    Post op problems

Isopure has Clear liquids that contain a fair amount of Protein. Also, my surgeon told me from day 1 it was a good idea to walk at least 1/2 hour per day. Folks on this site could help her better if the correct stats were put on her profile.
  2. Hello all. my name is morgan (obviously). I'm 29 years old. Diabetic, PCOS, high blood pressure.. Everything fun of course. I have Kaiser and did the 12weeks Options class over the summer and ended at the end of September. Last Tuesday, October 28th I had my consult appt with my surgeon, and he surprisingly had a cancellation and was able to fit me in on November 4th. Talk about nerveracking . soo quick. I started at 256 at the beginning of my options classes, did Protein shakes for a week to drop weight and ended up being 242 by the end of the classes. I made my appt for last Tuesday on the previous Friday and wanted to make sure I was still 242 a because if he saw in gained weight, I'm sure he wouldn't have been okay with soing the surgery. I ends up being exactly 242 on my consult say, and then 239/240 on my surgery day. I went into the hospital at 8:30, surgery WS at 10:40am and I was in recovery by 12. I was so out of it I slept most of the day/night. I stopped taking any morphine because it made me so drowsy by 5. I barely used any which everyone was impressed with. I toughened it out for sure. I woke up at 4 this morning and decided to walk around like they want you to do. Did a few laps around the floor then rested a bit until my mom got there. Did some more laps. My doctor came and checked on me at around 830/9 and said I looked fantastic but he didn't want to send me home with my blood sugars so high. They were @ 188 when I came in, 330 (the highest it has ever been) at 10pm on Tuesday night then 303 at 130 am on Wednesday, after they pumped me full of insulin to lower. The surgeon then decided the only way I'd be able to leave was to get my sugars down, they then changed my IV to saline (the one had glucose in it), by noon it was 165 and by 1 the Dr came in and was pleased and had me discharged. All in all, my blood sugar gone down as well as my blood pressure, its in the normal zone. It boggles my mind. Ice tried so hard using diet exercise and medication and still no real change. I'm so happy I went through with this. I never realized how much I use my stomach muscles though. I'm in a bit of pain. Getting in and out of bed is no pleasant time, same with coughing (due to the tube down my throat) or even laughing. Tmi. But i have been super gassy since the surgery and am wondering if thats where most of my pain and discomfort is coming from. But I'm happy though I was only at the hospital for a little over 24 hrs, esp when I thought I'd at least be sleeping there for another day at least. My mom had lapband then removed it, waited a year and got the sleeve. She told me not to be surprised about gaining weight while in the hospital due to all the liquids and what not. Luckily, as soon as I got home, I peed and then weighed myself. Super surprised that I still weigh 239. So here is to my new journey, of hopefully no longer being diabetic, having hypertension, no longer having PCOS, hopefully being able to have children! And living a much longer and fulfilling life. Good luck to everyone that is starting this journey and people that continue on. Morgan

    Gastric Sleeve

TY Alfie. I thought of cancelling minutely and just sort of let the Universe guide. I just can't believe how good I'm doing. But, you suddenly realize you just had surgery 3.5 weeks ago and need to take it easy. I can honestly tell you that it's the best decision you ever made. My clothes used to be so tight. Now, they r comfortable and loose. Keep me posted as we have connected and I want to know how you're doing. Nice to meet you. The most important thing is that you eat enough Protein. Never ever thought about it before. You will be Enlightened by this experience.

    Ok hope this helps!

I have never had issues going.... Except right after the liquid diet phase post surgery I started going infrequently, which as a person who went 1-2X/day it was freaking me out even though I was told it would happen. However, I'm now back to being regular...although a new regular...every 1-2 days and they are healthy. I make sure that I get a min 64 ounces of water. On the few occasions that I have missed my water intake I've regretted it. It makes me so constipated!!! I also get fiber in my food. I have not cut out fruits and veggies. I also drink a green smoothie made in a bullet 1-3X/ week which keeps all the fiber in. I also use some low carb bread products like healthy life bread and tumaro's tortillas, which have a lot of fiber. I also like the Kellogg's fiber/protein bars sometimes I eat one a day, but not always. I don't know if they make it anymore, but at some point I bought 3 boxes of individual packets of Splenda with fiber in them. So whenever I need a sugar substitute I add those. I take them with me everywhere just in case. I also exercise 5-6 days a week and that also will help keep you regular.
  5. @ Hi! I am on my last day of liquids today (surgery in the am) I don't know what your surgeons requirements are for liquids but I had broth, My tip for that would be check out the Swanson broths they have a bunch of different flavors that I wasn't aware of until this like Thai ginger, Mexican, hot n sour ect...they really helped I also added a little bit of plain chicken broth to them because they can be a little strong, spicy. I used the premier protein ready made shakes in chocolate, strawberry,& vanilla. I really like them. I was allowed sugar free jello(I think Kool-aid brand is my favorite) also sugar free Popsicles I couldn't find any I could stand so I got molds and made my own out of the syntrax fuzzy naval protein mix. You can also use whatever protein drink you will be having. I was also allowed a couple pickles a day but I never did use them. Just make sure you don't go to long without a shake . Try to not watch food commercial or mute the tv if that bothers you....it does me. I didn't find it hard at all and I never cheated. Good luck to you! Just keep your eye on the prize! It will be over before you know it

    I'm terrified

You'll do great - my surgery was 8 days ago...I only had someone with me for one night and have been alone all week. You'll be truly amazed that it takes up your entire day taking all your meds, vitamins and trying to get in all your protein. I still cannot get all the protein I'm supposed to have. I just still feel too full. I'm making sure to walk at least 5000 steps each day. By the way, I'm 73 so if I can do it I'm sure you will both do great. God Bless You! You've finally made the decision to make your own health 1st priority!

    Rny on Tuesday November 4th

@@MBM1Forever I live in southern California. Did the 12 weeks options class, called then right after n was like I'm done with everything! Had to lose weight, bring my blood sugar down under 8, and lower my blood pressure. Then they referred me, my consult was going to be November 28 unless there was a cancellation, the surgery ppl called me at the end of the day the Friday before my consult and said there was a cancellation, so my consult was on oct. 28..then the Dr told me there was a cancellation in his books n November 4th was it. It came so fast! I think it was meant to be, because if it wasn't that, then it would have been in December.
  8. So I have been told that I have to have surgery prior to getting another surgery. I have never considered WLS in the past because I have always been able to keep my weight down with diet and exercise.....until I had a colon resection that I have yet to heal from. The last year has been a painful reminder that I am getting older and unable to recover like I used to. Because of my colon resection, I am unable to get the bypass surgery so my only option is the sleeve. I hope that it will be enough of a tool to help me lose this weight so I can get my second surgery done and on with my life. I have a four month wait period because my insurance still says that this is an elective regardless of the fact that my doctors (I have seen 4 different doctors and have been told the same thing) say that it is medically necessary. Next week I go in for my psych examine and to finally see my nutritionist, as well as have a ton of blood work done, a chest x-ray and something to do with my heart. I have tried to look at this as a plus, as it will help me lose some weight that I have been unable to lose as I have grown older. But at the same time, it is an extreme response to a problem that was created by another problem. I am not given any other options so I have no choice but to accept the diagnosis and move on. If anybody has any insight, I would appreciate it.
  9. Hi Everyone My name is Sarah. I had my surgery on Thursday 1/22.. I'm 24 years old.. My preop weight was 240 and my surgery weight was 224 (2 week optifast liquid diet) & my current weight is 218! I've been reading everyone's experiences and I feel like I've had a pretty decent recovery so far, I haven't had to use pain meds at all, just a sleep aid (zquil). I have 5 incisions and only one really bothers me where there is a dent that I'm told will go away with time. It's pretty sore and hurts when I move and bend down but I guess it's better than having all of them hurt. I have the normal gas pain in my shoulders and back but every day it gets better, it kinda hurts when I breathe which is annoying. I haven't got much sleep but I'm grateful for the minimal pain. My big problem is it really hurts when I drink anything so I'm having a lot of trouble meeting my water and protein goals. Every sip I take feels like bricks. When does it get easier? When does that stop? All I want to do is drink a glass of water, I am SO thirsty & noticing that I'm pretty weak. Also, does anyone have any other suggestions in meeting protein goals besides the dreadful shakes? Is there any high protein soups out there? I'm feeling so frustrated today, I just want to feel normal again. I know it's still early & I need to be patient but I can't help but read people saying they can swallow normally after a few days & I'm still having so much trouble Thanks for any advice you can give me S

Day 6 of my Liquid Diet

I know that it helped me having a doctor direct me. Suddenly my diet became a medical issue for the first time. I stuck pretty strictly to the liver shrinking diet but after surgery the doc told me my liver was still pretty huge... :/ Anyway it was not a problem and he said some people just have big livers! The hardest part was the post surgical liquid diet. UGH! I could not stop watching food TV and looking at recipes for high Protein meals, waiting for my chance to eat meat again. Funnily enough, when I started eating "real food" nothing really satisfied like before, and I lost my cravings. I am 5 weeks post surgery and have decided not to have a fill yet. I am losing at a nice pace and am very careful about what I eat. Have had many instances of that "too full" feeling and want to avoid it. Food and that "full feeling" just doesn't offer the same comfort anymore. I am looking at other ways to get those endorphins going.
  11. My suggestion would be to follow the plan. You don't want to risk your liver not being prepared properly for surgery. The primary reason they have you follow the liquid diet is to ensure your liver shrinks and they can execute a laparoscopic procedure. If they cannot maneuver around the liver, they may have to do an open procedure which can result in more complications and longer recovery. As hard as the liquid protein diet is, it is better for you in the end. You are so close, don't self sabotage yourself. Good luck and keep us posted!

    Have had the gastric sleeve

I bet that is really hard, losing a loved is never easy to over come. WHat are you eating now? What do you like that you know is good high protein ? Let's make a shopping list!

    Protein Shakes

You don't have to drink the protein shakes or do protein shots so long as you are getting your required amount of protein in which can be done with foods.

    Question...

I use GNC unflavored whey protein and mix with Diet Lipton tea (mango/pineapple) and ice. I drink this at night alot, it helps curb my sweet tooth.
  15. Hello! I have a question? I am on puréed proteins for a week. I had my surgery on March 3rd. When I eat I am never getting that really full feeling like I thought I would get. I just get a tightness feeling right in the middle of my cheat when I am done with food. Does that mean you are full? Thanks everyone!

    New feelings

You are still healing, so the pain is normal. The noises are normal as well, things should settle down once you are good and healed. Side note, take a moment to go in and update your stats/surgery, you are still showing up as a lap-band patient. You'll have to log into the site on a computer as the phone apps still don't have the options to make those changes.

    6 days post op-newbie

I've bought EAS at costco. I'm a chocoholic, but actually like the Premier Protein vanilla better than the chocolate (also at Costco). You can add sugar free torani syrups to them to adjust the flavor, too. 160 calories, 40g protein and less than 1g of sugar.
  19. Mine was very similar! Five shakes a day and a meal at the end consisting of a small amount of protein along with very select vegetables. Is yours for two weeks? One week? Mine was for a month! It can be very hard to get through, but you just have to push through it! The first week or so I was very tired, no energy at all, and just laid on the couch a lot (outside of a bit of exercise.) It got better after that though. Try to get in your liquids, as they do help a bit at least (and a lot for some) when it comes to hunger. As for my surgery, it went very well! The first few weeks were no real issues, outside of normal post-surgery stuff, though now I am dealing with a lot of nausea and general sick feelings. I think it may be attributed to my vitamin pill, or at least that may be part of it. Thank you for asking though! Despite my frustrations and the nausea, I am still glad I went through with the surgery. It's been great to watch the scale go down, down, down!

    Protein Shakes

I think I heard protein pills have very little protein in then so you'd have to take a ton of them. I'm sure you can find info if you Google it.
  21. Make sure you are drinking high Protein low carb shakes and that you are taking in enough. Make sure that you are drinking enough Water too.
  22. I'm having surgery day after tomorrow, and my doc didn't require a pre-op diet, but I figured I would do it on my own today and tomorrow, just to wrap my brain around it all. I'm doing only Protein shakes/drinks today, and I feel SO dizzy and just generally crappy. What am I doing wrong? Will I feel this bad after surgery until I can eat real food again? I'm second guessing my decision and it's only been like, 5 hours! Tell me I'm just being a dork...

    My Cash Pay Journey

Can I have some suggestions on post op protein shakes? I know I have to start out with clear liquids so my question is can I drink the unjury shakes or should I stick with the isopure ones?
  24. I am 3 months post op and I have lost 53 Lbs. last week I had emergency gallbladder surgery! Since the removal of my gallbladder, I cannot tolerate any food. Without too much Information, it doesn't stay in my system long at all. Carbohydrates are the safest thing at the moment. High protein/high fats are very destructive to my system at the moment. Any advice/suggestions to make it through this period? I'm hoping my body will adjust- but I struggling to make my protein goal at the moment!
  25. I've been dizzy off and on. On my pre-surgery diet I can have unlimited salad veggies and 4 oz of Protein per day. When I was dizzy, I either needed to eat or I needed Water.
