one week out n starting to worry
determined4 replied to butterflyjen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was on the 4th and I'm having the exact problem! I want to eat some yogurt no fruit or cottage cheese or somehting soooo bad! It's true when I get a drink of something my stomach feels better and the hunger pains stop. But I want just one bite of something so bad! Funny just a few days ago, I thought ha I could do liquids forever and food did not appeal to me what so ever! But now that I'm feeling better, its a different story. Think I'll try some tomato soup and see if that helps hold me off of some mushy food! I wonder if we can have egg drop soup yet? I can't get my protein in either! They make me wanna throw up! Trying to last 6 more days then maybe some greek yogurt will help me get some protein and maybe a poached egg or avacado. -
I did the Pure Protein shakes 2-4 a day and up to 3 cups total of fruit, veggies, or low fat yogurt under 20 gm carbs. I lost 20 lbs presurgery.

Any soft food ideas?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can the greek yogurt be flavored by yoplait or it has to be straight plain? Sent from my KFTT using the BariatricPal App I like the Danon Light and Fit Greek. -

A few possibilities... Hummus, cottage cheese, eggs, soft cheese, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, beans, creamy soup... Did you have a Nutritionist with your program? They should be a good resource. Concentrate on protein, watch for sugar/added sugar, and low carbs. -
The plane trip home was also my biggest concern. I went to Dr. Almanza who also keeps you three nights altho you could stay longer if you wanted or needed to. The first day or two after surgery, I was thinking about changing my flights and going home over a two day period, even tho it was only two 2+ hour flights. I was traveling alone and felt very tired. By the third day, I felt so much better and was so excited to go home. I had made my reservations with Southwest; I think they are about the only airline that allows you to change flights without a penalty. The unused portion stays as a credit for one year or you can just change your flight and pay for any difference in fares. I did splurge at the last minute at the airport and cancel my flight home on SW and book a first class seat on a nonstop Alaska flight. It was the best thing I did. The larger, more comfy seat made a huge difference. I travel alot and that was my first time in first class. Kinda dumb since I couldn't take advantage of the free drinks and nicer meals! LOL I had packed very light and only had one carryon. I didn't have any problems walking thru the airport at all. I think alot of it is also mental and the more positive you are, the better you will feel. I drank watered down apple juice and ate yogurt on the flight home. Hot tea would have been good also tho. I have used it often to settle my stomach anytime it is a little upset. Good luck! You will love the results!

Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
purrfctangel replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is under 800 calories a day. Two shakes, then 2-3 cups of raw veggies with 4oz lean protein. I'm not a huge eater and have been hungry! I've added a bit of cheese, yogurt, salsa, guacamole, bacon bits, hummus to the huge salads while still doing the gym. Surgery is Monday! I think the diet is 90% to get you used to it. -
Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
missheidi47 replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same date and started my pre-op diet Monday as well. Generally, I have to keep the carbs under 100 grams, no sugar, no fruit. It's 3 - 4 Protein shakes a day, and non-starchy vegetables, broth, cream Soups, plain yogurt, sf popsicles. I can have up to 6 ounces of chicken or fish once each week. The NUT said that salad with regular (not fat-free - too many carbs) dressing. I too had the piercing headache on the second day because of caffeine withdrawal. The NUT said that a little caffeine from tea was okay, but definitely none after surgery. So I bought some crystal light iced tea, and I put a little in my Water. Trying to taper down to no caffeine next week. It's not easy, but I've been mixing one scoop of Protein powder with plain Greek yogurt for dinner. It's pretty filling (and about 40g protein) and helps with the cravings. Good luck! Heidi -
I brought some soup. My doctor does not want me to have yogurt until days 10-14. I'm currently drinking crystal light trying to keep my mind off the food.

I've tried pro-yo. It's like a protein yogurt, 20g of protein. The flavor I've had is only ok, it just tastes like a frozen protein shake.

whats on your grocery list?
Georgia replied to GENNYOSKINNY's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you ever use Greek yogurt for the dip instead, I'm not up on cals. Does sour cream have less? Also, have you ever tried the 100 cal packs of wholly guacamole ( I actually like the walmart brand better). It is excellent for dipping veggies in and a good fat. Yeah, I do the lower cal lean cuisine or smart one meals a few times a week too. Like 230 cals or so since I'm 3 plus years out. I eat Special K Protein cereal with soy or skim milk ( just enough to "wet" it. some mornings I love mini babybel light cheeses. 50 cals. And sometimes just grab a couple of these for breakfast. -
Buy a powdered protein powder to mix with cold milk and frozen berries in a blender. Eat beans...lentils, etc. I found out about farro. It is high in protein and fiber. Cook like rice, taste good..a little chewy. I add about one half cup of cooked farrow to soup or broth for lunch. Eat Greek yogurt. Hair is my problem too. I take biotin and zinc. Good luck and don't give up. Loosing 60 lbs is better than great hair. Wear baseball hats.

Losing weight preop!?! Help!
Bufflehead replied to LaGueriTaChuLa13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here is what I would do: Do you have a myfitnesspal account? If not, get one. Set your daily caloric intake to 1200, and your ratios to 35% carbs, 30% protein, and 35% fat. Start logging EVERYTHING you eat. Weigh or measure EVERYTHING you eat. Focus on high protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, lower fat cheese, and cottage cheese. Small amounts of beans and lentils for fiber, green veggies. These should be your mainstays. Supplement with small amounts of healthy fats such as nuts, olive oil, and avocados. The higher protein and fat ratios will help you feel a bit more satisfied. That said, you will undoubtedly feel hungry and unsatisfied at times over the next month. You have to push through that. Yes, you are hungry, but it is okay to be hungry given the goal you are working towards. It won't be forever. Being hungry is unpleasant but it is not an emergency. Do not bother logging any exercise or "eating back" exercise calories. This will just slow you down. Good luck! -
I'm so sorry to hear that - that sounds awful. :-( Have you talked to your doctor and/or nutritionist? If not, you should do so right away - hopefully they will have some helpful advice. I honestly don't know if the stomach shrinks, but I can tell you that my fullness levels have changed over time. After the first few days of nausea, I was REALLY hungry for like a week, but I was afraid to eat too much (I didn't want to throw up again). Then I was fine for about a month - not hungry, not full. Now I am starting to feel fuller. So I don't know if the stomach actually shrinks, or if you body/brain just adjusts. But I definitely notice a difference. You might want to try Protein /meal replacement drinks and soft protein-rich foods (ex: Greek yogurt, eggs, etc.) to ensure that you're getting some decent nutrition until you talk to your doctor. That all might go down better than solid foods, and have an easier time working its way around the balloon. And maybe even things like Gatorade to help with hydration. Good luck - I hope you feel better soon!

Why no lobster? I'm allergic, myself, but my favorite meals now are shrimp, crab, scallops, etc. I eat frozen nf/sf yogurt, a small bite or two of a brownie, a Hershey kiss here and there... Difference is, I savor it instead of horsing it down without tasting it. I log it and I stay under my calories, fat and carbs. I don't recommend this if a small bite will set you up for failure, though. I didn't get fat off sweets, so these are not my downfall. You will not see me trying chips or other fatty salty Snacks. That's where my house of cards will collapse.

This is hard. Almost feel like I did right after surgery. 11 months out and getting a little reminder of what surgery felt like. Stomach hurts. Can't drink much at a time. No solid food. Dreading having to get some isopure. But even my syntrax shakes are killing my tummy. Diluted G2, sf Popsicles, if no improvement tomorrow adding isopure for protein. Ugh.... Feel so stinking weak. But working on not getting dehydrated. Fingers crossed I can tolerate some Greek yogurt tomorrow. Need sustenance.

I avoid "ose"es (sugar) unless it is in the veggies or maybe grains, but I did let myself have some frozen yogurt once...George (my sleeve) did not like it.

Ok....here goes: Hello to everyone! I was sleeved on 5/5/13. Starting weight 196, current weight 158. I love my sleeve! I have never had any kind of complication or problem. I think I could tolerate eating anything...Now, if only I liked meat I would be set. I am trying my best to eat some of the nasty stuff every day. My preferred proteins are the protein drinks like Unjury and Premier Protein in vanilla, eggs, cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt. I do like chicken breast grilled or baked (boneless and skinless) but I get tired of it. We are heaving grilled steak for dinner tonight. I hate it but will try to eat an ounce.......

Traveling away from home, what do I need?
lsereno replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I recommend sticking with a line about recent tummy troubles for those that don't want to share sleeve stories. Covers why you can't eat pizza and wings. Just throw that line out there and order the most bland soft thing on the menu or if there is truly nothing that will work, sip your drink and chat everyone up. I also recommend a blender ball cup, Protein powder and some flavoring. I used vanilla Protein Powder, starbucks instant decaf and Water when traveling. Mixed with room temp water, it tastes like a latte. I also packed sugar free drink mixes to blend with water. I had a Protein Drink two to three times per day to get me to protein goals while traveling. Easy protein food choices include fish, yogurt, string cheese, and cottage cheese. Enjoy your trip! I'm not hungry at all, but I don't feel a restriction when eating food ( yogurt, pudding, refried beans etc). I'm keeping my calories between 500-800 and since being in stage two I haven't lost any weight. It's discouraging but I know it will get better. I know I'll start losing again... But it's still discouraging.

who was sleeved Monday Feb 3rd? I want updates!
beme2013 replied to gohelpyourself's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved on 2/4 and feeling really good. I have a hematoma above my large incision causing pain but otherwise good.No nausea or vomiting, sipping well. I am not hungry at all! I've been staying with my parents the last few days and they've been eating hoagies cheesesteaks, donoughts, etc and I'm not even interested. I haven't had a bowl movement but am passing gas. I'm down 16 lbs since I started my 3 day pre-diet on 2/1. I'm 5'9' starting weight was 252. This week is Clear liquids for me , so I've been drinking Propel, Water, tea with honey, Jello, and broth. I'm drinking The Original Protein XL shot 28 grams. It's really good. Next week will be full liquids like pudding, yogurt, Protein shakes, etc. I'm really excited! -
I need help with a horrible stall! Any advice to kick start things?
megansmommy123 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 7 months post op, and have lost 98 pounds. I want so badly to hit that 100 pound mark, but I just cant seem to get there. I've been bouncing the same 2 pounds back and forth since early December. I know most of it was Christmas. I ate more than I should, and ate things I shouldn't have. But for the last 2 weeks I have really been back on track, and still nothing! I got down to 1 tenth away from my goal, then will gain a pound again. I went back to the basics, and started tracking all my food intake. I am staying between 900-1100 calories per day, drinking lots of Water, at least 80 grams of Protein per day, staying under my limits for carbs and sugar. I just don't know what I am doing wrong? I know my exercise specialist said this was to be expected at this stage, and it happens to everyone. He said you wont see a loss for awhile, but you are still losing inches. And it will cycle back and forth every month. He said to only worry if I don't see a loss for 2 months in a row. But I'm getting close to that 2 month mark, and still no loss. Any ideas on how to break a massive stall? Here's my food for the last 2 days, any advice? Breakfast: 2 envelopes sugar free hot cocoa 1 dannon light and fit greek yogurt Lunch: 1/2 cup raw carrots 1/4 cup raw snap peas 1/4 cup hummus Snack: Isopure Protein shake Dinner: 4 ritz crackers 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter 1/4 cup cottage cheese Totals: Calories: 927 Carbs 32 Fat 32 Protein 93 Sugar 30 Breakfast: Sugar free Cappuccino Tomato juice Dannon light and fit greek yogurt Snack: Isopure protein shake Lunch: Grilled shrimp greek olives and feta Dinner: Grilled Mahi Mahi cooked carrots and snow peas Calories: 959 Carbs 66 Fat 23 Protein 120 Sugar 40 -
Foods you can't tolerate since surgery
McButterpants replied to kmiller13137's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Plain Water - have no idea why, but it's like swallowing liquid sandpaper. Greek yogurt - I wasn't a huge fan prior to surgery, but I can't stand the texture. I can have a dollop, like on top of my Mexican bake instead of sour cream, but to eat a sweet Greek Yogurt out of the container, I can't do it. Other than that, I have been able to tolerate anything I've thrown at my sleeve. -
