Question about being "finished" with weight loss
MSWDiet replied to kat77's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I perceive my smaller self as fat. This is fairly common among many of my wls friends. For me it's grounded in the fear of slowly regaining weight. I'm on a diet for life because just a pound a year will result in obesity. At a size 2/4 at stores like GAP, I measure myself against size 0 jeans from American Eagle because it's what fit when I made my goal. I know that sounds crazy. But, any one who sews knows today's sizes have been altered. Vanity sizing makes what I call a two today an international standard size twelve. I didn't feel fat when I was obese but I'm struggling to get and keep my body fat percentage around 18% to feel normal. I'm no athlete but I want to be lean as an athlete. The low end of the normal range makes good sense. To me it means good health. Body fat and lean muscle mass are in my opinion more meaningful than bmi. Be strong, fit and healthy. Never malnourished, frail and under fed. Sustained good health is more important than the numbers we use to measure success. -
Your body is literally in shock from surgery. It's trying to figure out what the crap you did to it, lol. And it will feel somewhat weird for a while, as all of your organs and bones and muscles try to adjust. I was on my period when I had surgery and I ended up bleeding for two weeks, then didn't have a period for over a month...when my doc put me back on my BC pills, things started to straighten out. Major surgery like the sleeve is a pretty large trauma to the body. Things will straighten out!! As long as you know you aren't pregnant, you're fine.

In the first few days of my new life...
klo319 replied to hcwild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the same day too and am counting the days until I can eat real food! 10 days and counting... I still have pain on one side when getting up from a seated position, or lying down. I have been sleeping on the couch bc it is easier to get up and a little more comfy. I have reached my protein goal via shakes each day, and come really close to my liquid goal. I feel I need a little variety.. Shakes are getting old quick. I definitely had real hunger last night, so I finished the rest of my shake and was fine. My only thing is I feel like I am in a fog. Almost weak/light headed. I think my body is trying to get used to not consuming enough calories! Anyone else? Seems we should all stick together! ???? -
Aug 19th is the day!
TLCRC3SexyMom replied to TLCRC3SexyMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As the 19th approaches I am getting nervous!! It is a mix feeling of am I sure?? bc I can't change my mind on the 21st and I am doing well with watching what I am eating and working out everyday along with why did it take me this long to want to get healthy? -
I do a low-ish carb diet. I have meat and/or eggs and green vegetables at virtually every meal. I do moderate dairy: yogurt, whey protein powder, grass-fed butter, and occasionally small amounts of cheese. I eat fruit and nuts as snacks (in addition to jerky and more green veggies). Excluded: grains, starchy veggies, dairy milk, alcohol, beans and legumes, and sweets. I make rare exceptions on special occasions, but they really are rare. This particular plan works well for me because if I eat sweets or other carby foods my cravings go absolutely insane. This diet keeps them in check.

Hi started this journey in Dec. 2015. Went through 1 appeal that was presented from my surgeons office. I called Horizon twice this week and they told me I need to send more information I'm 5'4 and 205 my BMI is 39.5. I have high blood pressure, veinous insufficency, been going to pain management for 1 1/2 years for 2 herniated disks and a tear above another and I'm on two different protonics for gastritis. I never mentioned the gastritis condition before, do you think it might put me over the top with the second appeal? Would appreciate any input. I don't want to throw in the towel.

African American vsgers!
teitei636 replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pain for me lasted a few days. I stopped pain killers once I got home bc it felt like soreness from doing crunches, and I just pushed thru it. Walking is good, just be careful with that. I hit 4 weeks on Tues coming, and suddenly this week, after NO pain, I'm feeling pain at my largest cut when I move. I've been told it's from healing, but the better I started feeling, the more I started doing. It's still major surgery and I'm beginning to think I may have started doing a little too much. But, I'm sure it depends on each person, the best to you! Hope your pain eases up soon! -
I just hit 4 weeks. I'm having random chicken episodes. Chicken salad, no trouble. Stewed chicken, had problems bc I didn't chew it well enough. Tried again the next day, much better. It's a learning curve on that chewing well and eating slowly. Hoping it gets better over time. Best wishes!

4 days post op... I am hungry?!
JustJaime5 replied to wagyu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was starving. For the first 2 months after surgery. Yes I was on omeprezole. No it was not head hunger. I was so upset bc that was one of the things I was looking forward to after surgery. No more hunger. Some people say they are never hungry. That was never me. It was this awful hunger that I could hardly stand..... And then it stopped. Once I started eating foods and balancing my calories through the day. It did go away. So don't give up. Keep sticking with the plan your doc has and you will get through it. It's normal. -
How do you know if you're full?
nilamji replied to nilamji's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@SleevyWonder I was on puréed and mushy foods on day 3...granted I wasn't eating too much by then. Now I can tolerate about 2.5 oz of puréed/mushy at a time! But according to my surgeon and NUT I'm on proteins starting day 14 (I waited an extra week bc I couldn't imagine eating yet). I'm allowed to moisten the proteins w small amounts of mayo or broth. But I'm taking TINY bites and chewing everything up. -
They sent me a package and in the package it says that they do 6mos nutrition and weightloss assessment with medicaid patients bc its a requirement for medicaid to pay. So yes, you will have to have that before surgery. You can do that in your area they said. You dont have to travel to them. Call and ask for Cheryl and she will send you a packet.

What was the final straw to decide this?
OKCPirate replied to limichelle34's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I completely relate to every post here. But what got me was listening to a Mental Floss pod cast on losing weight. And they went after the food industry yadayada but then he shifted gears and said - but the biggest problem is our bodies won't let us lose weight, and only 8% can lose it with behavioral change, but 80% who have WLS do. I remember yelling "I call BS." But I Googled it, found the Cleveland Clinic Studies and realized wow, this works. Spent a weekend researching it, found this site and really tried to find bad results videos (once I can accept the worst possible thing that can happen, I am ready to go forward). Finally found a window of time to have the surgery done and made it happen. -

Taking off my fat suit
chrisredjeep replied to madferitchick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Very well done on making that 50lbs! That's just brilliant. You must be so pleased with that result. I go to see the consultant today ( changed appointment from Tuesday) and I will be proud to tell him that since the Monday before my op I have lost 28lb. Its 4 weeks today since the op and I cant believe how well I feel. Think the personal trainer is a great idea. When I have lost 50lb I might look into that one. I wear a fit band and I am manly doing 12ooo plus steps a day now. Poor dog is getting fed up. I will have to get some Biotin did you get it online or Boots. Im still quite low on the calories but I will be asking Surgeon today about increasing. I use the app my fitness pal to track all I eat and it sychs with the fit bit so that's good. Keep up the good work you are doing so well! Chris -

Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
JamieLogical replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's very unfortunate. Most of what the OP says is complete BS. Her "facts" are woefully inaccurate and I hope you've read through the rest of the posts in this thread to get a clearer picture. WLS is simply a tool and if you don't use it correctly, you will not be successful. That is the TRUTH. But if you go into it with your eyes open, you follow the plan, and you use your tool correctly, you can have tremendous success and much-improved health. So please please please, read through all the posts in this thread and as many posts as you can on this entire site. Make sure you've read and understand any/all materials that your surgeon and nutritionist have provided for you. -
PCOS LADIES Getting pregnant post op
KerryRNY04162015 replied to KerryRNY04162015's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've been on BC since a month after surgery so I don't know if I'm regular because of that. My surgeon said its recommended to wait 12 months post op to get pregnant but he said its safe to get pregnant 6-8 months post op because the majority of the weight loss has happened. However I'm not rushing either I want to make sure I'm healthy enough for a baby and I'm only 3.5 months post op and I'm still learning to eat again. It's just exciting that it can happen around this time. I've been through a lot and this is what the recommended me to get done in order to have better odds of getting pregnant. So I'm hopeful :-). I just wasn't sure if ladies with PCOS could get pregnant around 200. I was thinking it would be closer to 150 for the cycle to be normal again.
