Losing weight too fast?
ProudGrammy replied to keljo44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@keljo44 I'm hoping you meant to say after losing 80lbs you now weigh 225lbs that would mean your starting weight was 305 the higher weight you start at, the more you will initially lose losing 80 lbs in 9 weeks does sound like a lot in a short time but, nothing surprises me after a few weeks people's weight loss usually slows down good luck kathy -
good luck to ya kenny! I had similiar...my pre op started 3 days out with soft foods then on the day before liquids.... My doc explained that sometimes in bigger people it just makes life easier for them to have the small intestines and bowels a little empty...so go drop the kids off at the pool.... LOL ...if ya know what I mean! LOL ....sorry to be gross, just trying to help for post op! I was banded a week ago and have no regrets...by day 4 I was on liquid tylenol...and today I just feel as if I did a few too many sit ups.... I thought mine was too easy too, the whole process from seminar to band was less than 4 months... but I was wrong...just be prepared to have ur own experience...and if u got a minute a great book I would reccomend would be Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies...its been my bible pre & post op in giving a good sense of whats to come and whats normal and not.... hope this all helps and good luck today!

Free mens & ladies clothes - Aspendale (Melbourne)
Goannabanda posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a bag each of mens size XL / 107 and ladies size 24-26 clothing to give away to any local bandsters who'd like to come and have a look / take them off my hands. I am not keen to bother with postage, but will consider it if you are prepared to cover the costs yourself, and are in desperate need of something to wear. If you'd like to have a look - please send me a personal message (PM) by APRIL 15 2007. It's first in, best dressed (literally! LOL!). I have also advertised this at band2gether.net , and will be asking round at my local support network, so it's first in, best dressed (literally, LOL!). If I haven't got any takers by the 15th April, I'm taking the lot down to our Church's Op Shop in Chelsea. There's enough in each bag (especially the ladies' bag) to kit someone out for work & weekends as you melt down through the sizes. I've chucked out any rubbish - all the things in these bags are pretty much in new or near-new condition. Some of the ladies things are BRAND NEW, with the store tags still attached. I am too lazy to try and sell the stuff on ebay, LOL! There'll be more of the ladies clothes to come in a few more weeks. In the ladies size 24-26 bag there is, for example: several pairs of shorts several pairs of long dress pants several tops suitable for work a few t-shirts several tank tops (great for working out!) dress jacket (black) suit (plum colour) - jacket and long skirt casual jacket (camel) at least 4 lovely cotton / linen skirts for work 3 or 4 summer / party dresses satin PJ's (really warm) 2 or 3 lacy nighties In the mens size XL / 107 bag there is, for example: several short sleeve cotton shirts and t-shirts 1 or 2 Rivers long sleeved shirts double breasted dress suit, with matching tie and pocket handkerchief black cotton cargo pants Cantebury long sleeved polo / jumper Good luck, and enjoy! Cheers, Anna. -

Pre Pre-Op Diet!?
babyblues4all2c replied to Laceyloveland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance wants us to lose 10% of our weight. So for me that is about 37 pounds. I’ve lost about 20. I should be getting a call to meet with the surgeon sometime this week. -
Let me know if they are good ! How many weeks are you post op Sent from my iPhone

About a year ago I went through the process and was denied because my comorbidities weren't severe enough. So I tried diet, excercise and to at least maintain. However I've gained about 15 pounds which puts me at the low end of being 200% over. Lack of energy, lack of self esteem, joint pain and GERD has of course gotten worse with the weight gain. I go in one week from today to reweigh and update H&P and resubmit. I'm currently on prednisolone for an allergic reaction, so hopefully that weight gain will come into play before my appt. Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Finally! I Meet With My Surgeon Tomorrow!
*susan* replied to CandiKiss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay, I am so happy you got your date, it won't be long now. My pre-op diet started two weeks before my surgery, and my surgeon's staff emailed it to me the week prior to starting it. -
laprascopic surgery?
kellyw74 replied to jennifer6791's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think they are all pretty much done that way unless there is a reason that they can not do it that way. It is safer to do laprascopic surgery than to cut you open and they prefer to do it. I had 4 small incisions and 1 larger one where the camera went in. I didn't have to take any pain meds after leaving the hospital. I did sneeze one day and felt some pain about a week after surgery and think I just pulled a stitch. I am 5 weeks out on Monday and I feel great and my incisions look really good. Good luck to you! Fruit in Protein Shakes during postop diet
snowbird replied to Princess21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's rule was you could have it blended up. Anything that would pass through a straw was okay. No chunks. This was after a week of clear liquids, by the way. Ask your doctor; they all have different opinions on the post op diet. -
i've lost 9 pounds so far, but all week it has been crazy up and down by about 10 pounds due to all the swelling, and everything else...i know it feels like without eating or drinking much you should be 20 pounds down by now, but our bodies have to adjust. hang in there...they say the first 4 weeks are about healing and the rest is about losing....so try not to worry too much for now

Tough Decision
Diana_in_Philly replied to FloridaGal1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@FloridaGal1976 - My knees are almost as bad as yours. I'm bone on bone in both knees - similar height - weighed more and am older. Here's why I opted for going with insurance. (First - find out what your insurance requirements are - it may not be the six to 8 months you think - call and ask to speak with a nurse manager or case manager to get the answers.) My team required attendance at a group session (I did that end of April 2016) and had my first appointment with my surgeon on May 11, 2016. My surgery was on August 23, 2016. That was just enough time to get all the pre-op crap done - endoscopy, barium swallow, cardiology clearance, orthopedic clearance, pulmonary clearance and psych eval. All of that was required by my hospital group and not my insurance, although my insurance covered everything (except co-pays) except the psych. HW 271.5 SW 246.9 CW170-177 fluctuating right now. So I'm somewhere between 95 and 100 pounds down in 10 months. Pre-op - I was good for at least 1 Vicodin a day to control my knee pain along with regular cortisone shots and Synvisc for my knees. I've taken maybe 3 Vicodin since August - one was a result of running 2.5 miles without warming up well enough. As I'm sure you've read - a sleeve is a tool. So getting your head in the right place and understanding what's going on is important. It's not a long wait and while I was impatient at the start, I'm glad I had the three or four months. I spent time learning to eat better and making peace with a number of things. What can I do now that I couldn't before - I fence (as in en garde) about 5 hours a week. I strength train another 2 hours a week. I do pilates. While I had the surgery to try to speed up having bilateral knee replacement, based on my last conversations with my knee surgeon, I'll be able to put them off at least another 5-7 years. Wait it out. You'll be fine. I understand the impatience, but this is a learning process. Good luck. -
I had my surgery in Detroit, a three hour drive away. Does anyone know of a fill Dr in the Saginaw, Midland, Bay City Area, even Flint? ohh, that doesn't charge and arm and a leg too? Thanks

Where are you at??? October 2010 Bandsters
Fluffy_Gurl replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess I should answer my own questions eh? How are you doing with weight loss? Not so great. I lost about five lbs over thanksgiving and then gained it all back plus a little. I am down around 20 lbs total since my pre op appointment. How are you emotionally? A total mess. I am really struggleing. Along with personal struggles I also lost my grandma right before thanksgiving. Are you exercising? Not in two weeks or so. I kinda dropped the ball there. Im looking into the couch to 5k. I think i may try to make a new start on the day of my next fill. 6 days away. What is your daily routine? At this point I dont have one, Which is probably why I am struggleing with eating and Vitamins and exercise. What has been the easiest thing so far? Nothing. None of this has been easy! What has been the most difficult? Everything. Rebuilding myself and a new lifestyle. Trying not to feel defeated. -
July 30th sleeve!
7.14.14Sleever replied to n0ble199's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 9 days out... I am glad I did it... but no one told me of the weight stalls. Just be prepared for anything. Things that changed this past week.... 1. SMELLS are exaggerated and some are deceiving. Have a hanky ready if you are in a public place to breathe through. I sat next to a guy eating beef Jerky on the airplane on the way back from hospital. I thought the jerky smelled like road kill. and the stewardess had some awful perfume... the combo was not pleasant! 2. those first days of drinking... a sip means a teaspoon...not a tablespoon... else OUCH 3. prepare for nap time for at least the first 10 days (cause that is where I am at) 4. make sure you have Gas X strips! I took some on the way home from hospital... boy do they help with the gas pains. 5. try to find a couple clear Protein drinks... I like unjury chicken broth... but it is getting old. and Isopure (rightfully nicknamed isopuke) 6. Have some adult liquid Tylenol for when you get home, OR have a way to crush some pain pills. 7. your gauze when you get home... get the kind that doesn't stick to wounds.... learned that the hard way! 8. stock up with your Clear liquids and have a variety. (fruity G2 and Jello... gets old too. ) and get rest! Good luck with your surgery! -
Hi everyone!! This is my first post, I am scheduled for next Wednesday the 30th of July for my sleeve. I had my Presurgical testing today and am seeing my primary care doc Friday for final clearance. I'm on day 7 of the 2 week liquid diet and I've lost 15 lbs so far! Very exciting to see the scale move down instead of up for once! Anyone else sleeving next week?

So u just have to post this because I know you will all understand. I am in desperate need of clothes for work that are not falling off me. I went to Goodwill because I can't justify spending lots of money on clothes that I will only wear for a month or so if best. I went and really didn't know what size I needed. I grabbed a couple sizes and went to the dressing room. Long story short. I fit in a 22! I was so elated! I went from a size 30 pants only 3 months ago, to a 22! And actually, I'd say a 20 in a few weeks. The 22 were not tight at all. Sorry, I just had to share because I know you will all understand! I can't remember a time that I had to go down a size, and not go up...

April 3rd Sleeve
Deactivatedfatgal replied to Grandma of Six Boys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly crushed sf popsickles & mixed it with water & ice to make a "slushee" for first few weeks because I wanted to get as much liquid as possible. I am almost 8 weeks out and can ONLY consume one or two bites before needing to take a break. I also did have buyers remorse but only cause I was self pay & my husband just changed jobs & I could've gone through them for procedure, lol. Sorry about your trip to the ER, just try to sip, sip all day, set reminders on your phone if you need to. It's easy for me to forget to sip at times, but I can drink more at once than week 1,2,3 and so forth. -
Well, here I am exactly 7 days away from starting my liquid diet and I couldnt be more thrilled. I have actually gone without eating a few times before the actual diet to see what it would be like. The first time was for 3 days, the second was for 4. I managed it pretty well. I drank the shakes and they seemed pretty filling. You may think I'm crazy for being excited about not eating for 2 weeks but I really look forward to it. Now I'm not saying I won't be hating it later on into it, I'm just saying that I'm excited about the changes that I am about to go through. Plus, have you ever noticed how much better you feel when you are actually hungry? I'm also sure I will be pretty moody during this time, but I will try and control my anxiety for my Wife's sake LOL. Anyways, I just wanted to get on here real quick and say a few things, as well as thank everyone who answered my questions that I know have been asked numerous times. You were very helpful and greatly appreciated.. ( Why does this sound like a goodbye post ) HAHA!
