I am almost four weeks out and am still tired. I am getting the fluids and the protein, for the most part, but still can't walk too far. I have been to the grocery store or to Costco but that is my BIg outing for the day. It might be my age---i'm 65. Pre op weight was 307. I have lost 24 pds (including pre op weight loss). I am on soft foods. I am afraid I will never get my energy back. any advice from someone farther down the road???

I’m 73 days postop and my weight loss has stalled. I have lost 34 pounds since surgery, but haven’t lost any weight in the last 2 weeks. HELP! What’s wrong?????
-
Exactly. We have to get into some kind of regular regiment. Discipline ourselves so it's not such a huge shock. A little commitment maybe each week. Like this week I gave up coffee. Next week no bread or rice. That's a big one! At least for me.

How long did it take insurance to respond?
TulipStar replied to Brandy~'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it is a roll of the dice. A co-worker was approved in 3 weeks. We have the same insurance and mine took 11 weeks. They made me jump through quite a few hoops and there was a lot of back and forth.... -
Having Trouble And Discourged
amy0501 replied to beth423's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery May 1 & down 19 lbs! I came home on puréed food. I'm not sure why you gained weight on puréed? Was it high fat? I think you're doing a GREAT job getting your protien in. I'm still struggling getting it all in. I lost 13 lbs the first week & it's leveled off to 3-4 week, which I think is more attainable. Don't be frustrated. It's not a quick fix. It will take time. Be strong. -
Marivan, I feel that way too. I have to fight for every pound. Twenty years ago when I was fairly slim, if I wanted to lose 10 pounds I did it in 2 weeks. I used to cut back to 800-1000 cal a day and lose almost a pound a day! Fast forward to 2 kids and 100 pounds later and I struggle to lose 1 pound a week. So frustrating!! However, before the band, I couldn't lose at all. I try to look at the big picture. If I continue at this rate, I will be at goal by next summer. And the slower we lose, the easier it will be to keep the weight off. No one knows this here yet but in my mid 20's I was a manager and Area Manager for Nutri/System Weight Loss Centers. I'm embarrassed that I used to counsel people who needed to lose weight and now I can't do this myself. The nurse practioner at my doc's gets annoyed with me because I know what to do to speed this up and I always have an excuse. I used to have clients who lost more than 100 pounds on that program. Unfortunately, those who lost it the fastest would gain it right back if they didn't stick to the maintenance program. I had a number of clients who lost it all and wound up back in my office crying because 6 months later, they gained it all back. This won't happen with us. Not only because we are losing it slowly, but because the band will keep us in control.

So I'm 4 weeks post op & I have been eating soft foods just fine for about a week. However, I think I may have hit a stall? My weight has been fluctuating between 5lbs since about the start of week 3. It'll go up 5lbs, then back down. But for the last few days, it's been fluctuating just a few ounces. Can someone tell me if I've hit a stall? I'm not sure if a stall means your weight just stays the same, or if you're not losing anymore past a certain point. I'm quite frustrated but I'm trying not to be because #1 I've just started eating soft foods. #2, it's still early & #3 I should just stay off the scale. Though, inches wise, I'm not losing either. It's just frustrating because I'm working out, eating a sufficient amount of calories, and the only thing I can think of is Protein. Maybe I'm not getting in enough (I don't get in the recommended 60 daily ) I guess my ultimate question is: Is this normal to stall this early on?! When did you stall?! How did you break it? I am so excited everything is coming so fast, all these test and clearance are coming to the end now. I will be having final pre-op testing this coming Saturday and final visit with surgeon next week. My pre-op diet starts on June 25th (only one week for me luckily) and the big day is scheduled to be on July 3rd; however I still have not received the magic call (to let me know I am approved by insurance BCBS NJ) but hoping to get it soon. I would like to know from your experience about the pre-op diet, if you guys did only shakes/ liquids or how your diet looks like?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!

how long did it take you?

When I received my approval they scheduled me for surgery about 3 weeks out. That left time for a couple final appointments and two weeks for the pre-op diet. Good luck with yours! -

I saw the doctor and they set it for 2.5 weeks out, but I had to wait a week to see him, so about 4 weeks or so... -
Greetings I'm patiently waiting to be banded
Loyalfriend posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First, I want to say thanks to everyone that share their stories on this site. I has really helped me "wrap" my mind around this decision to get the lap-band. I was successful losing weight on my own for a little while so my friends and family questioned my decision to get this surgery, but they are supporting my decision. I'm happy and nervous at the same time. I'm ready for this new journey and life style change. I'm ready to be happy about the way I look again. I'm ready to see some results after spending 5-6 days per week at the gym. -
I didn't feel anything with the first three fills, but kept trying to stay on track with my eating. Protein, protein, protein! After the 4th fill, everything has been great. I feel restriction just when I need it, and am not having to count every calorie that I eat. Hang in there! Something I didn't realize initially is that they will advance the fill amounts as you lose, so the more I lose at each appointment the more restriction they "can" add. I have another fill scheduled next week, and probably won't have them adjust anything as I think I may be in the green zone? Good luck. Hang in there.

My surgery is tomorrow and I'm so nervous
VSGayle replied to angel23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at the hospital getting prepped and still thinking about backing out. I am SO GLAD that I did not. I know everyone is different but my experience has been nothing but positive. Recovery was quick and I have accepted my new life and new eating habits. I have had no side effects whatsoever...and I am now 5 weeks post op. Just go in with a positive view of your new life after surgery...yes, the first few weeks can be a bit trying because of your limited diet but it goes quickly...soon you will be able to eat everything again. I am at 39 lbs and finally can see light at the end of the tunnel because for the first time I have hope that I will not only be able to lose the weight but that I will be able to keep it off Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on your progress -

Protein supplements post surgery.

How many weeks out were folks getting most of their protein from food and not supplements? -
So, I've had my band for about 8 months now. Within the last week, I have noticed some pain where my port is. It's not severe, just a little uncomfortable. It almost feels like a gas cramp, or a cramp you get when you are running. I have lost around 40 pounds, and a lot of it has come from my abdomen. My port is definitely a lot easier to feel now. You don't have to press very hard to feel it. I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same kind of issue, after losing weight. I don't see my doctor all that regularly, only if I have any problems. And I would like to avoid having to go in.

Hi! I am 54 year old male in NWPA and am in need of a Mentor either in the area or someone online to giude me and bounce ideas off of and to have another person to have some accountability with. I was banded May 20 2011 At that time I had gone form 292 lbs to 282 lbs in pre band regimen. Since banding am at 268lbs losing 14 lbs in the 11 weeks since the banding. Am at a point where some old eating behaviors are coming back and my discipline is slipping- by that I mean logging food, exercise...working the routine.. I am having relief from High BP and Elevated Blood Sugar from the current loss but gotta keep going. If you are a male of similar situation and understanding shoot me an email so we can talk about establishing a mentor relationship. Thanks for your consideration Mike

Stricture Symptoms (Episodically?)
Marc76JD posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gastric sleeve surgery on 11/18/16. I was 238 on surgery date and I'm 179 now. Periodically, I've had symptoms that seem like a stricture. Somewhat randomly, I'll feel like food gets stuck at the bottom of my throat, and I get nausea and feel really full after only one bite of food. This started happening about 6 weeks post-op, and I called my surgeon and they recommended I go back to softer foods, and come in if it didn't get better. Well, it got better, so I didn't worry about it. However, it has recurred a few times a month since then but only for a few hours or a day or two at a time, then it goes away. In the last few days, I've felt like a heaviness or lump in the bottom of my throat. For example, I have to take several pill tablets every morning, and when I swallow the pills, it feels like they can get stuck at the bottom of my throat until I wash them down with water. Same with food of any type (With the exception of hard candy which is just sugar crystals). Since a stricture is scar tissue, I can't imagine it makes sense that it would be episodic, but I'm wondering if anyone has had these symptoms or knows what they could be. -
I'm 7 weeks out now and ordered a turkey and Cheese wrap with lettuce and onions..this seem ok? I'm clearly not gonna eat the whole thing

Polyps and Barrett's - worry for nothing?
stephwv posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was shocked to find out the results of my upper scope. Three polyps removed (all precancerous), Barrett's from bile reflux (no gall bladder) plus small hiatal hernia. Who knew!? My question is for others who may have had precancerous polyps removed prior to gastric bypass - are you concerned about the stomach and section being "invisible" to a normal EGD? A little nerve wracking to me...any feedback appreciated! -
I want to take a sit down bath! Don't know if I can wait another week . I have never been a shower person. What's the worst that could happen?
