OK so here it is... I feel like I am drinking FV flavored water bc of the decaf!! Very bummed bc coffee is my crack too! I'm someone who drank 6-7 travel size mugs of coffee a day. A DAY !!! Bad... Yes.. But I knew doing this changes were coming. Overall the coffee mate, sf, powdered cream isn't half bad... I decided to do the powder this time as I have been making a mug of tea and taking two to three sips satisfied and I dump the rest. So the powdered lasted longer than the actual cream. Once I get to 8 weeks post op you can bet I'll be back to my morning cup of coffee w my CAFFEINE. I have read numerous people who actually never do the decaf while they've become sleeved or bypass (like my sister)! But being a week out, I don't want to start my journey off doing something I know I shouldn't.

4/27--it's about to get real! Day surgery?
LMJSLEEVED replied to LMJSLEEVED's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@ASLEEVE4ME2015 Well, my surgery ended up being around 2:30. Got there at noon and I was leaving around 7 pm. I think I did well, and NOW I know what the pain is like--I just had the hardest time imagining what it would be like since I've had no major surgery since I was yrs old and had my tonsils out. I've been burping like crazy and when I drink liquids, especially plain Water, I have the sensation that I normally would get when I had an empty stomach and drank water- I guess an acidy stomach. So I took pepsid and I think it helped some My stomach seems to flutter or spasm every once in awhile and getting out of bed or bending down like to pick something up from the floor--whew, what a challenge! Walking has been what has relieved the gas the most. This afternoon I've had a low grade fever. Just keeping a watch on it bc I sure don't want it to get up high. Hoping, hoping it just stays low grade or goes away! -

Mom of 5, unsupportive family re my decision
nerkerle replied to Daisydawn34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm going thru a very similar situation. Mom of 3 and married for 10 years. He claims that he will not be attracted to me if my skin starts to sag. I think it's just a BS of an excuse. I've gone back and forth for years and decided that I'm gonna do it for me. You could not be attracted to me next week and leave for all I know. So yes, be selfish and think about you for once. As a fulltime corporate worker, grad student, wife, and mother, I've put everything ahead of my own needs and wants. If you are not happy and complete then everything else crumbles. I'm scheduled 5/6/15 and if he leaves me then goodbye! -

How many of you continue the shakes in your diet after many months after surgery?
Charity P replied to bellabill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 48 days out. *(maybe I should start counting weeks) and I'm recently down from 3 to 1-1.5 a day just to make sure I get in my 75g a day. I like them. They are very convenient and I have to be in class 3 nights a week.... I use GNC Lean 25 pre-made and they are very tasty. Funny, this topic should come up. I just met with my nutritionist this past Saturday and she explained why we should wean off Protein shakes. Basically, we have to learn how to eat enough to get our protein from food so we can keep ourselves feeling full longer. That will help avoid cravings for bad stuff. Protein from shakes is protein received, but in liquid form doesn't help to keep our tiny tummies full. Therefore, we can end up eating bigger portions than we should as time progresses. Our portions will eventually get bigger as the months pass from surgery. Our goal is to eat 3 distinct meals with small Snacks, but if we use fluids instead of meals we leave room for more bad stuff. Also she warned that patients will think "oh I've made my protein quota, I can eat this and this..." and they can bc there is room. Too much protein with bad stuff will cause weight gain. She gave me a scheduled ratio for protein to carbs to ensure continued weight loss. BC if you eat too many carbs (good or bad) with protein you will gain weight back. I don't have to worry about sugar or calories or fat - yet. She said focus on protein and carbs ratio and if you plateau we will examine the food log and see if sugar or calories or fat comes into play. I can't eat that much yet anyway- and still rely on at least 1 shake a day to meet. -

"You'd be much prettier if you lost weight"

I'm not talking about taking offense, I'm talking about not accepting it. That's how change happens. When people told women they could vote because women lacked the intelligence or were too emotional or whatever else BS women rose up and proved them wrong. I refuse to accept unjust treatment as "what it is" ever. Unconscious prejudice is still prejudice. If you want and feel you deserve respect you ave to let people know when they do something that's not okay. In this case, I would definitely have let that person know she was being rude. Otherwise people just go on offending. I just happen to believe that many more will take it as a learning opportunity and correct themselves. -
Hi. I'm Diane. Just joined. Been lurking and reading. Was banded in 2005, lost all my weight, had many plastic surgeries. I'm am in the process of going through insurance to be revised to sleeve. The years of overeating has caused me to have a dilated esophagus with no chance of it going back to normal. I started at 206 5'2 was 135-138 for 10 years by eating and throwing up all day, every day. My own undoing. I'm at 166 right now. My doc office thinks I will be approved for revision. One way or another I have to get my band out. It's been unfilled for 1 1/2 years. I pretty much feel like a failure. I have BC/be fep. Anyone with the same insurance in the same predicament please let me know if you got approved

BLERDgirl replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in Rants & Raves
See I think this is BS and everyone who has experienced it *should* be offended. The fact that you are a larger person has NOTHING to do with your intelligence. Yes I realize it happens but we don't accept prejudice because of the color of someone's skin, or their sexual orientation, why on earth should we accept it because of our weight? -
I am a success...that has failed to continue
Charity P replied to Roo101769's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
We can all relate to this even though we may not be in that stage. We all know the surgery is a tool and one day we will back on our own. I am just beginning how to count Protein and carbs and keep a balance and I know its easy for me right now bc my stomach does stop me from overeating. Maybe try to remember how good you felt eating good, healthy foods. That a moment of eating bad foods really isn't worth what it does to you. Exercise will occupy time and make you feel stronger, but we know that weight loss comes from the food we eat. You will never burn enough calories to lose weight. Let friends and family and activity fill your heart and your cravings and make the choice to feel better! I know whats helped me the most is having my meals planned for work and dinners. That way there are no "choices", just a plan every week waiting to be executed. You've come so far. Bad food isn't worth it. -
Generally you don't want to start you pre-op diet until you know you are having surgery. So you will want to wait for approval. The pre-op diet is to shrink the fat around your liver to make surgery easier so the dr can maneuver easier. And to put your body in ketosis for fat burning and so your stomach is empty on surgery day. So it needs to go right up to surgery day. I have never heard of just one week to do this. My dr wanted 14 pre-op liquid diet. It takes 3-4 days to go into ketosis. You may feel fatigued and "off" in the first few as your body withdrawals from not having what you regularly eat, but when ketosis kicks in you will feel much better! They told me all this before I started and didn't believe them, but it was true. Sure, I wanted things other were eating, but I just avoided temptation bc I wanted to be the best condition I could be on the day of surgery. It can be disappointing bc this time, but its temporary. I am 46 days post op and 40lbs down.

Hi there! Welcome! I'm new here also. I am Charity, 46 days post op. 40lbs lost. I have become an advocate for weight loss surgery, mainly the sleeve. Bypass comes with a few more hassles that sleeve doesn't and sleeve doesn't mess with your intestines. During my EGD (down the throat look before surgery) they found a hernia, though I had not experienced reflux yet. During my sleeve, they just stitched it up. So maybe, if you have something similar it can actually be fixed. My journey, thought only 46 days post, has been uncomplicated and my battles have only been with myself. I hadn't yet developed health concerns and I KNOW this surgery saved me from what was coming. I also knew that I had tried so many things over the last 10 years and nothing ever worked. This journey has taught me so much about myself and my relationship with food, physiology involved, and real physical/chemical challenges that we as morbidly obese face when trying to lose weight. We have some responsibility, for sure, and we know what we've done to get there. But the fixes are even harder to overcome- and torturous. This has been the best thing I've done for myself. But you have to decide if you AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD is ready for the lifestyle change. I am lucky to have the best support at home. The last thing someone going through this needs is the people close to them making it harder! The first couple phases out of surgery can be tough. Wanting the stuff you used to and not being able to eat it. But they are just phases. And with right plan and support you will be eating good food that you can feel good eating bc you know you are giving your body what it needs. I'm still not skinny but I'm 40 lbs down and I feel great, every day. I have energy, I don't get ups and down that sugar and bad carbs can give you, I'm even keeled every day and ready. I miss Taco Bell, I do. And one day I will have something small from there, but I am eating good food that tastes good and I feel great. And every week that goes by and the scale come down a point or two brings me motivation to keep going. I never knew I felt so bad until I felt this good. And that's the truth.

Tummy Tuck (panni + abdominoplasty) approved! But.....
jjinWA replied to livvsmum's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
How did you approach getting your plastic surgery approved? What issues did you document, etc? What ins. do you have. I know this is something I will eventually need and figured Mexico was my only option even though my ins co did approve the sleeve without too much fuss. My ins is Fed Blue Cross Blue /Shield. I need to start building my case for future plastics. -

In California they will do 8 hours n a surgery center under general anesthesia and I don't think it is a law bc in my recent consults the docs have mentioned it as an " I don't do..." Rather than "I can't do..." And two said 8 hours and one said 6. @@jess9395 Interesting! I wondered if it was a law or not because it was an issue on all of my surgeries. My doctor said that they start getting cranky when they go over 6 hours and they don't like to let outpatients leave when surgeries run long. Since they do a lot of reconstruction patients in much longer surgeries, I assumed this rule only applied to those of us who leave the facility the same day. Could be in Florida but not here in Ca. Interestingly!

Lap Band Surgery in Mexico, Revision in U.S.
Want2surf replied to Janex43's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in Mexico in 2007 and I'm having a revision done by Kaiser So Cal on 5/4. I had old X-rays and info about my band but my doctor didn't need any of that. They did a scan so he could see the condition of the band and port sites. He said he takes out bands from other doctors, including those in Mexico all the time. I think it's becoming very common for some of us with the older bands to finally become fed up with the throwing up and problems. -
Hi everyone. I've been around reading but not posting. I'm also not getting any notifications when people post so i usually try to pop in every couple days and see what's going on. I'm still recovering from my accident. I've had some serious depression over this. I still get headaches and dizziness. I am also having memory and concentration issues still. I can't workout like I normally do bc it makes me sick and dizzy and I end up with a migraine. The doctors keep saying it takes time and that I will get better. In the last couple weeks I have had some slight improvement so this is promising to me. I started physical therapy and I am doing a lot of work with my balance and trying to eliminate my dizziness. That's basically what's been going on with me...not much! I'm doing good with my weight but I have lost so much muscle! I hate it but I know it'll come back when I get back to my regular workouts again. I have to watch my food intake a lot closer since I haven't been working out. If I eat junk I can eat a lot of it. If I stick with the basic sleeve diet...dense protein and veggies...my sleeve still works fine.

Girrrlllllll the gas JUST started moving up and man, I keep checking my O2 and doing my spirometer bc it truly feels like there is an elephant on my chest. I don't get it either because just walking around the house is exhausting.
