Hey all...my surgery is August 13th. It's possible I may need to fly out of state for a week-long business trip 2- 2 1/2 weeks post-op. The business trip doesn't involve any physical work or anything, but I'm nervous about leaving town so soon after surgery. I'm worried about what stage I'll be at in my diet (pureed food or mushies I'd imagine?) and how I'll work around that while out of town, and also about being uncomfortable on the flight. What do you guys think? I have no idea how I'll be feeling or the kind of energy I'll have at that stage. I have to make a decision soon so travel arrangements can be made. Do you think it's reasonable to make a trip like this so soon after surgery?

Business Trip 2 Weeks Post-Op
Texarkolina replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am in the same situation of needing to travel for work pretty soon after surgery. My surgeon said I should not get on a plane for 6 weeks if at all possible. Driving is ok but only if I stop every hour. You may want to ask your surgeon's office and see what they advise. -
Weight Management (Weight Loss/gain)
DaniG replied to sharoncarrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 6 lbs on my final weigh in and my insurance company ok'ed my surgery. They know why we need the surgery. I kinda went crazy and ate everything I wanted bc I knew I wouldn't be able to eat my faves again. Now I'm 2 weeks out and 21 lbs lighter. So happy. Good luck to you on your journey. -
Hey guys! I haven't been on here in forever, but I'm just trying to see if anyone has had a pregnancy post op gastric sleeve, what your experience was, how much did you gain? Or, if you are pregnant, how are you currently feeling and how has your pregnancy been so far? I'm 13.5 weeks. This will be my third baby, first since having the sleeve done. I'm 15 months post op, and it was a surprise. I was actually on the mirena IUD and got pregnant.. oops.. but things happen. So far I have lost 4 lbs. I'm on prenatals, plus b12. I'm also on antibiotics my entire pregnancy because I've had two UTIs since getting pregnant and one kidney infection, not sure why... I also start mekena shots in a few weeks. (My daughter was preemie.) I was just wondering how everyone's pregnancies went post op, how was it different from previous if you had babies before the sleeve. Hey everyone!so I start my pre-op liquid diet in 10 days and the closer and closer I get to the liquid diet the more scared I get about leaving behind a whole lifetime of food.i feel like I panicked the past week and tried to get in every last fast food restaurant I could think of because I have this fear that I'm going to miss it so much post op.ive been mentally preparing myself to let go of food since I started the journey of getting the sleeve, but the closer I get to the surgery date the more freaked out I get myself about not ever being able to have these foods again!i keep reminding myself to stay focused on the positives but and I am!but I was just wondering if anyone has felt the way I'm feeling lately!thanks for reading:)

So I'm officially one week out as of today. Have been able to hit Fluid and Protein goals since day 3, and only took pain meds for first two days. Went back to work on day 4. I feel very lucky and blessed as it seems there are many who've had a rough go of it in the first few weeks. I'm down 21 lbs since preop, with 5lbs lost since sx. Not too concerned yet as I know I was very bloated on fluids in the hospital. Doc gave me a good report and even told me to start purees early if I wanted (org told start purees at 2 weeks). Can't wait to see where I'm at in a month! HW: 374 1/15/16 SW: 263 11/10/16 CW: 258 11/17/16 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm Not Hungry On The Pre-Op Diet.
Argnewcan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 8 of the pre-op diet and I am not hungry at all. Very weird. Today I drank a Vitamin Water Zero and a RockStar no calorie but ate nothing until dinner. Then I had 3 ounces chicken and some veggies as directed. I've already had to toss my favorite jeans because they were falling down. If this keeps up, I will be buying new pants every two weeks. It's a nice problem to have but hard to absorb mentally. My doctor said my goal weight was 105 at 5 feet tall. No one weighs 105 in my universe! I am also "nesting" like pregnant women do. This house is going to be so clean and tidy! Wednesday is the big day. Can't weight, umm wait! Freudian typing! -

Doing A "i'm Getting Surgery" Dance!
SweetSusie1 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so excited and nervous! Walking into my appointment today, I almost turned around! I was so nervous of the "what if's".... What if I'm too big for surgery... what if he thinks I'm not a good fit for the surgery I want... what if he looks at me and tells me I'm not trying hard enough with other options (my mom's suggestion: "Why don't you exhaust all of your other options first honey!") What if he likes everything and first surgery date avalible is in December... what if!!! Thankfully my husband was by my side and I'm too chicken to tell him "lets turn around and hide!" What if nothing! ***Happy "I'm getting surgery" dance!!!!**** (never thought I would be happy about going into surgery willingly! needles *cringe*) He approved me for surgery, he said two weeks of shakes/ less than 1,000 calories a day and surgery on June 13th!!! Bonus: Work is good with the days off, kids are going to hang with my mom and my honey is going to be by my side (he is my rock!) On a side note: The girls in my office are always having some sort of weight loss something going on... I think the current thing is $5 to weigh in each week for 6 weeks and at the end the "biggest loser" gets the "pot". They have always invited me to join in, but at twice their weight I've never been interested in everyone knowing my actual weight. Today they told me they didn't want me to join... that they all knew they would lose!! (this actually makes me happy!) Happy Tuesday everyone! -
Excited But Scared! ????????
Shaniceh01 replied to Shaniceh01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my process in April and I'm finally finished with neccessary appointments, I meet the surgeon tomorrow so hopefully it will be submitted this week and as for six month required supervised diet it really just depends on what type of insurance you have, some require it and some don't. I have la care thru Medicaid and they required six consecutive months of weightloss attempts documented by your pcp (old or new) I had all but two which I just completed, all the other appointments plus school keeps me busy so time flys by. Good luck to you -
Bariatric Advantage
Scooby_Who replied to Ready for the change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor sells that brand and makes patients use them for the pre-op two week liquid diet. IMHO, they are disgusting. Every brand I've tried with comparable nutrition is much, much better tasting. Just my .02. -
Psychologist And Surgeron Appointments
lydiajohnston611 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay because I'm the type of person looks to have my ducks in a row. I have my psychologist and surgeron appointments next week and I really like to have a rough idea of what's going to happen. I know each person has there own experience but I figure/assume there is some basics that they all follow. So if someone or someones can give me an idea of is going to happen...I would love it! Thanks. The psychologist told me that my appointment will be about 3-4 hours. Is that normal? I don't think I can talk about myself for that long...I'm actually quite boring! lol Then I figure the surgeron is a meet and greet type appointment and then will discuss why I'm here and what surgery would be best for me kind of thing. Any help would be lovely! Thanks y'all! -
Nauseated During Preop Diet....is It Normal
dhalpine replied to grapeape1706's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes sorbital in fruits can and will upset your stomach, my dietician said no veggies or fruits during this pre op diet.. My first week I was on my high protein diet, my body was going through withdrawls (stomach pains), but then it subsided. -
How Weight Did Everyone Lose On Preop Diet
adorkbl replied to canderson04's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is about sticking to it and shrinking the liver. Everyone is different. And not all preops are the same. I did an Atkins like preop the month prior and lost 20 pounds. This time around I am on a self imposed preop and lost 5 last week and hope to lose 5 more this week. (only 2 weeks) Sounds like you are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!! -
Hi, I am a newbie and looking for support. I just got my approval letter last week and I am scheduled to go back to see Dr on July 16 to start me pre-op diet. I am very nervous and excited at the same time. Looking for advice and any information that you are willing to provide. Thanks

I'm a bunch of things right now cuz I just realized its 2 weeks away . I'm having problems with smoking I can't seem to quite
-
just realized that the surgeon I am planning on using only does surgeries at the hospital that I am required to use the third week of the month. Because of speaking engagements that I am committed to that means at least November! And that would be the week of Thanksgiving. Have any of you changed surgeons midstream?

Frustrated Urhhh ... Venting..
DivaK replied to babygirl_sandy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be o.k. If I were you I would calmly speak to the person at your doctors office and state what you were told and the name of the person at medicare who told you the information. I would ask if she could submit the information since there is obviously not a submission date that will be sent to her. As stated above, we still have at least another month before school starts back. I went back to work the next week. I was back to work after 8 calendar days (which included weekends) and really I could have been back to work by day four. So it will be o.k. -

Very Scared Newbie From Uk
Gene1970 replied to danic-j's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all Welcome!!!! I think we were all terrified at one point... then we learned a little more about the surgery and the success of others and started to feel more comfortable about the surgery. From time to time pre-op I questioned myself and was very nervous about having the surgery. I'm 8 weeks post op now and am so glad I went through with it. My advice to you is to spend some time on the boards, read, learn, ask questions, make new friends and you too will soon see that terrified feeling go away. I have lost 60lbs since starting this journey... some pre-op, some post op and I would have never been able to do it without the surgery. I feel so much better and can see a huge difference. Good luck with your surgery on the 4th -
Question About Diet
SoccerMomma73 replied to Mama2girls's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was private pay and as long as I had medical records showing I'd been obese for a while, that's all that was needed. Went to my first seminar late October, had surgery 6 weeks later...but the doc did require some weight loss in the mean time. -
I Got A Surgery Date, September 18Th!
chunkypudding replied to chunkypudding's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! It has already started to blur together- sleep study, weight checks, psych visits, etc... Will be nice to get to go a few weeks with no doctors at all. After all, life keeps going on around me. Isn't that why I'm doing this? If all goes well, I should lose most of my weight by spring next year. I can't wait for swimming, fishing, hiking, and camping again!
