    Anybody Reschedule Their Date?

Yes. Originally I was scheduled for 7/18/17 but I was moving that next week and since you can’t lift more than 5lbs I needed to be rescheduled. Was revised on 8/8/17. Easy peasy.
  2. Not leaving the remnant stomach is an option (that is what is done when the surgery is for something like gastric cancer - you don't want it lying around in there, lol) but there are trade offs as usual. The main one that I can think of is that the stomach is no longer there producing acid to neutralize the bile being secreted just downstream of it, so there may be greater chances of bile reflux. AFAIK, there are ways to minimize that when the surgery is done, but these are things to discuss with the surgeon as to how best handle your individual problems. If I had revised my VSG ro an RNY a few years ago, that is how it would have been done - no remnant stomach.

My advice is to figure out why/how you became overweight. You need to know the root cause before you can conjure up a permanent solution. Here's a hint...food is never really the root cause of our weight problems. Some people are emotional overeaters who use food to cope in times of stress, boredom, joy, pain and uncertainty. Others are garden variety eaters whose social lives revolve around overeating. Some people became obese due to hardcore food addictions and others have psychological diagnoses such as binge eating disorder. Finally, some people overeat to soothe past trauma they experienced or witnessed such as sexual abuse or violence. Some people will swear up and down they never eat too much, exercise regularly, and still became obese. Nonetheless, obesity due to medical issues only occurs in less than 5% of cases. In my personal experience, the people in profound denial who lack insight and are unwilling to practice introspection (e.g., "I got up to 300 pounds eating 1200 calories a day!") are often the same ones who seek their third or fourth revision surgery due to each previous procedure "not working." In other words, be honest with yourself. I ate too much for physical reasons because insulin resistance kept me chronically hungry. Also, I experienced childhood traumas such as domestic violence and drug addiction, and food soothed me when those ugly memories resurfaced. So I attended a few counseling sessions as I reached my goal weight. Good luck to you.
  4. There is no reason other than complications why a revision should be done in 2 surgeries... or take that long. My Band to RNY took 6+ hours, because the band was fully encapsulated and took my surgeon over 3 times longer to remove it. That said, I didn't know I was under for 6+ hours. Sounds like they are either being lazy or trying to soak you for more money.
  5. I cannot wait till I am 4 days from surgery. I will find out on 25 October when I will have a sleeve revision. Good luck and keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

    HI

I would check the forums for the many people who say they have gone for a revision from the band, my cousin had the band for ten years and then had to be revised, she had lost 100+ lbs but the band broke. I think you will find many different stories here about problem with the band and needing revisions. .. I don't have a problem with the band, and it is a good choice for a lot of people. I didn't like the idea of a mechanism in my body, constant upkeep for fills, etc. The sleeve feels right to me after all of my research. ..
  7. Hi everyone - my first post here! I was going to have revision surgery on my band (insurance had approved the revision), but decided that the sleeve was a better move for me for a ton of reasons. So i'm meeting with surgeon, anesthesiologist, PCP, nutritionist and psychologist on Jan. 17 to get all of the needed paperwork started and into my surgeons office so the insurance stuff can begin. My first question is related to scar tissue when removing the band. I've had the band for about 5 years (was successful, but it slipped, so it's now useless) and i'm concerned about the damage when puling the band off. Any experience and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Andre
  8. Unfortunately you will not find a plan that will cover it in Texas thru the affordable care act (obama care) I have done lots of research on this specifically because here in Florida its also excluded... These are the states where its covered. Your option would be to move to one of these states temporarily, Establish residency, get healthcare, get your surgery and leave. If you notice most southern states are excluded because people in southern states tend to be overweight when compared to northern states. (according to multiple articles i read about bariatric surgery. This is my backup if i end up needing a revision is to move. South Dakota seems to be the easiest from the research i did.
  9. I'm 3 1/2 yrs post lapband. No soda is allowed with the lapband because it can cause band erosion or slippage. I occasionally will have a sip of hubbys soda if we're out to eat, but basically don't drink it anymore. My band is slipped now (thanks to my frequent vomiting) and I'm revising to a sleeve soon. From what I've been reading, they say no to soda because of discomfort. banders are sposed to have discomfort with soda too, but I have none. So is it medically ok to drink soda but it's up to the individual on whether it causes pain - or is it across the board a no-no? Just curious....

    tattoos

I was thinking of getting one after I reach my goal and get a tummy tuck. My port incision is about 2 inches above and an inch to the left of where my port actually is so any revisions won't matter. And if for some reason they move the port somewhere else completely, the tattoo will still have sentimental value. I was thinking about getting "Fill Here. Saliene Only" like it says "unleaded only" under the gas cap. I think it would be a fun conversation starter when I'm skinny enough to wear a bikini! If anyone has a port tattoo, post up pics!! 11. After the "Weight Loss" stage you pass into the "Maintenance" stage. In this stage, the goals and rules change slightly. I have put together a short article on the second stage that may be of some help. It is available here http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf Also I may revise this webpage in the next few weeks that will even give some more ideas. So you might check back on the link.
  12. I had lap band in 2009, it slipped in 2017, and I had it revised to bypass December 2020. I lost 16 pounds in two weeks then nothing for over a month. I worry that our bodies already got used to the lower calorie intake from when we were banded. I also think that is why I gained so much when my band slipped because I was eating “normal” amounts of food, but my body had been set at band amounts for a decade! I’ve finally started losing slowly again in the last week. I too got discouraged reading people’s posts about their significant and quick weight loss, I was starting to feel like a failure. But we each have our own journey and I wish you all the best on yours.
  13. Me. I can relate to slow weight loss with the sleeve and for many of the same reasons you've stated. I had a lap band in 2005. Did great, but was miserable and later found out that my band had slipped. I had it taken out in 2009 and did pretty well maintaining my weight until I had some major life changes and did some stress eating. Gained all of my weight back over the course of 2 years. Had a sleeve done in 2018 and my weight loss was slow but steady. I'm still not at goal, but I'm happy and feeling good. COVID lockdown has totally stalled me and maybe added a few, but my tool is still there and when I'm ready, I'm confident I'll get back on track. Stay the course. Follow your plan. It will work. (side note: it is my understanding that revisions typically lose slow. Something to do with the impact on our metabolism. Sort of a "been there-done that" mentality.) Good luck!
  14. I am a revised Bandster. I had my surgery Dec 2010 and my revision May 2011. I'm back to the beginning with fills and that whole process. It's daunting and frustrating. I wish you the best. I was lucky that I only lost weight because of the slip (which doesn't count as real weightloss for me) so I'm maintaining at the weight I was before the slip. I have 20 lbs to go. 10 lbs will get me to a normal bmi.
  15. well when ur band is revised tht normally means tht they are going to replace it or stich it up tighter around ur stomache so tht it wnt slip again... or did he mean to take out all of the fluid in the band to let ur stomache heal bc when u are too tight n keep throwing up it can cause severe damage and they will try to give u a break. did ur dotor ever say tht ur band slipped?
  16. How do they revise it? I was banned on 11/4/09. I have had problems with being too tight and not being able to eat anything. It has been like that for months now, up and down, that he wants to take the band completely out. He said that he doesn’t know why I keep getting like that and the best thing to do it take it out give my body a few months to heal and then talk about putting it back in. I have lost 50 pounds and am SO scared that the weight will come back on. Anyone else have to have theirs removed completely?

    2 days post op

I had band to sleeve revision Tues, Mar 1st. I've felt pretty good too, just some minor discomfort. In just 4 days, I'm down 7 pounds, and finally had the elusive BM after taking 3 tbl of milk of magnesia last night. Good luck!
  19. If your gonna do it go with gastric bypass. You lose more weight & have more restrictions on your body. Plus you don't have to revise it like many other ppl.
  20. I had a 2nd slip last year and the doc did a revision (first time it slipped I had a doc who didn't believe they worked even though I had lost 72 lbs in 7 months -I started at 237- so he simply emptied it without doing any imaging to see how bad it was. I agree that it isn't the same. Doesn't mean it won't work if I go back to basics. I too have gained half of it back. Saw these posts and decided it was time to start logging food and exercise. Keeps me honest because I weigh, measure and put it in writing. Good luck to you. You aren't doing this walk alone.
  21. So I have a bit of a complex issue. I had the Lapband put in 2009 and had great success. In 2015 I developed an antibiotic resistant port infection and had to have my band removed. I’m trying to get approved for the gastric sleeve but my insurance has denied saying I’m only allowed one surgery per lifetime. Has anyone ever successfully got them to approve it with peer to peer review. Trying to arm myself with as much info as possible.

    RE-SLEEVE

Yes I read about someone who had her stomach imaged and it was an improper VSG. Her doctor offered to redo the surgery for her after she sent her a picture of the image. She decided after her husband used Dr. Aceves to use him for the revision instead of the initial surgeon. So I would guess getting the stomach imaged to see if the shape is proper or if it indeed was made incorrectly would be the first step and also it would give another doctor an idea of the ability to have it revised or not.

    To MX Alone

I will be having surgery here bc insurance will cover most of it. I will be going to MX for skin removal as it won't be covered. MX can be great option! My surgeon spoke about doing revisions bc the previous surgeon didn't remove enough so I would definately ask that question to whoever you go to. Good luck with your journey!
  24. I am exactly 2 months postop today from my band to sleeve revision. I am down 42 lbs and am at my lowest weight in years...lower than I ever got w/that band I feel great and can't wait for another 2 months to pass!!! For anyone considering revising from that band, I can't say loud enough.. THE SLEEVE IS SO MUCH BETTER!!! Erika
  25. Hi, I had my band for three and a half years. I had the band to sleeve revision in one surgery, which went well. Ask your doctor how many leak tests s/he does. The disgusting swallow on Day 2 was one of mine (and it also took a while for that to go through my sleeve because of swelling). My surgeon did a leak test with blue dye during the surgery as well. Different doctors seem to have different theories and practices about leak tests. Good luck and best wishes for your surgery and a quick, uneventful recovery!
