    Sushi?

I would definitely say no, not at this point however I want to point out that week 3 is not always pureed foods. Every surgeon is different. I started soft foods on day 3-14 which includes things like yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs and even ground turkey as long as it's chewed very well. I am on day 10 post op and doing very well with all of these items. Day 14 I get to move into regular textured foods in 2-3 ounce portions and I'm so happy to have more options. Again, everyone is on a different plan, but I think the biggest thing is don't push yourself into anything that could cause you harm or discomfort. It's not worth it. Patience will pay off in the end.
  2. I agree with others about the Protein. I keep a Protein Bar in my purse all the time for "emergencies" and I also keep Protein drinks at both of my offices. When I do snack (which isn't often- I was a grazer preband so have to try to not snack) some better choices have been: trail mix (nuts and a little chocolate), cheese sticks, 100 calorie snack packs, a spoon of Peanut Butter and yogurt. I have made bad choices too-everyday is a learning process for me.
  3. I start pureeds next week for 2 weeks. I'm looking for any good pureed recipes. I'm not interested in baby food. I've got fat free refried Beans and I plan to blend that with salsa and then put in microwave with chedder cheese and to top with tblsp of plan greek yogurt. I'm thinking of blending some of my favorite Soups, but for some reason we're not allowed anything with corn so it's been hard to find soups without corn in them. Does anyone have any good recipes they used?

    How was your first fill?

Thane, It was hard to tell really. I guess I just got really sick of putting everything in a blender so I though I would try something thats not too hard. I started with cottage cheese. That went down great no problems. Then i had some scrambled eggs. Everything so far has gone down fine. The ONLY time (so far) that I have had problems is in the morning. I cant eat much early in the morning. So I just stick to protein shakes or maybe yogurt. Brenda, How much weight have you lost? Is your band a 10cc? Thats great that you do mini meals. I think I prefer that too. It is weird how the band affects everyone SO differently... Good luck to both of you!!
  5. I am required to do the liquid Protein I can have the EAS shakes or Adkins. Other things that I can have are. Protein powder mixed with water or hood milk (they recommend unjury or any brand containing whey protein) chicken or Beef broth (1 cup) sugar free Jello (1/2 cup) Crystal Light Carb control yogurt smoothies (no more than on per day) They also recommended Citrocel because the Fiber makes you feel full but I just don't like that stuff... Have something every 2-3 hours as needed to control hunger.
  6. I had type 2 diabetes when I was banded and I don't know if that was a factor in my failure or not but it may have been. After banding I found that my eating went from "normal" food choices to softer foods and I still really craved sweets, be it yogurt with fruit which I could eat endless amounts of or ice cream which I could eat endless amounts of or even Cereal. Mainly I chose the softer foods because I could eat them without throwing up and could eat any amount I wanted. So after losing weight preop I gained it all back afterward and then some. Plus my diabetes worsened and I also had high blood pressure and high cholesteral. I can still eat some sweets now that I've had my bypass over a year but only certains ones. Everyone is different and I have dumping syndrome still which for me makes ice cream intollerable, I get nauseous, which I see as a good thing as it was my main weakness prior. It can be very difficult to see these issues prior to surgery, at least for me it was as I wasn't even aware that I could eat large amounts of certain slider foods after being banded. People are more aware of the pitfalls now so that's a plus. I made the lapband choice first but had to revise eventually to RNY in order to lose, it wasn't easy and I can't take back what I orignially did but was a bit too scared to have RNY in the first place but I feel pretty normal and take my supplements and have bloodwork done and have survived. I also have a daughter who had RNY and two nieces and so far we've all done fairly well. So I'm just giving you some insight into a different point of view but it's your decision in the end and I just hope you pick the right one the first time, good luck to you, Nancy.
  7. It is really hard around the holidays and I get alot of support from home and co-workers etc. But I think it is a little more difficult in this month due to celebrations and festivities. My husband is supportive, but I do not think it is fair for me to change their diet and cook "differently" for them. Its hard enough that I am not as festive as usual and choose not to travel. So I just carry on as usual and when its mealtime, I go in my room with my shake and a diet soda:rolleyes2: I tell my husband to throw away all leftovers down the disposal when they are finished eating so I am less tempted to take a bite of the leftovers. What is everyone's pre-op diet? Mine seems extreme (shakes, yogurt, and clear liquids). ~Jackie~

    Can't stop binge-ing

Aww.. you already did hit yourself, with 2500 calories that made you feel horrible. I know when Im around that time of the month I get ravenous. Try taking emergency food to work with you. Things you can snack on to your hearts content without guilt. Low fat microwave popcorn, carrots, yogurt, a low carb bar that tastes like chocolate and Peanut Butter. Things like that. We were just discussing binges on another thread and all agreed that when this happens with the band, a binge is a few of this and a bit of that. Not 2500 calories at a time. The band will help, and you'll be fine. Also, try eating some brown rice. It's great for you and the carbs are like a fine sedative without side affects - unless you eat too many. hehe Hang in there, you'll make it thru this. *hugs*
  9. my doc said I could have yogurt I'm on full liquids now and it's part of the full liquids (: Popsicles are good
  10. There are several yogurt brands out there. there are Light, nonfat, and sugar free versions. I think Dannon and/or Activia has a smoothie drink. Whatever you choose it should be w/o chunks- No "fruit on the bottom". Weight Watchers has some you may like and don't seem to have fruit pieces; they are lo fat and sugar. I try to check the amt. of protein grams / serving in the container. Some are as low as 3 while others are 7-8.. Some use gelatin and others do not. Yoplait has several Whips. Lights., and regular versions without fruit pieces.
  11. Had surgery same day. On my follow up I was allowed to start with soft eggs, refried beans, cream of wheat or rice, malt o meal, low fat or non fat cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, canned fruit unsweetened and make sure it is peeled, sf pudding, laughing cow cheese. I try to keep more to the protein side, and I make sure I get at least 60 gms of protein, protein for you though should be higher. Starting now, I can have string cheese, deli meat, baked, broiled, grilled fish or seafood, water packed tuna, light or reduced calorie yogurt. I'm actually taking this from my nutrition guidelines provided by my clinic. They give up a notebook, outlining what to expect, what to eat, where we can get it. Great reference. I still try to avoid potatoes as it causes my BS to raise, but have tried some. Also states in the book to have only about 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, also I see soft cooked green beans and soft cooked carrots. Deli meat is 1 oz. Tuna is 2 tablespoons with light mayo or miracle whip. Hope this gives you some idea and helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated that is the most important, without fluid you are gone in about 10 days, without food it is about 30 days.
  12. I ordered some of this off Walmart and liked it so much I used quite a bit of it already so ordering more tonite - got the chocolate and the vanilla so far but this one sounds best of all. A half banana or a little sugar free yogurt? Yum http://www.walmart.com/ip/Body-Fortress-Super-Advanced-Whey-Protein-Chocolate-Peanut-Butter-Supplement-2-Lb/13274590

    Night time hunger

I went thru this as well. My dr. said I wasn't eating the right food for dinner if I was still hungry. I know that when I eat salmon or tuna for dinner I am so full I feel like I could bust. I have had 4 fills, the last one was in Sept. If I do get the urge to have a snack I have a cheese stick or yogurt. Good luck with that battle! I had fallen back into the snack habit bad. I am trying to avoid it as much as possible! It is a Daily battle for me.
  14. I just started putting salsa in my cottage cheese and I really like it. Also try ricotta with some maranara sauce. I eat a ton of shrimp and I make a greek yogurt wasabi sauce which I love on my salmon too. I tend to get most of my protein from fish and cheese since I dislike meat. Just watch the calories with the cheese.

    April 7th Sleevers?

My nut had me on a new directions protein shake plain . I get to eat a small lunch and yogurt . We are not put on a liquid diet . The evening before I do a colon clean, was with a antibacterial soap and use a antibacterial mouthwash . We stay 2-3 nights . I'm surprised by the different ways to prepare for this. I'm so dearly gonna miss my buttered biscuits and po boy bread ... But I will be skinny when I'm crying about it! Lol

    chips

I admit these r yummy & I have struggled w/ my chip addiction since being sleeved 9.20.12 & can proudly say I've lost 95lbs. I just dipped them in fage yogurt so I'd get my protein in. What works for some may not work for all. My motto is all in moderation:-)

    Pureed food

I am told mainly liquids week 1-2 with 1-2 TBL of yogurt or cottage cheese per "meal". Starting week 3, the tablespoons become 1/3-1/2 c. I believe starting week 7 I can move out of solely the mooshies.
  18. Hi everyone, Okay, so I am in the puree diet phase. I bought this "Powerful Yogurt" that has 20 grams of protein but it is an 8 ounce container. I can pretty much eat the entire container without any problems, actually, I have noticed that I have been able to eat more of anything lately. I know initial swelling keeps the stomach smaller and it once the swelling starts to go down, you ca eat more, but is this too much? I thought I wasn't able to eat this much? Is my stomach increasing too much? I am worried because I lost 18 lbs (3 weeks post op) and now it's slowing down. Am I not losing enough fast enough? Sorry for all the questions and terrible grammar. I am just nervous! Thanks guys and gals!

    Puree Ideas Please!

I am about half way thru puree stage. Not being very adventurous cuz I don't like the idea of eating mushy food. I like fat-free refried beans pureed w/chix broth, add salsa juice or taco sauce and fat-free sour cream. Another fav is healthy choice cream of chicken soup, chix broth, unflavored protein powder. This week I added some mashed potatoes and it tasted better, more like a meal. Other than that I rely on key lime greek yogurt or soft scrambled egg.

Should I skip the next fill?

I had to argue and fight for the third, I wasn't losing an ounce almost three months out from surgery and getting discouraged. The APRN said I was doing about .25 lbs a week, and he was happy with that loss... I wasn't! I know I can lose the weight with diet and exercise, done it before. It's those long winter months when you don't want to go and be active that do me in. Right now I don't feel any restriction, regardless of what I eat, except for a few very dry foods that go down slow. But, I am curious for those who measure a cup of food per meal--how many meals do you eat, how calories per day, and how much Protein? I'm on the low side for protein--about 60 to grams, and that's eating yogurt for Breakfast and fish fillets for lunch and supper. I try to keep the calorie count at 1000 for the day. Despite not having noticeable restriction, I still feel satiated after my meals, which I guess is the start of the Green Zone? I do feel some restriction for a few days after a fill--is that caused by the stomach swelling and reacting to the increased band pressure? But, that feeling subsides in a few weeks. Preop not losing

Happy Holidays everyone. Just wanted you all to know I did end up losing 7 pounds after 14 days of hellish torture LOL. My doctor said my liver shrank a little but not a lot. He said it will continue to shrink as I lose weight. I was on 19 medications and he said that can sometimes have an effect on the shrinking... so now we know. Surgery went well and other than feeling like I did 100 situps I wouldn't really know I had surgery. No real after effects. I threw up once in the hospital when I took too many of my 19 meds at once but other than that no other issues. I'm back to drinking normally with no problem. Still no food yet, I have 8 more days to go to get to puree but I get milk and yogurt on Wed and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will settle okay but will do small amounts at first. Thanks, everyone for being so nice and supportive! Love this group!

    Hi! New here!

I had a very similar situation, but had my band drained for both pregnancies (banded since 2003). I had band slippage and 2 hiatal hernias (first diagnosed Nov 2015/repaired Dec 2015, and second April 2016/repaired May 17 w/band removal & sleeve conversion). I'm currently at day 11 with my sleeve. Loving it! The first few days were a bit rough -- painful to drink, then the constant feeling of hunger. Yesterday (day 10), I was able to have yogurt and my first full feeling! Do know there is hope, and you are not alone! I read in one of the forums here that patients with band conversions have a more difficult time. My NP confirmed this yesterday at my first post-op appointment. So do keep this in mind if you're tempted to stray from better food choices.

Struggles with Living Away From Home

I guess I would have to learn to like seafood or food raise my own chickens. Do you have a modern kitchen? What is your set-up? What kind of market is available? You said that food choices are good, so I suppose that you can get seafood, lamb, chicken, maybe turkey? What kind of veggies are available to you? Can you get peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, zuchinni, carrots, sunchokes, mushrooms, greenbeans? Surely you can get yogurt and cheeses? I am somewhat familiar with Maltese cooking, which has Turkish, Mediterranean and Arabian influences. Let us know what equipment and grocery items you have access to. Do you take your lunch, eat at a cafeteria, or bring food from home? How big is your refrigerator? You can also PM me.

    Vegetarian breakfast ideas

Well, I eat chicken breast for breakfast most days, but that is probably not appealing to you I would suggest: Greek yogurt with some PB2 or peanut butter stirred in, cottage cheese with salsa, salad dressing, or peanut butter, any kind of eggs (my favorite!). A small amount of refried beans with cheese is a little higher carb but filling and has good protein, too. I also like veggie burgers (the kind from Morningstar Farms and similar).
  25. I was wondering when did you start eating raw vegetables. My favorite thing in the whole world is cubed tomato, cucumber, onion, salt pepper and dash of plain yogurt, but I am not sure how long I have to wait... Probably until next local farmers season.. I would chew on anything raw at this point, I am so sick of drinking my meals ( it has been almost 4 weeks - 2 weeks preop and then almost 2 weeks post op... I am losing it in between preparing meals for my toddlers and for my husband.... Ugh, it would be easier if we all could drink Protein shakes and have yell-o for desert... (cue romantic music... I can almost see the whole family skipping and dancing happily on the beach with Protein Shakes in our hands, I don't know, I am just in a desperate need of chewing. Popsicles make me sick and I hate puddings... Roar... Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope....
