  1. I love the premier protein shakes. I haven’t had the oat ones yet. Mainly bc they are more carbs and less protein. The blueberry is the one I’d try if I did though! I bought the strawberries and cream one today. My fav so far is the Cookies and Cream. It tastes like your drinking the milk of your Cookie Crisp cereal. So yummy. Having my first strawberry one tomorrow morning.

    May Surgeries - check in!

Made it through! Surgery started around 12:30pm, I woke up around 2-2:30. I was in immediate pain and had nausea. I was honestly regretting everything in that moment. But 12 hours later I’m feeling much better already. Pain is being managed, haven’t had much nausea since that first few hours. I’m walking well and sipping my water well. Only issue is it’s hard to sleep bc I’m up every hour having to pee from these damn IV fluids. Hope the others who went today are faring well also!

    Potential Gastric Sleeve Poll

Thanks so much for responding. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me your stories. What was the final straw for you to finally make that move to go to a surgeon? Did something happen or were you just fed up with being overweight and just decided to go through with it? I guess I just have reservations about doing it. I know a few people who had the gastric bypass. One is gaining his weight back 3 yrs in and the other a female seems to have put alittle bit of her weight back but she has had ALOT of hair loss. She also had skin removal not long after her weight loss. Both seem deficient in vitamins etc. I just dont want to go through all this and ultimately end up gaining it back. Id like to think that I could say on target and make a change in my eating habits and the types of food I eat but seeing others starting to put the weight back on makes me second guess doing it.

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

I believe we leak energy when we keep secrets because that act in itself requires energy and attention. However, I did keep mine a secret from many people before the surgery bc I’m susceptible to people pleasing and I wanted to be sure of my decision only for me, regardless of what anyone else says. Timing is important. I finally told my dads side of the family this week when I felt ready to answer questions. Ultimately, everyone needs to do things in their own time. We all protect our mental health in different ways.
  5. The food plan is not aligned with what I believe is important. It is focused purely on losing weight and not on health and nutrition. I’ve made adjustments from the beginning to incorporate whole food but I haven’t given up dairy bc of the protein. Now that I can eat meat, I’m going paleo. thank you for your input, but I value whole food over a faster weight loss.
  6. I told basically everyone (I am a very open person about pretty much everything) and received SO MUCH negativity! Even from people I thought would understand. It's absolutely implied that people think of this as the easy way which is such BS. This is the hardest thing I've ever done to lose weight. Regular dieting is nothing compared to this. So many people told me all about all the other ways to lose the weight (as if I'd never tried before) or that I wasn't fat enough to require surgery for help. Luckily I have a very supportive partner who has been wonderful. I applaud your decision and really hope it goes well for you!
  7. Even though this wasn't directed at me- I still apperciate your input!! I told no one (except my boyfriend) and am glad I made that decision- im only 3 days post op but feel like certain friends would judge me and I don't have time for that bs.
  8. Had my revision on March 29th and it was a much longer surgery than we had anticipated .. took about 5 or 6 hrs but everything turned out okay.. I stayed an extra day in the hospital bc of how tired I was.. I could barely sip anything. Recovery at home went well. I did have A LOT of pain but that was probably due to the additional work they had to do and the length of surgery..I had more scarring and my sleeve was bigger than they thought..I am feeling great now..down 18lbs, no heartburn, Gerd or acid relux. It is slower this time around but I was also much bigger with my first surgery. Hw ever:400 Day of Sleeve surgery:350 Lw post op 1-2yrs: 230 Hw prior to revision: 290 Day of revision surgery: 278 1st day Post op: 288 Cw :260

    Nurses! pls respond!!!

HI! I just recently had the sleeve April 29th and im worried about my transition back to work! im a nurse and with covid, the acuity is super high. were supposed to get like a breakfast break and a lunch break but I can't ever remember taking more than 15 minutes break during a 12 hour day. I really nervous about getting my water in or having time to sit down and drink my drinks and eat my food. I should be going back may 18th, so starting phase 2 diet. Please, any nurses out there or anyone who also does labor intense jobs where you're on your feet for 12+ hours, pls give me advise on making sure I get my water in??? At home its no problem bc I sit with my water right next to me but I can't do that at work, were not even allowed water at the nurses station. anyways, please help and ill take any advice you've got!

    Anyone for October 2020?

I have been listening to podcast by Corinne - Losing 100 pounds as she talks about the emotional side of losing weight and how weight loss and keeping it all is a matter of fixing our emotions and fixing the head work. She is amazing! She says it like it is such as don't eat your feelings because feelings aren't hungry and don't need to be fed. You can listen to her podcast for free here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/losing-100-pounds-with-corinne/id1233384453 or check out her No BS weightloss program website here : https://www.phit-n-phat.com/

    Documented weight loss attempts!

When I met with the nutritionist we went through the weight loss attempts I had made before - I had done weight watchers twice, lost a lot of weight through diet and exercise on my own, done intermittent fasting. Nothing had been medically supervised, except for taking a doctor prescribed weight loss medication (I lost weight with everything except the pills), but it all apparently counted. I have BC/BS but each state and each plan is slightly different. I still have to do their 4 months of group nutrition classes, and I've done two months of those. I think it's good that you've done the documentation. You might also consider signing up for Weight Watchers, because they seemed to love that I had done that, even thought I lost more weight on my own. But that might just have been my surgery center.
  13. Its 7pm here where I am. I didnt have much pain when I sipped, more like discomfort. But, I did have pain if I sipped too fast behind one another, oh yeah, I definitely felt pain..it was bad. So just take it slow, your tummy is swollen & inflamed & very sensitive. So take small sips out of those one ounce cups, if it takes you 5-10mins to do so, then do that..don't force it, slowly sip every 15minutes. Try to get up & move around as much as u can, dont over do it but to help get those gas pains moving around & out of you & to keep from setting up blood clots. I know its painful, trust me I know, once I got home, 5 days later I was rushed back to the ER for severe pain, thought I had a Leak, thank GOD it wasn't! I just did too much..so please dont push yourself like I did bc I can be dangerous & very painful. My daughter eventually stayed with me to help me up & down until I was able to do it all on my own without any pain. You have to find what works best for you! Stick with it, follow your surgeon's plans & orders as well as your nutritionist & stay sipping for hydration..you'll be just fine! 😊
  14. Yeah, i had it bad too! I ended staying in the hospital an extra day bc I couldn't keep any fluids down & how horrible the gas pains were. But, eventually, everything fell in place & things got alot better. It took time with some bumps here & there along the road but I got there & I'm now 2 months & 3 days out from my surgery & feel GREAT!!! Hang in there, it gets better & so well worth it!!! Just stay hydrated too! Keep sipping!!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Had my sleeve on 6th.. so, 3 weeks for me. I still have a week left of puréed foods. It’s been an emotional roller coaster! I went back to work after 4 days, probably was a bit over zealous bc the fatigue is still getting to me. I can’t wait to actually bite into something. I’m also experiencing a slight stall so trying to stay off scale for a few days!!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I’m a newbie here - just found you. My surgery is tomorrow and there is no pre-op diet which makes me a little concerned. I have to drink 2 ensure carbohydrate drinks tonight between 6-8 and then 1 tomorrow 2 hours before surgery. I’m excited and sooo nervous and bc of covid I can only bring my phone, charger, eye glasses and case. I leave in the clothes I arrived in. So I’ll be walking the halls in a terribly fitting johnnie 😂
  17. I'm scheduled for my procedure on July 23rd. It's a Friday. I was told that I will fly into San Diego early, be picked up and taken to Hospital BC and have my procedure that same day. I will stay that night and Saturday night at the hospital and Sunday I will be at the hotel. Monday I will check out of the Hotel and be driven back to the airport in San Diego and then fly home. Everything taking only 4 days. I'm worried that I'm not giving myself enough time to rest. Is this time line realistic? I don't want to be in excruciating pain or hurting myself trying to do to much to soon. Any feedback?? Sent from my moto g stylus using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. Hi there. Is there any way of getting my name added to the lawsuit list? I reached out to the BC lawyers but haven't heard anything. Thank you!

    Can We Talk About...Birth Control?

Hello to everyone and a very big thank you to all of you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, the guy I was seeing broke it off with me and I never had to worry about bc in the first place (sorry if TMI). It was a pretty upsetting breakup. But at least thanks to all of your input, I have some ideas for the future, if anyone special ever does come along.

    One glass of wine....

I will be seeing my in-laws for a family party about 7-8 weeks and I plan on having a glass of wine bc none of them know I had surgery, and I don’t feel like fielding questions about whether or not I’m pregnant since I’m not drinking!! I’ll probably pour a half glass a few days before at home and see how it goes, then have one glass with them and sip as I want or can. For many of us it’s something we enjoy and it has to be reintroduced at some point! Enjoy!
  21. Hello everyone. I had my sleeve done on 3/30 so I’m about 2.5 weeks post op. The first week was all clear liquids and I stuck to that fine, I didn’t really have much hunger. I noticed toward the end of that week though that I had no issue meeting and even exceeding my surgeons water recommendations - I should have 60oz and I can easily take in 80+ oz. I thought this was good for hydration. Once full liquids and now puréed food has started though I am STARVING. And I never was before. I know the difference between head hunger (which I do have and fight) and actual hunger - this will have me in pain because my stomach is churning. Before surgery I would sometimes not have time to eat during the day and I would be fine - I was a big evening and weekend eater. I get in well over my water and protein recommendations and am always still so hungry. That also leads into the restriction. At my follow up appt they said I should be eating 2-3oz, 3x a day. I asked if that was what should be enough, or what I should stick to no matter what. She said stick to it, but I should feel like it’s enough. But it doesn’t! I can easily have 8-10oz of soup or 3-4oz of purées without taking breaks or waiting - no tightness or discomfort like anyone else describes. I have only done it a few times to test it bc I know it’s bad and I shouldn’t - I need to manage the temptation. But I’m starting to wonder why I even had this surgery done. So much prep and pain when I can seemingly still eat the same amount that I did before, and I’m actually more hungry now that I ever was. I don’t have any restriction at all.

    Weight loss post pregnancy

I want to kick your nutritionist. We need to stop shaming people who can't or don't breast feed their children. Fed is best. My friend had a breast reduction in college so she could run and was told she likely wouldn't be able to breast feed. When she got pregnant at 40 the nursing team made her feel so bad about not trying harder that her kid ended up in the hospital. It sounds like your nutritionist was just trying to make you feel bad for not breastfeeding and giving you one more reason to feel guilty. You can lose the weight and while it might be slightly harder in the short term, moms all over the world have formula fed and gone on to lose weight. You got this!

    Vaginal Bleeding

I had spotting two days after surgery that continued for 6 days. My cycle is irregular (PCOS) and I’m not on BC. Extreme stress whether physical or mental can cause sudden menstruation.

    Menstruation after VSG

I take BC pills and didn’t have to stop for the surgery but my first TOM after the surgery was so heavy and lasted for 10 days, completely zapping my energy. Thankfully the next month after that was more normal.

    Menstruation after VSG

I used to get migraines a week before my period like clockwork - even with BC. Nothing worked over the counter or prescription. I went to a homeopathic guy, and he said that they were caused by a build-up of estrogen in the liver. He recommended B12 because it flushes the liver. I started taking it and the migraines stopped. I highly recommend it.
