hi all. i didn't know where to turn so i came here. We found out less than 10 hours ago that my husbands SA came back with a zero sperm count...zero how can it be zero?! i am a mess. they called my phone while i was at work and i had to leave early for i could not function. i cried for three hours before my husband got home...i didn't know how i was ever going to tell him.He was diagnosed with low testosterone about four years ago and has been doing hormone replacement therapy this whole time. We have been through a lot the last three years with him also having an 'unknown' illness and we got that taken care of about six months ago and decided it was time to ttc. Now i don't know if that will even happen. he wants a child of his own so badly. i am afraid that this is going to send him into a depression. two yeasr ago i found out i had pcos and was told that i needed to lose a lot of weight. So i had the lapband and have lost about 80 lbs and have my pcos under control. its like now i dont know what to do..my life has been consumed and focused on having a baby... i cant stop crying. we go see our obgyn on friday to get a referral and she wants to go over our counts in person. i am not functioning very well right now and feel so overwhelmed and sad. thanks for listening... trish

I am almost 10 weeks and got an unfill. I had already gained 7-13 lbs. maybe more. I started freaking out having anxiety attacks about how much weight I am gaining. I am getting big fast. I was 170 lbs I had lost 80lbs total 2 years post opt, and I hadnt been that small since I was a kid. I shopped all the time and love all the clothes and my size. I was finally a 10-12 I'm 5"8". We have been married 4 years so I guess it's time. Anyways, I am reading now and I see all these comments about how others didnt get a complete unfil. I kinda wish I didn't get it all unfilled. I was just so hungry before my unfil. I hope I can lose it all. I understand how how you feel about gaining the weight. I already finding my pants not closing.

Any one Banded & Pregnant?
nerdine_mit replied to gaut's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! Gaut, I am banded since Aug/06 and pregnant. You don't have to wait years until you start trying for a baby. I am currently about 10 wks into my pregnancy, and I just had my first defill. I was at 9.5 cc and now I am at 9. I haven't had morning sickness with this pregnancy, and I don't think I will. (I just had my first lunch and dinner at this new restriction today and boy can I eat way more than yesterday.) I have a 2 year old, in daycare, so I've had the stomach flu about 3 times since being banded. Infact I just got over it yesterday. You feel pressure when your vomitting but, it is ok. Thinking about it, and worrying is worse then the episodes. I do know another pregnant bandster who had such terrible morning sickness that her band twisted. So you can have complications. As soon as you are pregnant I would talk to your clinic. If you don't have morning sickness you can go in for your defills as you feel you need them. If you do have morning sickness, you may want to completely defill. It is a choice only you and your Dr. can make together. You may be wondering, when do you know you can start trying? For me, I had my pregnancy target weight of 165 lbs. Regardless even before my surgery we were going to start trying May 2007, so if I didn't make my target by then I was still going to try anyway. I was 152 lbs by May 2007. (I have lost 75 lbs since being banded.) I hope this helps. -

So, DOS was 10/17 and I'm down 17lbs. Decided to cut 11" off my hair, go a little darker, and start my new life with a new look! My clothes fit a little bit looser and I didn't see much of a change until this... Yay me!!!

I've lost over 200 pounds and I feel incredible. I'm so happy I decided to have this life changing Operation done. For many years I felt that I gave up and I was passed the point of no return finally after having the surgery it gave me my life back now I work out every day I eat right and I am so excited that I can go into regular department stores and get the clothes that I want, exercise the way I want, it truly is amazing. whenever you feel that you can't do it anymore you can't give up. One thing that I really regret is that I gave up and lost 10 years of my life feeling that I wasn't good enough for anything. I can't get those years back but from this point on I look at it as a new chapter in my life to where I can move on and really enjoy the things that I've always -
Soreness around incision site and stomach 10 days post op?
Heatherhere1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The last couple of days I have much soreness. All activities of daily life. Bending over bad. Im still sleeping flat on my back unable to turn due to pain. Im really taking it easy. I have to. So Im wondering if anyone has experience with this? Im hopeful that it will go away. I also wonder if my new stomach hurts? You know inside my body? -
*putting on nurse hat* 10% weight loss is considered acute weight loss. In acute weight loss, the fat mostly comes off the internal organs, making laparoscopic surgery safer. Fat is slippery (think raw chicken breasts) and manipulating fatty organs leaves an increased risk for injury. Also, a fatty liver is friable (crumbles easily) and can be deadly. This is why my surgeon requires a 10% weight loss.... I can't speak for others. Hope that helps!

I've also read that losing 10% of your body weight does a number of things. It can bring down blood pressure, stress on heart and lungs. I also agree that some doctors want to see how focused and committed you are and realize that this takes work. So if you are willing to put in the work and lose 10% of your body weight you'll put in the work to succeed at surgery. Sheena :-)

What is the best tasting Protein drink out there?
JoiaRox commented on judy3747's blog entry in Blog 58681
I bought the store brand of whey protein powder from Trader Joe's - only $10 for 14 servings, and both chocolate and vanilla are really good! I've been mixing the powder with water. -
Hunger 4 days post op. Normal?
PorkChopExpress replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DEFINITELY makes me full. I'm supposed to have 1 Protein (1oz), 1 Tbsp of vegetable and 1 Tbsp of fruit at a meal. But the thing is, those meatballs weigh 1.3oz each basically, so I end up having to not eat my fruit, because I get full just on the meatball and a Tbsp of potato...but that's okay! I get my fruit when I have chili and four cut green Beans from a can...that leaves me room for fruit. Or I'll have fruit with my egg. But right now I'm on a real meatball and potato kick, I love that combo. I'm the kind of guy who can eat the same thing over and over again if I like it, I don't need a ton of variety. Also, I bought a tub of the pre-made mashed potatoes in the deli section and then later realized that if I only eat it a Tbsp at a time, I'm gonna end up throwing most of it out before it goes bad. So I'm trying to use as much of that as I can. I'll still probably only get halfway through it, and next time I'm going to buy a box of the powdered potatoes, and then just make it as I go. Cheaper that way. Just one of those things where I was still in the old mindset of portions and didn't even think that it would be WAY too much potato for me to get through in a week or so. We'll see how far I get on it But yeah, liquids go down pretty quick and they pass through the stomach into the intestine pretty quick, but even chewing up my food to puree consistency, it stays in the stomach longer. They said to wait 45 minutes after eating to drink again, and when I do that I still feel like I've got food in there and can't drink that much at a time. I think it helps "grease the wheels" to help the food go into the intestine though, because after 10 minutes or so I am drinking fine. So far, so good. But after almost four weeks of nothing but liquids, I REALLY appreciate having something with flavor I enjoy and texture, and the need to chew! And I have to say, it is bewildering but also kind of awesome that I hardly need anything to feel full. My food expenses have been annihilated by this surgery -
If what you are eating is going straight through you, your system is telling you it is not ready for it yet. I was not able to eat eggs or fish until I was about 8'weeks post op. It was just too heavy for my stomach. And as I introduced food I had to introduce only 1 new food a very two days so I could identify the reaction. I truly just focused on my protein shakes, to ensure I got the protein and allowed my stomach and system to guide me back to food. I am almost 18 months post op and will be going for tummy tuck Nov 10. Trust me when I say, you will go back to being able to eat almost everything you could before, and you will crave the things that you shouldn't have, and you eat something that makes you dump, see it as a great reminder to why you went through all you have. Also when you go out to eat, no matter how tempting, stick to safe food, like veggies, and lean meats. Best of luck to you.

my 3 week stall is annoying me
Djmohr replied to trishrnyoung's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Honestly the best thing you can do is stick to the plan. I have had many many stalls over the last 19 months. In the beginning I tried all kinds of things to break the stall. The reality is, your body needs that time to adjust itself. I personally would not try eating carbs for a day because once you start eating them your body craves them. Just stick to the plan. I also have been on heavy narcotics since June and the combination of the narcotics and a high Protein diet cause me to have issues with constipation. I started taking a stool softener with laxative (stool softener plus) twice daily and now I go pretty regular. At least every other day and sometimes every day. It is normal to feel frustrated but don't let it get the best of you. Also you really really have to focus on getting at least 48 oz. o Water in your system, it will help with weight loss and constipation. Obviously getting your protein in helps with weight loss and healing. Hang in there! -
My Journey - musings of a food junkie
Andrew318 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Today is T minus 10 days to surgery and Day 1 of the pre op diet. My Doc prescribed a low carb max 1000 calories pre op diet with the suggestion of protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a light dinner. I had to take the scouts camping tonight so I did my best to adhere to the diet. I did the protien shake for breakfast and lunch. For dinner we cooked beef and potato burritos. I only had one, which is very challenging for me. They tasted delicious but I was also hungry. I also packed some veggies and has them as a snack. I tracked it all in myfitnesspal and came out at 747 calories. Not to shabby. Day 1 down, onto Day 2. -
I have to share my excitment! I was banded in July at True Results in Houston. I've had 4 fills now. The first 3 fills I was only given .5 cc. I was under the impression that that's all they would do at True Results, so imagine my surpise yesterday... The nurse asked me how my hunger level was in between meals... I told her a 6 (out of 10).. so she gave me a 1 full cc! I'm now at 7.2 cc. Feeling the restriction now .. hoping it stays like this!! Much love and happiness to all

Wow thanks for that I am a 22 and hope to be a 10 in 6 months......this site has helped me get through so many low points since my surgery. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

How many carbs should I be eating per week?
blizair09 replied to shelleys goal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a low carb diet for six months pre-op (and lost 99 pounds by surgery day), so I am continuing to keep my carbs below 20 even as I progress through these stages (clear liquids, full liquids, purees, soft, etc.). The downside in that is that there are often limited low/no carb options early on. For instance, I am really on full liquids from Day 10 until Day 21 because all of the new items that you can have at Day 14 are full of carbs (no sugar applesauce, ripe banana, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc.). My plan is to go right back to my meat and non-starchy vegetables diet with the help of the sleeve's restriction once my new tummy can tolerate those things. This approach is obviously not for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me. Carbs are my addiction and enemy, and I am going to have to minimize them as much as possible for the rest of my life. I'm sure you'll get some other helpful suggestions from other posters, but I'd recommend that you ask your nutritionist as well. Good luck! -
Congrats on your fabulous success! I love the shirt you were wearing in your size 10 shot. Super cute!

I'm so Disgusted!!!
bigtom1948 replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's the real problem about medicine in the USA you have no idea of what the real value of the proceedures being done. The physicians quote an inflated price knowing that the evil insurance companies are going to slash the payment to 25% or less of the billed service. Most of the insured folks have deductibles and co-pays so the insurance companies pay even less than that. You must also keep in mind that the AVERAGE cost of 80/20 coverage with a $1,000.00 deductible policy is around $10-14K anually with most of the paid for by your employer as deferred wages while your actual wages creep up at just under inflation. It's been that way here in the USA for 30+ years ever since insurance companies followed Medicare's lead in the Diagnostic Related Grouping (DRG) payment scheme. Doctors real incomes on a per patient basis have been going down while insurance profits have skyrocketed. That's why most PCP's see 8 patients an hour just to break even.Yepper, the USA has the best healthcare in the world (icy sarcasm here, not my real belief) I wouldn't mind paying the physician/surgeon a fair amount, but what is that? Who knows.... Sorry if this ofends anyone. It's not a political statement. The simple truth is that we are not getting what we are paying for the services we are buying when all the costs are considered. And, the self pay people are the ones getting hauled over the coals the most in the whole system. Nuff said..
