Hello LLane RN, how are you? And how is preop diet going? I bet you are at the edge of your seat! I just wanted to give you my update. I too got my approoval today and I could not be happier!! I met surgeon first time 4/24 to have my lap band removed after 7 years od bondage (not all bad, but felt like it). I was disappointed to find that my surgeon would not do the revision simultaneously...but now I am glad she did not as I have had the chance to not go off how I was feeling with the labpband and do some very necessary research both on the site and generally. I did tell the office to go ahead an submit as I did not want a long wait and wanted to know my faith early on in the process. Request was submitted initially on 4/30 but they had the wrong CPT code and it was resubmitted immediately and we waited 1 week to come find out the new CPT code request was also cancelled same day. So they resubmitted again on 5/13 and they made me wait exactly 2 weeks to hear back today as yesterday was a public holiday that the request was approved. I met surgeon once, lap band removed on 5/3 and approval today. I am yet to meet the Nutritionist, Psych etc. I plan to still do all that but it feels good to know the approval is in and I can do all other appointments at my leisure. Thanks to your encouragement and this site for all the GOLDEN nuggets, it was invaluable. Good luck to you LLaneRN, I'll be praying that your surgery goes very well and your recovery is speedy! -
Had my sleeve on May 23 and had to go to ER twice over the weekend for pain and dehydration. Now pain almost gone but still get something like esophageal spasms. Driving me crazy and very worried that it won’t go away and that I will have to revise to bypass down the road. Psychologically I am really hurting and questioning this decision. Very anxious.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
Sam.is.sassy replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Out of curiosity how long ago did you have surgery and how much have you lost as a result of the surgery. I have had multiple surgeries, I had lapband in 2012 and then revised to a sleeve due to complications. Fast forward to 2018 I developed GERD and a Hiatal hernia and in the next few months I am going to be revised to RYN. Even with all my complications I would not change my journey I have learned soo much about myself and it has truly changed my life. I have lost over 150 lbs and now get to live a full life!! -
Revision to RNY
Sam.is.sassy replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Chances are that the Gerd would not resolve and being a single parent I don't have the luxury for being down for too long Also there has been a study that shows without the revision the hernia will return in 2-3 years -
Revision to RNY

So what I don't understand is do people get a revision because the first one didn't work or because a few years passed? Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app -
Revision to RNY
Briswife15 replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I hear the weight loss is slower, but I have not had a revision. There are tons of posts on here asking about revision. Have a look around and you'll probably find your answers. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I don’t have insurance and looking to go to Mexico for a revision
McQuaidgirl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Does anyone know about an average cost of having a revision on Mexico? Any places to stay away from? Any really good places? Do you need a passport? -
Yes - I had a revision too and when I woke up from surgery I honestly thought the surgeon had ripped out my left ovary because it was SO painful. The pain lasted a good 2-3 weeks afterwards. It does go though. Hang in there.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
CarmelComplexion replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My date is June 20th!! Sleeve to RNY revision.. liquid diet (all liquids) starts June 6.. The closer it gets the more anxious I get. I feel like I was more calm the first time around.. Is anyone feeling this way? -
I had revision from sleeve to bypass 5/21/19. I'm having a lot of pain in my lower left side. Is this a common complaint? Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

My sleeve still exists. However, GERD is horrible. My current issue is insurance. They're requiring a peer to peer review. This indeed sucks. I have paid for insurance for close to 20 years. I go to the doctor. I didn't ask for GERD. I am in pain every day. When I only drink water? I am in pain. This sucks! Why the heck is this fair? I am not giving up. I am frustrated and fighting. Anyone have experience with needing to be dilated after gastric bypass?
Taranurse 1 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have had the worst time since surgery. I have had a bowel obstruction, and have been told I have narrowing connected to my stomach. I had the dilitation once via endoscopy, but the top of my abdomen hurts. It feels like I have a brick there. I’m petrified to have surgery again, but I think I will need revision surgery. Anyone else have any of these issues?? -
Hello All, I am new to this site and would just like to share my story and journey, as well as perhaps receive any insight you all would like to share with me as well. Back in 2010 I was a fat depressed and borderline suicidal 18 year old, and begged my parents to help me correct this issue. So my mother decided to talk to my pediatrician and to his recommendation he stated I should look for a surgeon who would perform a lap band surgery on me. At the time the lap band was the greatest thing that had ever happened, and no one knew of the complications it could bring. So I found a surgeon who would perform it, I was so happy and excited for this amazing new opportunity! I weighed 369 LBS at the time of surgery, and lost 60 in the first year. Due to me not getting fills, I stalled. But never gained (thankfully) until I finally decided to get a fill, soon after that I began losing weight again! Yay! But I also ate healthy and worked hard. I continued to receive fills, until my lap band was completely filled, I believe it was 10 CCs I’m not too sure. Fast forward to 2017 I had dropped down to 209, which was amazing and a great accomplishment considering the weight which I was at. But then came the complications.. I ended up in the ER on August 2017 with a minor slippage, no big deal, a surgeon removed all of the fluid from my band and I was feeling better in a week. Until December 2018, I began having the same symptoms, nausea, vomiting, I couldn’t keep solid food down. I ended up in the ER again, as it is important to note that I live about 5 hours away from my original bariatric surgeon, so I had no one to turn to. They performed CT scans and determined the same thing as last time that my band had eroded, but the practicing doctor just told me to go to my original surgeon. And I assumed the band was just out of place again. So I made an appointment with my original surgeon. After consulting with him, I decided I wanted a revision as the removal of the fluid from my lap band had caused me to gain 50 Lbs in one year! So I had my revision surgery scheduled on May 13th, and upon waking up, I come to find out they could not do the sleeve because my lap band had eroded into my stomach and made a hole as well. So the doctor had to cut out the band and rebuild my stomach, I’m told he made it a bit smaller. I was very sad and disappointed to hear this, but alas happy that I was rid of the device that had been wreaking havoc on my body and health. Now I’m just worried about gaining back all of the weight, but I’m confident that if I keep a healthy diet and exercise regime I will be able to lose the excess weight and maintain. Only time will tell. Any and all responses and insights would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Have you ever lost 31 lbs. in 6 weeks? That's quite a lot. Plus, remember it's a revision and revisions don't typically lose as fast as virgin DSers. Now a stat to make you happy, I lost 19 lbs. my first month with a virgin DS in 2005. I was thrilled as I'd never lost that much before in so short a time. :)

HUNGER MONSTER HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE
shoregirl75 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I am 8 1/2 months out revision from sleeve to bypass. I have been doing great up until the last month and my hunger and cravings has returned with a vengeance. I am hungry ALL the time! I am drinking a lot to try and push it back but my head hunger and physical hunger can be out of control. I have gotten down to almost the same exact spot that i got to at my lowest with the sleeve (and wasn't able to lost anymore) and now and i have gained and lost the same 4 lbs over and over for 2 months. Thoughts? Advice? -
Lap band revision Hi all I was just curious if anyone had chosen a lap band revision and if they had gone through and did a different surgery are they happier that they did and when did they have to go to the same requirements for insurance that they did the first time around like psychiatric exam and the six-month diet the second time?

Do any one know how easy it is to get approval for a lap-band revision to RNY through Highmark BCBS TN or if they even cover it? Approval was easy for the lap-band but wasn't sure about revision surgery. I have to have lap-band removed and wait 3 months and have revision. Not sure if they (BCBS) would count as having 2 surgeries and would pay for the removal but not the revision. I checked the website and it seems unclear to me and I am afraid to call them and ask or do the physician's office take care of submitting whatever is needed to check for coverage and what percentage? I know my questions sound redundant but I am really seeking sincere advise. Thank you in advance!

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?
Healthy_life2 replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Straight talk…Get a copy of your surgeons/directions plan and food progression for clarification. You need to know if this is something you can stick to. You have to want this enough to change. I hope you go into this with realistic expectations. Just because a few people on this site can eat anything and not gain weight does not mean that will be your personal experience. Many don’t keep the weight off long term eating what they want and relying on restriction alone. If you eat off plan and notice it slows/stops your weight loss you many need to stick to your dietician food plan. (read all the posts on regain and revision) I’m five years out. I maintain in the 130’s. I had to work for this. I followed my plan. I was consistent not perfect. I got to goal in six months ( not the norm with the sleeve) How bad is it if you enjoy food? I love food and I don’t feel deprived. I enjoy trying new recipes and ingredients. I make healthy versions of old favorites. I go to restaurants and social events. It easy to find protein and veggies and other items on my plan that keep me in weight loss mode. I also stay within my weight loss/ maintaining calories and macros. Your diet will change when you go into maintenance mode. You will be adding more carbs and can indulge within reason. Stomach issues: Most sleeves can tolerate anything without dumping syndrome (sleeve surgery intestines are not altered) Other surgeries once sugar hits the intestine they dump. Only my opinion. If you can’t control sugar and food choices, the sleeve many not be a good fit for you. -
Ok now I have my surgery date which is June 3 however I paid my doctor the $221.27 for whatever I had to pay I can’t remember. Now today the hospital called and informed me that I have to pay 2,821.00 on the date of my surgery or I can’t have it. I told that lady why in the hell would I just not receive this information some people don’t have that type of money. She said we will only accept half and we will bill you for the rest ok but still I don’t have $1400. This is crazy because I should have known this information way before now. When I had the sleeve my doctor had the hospital to tell me what I would have to pay out of pocket and they put me on a three month payment plan before I had my surgery. I actually thought that I wouldn’t have to pay since it was deem medical reason for the revision to bypass. My insurance company said that I hadn’t met my in network out of pocket deductible which is $5,500 some of these insurance companies are complete riff off.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
Lolo 2020 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey I hat a hiatal hernia repair and did a gastric sleeve at the same time . Thought it would cure my acid reflux but although I’ve lost 62 lbs and am a normal BMI my acid reflux is worse ! What’s up with that ? Does it mean I will have to eventually do a revision ? I don’t eat a lot of dense foods , mostly shakes , cottage cheese , fish and yogurt but sometimes it’s really bad , particularly at night. Anyone have any advice ? -
Hi all!! I was revised from VSG to RNY for severe GERD on 3/18. My pre-op diet weight was 251 and today it is 216.6. Weight loss has slowed and I’ve had a few stalls. Shark week sucks because I gain despite changing nothing. Slow and steady is better for my body but my mind doesn’t agree and that is a daily struggle. How are all the other VSG to RNY revisions doing?
