Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?
NovaLuna replied to CandiceRW's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I didn't have a revision, but when I was doing the research on my surgery I ran across a few peoples posts about how they revised to the DS and their weight loss. I remember one lady was in the 350's prior to her original surgery (gastric bypass) and got down to the 190's but then gained all her weight back and so had a revision to the DS and went from the 350's down to the 180's (she got to 170's after skin removal). I was actually considering the gastric bypass surgery at the time and I just kept thinking 'what if it fails' I didn't want to go through another surgery so I chose the Loop DS as my main surgery and it's worked great for me so far. I figure by the revision comments that I had stumbled on in my research before my surgery choice that your weight loss will probably be about the same, maybe slightly less than it would be with a fresh surgery but you'll probably still likely lose 70+% of excess weight. Just might be a tiny bit slower than a first time surgery. -
Anyone go home same day as surgery?
TexasT replied to TexasT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off the phone with a nurse at my doc's office and had several things clarified. I WILL be staying overnight at the hospital - I'll be admitted as an outpatient, then he will sign for me to stay. I will also have a morphine pump that will last 3 days. He will do a leak test day of surgery and again before I go home. Then I will return a week after surgery for staple removal and follow-up. I also got all the pertinent info regarding quantity of surgeries he's done (sleeves, revisions, etc.). His overall complication rate is 0.04%, which I consider pretty darn good. The info the nurse originally gave me for going home the same day was because she thought I was only having my gall bladder removed. She had no idea I was having a revision. Boy oh Boy - this confusion caused me a lot of mental anguish. But things look good now. The only thing I'm concerned about is having to dish out all my savings if there are complications from the sleeve - but with my guy's complication rate I feel like my chances for success are very good. He's the same one that did my lap band and I've not had a slippage, erosion, or flipped port, etc. so I trust him. Thanks for everyone's input. It really helps to know what your experiences have been for those of us that have yet to go through it. -
I'm scheduled for a band to VGS revision on October 30, but will also be having my gallbladder removed at the same time. My surgeon (who banded me in 2006) said it will be an outpatient procedure just like my band was. After reading about all the people that went to Mexico for surgery and were in the hospital for several days, I'm wondering about being able to go home the same day. Has anyone else on this board gone home the same day? Any complications from doing so? My doc is right next door to a hospital and I do barium swallows, fills, etc. in his office which is not far from where I live (Dallas metro area). I'm not worried about having a problem and not being near medical help, but just wonder how others handled pain, etc. at home.

I have a link for the general info policy for BC/BS SURG.00024 Surgery for Clinically Severe Obesity That is the link to the revised new version effective January 1,2008. They have also revised the plastic surgery and now you must require to have hanging skin past your private area in order for it to be considered medically necessary along with skin problems...etc... oh..and pictures.. hope it helps!

I'm not telling another person about my sleeve!!!
Becca replied to YOLANDA240's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I made a HUGE mistake telling co-workers about my surgery. I kind of had to because my doctor requires three weeks off for a revision in most cases. I am just a little sick of thin people telling me that I can just lose weight with exercise and diet. Ummm....no. I was working out at one point EVERY DAY taking spinning class, yoga, etc. and hit a plateau. I have had weight problems since I was young, too. I just tell them now that I am having my lapband taken out and that is it. I don't mention the sleeve and refuse to talk about it. It's just not worth the frustration! -
Once you have slipped you will most likely continually slip. I slipped and slipped less than a month later. I had revision surgery about 3 weeks ago. Hope that helps.

Single Incision VSG
vicki s replied to bellybutton's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah, that would be nice, although i already had the 5 hole procedure, and then a revision of my band after that, he did cut over the old incisions, but now they are thicker and redder. I guess its a lilltle late for a belly button procedure for me..LOL -
Looking for ANY Molina Band Revisions to Sleeve!!
kelbug1990 replied to TheSkinnyCow73's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am hoping since the original post was 2011 your revision has been performed but it took me many years to find a doctor to help me out. I had the Molina band in 2003 by Dr. Molina. In 2006 I began having complications but at the time I wasn't aware it was band related. I would be woke up out of a dead sleep coughing and chocking on stomach acids. I just thought I had reflux. Now i know it was that I was forming an obstruction due to scar tissue from the band. I had severe chronic reflux and vomitting from the food not passing thru. I tried for several years to find a doctor to help me. Due to the high risk of this complication of the Molina band I attempted to see many doctors but they did not do Molina band revisions. I went to several others but my insurance did not have bariatric coverage but in reality I wasn't obese and the surgery was not for weight lose it was for a complication. I was almost completely obstructed when I finally remembered seeing Dr. Nowzardan from Houston on TV and I worked for a plastic surgeon previously that worked with Dr. Nowzaradan. I gave his office a call on a Friday and they got me in the next day on a Saturday and by Monday afternoon my surgery was approved and scheduled. His insurance girl was great. They knew the correct way to code it since it was not a bariatic surgery. I had a hiatal hernia repair, gastrectomy and gastrojejunostomy. So basically I had a hiatal hernia from years of throwing up so that was repaired. The gastrectomy was to cut the section out of my stomach that the band was adhered to and the gastrojejunotsomy was the gastric bypass. According to Dr. Nowzardan I was not a candidate for the sleeve gastrectomy and the only real option I had was gastric bypass surgery. Without him I do not know where I would be. Malnutrition for sure. I am going on 5 years since my bypass and it has been great. My weight stays within 138 to 145 over the past few years. Initially I got down to about 130 but then went up a few pounds after maybe the first two years. It's been the best thing for me. Other than dumping every so often I have no complaints. I have to take that back. I tend to be a noncompliant patient in regards to taking Vitamins so there are times I am Iron deficiant anemic but as long as I am taking my vitamins and supplements my levels are perfect. I hope this helps anyone that is suffering with issues from the Molina band.Angie -
SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
mlola replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My revision was exactly 3 weeks ago actually. August 31st. Are you eating foods high in carbs? I'm sticking to low carb high Protein purees and noticed that I'm not getting the glucose highs and lows anymore. That might help you. Also, I limit my Protein drinks as I noticed those were giving me symptoms of dumping, which might mean they are high in sugar and carbs. I stopped taking the shakes for a week, but will try again when I hit 4 weeks because I need the protein. Rather than apply juice, why not just try crystal light? Its sugar free but still sweet. I sometimes add it to my Water just to give a hint of flavour. -

I am 6 weeks out today and I am just now starting to lose weight again...I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks, but to be completely honest I didn't want to. I was one of those who had the sleeve to bypass revision at goal weight. Since then I'm down to 130 and I'm 46 years old. I didn't want to lose anymore weight anyway so I'm afraid to go back into the weight losing mode now. Be patient...the weight will start coming off, from what I've read thru posts and online, it's a stall and the weight loss will prevail. -

The sleeve has been successful for me, no complications/issues whatsoever. It's just that when I had it done it was a revision for a band that had very severe complications and left my stomach in horrible shape (not to mention stretched in the exact place the pouch goes). My pouch will never be as small as it should be, for this reason, which just means I can eat a lot. I can eat almost full size meals (not 2 meals though, like I used to pre-surgery!), especially if I don't eat dense Protein FIRST (that's key). That caused a lot of mental distress for me, because I knew I could eat more than half a cup--easy--and it made me feel ashamed and sad and out of control. But I have a lot of mental issues with food and eating, as you can see, so none of these things would necessarily happen for someone else! The sleeve itself is great, and has been great, and I'm sure you'll LOVE it and do great!!!! Good luck! -

Well I am now 10 days post op GS revision to RNY..... That was a real trip. I had it done at Cleveland clinic Florida and they were excellent there. The worst part of my entire journey so far was that darn JP drain. Since it was my second abdominal Surgery I had to go home with one for two weeks. After a week I developed a reaction on my skin so I had to travel back and get it removed. What a relief that was. Other than that and of course the gas pains the rest was tolerable as long as I had appropriate pain meds. I am 17 pounds down from my presurgery weight. Today I got to start soft dairy. Cottage cheese never tasted so good. I have had absolutely no nausea (yet) I start soft protein on 8/10. Can't wait to taste something meaty for a change. Good luck to all. I will let you know how it goes. -

Wow it has been a long time for me to post lol but here goes I had the sleeve 9/26/12 and only lost 35 lb from it that was it. Makes it even more depressing that I paid out of pocket for it. I've had a few health issues and had to cut back on my work and I now have Medicaid Medicare I can't remember which one it is they are putting my family on lol. So my question is has anybody had the experience of Medicaid Medicare paying for a sleeve to bypass revision? -

I love your story!! Gives me so much hope. Im having my mini gastric bypass on April 19...revised from a gastric band. Im terrified!!! Im so afraid of what my social life will be. Will i ever be able to go out socialising with friends at restaurants again? My band has caused so many problems over the years. I havent eaten a full portion of food since 2009 so im used to small meals. Have you been able to eat normal foods yet? My main motivation for surgery is knee pain. ..did you find it just disappeared as you list the weight? Congratulations! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

I WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE A REVISION FROM LAP BAND TO BYPASS 8/27/14, BUT WOKE UP TO FIND DR. CHAND COULDN'T DO IT. HE EMPTIED THE BAND 4/1/14, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT WAS STILL TIGHT AND IT HAD ATTACHED ITSELF TO MY LIVER. THERE WAS ALSO ALOT OF SCAR TISSUE. HE REMOVED THE BAND, DETACHED IT FROM MY LIVER & CUT OUT SCAR TISSUE. IT WAS A 2 HOUR SURGERY. SO I WAS SENT HOME TO RECOVER FOR 3 MONTHS. I KNOW ABOVE ALL ELSE, WE WANT TO BE SAFE AND MY DOCTOR IS EXCELLENT BUT,I WAS SOOOO DISAPPOINTED. I JUST WENT TO SEE HIM 10/14/14 AND HE SAID I SHOULD HAVE A EARLY DEC. 2014 DATE FOR THE BYPASS. I CAN'T WAIT. -

Hey. I'm having my sleeve to bypass revision next Wednesday, July 29. I was sleeved in February 2013. I lost about 40 pounds and kept it off for a year when I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and was started on a beta blocker. I gained 20 pounds the first month and it has just gone up since then. My insurance said only one bariatric surgery per lifetime however I decided to try to have it approved and they approved it within two days. The insurance company considered my failed sleeve a complication as well as my new heart condition and borderline sleep apnea. I thought for sure I would have to appeal the denial but was happily surprised. So if your insurance states one bariatric surgery in a lifetime, try to get it approved anyhow. You may be pleasantly surprised. I have completed all my preop requirements and I started my diet today. Has anybody gone through this and are you glad that you did this? My biggest fear is not the surgery itself but being a failure again. It's so embarrassing. I am telling very few people I'm having RNY. They all think I'm having a hiatal hernia repair. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. -

I am a revision.... However, not by choice I must say! I can't speak as to what's different from the sleeve experience because my sleeve was so messed up that the 4.5 months I had it I couldn't eat or drink anything. It kind of stinks that you have to go through it all over again (surgery...adding foods back...) I don't have dumping but I do think I became lactose intolerant (many are after RNY). I haven't had much dairy to check it out. According to my surgeon revisions need to be extremely cautious of anything that could cause ulcers because we are extra prone to getting them. We also have a much higher rate of stricture (I had a pretty severe one). Also, if something were to happen to our pouches, we don't have any stomach left to help fix the problem. I don't want to be a wet towel by any means! I'll answer any questions you have that I can. -

Yeah I am dealing with a coordinator but she is challenging doesn't return calls or emails. I am done with my requirements I go to see my PCP tomorrow and will be sure everything is documented for me so it's more that just lack of weigh loss even though that is an issue too. I don't think the coordinators understand the revision process in total.
