How to get Insurance to cover Plastic Surgery
KDM74 replied to Tinka504's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
If you call your insurance company, they can tell you if your plan even covers the surgeries at all, and what it will take to MAYBE get them covered. My insurance does cover all skin removal surgeries, however I have to supply documentation of debilitating infection or skin irritation from my PCP for 3-6 months (depending on the area) with photographs, and for my stomach, it also has to have caused a cellulitis infection that required antibiotics. And they won't even consider it until I am at least 6 months out from a stable weight. My bypass is on Monday so I am planning ahead. I am a medical coder, so here are the CPT codes for the most common procedures so you can ask specifically what is covered: 15830 - panniculectomy (this is NOT a tummy tuck, insurance will not cover TT because it is cosmetic. This is only for skin removal, not muscle tightening or changing belly button location) 15832 - thigh lift (inner thigh) 15833 - leg lift (lower leg) 15834 - hip lift (outer thigh/hip) 15835 - buttock lift 15836 - arm lift (upper arm) All of the "lifts" are actually termed "removal of excess skin" in the particular area. For a full lower body lift, your surgeon may combine several of the above procedures for billing. Your insurance may only cover the panniculectomy and not the butt lift, etc. For your purposes you would want to ask about 15832. They should also be able to tell you what the average price in your area is if they do not cover it. Good luck! -

My Dr. Scott Steinbreg is the best, what was funny to me ,was when I went back after my surgery. Dr. Steinberg forgot how I looked before the surgery and it was so funny to me, so I showed him a picture of me before , lol, that mean surgery worked wonderfully, lol😎😎😎😎😎. I haven't been sick, now at the beginning it's up to you, stay strong . Go to your follow up appt. and you will be all right. I always lotion my body and It's amazing that I don't have any hanging skin. My primary Dr. was amaze because I didn't have any, she had me to take all of my clothes off and turn around, now that was funny to me too. Because I look totally different to her too. I'm happy and I thank Dr. Steinberg and his Staff , I love all of guys with Love 🤗🤩

I'm so sorry. Did you see you PCP for any of your issues due to extra skin? That should be fuel enough. Some insurances require the pannis to extend past the pubic bone. I would call and ask specifically why you were denied and what the requirements are, then get a new surgeon and dispute the ruling. Sorry I don't have any recommendations for your area. Hugs.

I hope you are all doing better. Let me add my scary steroid experience. I was out in the sun and heat for 5 days. I got a bad rash everywhere the sunscreen was. Ok... Went to dr. She gave me a steriod shot and sent me (and my 7yo son) on my merry way. Within 20 minutes by the time I was on the Interstate, I went into anaphlactic shock from teh shot. I was able to get off at teh next exit, park, call 911 and get picked up by the ambulance safely (at least as safe as you can be when you have become a hive and tried to scratch all your skin off). Thank the Good Lord there was only minimal respitory reaction. This is weird because while I've never taken steroids much in my life, I've NEVER had such a reaction (even the rash reaction to the heat / sunscreen) before I had my WLS surgery. No clue if it is related and my body is just different now than it was, or what. But your post title caught my attention and hit a chord.

Question about the constipation post surgery...
mandi78 replied to blahblahblah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does the colace ususally work that quickly....within half an hour? Also, does it just bring on a normal BM or does it cause the cramping and loose, watery stools that some other laxatives cause? Thanks. -
Welcome Angels! Yes I can tell you definitely will have the motivation to get this through. I am definitely the same body type as you. Was born big..9lbs 4 and never looked back. I don't even remember weighing 100 pounds as a kid..lol. Anyways..I was at 314 at the time of surgery and although it's taken a long time for me to loose 100 pounds it certainly doesn't have to for you. With diabetes too it's even more vital you get control of this as soon as you can. Anyways welcome again. Ask as many questions as you want. Research, research, research. There's ALOT to know about band surgery before being banded. Take care girl..we are with you. Di

41 BMI what are my chances of approval
mayadurga replied to kgranite79's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Your insurance company looks at your beginning weight for your BMI rating. My BMI was 42. I had a 6 month weight loss with my Doctor. My current BMI when everything was submitted to insurance is 38. But, again the insurance looks at beginning weight. If they require six months....make sure you go to your Doc every month and that your doctor states in their dictation 'obesity' and 'lap band' and 'weight loss' so your insurance sees you are working on loosing weight. I also had to have a sleep apnea study, psyhological evaluation, meetings with a registered dietitian. Lots of hoops but it was not as difficult as it first appeared. Another tip..make sure you really like your doctor and your lap band surgeon because it is a 'long term' relationship. -
Do your stomach get smaller? As you lose the weight? or just the Skin sag? I know this might be TMI (To much info) but i really miss seeing my Private..lol Will my stomach get flatter? Thats the part of my body i hate the most.

I am VERY excited. I have been home for 3 days. Surgery was early the 12th. And I feel GREAT!! The pain was never really more than very uncomfortable. The liquid Percocet though bad tasting, I am sure I have paid for worse, did the trick. Only had one incident of nausea, they gave me some meds thru the IV, and it was gone. Have not had that since. I would say muscle soreness is the pain I feel. Pulling from my collar bone down to my incisions. Which are very small...and will heal up nicely--then a cute tattoo to cover them :frown: Food...so far I have been on clear liquids. Though Monday I was really hungry. Eat my arm hungry. So I braved some SF Jello. mushed it in my mouth...was fine. I also went back to my EAS Low Carb Protein drink. Cant drink a bunch of it, but sure helps get that edge off. Finally I HAD to have something from the next step... so loose mashed potatoes, not all buttered up..just fairly bland and not thick. They really helped. Ate REALLY slow--this is a challenge. lol I guess I am so used to shovelling in the food. So I do have to think don't rush...don't rush...relax. And a few bites and I have tamed it. So that too is very exciting to me. Let's see what else might you guys want to know. Can't think of anything else...lost 10 more lbs since coming home! Whaaat you say!!?? YES. Crazy! Can't seem to get my darn Ticker to be on here (not real good at this blog thingy) but it makes me 278/266/255 goal...yet to be determined really. Size 10/12 would be good. lol Can I say--NO REGRETS!! NONE NADA ZILTCH! A healthier me is coming. More energy, more umph, fun with the family and fitting in the #%$^ seats on planes and at the movies..oh and at the kids schools! UGH! More soon.

It's Been 1 Year since my Lap Band Surgery...
MaryBnSC replied to sanscarpaci's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Wow - awesome post! Not too wordy. Not too emotional! Just right! It's the encouragement I need. You said "Best of all, I feel normal. Most of you will know what I mean by this. I don't worry about the size and strength of chairs. I don't measure myself against others to see if I am the biggest person in the room. I just...feel...normal. " Powerful words. We ALL have done those things! I believe that when I am comfortable in my own skin, when I know I'm looking good (and I mean "put together", not anything snooty), it completely allows me to be unselfish and concentrate on others! Sometimes when we are going through this battle of the weight, we might feel guilty, like we're doing it out of vanity. Sorry charlie. IMO, it's the exact opposite. And only someone else who's been there can understand how completely self centered and self absorbing it can be to constantly - know matter where you are or what you are doing - be thinking "do they see how much my butt hangs over this chair? (ETC)". I can't wait until I hit that 'normal' feeling! (Of course, I am still 5'10", so I'm most likely always going to be the tallest woman in the room - but I'm ok with that!) Thanks! Mary -
Wow, good question. I didn't have a bmi in mind for a goal...only a size and weight. Let me calculate my bmi now.... wow, 24.5...and you are wanting what? Hmmm....don't let that BMI fool you. Just get to where you feel good in the skin you are in!

New to the forums and post-weightloss - Struggling.
howdybooth replied to Jes_Lynn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jes Lynn, so proud of you! As you start reading the different post you will find your success at loosing so much weight isn't the norm - so pat yourself on the back. Now it's time to work on your self esteem! Go see a counselor for cognitive behavioral therapy! You've been through a lot in your life and you haven't even lived that long. Therapy is a great way to help you overcome some of your problems.....as for dating......once you meet someone that you feel comfortable with removing your clothes he will only see the beauty of you. I've been married for 26 years to a great guy - one who married me when I was a size 8 and still found me sexy at size 26 and STILL finds me sexy at size 10 - with all my saggy skin LOL! Then, start investigating a way to get yourself tightened up........look at medical schools, newly practicing plastic surgeons.........you never know who mighr be willing to help a confident, successful young woman! Good luck - I'd love to here about your journey! -
Stop Askiing How Much Wieght I Lost
honk replied to hookieluv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are loosing really GREAT!!!! I wish I lost at that pace. I agree with previous poster. I wish I had the guts to ask really personal questions back. I was dieting and exercising preband and had lost about 100 pounds. I had an older woman yesterday ask me how much I had lost. She told me her daughter told her about a girl at the gym who had lost "So much weight". So I told her 170 pounds. They get so excited. Kind of wish the gym had taken before picture, I might have been able to get some money out of this if they used me in Before and After advertising! -
I'm new to the forums but I'm also nervous about the surgery. I am 245 pounds and 5'8. I would like to ideal be 185-190. I know I shouldn't have a set weight goal but I don't want to lose too much weight or have loose skin. I need a peace of mind about this I'm scheduled for Surgery February 20. I do go to the gym now and do workout to possible build muscles. Also vitamins for the rest of my life???

Very slow weight loss?
astarwalker replied to astarwalker's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
HI Monica. So after talking to several nutritionists specialized in bariatrics, and researching, I now made peace with the rate of my weight loss. Somebody here posted a table of weight ranges according to age and height. This also helped. I am 61 will be 62 in two months. Have had already major weightloss with my lap band years ago, so this is my second surgery. All nutritionists said these two details are a big factor that will affect my weight loss. I have now lost a total of 33 pounds in 3 months. My lab tests just came in and I am in the absolute normal range, which means no more cholesterol. No more diabetes. No more high blood pressure. This in itself is already my great victory! I now [emoji817] % fir sure that I will loose the rest 20-25 Kgs (40-45 pounds). If it takes a month longer that is also fine. My full bonus is already here, I am medicine free!! I feel great (except for the occasional gas which sometimes, drives me and my hubby crazy kkk) and hope everyone here has great success with their journey. We have all carried our weight too long with all the pain and I suffering that it involved. Now we are all getting a second lease. This in itself is a great thing. So let us all enjoy the ride. be kind and loving to ourselves and also patient with our bodies. They have endured a lot already. Lots if live to everyone. getting banded on 25th
vlp1968 replied to dylanthomas99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alchohol has lots of calories as well as decreasing your inhibitions. You may be more likely to eat something you shouldn't. You will need to get used to taking very small bites and chewing really well. It takes a little practice. When loosing, it is reccomended by lots of doctors to eat low fat and low carb. Lots of lean protien. Hope this helps and good luck! -
Attention!!! Any July 2005 Bandsters
hopefull replied to abrightfuture's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on July 22, 2005 and I am now down to 259. I am mostly in 18-20W size down from a high of 24, some 26-28W. Today I squeezed on a pair of size Liz Claiborne size 18 stretch capris.....I can zip and button and breathe standing up...sitting is a bit of a squeeze. I am going to wear these even though they are tight (I work at home or else I wouln't do this in public, although some women wear clothes this tight, just not me), because I need to remind myself to not pick...That is my issue. It is lots better but not as good as I would like it. I want to loose 10 lbs in the next 2 and a half weeks..I know that is a bit of a stretch but I do get a fill next week...am thinking of going on liquids for a bit longer. I need these capris for trip to California on the 7th of October. One or two PBs...one with french fries from MCD's and one from chx. Exercise program needs to be improved. ps...my band start weight was 292, I think -
Valentine’s Day Question: Has Weight Loss Surgery Improved Your Relationship?
Vanessa G replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My got worse before it got better. Maybe a bit of jealousy or not knowing how to approach the new me. The MGB made me want it more but the more I wanted it the less I got it. After a talk with hubby, things got better. Skin starting to sag from weight loss but I have more energy and confidence than ever. -
I had my sleeve done May 28, 2012 in Mexico. The best thing I have ever done!!!! My starting weight was 255lbs ( my heaviest in Jan 2012) I was down to 238 by surgery and now am at 180lbs!!!! So happy to be only 40lbs to my goal weight!!! I started wearing xxl shirts and size 40 jeans. Today I put on size 31 jeans and can wear Lg and some Med shirts!!! I am stoked still. Lol. I do worry about losing too much weight thou. I had originally hoped to be at 120lbs, but since my cloths are already smaller than I anticipated, I kind of think I would be too small at that weight. I had watched one utube video and the lady had met her goal and then kept losing. That freaked me out a bit, and am not sure how you can prevent that. I find that food does not taste the same anymore and I'm not interested in sweet food or greasy food anymore. Milk DOES NOT sit well at all and even though I feel like vomiting after eating any dairy, I can't throw anything up. My brother had the same surgery 3 days prior to mine, and he vomits a lot. I'm not sure if it is normal that I can't. ( I had the flu, and even though felt like I had to, I just couldn't). I also have had a lot of hair loss which bothers me like crazy. I find it hard to eat protein too, as it just doesn't taste good, and sits heavy:( so that may be the cause of that. I find I forget to eat until I start feeling light headed at the end of my day. I very rarely get hungry, but get heart burn ( acid reflux) all the time, which is made worse after I eat:/ I still have to take antacids to help with those symptoms. I can't wait to be able to get the extra skin removed. Lol but have been wrapping regularly to tighten the skin up. So far it is working amazingly!!! My problem area that seems to bug me the most is my inner thighs that reminds me of an extra " butt"... Lol. That is the only area that is not responding as well to the wraps:/

I will agree with all that has been said here. I have the same problem with my mother she is allways complaining about my dad. I finally asked her the other day how much weight he needs to loose in regards to his bad knees. She did not say a word at all. All she talks about is him going to see the fat lady's while he is at the pool swiming. I have not told here or my side of the family the we have both had the surgery and doing well. I think I will wait until I go and see them the next time and then drop the bomb shell then. Chris

Not drinking before/during/after meals...
annjones replied to Carriedaway78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
After surgery I would set a timer after I ate and was really strict about the 30 min before and 1 hour after. But now I've loosed up some. It is really hard, especially when you feel like your dying of thirst. My doc told me to listen to my body. A little Water won't hurt. Just be careful. Talk to your doc and ask him what he thinks. One thing I try to do to satisfy that "no drinking during a meal thing" is to eat something very wet....watermelon, yogurt, etc. I think in the long run, once you have wiped out old bad habbits and start to replace them with healthier, lapband friendly habits...things can be eased up on some. -
5 Days Post-Op
waitingpatiently replied to waitingpatiently's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Unfortunately mine was not covered by insurance???ž I think if a policy covers plastic surgery at all (many DONT), they very in what they will consider as medically necessary. Most require documented back problems, rashes, hernias things of this nature as well as the sagging skin must hang below the pubic area. Some even have a clause saying a specific weight loss that is required.
