep going for your fills. Until I hit that spot I needed to feel restricted I was also getting fed up and anxious. Finally, I got there but even now I keep going for my adjustments because I have some evaporation each time and have to get a tweak fill to keep me at that good restriciton. Don't give up and the most important thing of all is to keep going and making your appointments until you get there.

Hey guys, Need a little advice. I am day 5 post op ( full liquids) & am waiting for the "other shoe" to drop. Like its just too good to be true. Please know I'm not bragging I'm seriously worried that somethings wrong. I haven't thrown up- not once. Haven't felt nautious, haven't had gurgling, or pain when drinking. No problems with "surgical gas". I can do my Protein shakes but I don't want them. ( I want glorious creamed soups). I can drink Water. I can fart. Etc... I don't have that feel it go down issue. I feel like did they even do the sleeve? I have pain at incision sites but thats it. I am worried bc I was ready to have all those problems & bc I have none of them I feel like maybe they made me too big on the inside? Anyone else feel no difference on the inside post op? allons-y

just wanted to let you all know of my experience. my BMI is between 35 and 40, and my program was concerned that I may not be approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield with just hypertension. Therefore part of my program included being evaluated for other conditions. It turned out that I have both fatty liver and severe sleep apnea. while I am not thrilled to know that my obesity has led to all of these conditions, it does help my cause for getting surgery approved. I completed my program last week and my packet was submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield late last week. I called customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield a couple of times just to check and I found out early this week that they had approved my surgery within three hours of submission of my packet! I found out before the bariatric surgery office could let me know. good luck to you all.

Thinkbruce I love your video and I must say I completely understand what you mean, I was in the same boat, eating healthy and exercising everyday while battling with my stomach's demand to be fed. Do you recall how many calories you would eat at each stage? How many to you take in now? I am currently 12 days post op and I'm taking little under 300 calories, I'm having a hard time taking my Protein, everything I've tried tastes disgusting to me. Thank you for sharing your success story with us. -
I'm not sure if I qualify as a success story yet but I do believe I experienced a life changing event. It took me years to pull the trigger on surgery. I've gained weighed steadily over the last 10 years despite doing what doctors had advised me to do. A myriad of reasons and overall giving up led me to where I was. Oct 7th I weighed in at 248lbs. As a 5'2 woman I was a size 20 comfortably. I realize now how in denial I was over where I had got too. Do you have that one picture that made you cry? I do. I never took any pics until my husband and I celebrated 10 yrs of marriage in Puerto Rico. This before picture was what made me get surgery a month later. The now pic is from today after playing in the snow with my girls. I'm not even at goal and unbelievably happy. Just thought I'd post the pics bc they were my motivation from others.

mine wouldn't Bc it raises your heart rate in many patients.

I was thinking that today Maybe I'm not eating enough protein. It's mostly been yogurt, ricotta, and soup. I haven't been having the Optifast bc I'm just so sick of it. I should probably try Muscle Milk or something else.

Just wondering if anyone else has this & if so how hard was it to get approved?

That's BS that they charge cash customers one rate and insurance companies another. Again, policies like that are what drive up insurance rates and yet all people do is b***h about how greedy the insurance companies are. Sigh.

Well, the bank denied us (I was expecting it anyway) even though we had a co-signer. Our co-signer (my Dad) lives in BC and the bank said that they couldn't do it because they didn't think that the loan would be secure enough between provinces. My Mom and Step-Dad co-signed for our van so they arn't prepared to co-sign anything else. Now, I am back to square one. We don't want to go with the finance company through the clinic because of the high interest rate. I don't what to do. I am kind of depressed now *sniff, sniff*. My Mom says not to give up hope but right now I feel hopeless!! ~Dawn~

after the first one, yeah . Your stomach gets tougher the more times you get it done....I think its bc you build scare tissue and you dont feel it as much

Good luck with your choices. I, myself had a choice of the band or sleeve with my insurance. I know two people that have had bypass, and have gained some weight back as they are stretching their stomachs back out. I figured the sleeve would do the same. So, I chose the band bc if I srart gaining I can then add fluid to my band. Again, goodluck. Its a very personal decision only you can make.

Went to my first support group meeting at Ches. Reg. They had a plastic surgeon speak for most of the time. I enjoyed the question and answer period at the end with those that are post op. I'm excited about going to these meetings bc they seem very informative. I like hearing from those that have had the surgery already and are at different stages in their journeys. I'm starting to make some changes now like they suggest before even having surgery. How are you two doing? Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Thank you so much for all the info. After A LOT of calling and talking I finally did succeed in getting an on-base referral. My base is only 30 mins away but some of our bariatric surgeons are deployed so they were kickin' us off base. I feel fortunate to have made it this far. However, my surgeon isn't exactly a pro at band to sleeve revisions; he's only done one BUT he is a very sincere, caring, and competent surgeon he's done lots of bypasses. He spent over an hour with me to answer all my questions, he even drew pictures for me to really grasp what he may encounter when he gets in there bc I've had my band for 4.5 years there may be too much damage to do a regular sleeve. Anyway, thanks again it means a lot to have a place to come to that offers so much support.

Oh, honey. I feel for you. You had better take some deep cleansing breaths... I have had a lovely time fighting with BC/BS of California. I have read posts both positive and negative about BC/BS of Texas. I will think good thoughts for your. (((hugs)))

Congrats on getting your date. Sucks you had to deal with this BS though. I have a very long fuse but this would have put me over the top. I would have for sure complained to her first then to her higher up even if it's the surgeon. Like you said if she can't handle the workload they need to get someone else to help. Or just get someone more competent. Good luck with your surgery, hope all goes smooth from here out.

I must let you know, I live in Michigan, but have California Blue Cross. I know they are seperate, but I'm sure have very simular requirements. So far from what I understand, MI BC now only requires 6 mo diet, and CA BC still requires 12 mo. But call and verify. I'm going to too.

Anybody's spouse an "eating buddy"?
BethFromVA replied to BethFromVA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh wow, thanks for filling me in y'all! :cool2: Yes, the seminar WAS informative. I got a bit... disgusted... with one woman who, when it was listed what some people may not be able to eat, exclaimed to her friend, "PASTA??" They were the first ones to leave when the seminar was over. Guess they were looking for that magic cure-all which allows us to keep doing what we are doing and lose tons of weight. I have set up an appointment to begin the process next week. Well, actually I secured the date. This doctor is not in my network, though his father is. This doctor does these operations exclusively, so that is a plus, but I will talk to one of their office personnel who does the insurance to see what my out-of-pocket would be if I DO use him, not being in my network. Still have not told hubby what I'm contemplating. He's a bit perplexed that I am being so silent. I told him last night I needed to get all MY information together first before I started potentially dealing with HIS negativity and BS... -
Can I pay for an insurance plan that will cover the sleeve?
Teachingmom replied to Teachingmom's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yes, I have been so discouraged! I am willing to change my family plan to another carrier. But I just don't know who to talk to. I do realize it might be more expensive to change since this BC is through my job. But I'm still open to changing. I'm sorry you're experiencing the same disappointment! Hopefully the right person/people will see this & offer some hope!
