I was banded on March 23, 5 days ago. From about the 20th of Feb until March 19, I had lost 20 pounds! And in the last week, another 8. I went back to work and people are already noticing in my face and upper body that I am loosing. I am feeling it some, but since I still have lots of swelling in my tummy, my clothes are a little tighter that I would like. I have been cooking for my hubby & son, and doing ok...but last night the hungar pangs started. Since I was making sketti, I took some of the meat chewed it up until I got all of the flaovoring out, then spit it out. It was good, but just for the flavoring!!! That is what I miss is the different flavors...although adding extracts to the protein drinks help, my pallet is not very forgiving of me keeping all those good flavors from it! My 1st goal is 75 pounds by Christmas...I want to stay on that track. As soon as I am released to swim, we will be going to the Y Friday-Sunday so I can start that way, then back to walking and hopefully bike riding in the near future!

Try to get as much rest as you can, I was on day four as well, took 3 naps then slept for 10 hours. I think that you are on such a high from coming home, having surgery finally behind you, some meds still in you. Now, that has worn off, you begin to feel everything. I am having a hard time choking down the Protein shakes. sleep well....

Girls: Depo Provera and the Lapband
rock_bottom_enthusiast posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heya folks. I've been on Depo provera for six months. I neglected to get my last shot because of some of my concerns (side effects and wanting to conceive eventually). Last shot was due on 2/15/11, which I skipped so I can get off it. My question - I've been banded since March 2010, and my weight loss basically slowed and then stopped in the time I've been on Depo. I've still lost a lot of weight, but most all of it was in the months before I got on depo. Back history - I was on depo a few years ago, gained a little weight, but then, I was already fat. When I stopped it, my periods came back after about 3-4 monnts. I'm hoping this time around is the same because I want to start trying to conceive in about 2 years from now, and I know depo is long acting and I want to clear it from my body long before I start TTC. My age is also a concern (26 now, I was 19-20 during my first depo experience). Can anyone share their experiences with depo, both with how it relates to being banded/weight loss and in general (especially concerning periods/ovulation and TTC)? Thanks -
T-minus 2 weeks before surgery!
GraceysMommy09 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been waiting it seems like forever, the last 4 years to have this surgery. Everytime I was close something would happen i.e. changing of insurance and would have to start over. This time I have been waiting since April of last year and I am finally 2 weeks away from having gastric bypass!!! Yay for me!!! I am currently on a liquid diet that my physician put me on and I've already lost 10 pounds in 2 days. Which I'm sure was water weight but hey its a loss. I want to lose 187 pounds!!! That's a person and a half!! So glad I'm finally at this stage and it won't be long before I start shedding the pounds with the bypass and exercise. I'm just so excited. Ready to begin this new life and see where it takes me!!! I'm a registered nurse so I know that the loss will help me tremendously for my career. How is everyone else doing with thier liquid diet, if u have to be on one. Tell me how excited you are for surgery!!! I can't wait -

Sorry I don't have a respond but after reading your post. I was wondering if you lost a lot if weight what went wrong that you gain all the weight back? Did you stop eating healthy? Went back to fast food? I'm new with WLS so if I wrote something offending I'm sorry. I'm just wondering why ppl get WLS but the moment something goes wrong the pounds come back on. I'm on the diet before surgery May 30, 2012 I lost 10 pounds in 1 week. I'm not cheating & I had many opportunity since I cook 7 days a week & 3 meals per day but I'm commited to change my life & I don't want to continue being over weight after surgery. I want to do so much. I have really small kids. 3 years old & 4 years old. Then much older 15 years old all same hubby. -
Ok, so I was banded 10/21 and I have had success. I've lost 62 pounds. But over the last few weeks I've just stayed at my current weight. I work out 3-5 days a week. I've even changed up the routine but no change. Anyone else experience this? This must be a plateau but it is sooooooooo frustrating!!

Who has had success?
LadyDiva618 replied to rmalikone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on May 1 13 and I have lost 67 pounds total that is pre and post op. My port was removed on Sept 10 and I still have great success! Sundays are my triggers days because of sports. Sometimes a grazes sometimes I do. If I feel like I over did it... I work out another 10 mins. Since I know Sunday is my "free day" I normally burn 350 to 450 calories. If I want a late night snack Cheetos Puff corn is my choice. I know I am not perfect but I always remind myself that tomorrow is a new day. -
I have had a lap band for 10 years and yes, you get hungry with it but I will say that I never felt hunger pangs and bad as before. I am considering revision to sleeve and I know for sure that there is a head-hunger that is in no way related to my stomach. It occurs when I have any kind of anxiety such as a deadline at work or even when I an anticipating something good. I have no idea how to rid myself of that and it may be what others are experiencing.

I'm still waiting to be approved by my insurance but I'll admit, the two week liquid diet before surgery is my biggest fear in the whole process. I can't provide any tips, just my all-time favorite motto, one my dad said everyday for 10 years battling cancer, "one day at a time".

Do not drink with meals?
HonkyTonks replied to azeducator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hiya - just wondering how long before/after meals you guys drink. I usually do 10 minutes before and 30 minutes after. I need to drink lots of water so I can't really wait an hour or so (I've heard it being recommended and thought it was completely nuts) -
8 days post op--- feeling bad
chasingadream replied to Susan58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just had surgery…give yourself time to heal and readjust….it took about 10-12 days before I was really feeling like my old self. I was tired after returning to work….I spoke to my doc about it and they said it was normal….part of the healing process. If you still feel this way be sure to check in with your doctor…they are the ones who will know best if it is normal or if you need to be seen or what you can do to help yourself get through it. Good luck and keep us posted. -

Weight loss stopped after 5 weeks?
Barbara H. replied to Barbara H.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much for your kind words. Looking forward to a healthier 2019. I'm grateful to be on only 2 of the 4 blood pressure meds.that I took prior to surgery. That was a gift in itself! -
How did you feel two months post-op?
DeletedMember replied to Clarevoyant's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it all depends on your specific situation. I am 10 weeks out and have no issues with energy. I feel great. However, I have a bit of a stricture, so eating is very challenging for me and that would pose potential difficulty. I would not be able to pick meat off of salad/sandwiches without getting sick. I have to opt for Soups, etc. If you are able to get an apartment setup that should make things much easier. Regardless, you'll figure it out and be fine. In my opinion it's worth the effort to gain that experience. -

July 2010 Bandsters... Where are you guys??? LOL
dlynn1635 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My name is Demetra and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I was banded on July 14, 2010 and have lost 86 lbs so far... I still have another 25 to go according to my doc. Weight loss is at a stand still right now. No weight loss prior to surgery so my starting weight was 273 and am currently at 187 give or take a few pounds day to day. Was wearing a 20/22 to start and am down to about a 10/12... Very happy with my progress. So I would love to hear from others that had surgery around that time! -
Do not drink with meals?
Jobstud replied to azeducator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is one of the harder adjustments to make for me as I am transitioning back to food. I always drank a lot of Water when I ate in my pre band life. I am finding that this is especially true at Breakfast when I just have to get my morning coffee (usually half a cup if I am lucky now) plus eat breakfast. For now I have decided on a liquid breakfast (coffee and a Protein shake) since I have such limited time in the morning and don't have the 20 - 30 minutes before and after eating to delay drinking. It gets easier as the day goes on. When I get to work I get myself a 16 oz cup of water and sip regularly. This keeps me satisfied until around 10 am or so when I have something small to eat like a small container of mixed fruit in light syrup. Then for lunch I force myself to eat slowly taking at least 30 minutes to eat lunch. Then once the hour is over I can resume the water again and try to get in at least 32 oz at work. Then after work I try to relax with some more water or V-8 before dinner then take my time eating (like lunch) and "forcing" myself to wait at least 20 - 30 minutes to drink again. Its tough and I have to admit that if my mouth is dry I do take a tiny sip within the time frame. So far I am not feeling hungry that much at all. In fact I have to remind myself (with wife's help) to get in my 80 grams of protein daily. This is usually topped off by a high protein snack about an hour before bed. I found South Beach Cereal Bars while shopping the other day. Only 140 calories and 10 grams of protein. Delicious and satisfying way to get added protein. -
Undecided - Need honest opnions/ advice
Chellemetime replied to mia77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost 9 months out and I can pretty much eat anything I want. I choose to stay low carb, low fat, low sugar in order to continue with my weight loss. I've treated myself to potatoes and bread a couple of times and have no problems with them except that bread sits heavy in my tummy. I drink water through a straw. I find that I don't want to drink water until at least 30 minutes after a meal because I feel too full to drink any. For me, the changes that the sleeve brought about are all good. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've gone from a size 22 pants to a size 10 and I'm loving it! My only regret is I'm 49 and I wish I'd done it sooner. -
Paranoid about leaks!
Catherine707 replied to cshields67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was concerned about the same thing, and what I learned is that if you have a leak, you will know it because you will have a fever and lots of intense abdominal pain that stays for hours. Complications from sleeve surgery are rare with experienced surgeons. It is probably better for you to spend time thinking about your new healthy life than to worry too much about what complication you might run across. I remember not feeling all that well at day 10 post op, so I can understand your concern. Just keep following your surgeon's instructions and focus on getting your Protein and Water in each day and before you know it you will be far down the recovery path! -
SELF PAY QUESTION
NewSetOfCurves replied to muneca1029's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here in south Texas, you're looking at about $8,000-$11,000. However, lots of doctors require pre-operation procedures and consultations; all of which can be costly, especially without insurance. For example, most doctors require an upper endoscopy (or EGD). The cost of that procedure varies from $2k to $10k. The hospital I'm going to charges $6k, but I only pay 10%. So, she must consider those things. A lot of doctors also have credit lines, like Care Credit, that will cover the costs and create a payment plan.
