    General Funk

I had my surgery on Dec 11 and I had a 2 week stall also. I increased my Protein and Water and also I went back on the liquid Protein shakes for a week. Well today I got on the scale and I have lost another 5 pounds. I was so happy and elated. I think that the stall is common for a lot of people and each of us is different and loses at a different rate. Like was said in one of the other post......slow and steady wins the prize. I also like the losing a little slower as I do not want a lot of flab just hanging when I reach my goal. Think that you skin has a better time adjusting when losing slowly. Hang in there and we will all make it.

    Second Filling

Today i had my second filling. I am currently at 4cc. This time the needle poke hurt a little. Next filling in 3 weeks. I can't wait. Lost another 2 lbs. I was worying that I was doing something wrong and not loosing any weight, but the doctor told me that was normal and i should start loosing a lot more once they get me fully filled - or whatever amount they deem sutable for me.

    Just a Thought...

And sometimes people are just more comfortable with THEIR compartmentize thoughts of you. I find myself guilty of that with thoughts of myself. An example is my sister treated me to some clothing. I started this journey in Dec 09 wearing a tight 30/32 from the Avenue. I've lost over 50lbs but was hard me to pick up a smaller size than 28 therefore I picked up the size 26 even though I told myself to buy the size that I just fit into. Needless to say I put those 26 on today and they were loose.

    not losing inches?

There are several factors which can affect this, your muscle, skin, where your body stores fat depends on cortisol and other hormones. You can't spot reduce (if you could, you would see huge difference between Serena Williams racket/non racket arms), but staying hydrated, protein/diet and exercise will eventually get the inches off.

    BMI 39 250 pounds 5 ft 7

Most insurance will only pay if BMI is 40, under that you need to have other health issues. Do you have any? I am your same weight but one inch shorter, awaiting insurance approval but my surgeon thinks it won't be a problem. I will never wear a bikini again, I had four huge babies. Also keep in mind, most of us will have loose skin after weight loss. Your height should help some though. Good luck!! Sent from my Nexus 6P using the BariatricPal App

    Expectations of the band

Funny you ask this. See ... in the beginning, I decided to have the band because it was not too invasive and it was a slower loss than GB, so odds were good that I would not need excess skin removed. I told myself if I lost 100 pounds in 2 years, that would be fantastic. THEN...I was on here reading about people losing 20-30 pounds in the first month or two, and 10 pounds every month after that, and I got jealous. I was comparing my results too much to others' results and was becoming disappointed with myself--doubting myself...even though my results were still on track with my initial expectations. I had to stop reading the site for awhile. If I had read the POST-Operation posts PRE-Operation, maybe I would have been prepared for the aftermath of the actual surgery. I finally realized that my "new" expectations were too high and only based on what some others were experiencing. Eventually my fills started working and I started losing weight. I actually don't even think I'll be getting a fill at my appointment on Friday since I've lost 16 of my 34 pounds since April (yes...I only lost 18 pounds my first 4-5 months...). My 34 pounds (lost since surgery) is not alot, but where would I be without the Band? 10 pounds heavier? On another diet, only to gain 20 more over the next year? Now, I'm on my way to being 1/2 way to goal in my first year and AT goal in 2. My point here---don't let what you read here, and other people's successes make your expectations UNREALISTIC. Everyone is an individual so keep that in mind. This is NOT a fast and easy way to go. Exercise, eat right, and it'll work for you. I'm just happy that I can still eat most of what I like (it's harder, and I eat less of it, but can still enjoy most things except bread...). And -- I don't have to worry about how much heavier I'll be in the next year, or five years.... Good luck to you.
  8. Hi PMCW, I love your pre-op diet. I lost a lot of weigth on that same diet once.Low carb. Sounds like you are doing great. how much do you need to loose? I still am waiting for insurance to approve me. I will not have surgery until October. Have to do the 4mo. requirements for Aetna. Its not so bad as long as they approve me. I need to loose 60-70 lbs. I am so hoping I have made the right decision. I started thinking about it 4mo. ago and should of started the process then but oh well. will follow your progress. lv2bgoing:cool2:

Got My Date ...now What ?? Lol

I don' recommend it, but I had to have my "Last Official Dream Dinner" of my choice, knowing that will never happen the same way anymore. I say I do not recommend it be ause I would not want to see anyone screw up their surgery. I had to loose 20 lbs prior to surgery. My surgery was on a Monday. The Friday prior I had my final meeting and weigh in with the surgeon. Everything was a go. Saturday my family and I went out to the restaurant of my choice for a "Pig Out" Sunday I fasted all day. Nothing but Water. Monday went without a hitch.
  10. I am 21 and I will be getting sleeved Monday. Just curious about how you dealt with such a big change at a young age. Also if you have any loose skin or is it true younger skin snaps back easier?

    Cravings

I have to say that I did... I think it was a mental hunger im not sure but I still do and I'm 13 weeks out. this surgery was a blessing for me BUT I still have to WORK at it. or I wouldn't loose anything lol. Good Luck honey
  13. You have done sooo well!!! My situation isn't the same, but I can draw some parellels... I am a very social person, but I work from home... way out in the country. I could go days without seeing anyone besides my sons and animals! MOST days I intentionally shower, do my hair, dress decent and fine a reason to leave the house. This could be for a workout (ok, maybe no makeup!), a happy hour with the girls, a date, shopping, go into the office to work - something! Since you are doing an online classes and without a job maybe aren't in a position to join a gym or go shopping I suggest finding a volunteer opportunity (resume building!?!), find walking partners and set up a daily appointment to go walk, join a meetup group or something to get you out there talking to people. I lost over 150# and hit goal Feb 2013; just shy of 3 years ago. The headspace about how I look, my attractiveness etc has really changed. I understand the excess skin issue - I had it and I had skin removal surgery. That was such a boost and for me very worth it.... but you know what I have figured out over the last year - it doesn't actually matter that much. My friends are still my friends. I could get dates before skin removal, I get dates now, but still no "Mr Right". I guess what I am saying is that the inner changes that have happened in the last year are just as important (if not more) than the outer changes brought on by plastics etc. I know this is hard. I think you should also consider going back on the drugs that helped you before. Truth of the matter is that WLS, losing massive weight fixes alot of things, but it doesn't fix everything and I will go out on a limb and say it makes some things harder. No longer having food as an emotional outlet leaves a big gap for some. For me, it seems my actual fatsuit, the state of obesity provided me with some benefits that I did not really understand until it was gone.... Keep coming here for support and I really find that getting outside my own head (ie taking on things in the world that aren't about ME) is really healthy.

How do I break this habit?

Ok seriously it sometimes takes having a 'come to Jesus meeting' with yourself... I've been there. For REAL. I had the regain. I had the 'I can eat everything just in small amounts' self talk. I had the people come up to me 2.5 years post VSG and ask me if I was pregnant!!! Now at 4.5 years post, I've lost my regain, lost even more and am getting ready (finally) for my skin surgery. For ME, it took an ugly health issue to get my act straight. It's different for everyone but you have GOT to find your "WHY". Once you do that, then you need to just get back to the VERY BASICS. attend some bariatric support groups. track your water, activity and intake. empty ALL the junk food out. start taking your own food to EVERYTHING so there is no temptation. Go back to your surgeon office. talk to them. seek out EVERY form of support you can find. attend an Overeaters Anonymous group in your area, or a Food Addicts meeting. Do WHATEVER it takes. Sadly, statistically the regain odds are not in our favor. Let's all prove those odds wrong.
  15. YES MAM! I had surgery 6.21.13...had lost had lost 33, then at a stand still for 5 weeks ...then gained back 4 or 5 and continued to juggle those 4/5 # for 2 weeks. HAd fill #3 and have dropped 7# in 8 days...however I think my band is very tight. The scales at my center stated I was hanging onto to 2#'s of water...which your boady naturally does once you start loosing. My issue is getting in the 64oz of water a day! IT IS TUFF! Just plain tuff! Are you drinking that much daily?

    My VSG Life

I think it is great advice that if the scale drives you bonkers, only weigh monthly or weekly. In my case, a bounce here and there does not create emotional response but is rather an easy barometer for me. I weigh nearly daily and pay attention to trends rather than a single day. food tracking is an excellent idea for most people, but I did it for a FREAKING LIFETIME pre WLS and got fat doing it. My NUT recognized that for me, food tracking created emotional triggers, feelings of deprivation and stress over if I am doing it right etc, so my weight loss actually accelerated when i stopped tracking. I mentally count Protein and carbs (loosely) instead. I realize this is really not a good idea for many people and most should track to maximize their losses. AS you say, it is the recipe that works for us as individuals. I do think that it is great value to share the story with people just starting out or struggling though - so they can get some ideas on the best road to success!
  20. I haven't been on this site for a good long time. Life and family issues have kept me from doing much online. I have been moving right along with the band though! I am 3 months away from my 2 year Bandiversary. I am down 130 lbs and feeling awesome. HOWEVER. I feel just....stuck. Not food stuck. In a rut stuck. I am bored with foods. I am stuck in the 173-175 lb range and can't break through to start losing again. I am not drinking nearly enough Water. Exercise isn't happening. I have bat wings for arms and could probably fly if I fell off a building. Loose skin on my inner thighs and stomach area too. The strange thing is......I am happier than I have ever been with the results I have gotten. I feel good. I am starting to feel like I look good. However, I also have the flip side where I am just sad about the things that I am not doing yet can't motivate myself. Did ANY of that make sense to ANYONE at all?

    What do I do?

I’m really sorry to be asking this question and I know it’s disgusting but I just don’t know where else to go to ask this. Because I have a big belly it seems to been rubbing just awful on my skin … I’m developing a sore (it’s just starting so it’s not too bad) where the flap comes down and hits my other skin …. I have been working out a lot and it seems to be moist in this area a lot, plus the warmer weather it just doesn’t seem to dry out. Should I be really concerned? Should I go to the doctor?

    Mad at my scale

I have had my band since April of 2003 needed port repositioned from kinked tubing in August of 2003. My last fill was Oct 2004 at 4.4 cc my MD could not put anymore in under Fluro he sucks at this. Took a year off managed to loose 10 lb that year total of 58 lbs since Aug of 05. My new years goal to exersice 5 days a week. Since Jan 15th I do my treadclimber 30 min 5 days a week and burn 200 to 230 cal a session. I have not changed my eating patterns yet the 1st 5 weeks lost 5 lbs. Found a new MD 2 hr drive from my house that can access my port under fluro just fine. He checked my placement and did a barium swallow I saw the restriction on the video. MD did not want to put anymore in since I am at 4.4 in a 10 cm band max he will put in is 4.8 but worried about errosion. Since I had lost 5 lbs in 5 weeks doing my new exercise program he did not want to fill anymore and said wait intill I do not loose any more weight for a few weeks. That was Feb 14th. now today I get on the scale and gainied 3 lbs now at 195 instead of 192.Total loss 65 lbs, I know I am a slow loser but it makes me mad. My husband found a picture of me at 258 lbs prior to surger and say the band works . You will never be 258 again. He is right the year I took off no exercise and took 3 vacations 2 were cruises I lost 10 lbs. Why am I so hard on myself? Because I see people who lose the 100 lbs in less than a year and I am on my 3rd year with the band. Thanks for reading my venting post Annette:straight

Confused on what surgery to have

The day before thanksgiving just 3 short years ago I weighed 377 lbs. I am 5'9". And I started my 2 week pre op diet. I made the decision to be banded because it's seemed like the most logical Decision for me. I liked that the band could be removed should there be any reasons to do so. I also liked the fact that my anatomy wouldn't be changed and my digestive stayed in tact. I had a lot of weight to lose. My doctor wanted me at 150. I knew I would loose weight but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get to a size 10. 12 maybe...and I would be happier then ever!! Well 22 months later... In December 2012 I put on a size 4 pair of pants that fit. Granted they are generously cut... But I am a solid 6 and I weigh between 153 - 155 lbs. My doctor never told me I couldn't lose over 200 lbs. that wasn't something we discussed. He told me to take it a meal at a time, follow his orders to the letter and just learn to live with my band. And that's what I did and I couldn't be more happy with my decision to be banded.
  24. I just got off a "panic" call with my dr. about this pain...I had surgery 5/29 and was doing great until midnight last night when I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain in my right ribcage. I assumed it was gas and did everything I could think of to alleviate it, but after 18 hours of real pain I called the dr. He said it is most likely the port (and maybe some stictches came loose) causing a flare up as it tries to attach itself to my insides. He reminded me there is a foreign body in there and this is fairly common. It hurts when I move to either side, take a deep breath, etc...He said to take pain meds, kids liquid Tylenol (anti-inflammatory) and warm compresses and call him tomorrow. Ouch!

    panniculectomy

Update: surgery was Tuesday. Doc said surgery went amazing and she took off about 5lbs of skin. Left hospital Thursday afternoon. Drains came out yesterday. Looking pretty good so far. Need to keep the binder on for the next month. Still taking pain meds here and there. Going back to work Tuesday night. This will so be worth it after the pain and swelling goes away. Once i can stand up straight ill post before and after pics.
