  1. Oppo squash soup with green papaya, onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and more. (95 cal). I make different versions every week. Different veggies every week. I eat this throughout the day to get my veggies in and stay hydrated. The protein I had was an air fried small tilapia which I ate first. I ate half of it (112 cal). My cat ate the rest.

    I had my surgery in the pandemic. It should have been a 4 month wait but ended up being 8. It broke me at times but the information I gained while waiting and reading back pages of this forum really set me up for success. I knew exactly what to expect. In the New year the time will fly for you. You will be so busy getting your house ready [ nesting] and then doing your pre-op diet. I made broths for the freezer and bought a mixture of foods for the early days like instant porridge and a variety of protein yogurts etc. Being older and disabled at the time I didnt have much energy while recovering so was really glad of this prep work.
  3. I did not fully track my macros till I hit my soft foods stage. Before that I just made sure my protein was 60-70g like you mentioned, didn't worry much about everything else. Now that I'm in the 'early transition to solids' stage, I track them all completely as I can now include veggies & a few fruits. This is what my macros usually look like now (ignore the 'goal' percentage those are the default numbers the app placed)

    October 2022 surgery support

    Had my surgery on 10/24. The first week and a half I was steady losing a pound or two a day. For the last 10 days however my weight has gone up and down by the same 1-2 pounds so I guess I’ve hit the dreaded stall that people experience around the 2-3 week mark. I’m down 13 pounds since my surgery date and 24 pounds since starting the pre op diet. I have noticed my pants have gotten baggier and my face is thinner. I started at 215 pounds with a BMI of 34 so I expected my results to be slower since I was on the “lower” size for this surgery. It’s crazy how everyone’s diets are different with each doctor. As of this week I’m allowed most foods with the exception of beef, pork, rice, Pasta, bread, raw vegetables and nuts. I am mostly eating small amounts of chicken, tuna, eggs, refried Beans, cottage cheese and some fruits. My doctor has told me to prioritize Protein and aim for 60 grams a day. I have to drink 1-2 Protein Shakes to accomplish this as my portions are not big enough to get that from food yet. I was also told no straws which is also seems to vary by doctor. I feel like I’m doing ok mostly. I have been struggling mostly with just getting my fluids in. I am supposed to drink 64 ounces a day of which 20 is plain Water. Because I can only take sips and not drink 30 minutes before or after I eat it can be challenging. It takes me a couple hours usually to drink one cup of water. So that’s my biggest hurdle right now. I’m trying to be better with it and track. Any tips? Otherwise I’m looking forward to breaking through this plateau and seeing more progress. Hopefully in the coming weeks the scale will move again. I’m trying not to obsess over it but 20+ years of yo-yo dieting has given a lot of power to that damn thing 😡
  5. It’s another one of those things where different surgeons & dieticians have different plans & requirements. I wasn’t given macros either apart from protein. Just portion advice (1/4 - 1/3 of a cup), a list of approved foods & advised to keep my fats, sugar & carbs low. I wasn’t even advised to track my food. I randomly did that for my own interest. There’s nothing wrong with asking for more guidance like wanting macro goals if you’ll feel more confident & comfortable with having them. You have to do what you need to have the greatest success.
  6. I only care about my protein and the amount of water that I'm getting, right now. I've started eating more now - I'm up to 1/2 a cup and I'm really only drinking 1 protein shake per day. But, I am tracking, just to make sure that I get enough protein every day. I'm hitting the goal, no problem. I'm thinking I might do the Portion Fix program, once I'm on solid food and can eat more. I did it before surgery and I really thought it was a great program. It was very clean eating and felt healthy. I couldn't stick with it because I was STARVING all the time - but that was just my hormonal imbalance. Now that I don't have to worry about that anymore, I think it will be a good plan.

    I dropped 50+ lbs pre-surgery by cutting out all foods containing sugar, flour, white potatoes, rice, and processed foods. These are my trigger foods. I consider myself to be a sugar/food addict. I can never go back to eating these things with abandon. I started using the Baritastic app. I occasionally used liquid protein shakes during that period. My calorie count dropped to around 1000 per day. I attended water exercise classes three days a week, including swimming 1/4 mile each time. I also increased my mileage on my walking tricycle to at least a mile a day. I've lost another 50+ lbs since my RNY>RNY revision surgery. I still strive to avoid my trigger foods. It's harder to resist now and weight loss is slow going, but I'm still dropping a few pounds a month with lengthy stalls.
  8. I am absolutely the same. I was too scared to even try anything during the liquid phase but when I got to pureed phase I tried chicken noodle soup at an outing with no way to puree. I was able to keep it down. I have had no trouble with eating anything. I am only 5 weeks out and still not eating anything too heavy, too hard, or sugary at all but I was absolutely convinced the doc forgot to actually remove the stomach. Had it not been for the decrease in appetite and the filling full quickly I would have argued him on it, lol. I am able to drink water like normal. If I drink protein shakes too quickly, like I often do when at work, I find I get just slightly nauseous, but it passes in like 15 minutes. I have hit a MAJOR weight loss stall though. I fear this may be part of the reason, I have done too much too fast. That being said, all the research I have done says you cannot stretch your stomach this soon after surgery and a weight loss stall early on is not uncommon. For now, I plan to keep doing what feels right and see how it goes! Thank you for your honest post, I was scared to admit I was moving faster along than prescribed!!
  9. Ooh yeah lol, as far as macros, the only macro I pay attention to unless I need to analyze my diet is my protein. So although I track everything (it is fun for me). The basic goals I was given, and I find it works wonderful for me long-term is the following: Stay hydrated, protein 55g and above, 7 to 13 fruit and veggies servings a day to decrease inflammation & let leptin do it's magic, eat good fat, and good complex carbohydrates (oatmeal, healthy breads especially sourdough, beans... Etc).
  10. I had surgery on 10/17 (Saturday) and went back to work 10/24 (Monday). I had no pain or issues working but keeping up with water and protein intake has been as struggle. I also struggle with remembering to get up from my desk and take a walk. However, I am now almost five weeks out and am still having the same issues. I think, with a desk job, going back in one week or a month is not much different. No matter when you go back the fluid intake and movement are going to be an issue. I have yet to figure out a real solution. I have become much better about the protein and doing okay with water. The process of getting the steps/movement in is so HARD! Even with walking 30 min on lunch and 30 min after work I am nowhere near my desired step count. If anyone has a long-term solution to the "desk job" problem PLEASE SHARE!
  11. I have always been a saltaholic, but after surgery most things tasted too salty to me. I also couldn't stand the taste of any of the protein shakes because they were all too sweet. I'm over 2 years out now and all of that is better, but I have noticed that I really don't care that much for cheese now, which I have always LOVED.     macros during post op diet

    I track, but I only track to ensure I hit my protein. I had surgery to break the cycle of dieting, and counting calories and carbs and all that just perpetuates the cycle. I would suggest before you start, have a conversation with your team. Its very likely that they didn't give you macros because they don't want you tracking and obsession over them. Protein is really your only hard and fast "goal" and the rest is far less important, especially this early out.
  13. greetings, currently transitioning from full liquids to purées (woo hoo) and I am starting to track again (instead of just ounces of liquid). My diet guidelines tell me what and general amounts for purée and beyond but no specifics for macros like calories, carbs and the like (there is a protein macro of 60-70 g) those of you tracking, what did you do for purée, soft and beyond ?

    When can you "try" steak?

    All I want is a juicy INCREDIBLY RARE steak… I’m drooling thinking of it!! I’m so protein deficient. I Can’t hardly keep more than a couple ounces of a shake down. I gag and end up sick 😔 I am 4 weeks post op as of today and still can’t handle anything but liquid or purée texture. I was told to try eggs… I did twice and both times sick as a dog. I have tolerated chicken only if it’s a TINY speck in a soup… I’m beginning to feel like I will never be able to eat again.

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

    I have so much sugar free jello its crazy! I had a rough day yesterday it was day three and i was starving.Thank goodness today i am back to feeling really full with the protein shakes. You are doing amazing!! It helps to have support and I will be right there with you. Thank you for responding. I haven't started to get anxious yet but I still have 11 days until my surgery so it will probably hit me next week. I think staying busy is best too. I am jumping on here and reading a lot of posts to keep me focused on the goal.

    You're doing great! As long as you're meeting your protein and hydration goals and sticking to the plan, all you can do is be patient. The weight will come off, eventually, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Hang in there!
  17. I had the sleeve on Nov 7th. Is it normal to have cravings? I still find myself grabbing for things (healthy and not healthy) just to realize nope I can't eat food right now. Of course, I am following my docs instructions and have only had protein shakes, water, Popsicles, and diluted "cream of" soups.     October 2022 surgery support

    I'm 4 weeks and 2 days post op. I'm down 18 pounds since surgery. My clothes are also looser and I really love it, too. My weight loss was happening really fast, in the first couple of weeks and it was kind of scaring me. Thankfully, it has slowed down. I start soft foods, today. So far, I haven't had any problems with getting in enough protein and water. My hunger is really starting to return. So I've had to start eating food more often. I was eating 3 times a day, now I'm up to 5. I've cut down my use of protein shakes to 1 or 2 per day. I was drinking 3, before. I'm typically getting anywhere from 600-900 calories per day. I was cleared for exercise, so I've been doing slow walks on my elliptical - 15 minutes a day and keeping it under 7 miles per hour. I'm trying real hard not to overdo it. My incisions are healing. I have one that was bigger than the others and it's being a little slow to close up. I still have some bruising. I'm still fairly sore. But, if I sneeze now, I don't feel like I'm going to die. So that's progress.

  20. Hello everyone. I’m new here and wanted to introduce myself. I found this forum a few days ago and have enjoyed reading the posts. I am a 40 year old female and had my surgery on 10/24. My starting weight when I first started the pre op liquid diet was 215. I was 204 the day of my surgery. I’m just a bit over the 3 week mark and I’m down to 191. The past week or so the scale hasn’t moved much. I was a bit confused at first since I know I’m not consuming more than 5-600 calories a day but then I started reading about the stalls in the week 2-3 range and realized it’s normal as my body needs time to heal and get my water level back up. So I’m trying not to stress over the scale. It’s crazy because in my diet days I would have been thrilled at a 13 pound loss in 3 weeks, but after surgery I’m like “is that all?!” But I’m trusting the process. I also know that I’m starting out at a lower BMI then most people that have this surgery so I’m probably not going to have these massive losses. The surgery itself was pretty smooth. I work nights so I got off work at 5am, took a quick shower and went to the hospital at 6:30am to start the procedure. Needless to say after surgery I slept for most the day lol. I was a bit sore and nauseous when I woke up but they were good about giving me meds. By the second day I didn’t have as much pain but the nausea was still there. The most annoying part was I had to pee every hour thanks to all the fluids they pumped through my IV. So I constantly had to call for a nurse to unhook me and help me up and into the bathroom. The only other hard part was my vision. No one warned me that a side effect of the nausea patch they put behind my ear effects your vision. It kind of freaked me out because I couldn’t read my cell phone screen at all. It was just a big blur. I finally asked the nurse and she explained the issue. Before I left the hospital I asked them to remove the patch. It took another 2 days before my vision was fully restored. So that was a challenge. Not only could I not read my phone but I couldn’t read the prescription bottles either. Had to rely on my family to tell me which pills were which and when to take them. Otherwise the experience wasn’t terrible. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty good. The weird gurgling every time I eat is a bit annoying. It doesn’t hurt exactly but it’s still not comfortable. At first I thought maybe I was eating too fast, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’ve learned through this forum that it’s pretty common. What else….. oh vitamins! The chewable ones were gross so I switched to the chewy ones. They’re not terrible but not great either. I’m looking forward to when I can just switch to capsule vitamins. I have officially dropped a pants size so that’s nice. I have a range of clothes from size 16-10 from all my yo yo dieting phases so I at least have options while I’m losing. Today I’m in the 14s and packed up my 16s to donate. If I get smaller than the 10s I’ll be planning a shopping trip. I really enjoy this forum. The only people that know I had the surgery was my wife and my best friend. I didn’t tell the rest of my family or coworkers. So having a safe place to talk about my experience and compare stories has been nice.

    Celebrate you today!

    I am amazed that i made it to day three of the pre op. I gave away most of the food in the house but today i saw some salami, cheese and ham i missed. I thriew it away really fast adn poured some water on it. This may seem small and silly but it made my day. I don't why today i have felt really hungry, i still have two protein shakes to go though and can broth. I have drank a ton of water. I am hoping this is the worst of the hunger days because day one and two i wasn't hungry at all.

    October 2022 surgery support

    Just checking in with everyone. I had my two week post op checkup today and I'm down 10 lbs since surgery date and 30 lbs since starting the journey last summer. My pants are getting baggy and I love it! I'm on the pureed diet which has been going pretty well. It's hard to fit enough protein and liquid in each day but I'm trying! How is everyone else from October doing?

    Extreme fatigue at 4 weeks post-op

    I am also 4 weeks post op. Everything hurts. I’m always exhausted and sore. I can’t hardly swallow without pain. I know I’m not getting any where near the protein I should. The shakes make me sick. I have tried fair life and carnation high protein… they all upset my stomach. I am probably low on water too, maybe 36-42 Oz water. My vitamins cause nausea. This whole thing is a mess. When do I feel normal again?
  24. My post-op programme didn't limit anything - no calorie goals, no protein goals, no fluid goals even! I learnt all that by being on this forum. I was told just eat as you feel. Seems just basic common bariatric sense to me now to get my protein in first, veg second, fruit third and then other carbs after that. Even now at almost exactly a year out I don't reach 50g carbs or anything like it most days. Other than weekends, when I *choose* to drink some alcohol. So many ways to skin a rabbit, LOL.

    Dealing with Sabotage

    Oh my god, I am so sorry. What a horrible situation to be put in in such a vulnerable time of your life. She sounds evil for trying to enable you & destroy your hard work like this. I wish there was something that could be done to bring you peace but the fact that there's no options for her to move out is horrible AND PLEASE if you need to rant here more, lay it all out. Please let this be a positive outlet for you during such a crucial time.
