There has got to be a better way
kimbernada replied to tomato pie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the Syntrax Nectar shakes too. I still have one every morning for breakfast. Actually, I do one scoop of either the Vanilla Torte or Chocolate Truffle plus one scoop of Big Train's Fit Frappe Mocha and blenderize this with 8 ounces light soy milk and four ice cubes. 39 grams of protein... and total yummy shake WITH caffeine. -

Well I'm 30+, however, I got pregnant a year after my band. I just wanted to reassure you that the band will not interfere w/ your pregnancy. I did not require any unfills, but that is always an option if you or baby are not doing well/growing sufficiently. That's the beauty of the band-it's flexible. Good luck in your endeavors -

@@turnaroundtina Good for you for going for it! I'm going to wait for you to tell the world that it was the best decision you ever made! As for the downside of side effects, yeah they come. NOT right away, but a few months down the road. And if it's going to happen (and more than likely it will), it doesn't seem to matter if you take all your supplements and Protein. Your body is sending the nutrients to the vital areas of your body, and the hair on your head just isn't one of them. It passes. Biotin will NOT prevent hair loss. Read up on it. It just makes what you have look great. And sagging skin is also part of the deal, but what you have to remember (and I think you already know this) is that your health is so much more important than hair and saggy skin. I have found great 3/4 sleeve tops that conceal my saggy arms, and cool capris pants that conceal the saggy inner thigh area. All look great, I FEEL great (now in a size medium), and this is the greatest thing I ever did for me! I think you'll feel the same! I wish you the best on your new journey! -
Funny lunch story
gowalking replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh gosh....full liquids for six weeks?? You are a better woman than I. I was on full liquids for two weeks and then went to mushies. And pre-op was allowed veggies along with broth and Protein drinks. Good luck, stay strong!! -
I was Sleeved on 10/29. Been trying each day to get in all my protein and liquids but I have fallen a bit short each day. A;so struggling to get my vitamins in. I am still not feeling hungry but yesterday I just started growing really tired of the same texture of "food". I am a fast food girl, have been since I could get my own money and get to the drive thru. I miss the crunch, the spice, the different textures, the ability to choose something different everyday/every meal. The food commercials are really getting to me and I'm starting to think, "I can't wait until I can have that". I'm afraid that this means failure is right around the corner. I'm starting to regret that I ever did this. I could really use some encouragement and maybe some suggestions on how to work through it. Thanks.

8-days Post-Op. Craving textures and spices. Afraid this is a sign of future failure.

I'm also only getting 15g to 20g of protein a day, and my surgeon said that is normal and he doesn't expect me to get to my levels for weeks. So I'm not stressing. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Preventive measures: Angelina Jolie versus me
LouiseC replied to LI Gemini NY's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was being tongue in cheek but clearly the humour didn't translate. I meant you no offence. In fact, I am saddened when I hear of others who do experience this sort of negativity and was attempting (and clearly failing) light heartedness in my response. But then I guess it shows how different people can be. I am fairly positive and breezy, tend to care little for what others may think of me or say behind my back, and that has meant I do live a pretty fantastic life because what I experience is overwhelmingly positive. I self paid for my surgery as an elective option when the only co-morbidity I had was apnoea. When I said before about the realities of my situation, that referred to explaining to someone how much I had yo yo'd with my weight, on the exercise and diet crazy cycle, for several years and how I knew I needed to get the sleeve as I just could not maintain any weight loss I had been successful with previously. I am a strong believer in the impacts of many years of abuse of our bodies leading to dysfunctional metabolism and disproportionate ghrelin production. So explaining this to the one naysayer did turn out in the positive for me. So apologies if I offended you, it was not my intent. -
Is it possible I have already stretched my new sleeve?
suejersey replied to fultont's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You aren't going to feel the sense of restriction from liquids. Once you get to solids you will be drastically reduced in the amount you can take in. And then over time you will increase your calories to an amount that will maintain your weight loss (if you work the sleeve the way it is supposed to be used) Don't worry about how you feel right now. I am 8 months out and have upped my calories to approximately 800 a day and I can have anywhere from 2 - 3 ounces of Protein at a meal with maybe two - 4 bites of vegetable. So after approximately 7 months of solids I still can't have that much at a time, and you will be the same. I easily drink 64 ounces per day in addition to the food (not within 30 minutes before or after food). Your stats look very similar to mine at your stage. Just keep following your doctor and NUTs instructions and try not to worry! You'll do great. -
why...what am I doing wrong
carstanger replied to Jami<3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to get your 60 protein per day or what ever your own doctor recommends and the 64 ounces of water. I was swollen from the surgery, so actually gained weight at first. Caro -

5 days post op not sure if everything's right.
Gungirl1385 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days post op. I was drinking 20oz of Protein day one walked 5 miles before out of hospital. Nurses were surprised how well I was ready to go. I've stayed liquid for the most part I've ate Soups and soft cheese for the first time. What I'm wounded is how do you know when your full and is the time frame between bites you should have. I almost feel like my stomachs fine and I didn't even have surgery I also had a bad hernia repair so kinda hurts to swallow Water and liquids but I'm not sure if its the surgery or the hernia repair. Any advice on how to know when your full. Sent from my LG-H830 using the BariatricPal App -

I appreciate you sharing your story with me. It is interesting to see both ends of the coin and I know nothing is absolute especially reading off the internet but I always see it will cure it or reduce symptoms. That a huge reason why WLS was an option for me. I used to be a fitness person (or at least for 2 yrs. ) but I was torturing myself. I would do 1200 Calories a day and 4 hours of working out to shed any pounds. This got me to lose 2-5 lbs a week but then would eat something like a bowl of cheerios and gain 5 back. It was disheartening and to only get to 198 naturally and stop, ugh! -

aelovelady replied to wicked's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't feel bad. You have to live your life. I don't know why you fell asleep, and I am 8 months post op and have NEVER been told to avoid carbs, fats or anything else. I try to eat protein first, veg and fruit second and carbs third, but I eat WHATEVER I want, to include cookies, ice cream, cheesecake, etc. try to avoid eating outside your meal times and definitely avoid calories from liquids, but other than that you should be good! -
Just a quick food tip - most of us know that Greek yogurt is a good food choice after WLS (higher in protein, goes down easy), but many brands with any flavor have a lot of added sugar. Skyr Icelandic Provisions is a new label for me, with great stats: in a big single-serving container (250g), it has 130 Cal, 11g sugar, 2g fat, and 15g protein. And it tastes great! Enjoy!

Can you help me make sense of my Pre-Op Diet??
AutumnLily replied to Dannymac's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry I got lost with the you can have as many Protein drinks a day and then it stating that you can only have a maximum of 40 - 50 carbs with the protein drinks. Then saying NO solid food allowed yet you can have protein bars and if you must chicken, steak, hard boiled egg... Plus there is no calorie limitations but how would you be able to have increased calories if you are not eating solids? When I was on my liquid diet post op I was trying to find ways to increase my calories to 500. My pre op diet was lean Proteins min 60 gms and reduced carb to 40 gms for one week. Avoid sugar and increase Water to min 64 oz. I had no problem following mine. I think you might want to get some clarification from your doctor on the diet. -
Skyrim Icelandic Provisions
RickM replied to elmatador's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Siggis is another brand of Icelandic yogurt - similar to Greek in being filtered and concentrated, so higher protein. Like Skyr, their flavored yogurts are a low sugar added, at around 11g total; compared to 6-8 g of naturally occurring sugar in unflavored yogurt, that isn't bad, and reasonable compromise between the usual national brands that can run 20+ g for the flavored varieties, or the usual "low carb" artificially sweetened types. The Icelandic yogurts also are nice in that they are not gaggingly sweet as most other flavored yogurts tend to be. -
I know what you mean about missing fruits and vegetables. I'd check with your doc but I think that would probably be OK. I think people don't often do the fruit and vegie plan you propose for a couple reasons: a) quite a few people have trouble eating a lot of fresh fruit with the band, and the same goes for vegies unless they are cooked very well (overcooked), and I think it is the Proteins that give you that "full" feeling. Getting that "full" feeling without eating a lot of volume is what makes the band work for a lot of people. You may not be able to get the same full feeling when the bulk of what you eat is fruits and vegies. Having said that, I don't think there is any reason why you can't do what you are saying if it works for you. But of course I'm no expert. I'd still check with your doc/nutritionist about this. I'd also be cautious about diving in to a lot of fresh fruit and vegies until you know these items will agree with your band, and not get stuck.

I'm a big believer in chocolate Unjury. I drink that for breakfast since my band tightens up in the night. Then I have bacon and eggs about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I can eat two slices of bacon and two eggs if I go slow. I have to have cooked veggies and I tried to eat and apple and that was a disaster. But cooked fruit and veggies work. We are supposed to get 60 grams of protein a day which I get with Unjury and eggs and bacon. I also eat meat for dinner though not a lot. I just wish I could eat a really good roll.

Hello, Does anybody have any good Protein recipes? I drink the unjury chocolate protein. I wanted to something top it to give it some type of flavor because I'm sick of drinking plain old chocolate. I'm 18 days post op. Thanks

I agree, the waiting to finally get the surgery is hard. The day of was no big deal, the 24 hrs following, I felt pretty yucky. I'm 3 days post-op and feeling better each day. Am looking forward to full-liquids tomorrow. Broth just isn't palatable, but I'm thinking creamy chicken soup will be as well as the protein shakes, I really like them...as least I did before surgery. Good luck, and I just keep thinking "Nothing tastes as good as being thin and healthy feels" -
how did u decide Gastric bypass rather than the sleeve
Fairyluver75 replied to mom24kiddos's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
The way I decided on the RNY was because my dr had mentioned that with the sleeve you would eventually have to have another surgery. The band to me was strange because you have this foreign thing in your body and it creeped me out especially since you could feel it. My friend has it and when she got pregnant I could see the port pushing against her tummy as she got bigger. I decided the RNY was the best option due to the amount of years in existence and I don't want to have another surgery, already went through that situation, don't want to do it again. Hope that helps! -
4.5 months out and requesting guidance
anewme2015 replied to anewme2015's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, it worked and it didn't take long!!!! I increased my calories (even though it seemed so wrong) and you were all so correct! I've dropped 3 lbs since I'm previous post and I'm experiencing fewer cravings. I feel strong of mind again and back on track. So to those people struggling with the never-ending plateau- consider increasing your calories, refocus your lean Proteins, drink that Water, and be patient. If you work it, it works. Eventually! Lol
