The only people who will know I had revision surgery? My husband and kids. The last time it was to much attention and pressure. It triggered me to eat and hide. I have faced most of my past trauma. This time it's my business what I weight. Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

SLEEVE Revision to Loop DS
reachbree replied to Patrickml02's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't have experience with having a revision just yet though I am looking into it as I have gained 35lbs of the weight ive lost. Is this something that your insurance approved or are you paying out of pocket? I have heard that vsg is only a partial procedure. the Full procedure would be the DS. -
Hello Lisa, I had a gastric sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and also had severe Acid reflux / Gerd. I was sick six out of every seven days on average. I tried behavior modifications and several medications but they only worked for a short time. I became more and more concerned about Esophageal cancer so I finally had RnY revision surgery January 30, 2019 (about eight weeks ago). Since then I have had essentially no Acid reflux. I am still adjusting to the new diet regimen and yes it seems a little more restricting than my experience with the sleeve but I am progressing nicely and believe I made the correct decision. So I say do it. You won’t regret it and you’ll probably loose more weight.

Hi, I hope you do well. I am also having a revision from sleeve to bypass. What happen with your sleeve? How long since your sleeve surgery? Sent from my SM-J727T1 using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m about to have a sleeve division to a Loop DS. I would love to hear some success stories or failures even. I e read that the Loop DS is not as successful. Since it only started in 2007, there isn’t a lot of long term data. I just want to make sure I have just less likely chance of gaining the weight back with a Loop DS as I would with a regular DS.

Good luck! Remember why you’re doing this, to improve your future. Lying here in UK @ 8am, 5 days post band to sleeve revision surgery. Feel like I’ve been run over but know it’ll pass, baby steps. You’re doing a positive thing! Best Wishes........... see you on the other side!!!! -
My lap band revision to RNY is Friday the 29th of March. I just got approved yesterday and they are rushing me through because my insurance switches at the end of the month. So my head is spinning with excitement. I have had the band since 9/06. Tried to get a revision in 2016 when I had all kinds of complications but insurance wouldn’t approve it and the thought of gaining my weight back was a worse feeling. Fast forward to 2018, tried again and UHC denied me again. Moved to Kansas and got Aetna insurance and they approved me!! My surgeon knows my history and he is allowing me to bypass some of the stuff as I have been restricted for 13 years so it’s not completely new to me. I have had a slipped band for over a year gained about 45 pounds of my 136 pounds loss. Ready to get rid of the band pain. I hope I am making the right decision. It’s happening really fast. Starting weight before band in 2006 was 335, lowest weight in 2016 was 155 and my current weight is 195. Could use support if anyone out the has had revision. Thanks and good luck to all the Marchers out there.

I’m preparing for a sleeve to bypass revision due to GERD next Thursday. That aside, I believe stats show that bypass and sleeve patients lose the same average % of excess weight but bypass patients lose it faster. I liked sleeve because it was less intrusive but it clearly didn’t work for me.

Extreme Indigestion 1 year on
elcee replied to MyBo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Reflux is a very common side effect. The usual advice is avoid fatty foods, spicy foods, too much protein , caffeine etc. Don’t eat within a couple of hours of going to bed.Dont drink and eat together, wait at least 20 - 30 minutes. If none of that helps then maybe your Dr will prescribe something that does and if the meds don’t work a revision may be required -
I know we are all different, but I’m curious how much weight you’ve lost. I’m 5-weeks post op revision from vertical silastic ring to bypass. I’ve lost 26 pounds. Weight before pre-op diet: 240 Weight day of surgery: 230 Weight today: 214

Wanting Lap Band Revision to Mini Gastric Bypass
adorkbl replied to Paris79's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from my crapband to MGB in 09/17. I went the Bariatric Pal Hospital in Tijuana and Dr Illan was my surgeon. My experience was wonderful. Better care than I ever got in the US. My weightloss has stalled some the last few months but that is because I have been slacking on making good food choices and exercising. I haven't gained, but I am on a plateau. I lost just over 100 lbs the first year. It is soooo much better than the crapband. I suffered constantly before. Getting stuck, unable to eat healthy, fills and unfills. What a nightmare! The MGB is exactly what I was hoping the crapband was going to be. I can no longer eat ice cream. It makes me nauseous. And I can eat healthy proteins in moderation. My hunger is pretty much nonexistent. Just that pesky head hunger! Always a work in progress. :) -
I am scheduled for sleeve revision to bypass May 2nd. Who else is having surgery and would like to support each other?
-
I had it originally placed in 2005. It slipped in 2014, had it redone and then it slipped again in 2018. Revised to sleeve on 2/18/2019. Other than the slips no other issues that I knew of.

Duodenal Switch after Gastric Sleeve
disco stu replied to NY1966's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wish I could be more helpful. The "Duodenal Switch Surgery" forum on this site has been my go-to. It's a mixture of full DS and Sadi\Sips\mini DS'ers and doesn't get that much traffic, but the vets who regularly post here are informative and not Judgemental ( More than once I've gotten unloaded on at other sites by old school Full DS'er who seem genuinely pissed or threatened by Sips\Sadi\mini-DS'ers. Not pleasant.) I'd say something like 40% of the people on this forum are revisions from band or sleeve. I had both; Sips was my "third time is the charm" solution. Coming up on 1 year anniversary, and so far, so good. Regardless, I encourage you to post your questions, even if you're not sure this is "the right place." We'll do our best to get you the answers you need. -

I have arthritis in many parts of my body that a topical would be great for! Thank you for the diclofenac topical suggestions. Another question I have is related to my 2 knee replacements. I dont think I need revisions, idk but sometimes they hurt really bad like when basic shopping kills me. And, I dont know if the pain can be arthritis. Does anyone have any experience with this type of pain in a TKR? Would a topical help? -
My 10 day liver shrinking pre op diet starts tomorrow. It’s hard to believe I will having my revision surgery in 9 days. I am so ready to get it done and start living my new life. I have my shakes, crystal light mixes, sugar free jello and broths ready for the work day tomorrow! I usually do well throughout the day until 3pm ish when I start feeling that head hunger. I’m telling myself to keep busy at work because when I am busy I don’t even think about eating! Wish me luck!

I know everyone’s experience is different, but I felt like sharing mine. For over 20 years of being morbidly obese and trying different diets only one thing seemed consistent as I looked back over my history in considering starting the “sleeve” journey. It was this- without exception that the biggest discourager, hinderance and ultimate enemy of all my attempts had been that darned scale. When I knew I had sacrificed, sweat and did everything I was supposed to it was the negative influence of the scale that thwarted my efforts- every time. I took it’s word that I was a failure. Sooooo, when I pulled the trigger on the “sleeve” journey I made it clear that the scale would not be going on this trip with me! Of course my doctors use it, but only as one of the tools to measure my progress. But I have refused to use it! Rather I lean on the other tools my bariatric team has given me, nutritional goals, accountability tools, exercise goals, vitamins and supplements etc, I treat these things like a prescription for my health, ergo if I follow them and they don’t “work” I just ask my team to revise my “prescription”. But the scale is subject to me and not me to it this way. I don’t mean to come of like it’s been easy and some days I thought “if I haven’t lost........” But only weighing in at monthly and sometimes bi monthly has taken the pressure off, stopped the mental stress and helped me to make the priority changing my habits regardless of what the scale says. That being said- you got this- if you are ready for the change don’t listen to no stupid scale!

No, in fact, the losses slowed down after the revision. But, I don't know if that had anything to do with the surgery or just that I was so close to goal.

Having already had a revision to bypass for reflux, this one scared the hell out of me! I do totally agree with his comment about fixing your brain, though! -
Hi all, im new to this site but open to suggestions , So my story is , i had a gastric bypass in April 2017, weight loss great, all my medical conditions settled , but i had pain in the insides of the left rib area from quite early on, i couldn't get to the pain by touch, i had the camera and CT scans , i was later informed i had ulcers in the new pouch, i was relieved to find out i did have something wrong and this pain would go away , so in 2018 i had a bypass revision to have the ulcers removed , my new pouch had lengthened (stretched due to acide reflux) , so i had further surgery to shorten this and the ulcers were taken out. Further complications arose, as they removed the ulcers they caught my bowel , more surgery was needed and i lost 5 pints of blood, recovering from the surgery , 5 months later I'm still in excruciating pain on the left side, pain killers don't help at all, and my GP said it was my 'Back' i knew this wasn't what was wrong with me and i felt i had no support or getting anywhere with my condition. The hospital were also at a loss what was happening with me, and tried to diagnose me as depressed, the only depression i had was pain and not been believed. i took it upon myself to do my own research and i have came up with Bile reflux, not acid, the GP listened to me and agreed to try me on some medication, as i wa passed myslef by this time, after 5 days of been on the medication , at last i'm getting some relief ,i cant explain the pain i have been in, i thought i was going insane at one point as all the tests were negative, scans all clear , pain that i couldn't get too, yet it had me drinking bottles of strong pain relief to literally put me in bed . My question is ? has anyone else had this complaint of BILE REFLUX and if so what was the outcome as i understand the medication can only be take short term?

Hi! I had surgery on 3/20. Sleeve to bypass revision. I have no trouble taking meds in pill form and am able to drink liquids comfortably. I see that lots of folks struggle with both. Does anyone have any insight as to why some of us are more restrictive than others? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
