Just got banded this morning, and I'm now relaxing in my hospital room. Just want to share my experience today: 6AM A Skin test was done to check if I have allergic reactions to the meds I will be given. Man, this one hurt! 7AM I was given a muscle relaxant, after which they brought me to the operating room. 8AM I was put to sleep by my anesthesiologist. The effect was quite fast. 11AM Woke up at the recovery room, with a bloated feeling in my belly. It's like it's full of gas. I think they really had to put gas inside to make the surgery easier. The incisions didn't hurt at all. I also realized that they used compression stockings on my legs. I was told that they did the operation in a semi-seated position, so they had to put the compression stockings to prevent my blood from all going to my legs. The stockings hurt a lot, but they removed it as soon I woke up. I was also told by my anesthesiologist that the operation only took 45 mins, which was really fast. 12PM I was brought back to the hospital room, and slept for another 3 hours. 3PM Started walking around the room. I was light-headed for a few minutes, but the walking really helped alleviate the bloated belly feeling. I even was able to burp and pass gas while walking. 7PM The tummy aches are almost gone. But now I feel hungry and really thirsty. No intake allowed yet, so I just used a moist towel for my dried lips. All in all, the pain was really much tolerable that what I expected. I'll be discharged from the hospital tomorrow morning. I will also start my liquid diet tomorrow. Can't wait for that first sip of water. I feel reallly dry now. But one thing is for sure, I AM NOW A BANDSTER!

Dr. JLo- First of all, I admire your work that I have seen on Big Medicine. I am such a fan! I have carried twins for 38 weeks (6.4 lbs. each), 19 months later had another c-section, all while having a pre pragnancy weight of 245. Needless to say I have quite an "apron". I feel comfortable with the way the rest of my body is shaping up through exercise. Okay so maybe I want some implants too. I have told myself that I wanted to be 170 before seeking out a PS. I am 5"5" and in a 18 (because I have to tuck in my stomach in my pants). The rest of me looks like a normal person now. It is hard to feel good about this much weightloss when I see that apron everytime I look in the mirror. How much weight in skin can be removed during a TT. When should I seek out a PS in your opinion? Can you recommend someone in DFW for a self pay? Thank you so much!

Average Weight Loss per month
JamieLogical replied to Whitney1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are actually a lot of benefits to losing more slowly. It takes far less of a toll on your hair, teeth, body, and skin. You won't be replacing your wardrobe as quickly and often. People don't notice as much so you don't get as many awkward questions and comments. You have time to mentally adjust to the new you. A LOT of people on these forums experience body dismorphia where they have a hard time seeing themselves as the really are. I think this can be worse in people who lose really quickly and their brain has a hard time keeping up with the reality. -
Prevent/treat saggy skin after surgery?
Hevnbound replied to Curvy_Goddess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
330 starting weight and 72 years old will compound my problems. Would need to look for hygein and skin protection products - OTC and natural. Maybe Spandex will help outside the house? Plastic Surgery is not an option. I'm not a vain person but still concerned about appearance. Also, I plan on exercising but flapping skin might intefere? I'm fat right now but at least my skin is fairly tight- LOK! -

good luck to you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App thank you im excited to loose this weight thats hanging around lol -
i think many can determine before goal weight that they'll have skin issues that will need corrected. in fact, i've read many having PS before reaching their goal weight.

I too, fear the Really Saggy Belly Syndrome, but my surgeon advised me to avoid any plastic surgery for at least a year AFTER meeting my goal. He said our skin needs time to conform to our new bodies. If it hasn't after about a year, then we can think about other options. Has anyone else heard this? Hang in there!!

At age 49 I'm a bit surprised about the loose skin issue. I thought I would have loads of loose skin on my tummy. I don't. Just a little. I thought my arms would look normal. They don't. They are HORRIBLE. It's not at all what I expected. I figured that I could wear a one piece or cover up my tummy, and wouldn't have to worry about arms. In south Texas, it's HOT, so sleeveless tops are almost year round. I'm fretting over this, and I've only lost 65 pounds with 45 to go, so I know it's going to get even worse. I look like I have mud flaps from the underside of a semi truck!! Not pretty. I think I will have no choice but to fix them surgically. The two people that I've seen have it, did not have good results, so I'm scared.

Tuck and roll and duck tape work pretty good. Plastic Surgery sucks worst thing I ever did to my self. Do not worry about skin and enjoy the new life you will get. -
Prevent/treat saggy skin after surgery?
Mrs Havelock replied to Curvy_Goddess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before surgery I found the worst picture of loose skin I could find, showed it to my husband and asked him if he would still fancy me if I looked like that. He said 'Yes, because it's you I fancy.' What a guy! I'm 175+ lbs down, flappy as anything and he can't get enough of me. -

I am concerned about saggy skin too. I think that all we can do is exercise, eat right and stay healthy! I will not go sleeveless for sure and I am going to camouflage as much as I can. My concern is that I plan on looking for a marriage partner in the next 1 to 2 years. This guy is really gonna have to love me...saggy skin and all! Im 53 -

Well, it's been a while, but with all of your suggestions and encouragement, I've finally begun to loose as you can see from my ticker. In December 2011 I finally talked my bariatric surgeon to give me another x-ray to see if my band had slipped. It had not. The nurse practioner would not give me any more fillings. She said that I was at 7 cc and I could have no more even though I had a large band. She said that I wasn't doing my part. I just felt that there was more to the story. The band should be helping me, but I could not even tell I had a band. After getting nowhere with my bariatric center, I went back to my primary care physician and asked for a consultation/second opinion from another bariatric surgeon. My appointment was January 5th. The difference in their attitude was huge. They drew out my filling and found that I actually only had 6 cc, so they gave me another one. The difference was amazing! I could feel the band. Wow! I didn't know that's how it would feel. I had lost my 1st 8 pounds from the Friday before Christmas until I went to the new doctor's office, and that was a huge struggle. Since that day, I've lost 4 more pounds and it is so much easier. Granted I am taking the antidepressent, but I can tell the band is working now. When I eat meat 1st, I can't eat very much. I've been off of sweets since then, and it has been easy because I'm not hungry all the time. I have had no problem saying "No" to sweets - even donuts!! What a relief, not to be craving sweets all the time. The new doctor said that I still have some wiggle room with my band. I'm so glad he took me as his patient. Thank you all for your help.

There was *no* way I could have known what my skin would look like at 107 lbs when I was 297. No way at all. Yeah I knew I would need something, but not exactly what and where. And there was no way to know just how bad it was till I was there. Personally, I didn't want to have PS till I was at goal. There way no way I was going to have surgery, then lose a heap more weight, then end up back where I was before surgery (and pain, time off work, and expense) That idea didn't apeal to me, so I waitied till I was at goal weight. As it was, I still lost some weight. While it didn't ruin my surgery, any more weight lost would have. Add to that that most Aussie reconstructive surgeons will ask to to at least get to a healthy BMI or goal weight before they will touch you. (Plastic surgeons are different though, they will do anything, and are not covered under health funds and medicare) I know that the surgeon I went to would have turned me away if I had been 20 or 30 lbs overweight when I went in for my consult.

Hey Y'all! I am nearly 15 months out and I am noticing my loose skin seems to be bouncing back (especially my arms)...Is this really possible???, or am I just getting use to looking at it??? LOL! My hubby said he's noticed it bouncing back as well. I'm sure it's possible for someone in their 20's or even 30's, but I am almost 44 yrs. old...can this really be happening??? I don't work out l I know I should, and I'm sure if I did it would help even more. Anyone else notice this???

9 months since gastric sleeve 130 lbs lost
Bill0565 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wish I had done this years ago. It was a perfect fit for me. I have never been a snacker only a binge eater, my brother had gastric sleeve two weeks before I did and he lost about 30 lbs right away but has struggled ever since because he is a snacker eating often and also drinking calories. If you are a snacker and can't deal with that than gastric sleeve is not for you. I am happy with not having a great deal of loose skin, but I do have some in my lower belly and groin area. Gonna have that skin removed. Skin over my back and arms and legs is just a little loose but not sagging like my lower belly, but I think I am one of the lucky ones with that., -
Too much pre-op weightloss?
Missbeauty16 replied to meganrae<3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 2 months in and I've lost 40lbs already!! I did it naturally without any pills!!! I'm actually almost done with my visits but my BMI is higher than your so it wouldn't matter if I lost another 30 lbs. but that defeats the purpose I think in order for your mind and body to be prepared I believe having a certain amount of calories per day and exercise. Exercise is the key here. I used to take phentermine and my doctors have told me it's bad for the heart. Remember it is all in the mind. I would suggest maybe maintaining your weight cause if you loose to much and BMI is lower than 35 they may deny it just depending on your case. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I don't think you would benefit from just implants since there is so much skin. I had a reduction in 1996. The scars never bothered me. But if breast feeding is a concern, there is no guarantee you will be able to again as some of the mammary glands are removed. But I don't think a reduction is what you need it's a lift and implants. I am no medical professional but I think with those two you would still be able to breast feed as they are only removing excess skin. The scars are exactly the same as a reduction but no tissue is removed, just skin.

Breast Augmentation with cancer history in the family?
LilBoo007 replied to Bronco0605's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
From what I understand implants under the muscle hide the implant so to speak. For people like me who don't have any breast tissue or breast "fat" left an only have skin on top of muscle... If they were to put the implant on top of the muscle you would see the implant and you would see rippling and what not, so they put it under the muscle to try to mask or hide the implant so you hopefully won't see any rippling or anything. -
so went in for my 21 day post op check up and everything well lost 28lbs which seems great to me.Dr cleared me for purees now pretty weird actually using a spoon but this is a rid. So here where my rant begins ive seen a few people confused, worried, frusterated, in other words pissed because they hit a stall something my dr yesterday warned me that i will hit and basically id just like to say to everyone who is at a stall and feeling frusterated think about it this way You will eventually keep losing weight dont get anxious itll happen plus just compare the time youve been overweight to the time youve been sleeved all im saying if youve been overweight 10years,5yrs or what ever the case maybe why would you worry about having lost little weight to being at a normal stall for about a week or even a month this isnt a miracle surgery to loose weight overnight try putting a little elbow grease into it and help yourselves out remember you are in a journey sometimes there will be obstacles in the way but you have the tools to climb, teardown, kick, push your way through it so hold your heads high feel good about yourselves youve taken the biggest step to change your life feel proud about it. I hope no one was offended and myb it will help.

" I was just thinking that by July i would be really restricted. I'm in a good restriction now and was worried it would be alot more by then, but when i went to get my 2nd fill today, I was told i didn't need it. I am still learning about the feeling and just thought I wouldnt be able to eat much by then if i keep getting fills." It sounds to me like your doctor's office is doing the right thing. If you have restriction you don't need more fill. There are people who clearly have their bands wayyyyy to tight. Some of them later post the band has slipped and has to be removed. Some keep the band soooo tight they can't eat solid Protein. They survive on low fat/cal Protein shakes and loose weight becuase they are really starving themselves. New bandsters are set up for unreasonable expectations when they hear "I am full on just a few bites". 3 oz protein alone is more than 2-3 bites.
