So when did everyone start eating some food that you actually have to chew?? Also what foods did you start with and how did your sleeve handle it? I am 3 weeks out and am still on liquids, creamy soup(no chunks), sf pudding, yogurt(no fruit) and protein shakes! I am sick of this stage and am so ready for something different!

Our instructions seem to be on the liberal side, which is nice. For our two weeks of full liquid we can have: Milk/Milk Alternatives Protein shakes (low sugar/carb) Low fat yogurt (with no chunks/fruit pieces) Low fat cream Soups (strained or pureed) sugar free pudding Cream of Wheat or oatmeal, thinned until it falls off the spoon. All Clear liquids (water, broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello, etc.) So far we're tolerating it all very well and while I'm looking forward to purees, if we mix up the flavors of the Soup, yogurt, pudding, and cereals there's just enough variety that I'm not going nuts. Plus I'm not hungry like I was before surgery. I still get hungry and things still sound good, but it's not that desperate, crazy hunger anymore.

Day 4 Gastric Plication Occ
134andhappy replied to 134andhappy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
****LUCKY DAY 13**** Hi friends...it's day 13 for me since surgery. I feel and look great. I'm down to 165 which translates to this progression: Jan 23 188lbs Feb 10 181lbs Feb 15 174lbs Feb 27 165lbs My clothes already feel loose and people are starting to notice, big time....I have been consuming soups and liquids at least once every 2-3hrs. I can't take much down, no more than 2-3oz except smoothies. I make a killer smoothie with Frozen Berries, Lakeland Coconut juice, Half of a banana blended and its delish! I can take about 4oz of that but in sips and over time. Love keeping that at my desk, totally curves my appetite. Last week I was very good about my walking. The last day I walked 2miles was last Thursday. 3days since a good long walk kinda bums me out, because tonight i have an event and i am not sure i can get the walk in without being exhausted when i get home. I will do whatever it takes to get these walks in everyday. Wednesday makes two weeks since my surgery. I am finally getting use to this new appetite and mentality. Although this situation with the liquids is getting old already. At first it was kinda of fun to find different things to drink, fun soups, great yogurts etc but now its just getting to me. I want something to CHEW on for the love of Christ. I don't miss food, i don't care for it, i just need to find more variety. I still have another week before dr.'s orders will allow for soft foods, tuna, cottage cheese, apple sauce, pudding, puree vegetables, mashed potatoes. I am terrified of eating at restaurants and events. This weekend was my first experience being out of my 'comfort zone' with food and one of the worst for someone in this post surgery condition. In Miami it was the South Beach Wine and Food Festival an event that i not only work but also love to attend. This year was different, i could have cared less partially b/c my fear of being around all that food but also i am just over food. I think its the same stuff over and over and over again. I gave up some pretty expensive tickets all in the name of my sanity. On Friday, i worked the event and never walked in the doors, i did everything i could from the outside and left early. My grandmother made me black bean Soup and i ran home to eat that...so good. On Saturday i had an event late at night and thank goodness it was passed canapés, because they crossed my path but i never even blinked. I got extremely hungry during the event while it was in full swing and i took a break. I took a 10min break and sat down and had my soup. The key to bad circumstances is to fill up. Even though it takes 2-4oz of anything it is just like when you are full and eating large amounts of food, once you are full that sensation of disgust after is still there. When i got home almost 4hrs after my last meal, i tore up a small bowl of black bean soup...yes at 2am. Don't judge.. lol The next day i passed on the Paula Deen Brunch and the grand tasting village. Even though i could have gone and i am not tempted to EAT desirable things, i was just fearful that friends would want me to try something or drink wine or that i would be without something to eat for a while and I might panic. Especially since i don't want to tell anyone and i do need to eat my soups etc by 2hrs. I know this is a problem but i will ease into it little by little. I am going to try with friends that know my situation just so that i can start to ease back into normal life with my new stomach and not have to feel like i am explaining to the world. This to me is forever... Also my nutrition is worrying me...i am not eating but a mere 500 calories a day and not getting enough Protein that is for sure. going to my doctor on Wed for some b-12 shots and going to up the consumption of my Protein shakes. Lessons learned so far: Plans your meals or have plenty of back up just in case Throw a single packet or two of Protein Powder in your purse. Worst case scenario. You can mix it in a bottle of Water a voila! a meal MILK products are not your friend. When on the liquid portion of your diet do not expect to evacuate every day, its more like every 4-5 and if you feel constipation take Milk of Magnesia before going to bed, you'll thank me in the morning. This is all for now. I start back up with my trainer next week so i am excited about that and major GOAL is 150 right now. Hoping to get there soon. Until then....feel free to ask questions. I am happy to help with what little experience i have with this and as with all things, I am not a medical professional nor does this post imply any medical advise or suggestions, these are personal accounts. Good night SPT friends. xo 134 and Happy! -
How Long Do You Stay Full?
unbesleevable1 replied to Noor1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hungry about every 1-3 hours depending on what I've eaten. Full liquids or yogurt type foods last the shortest time. Dense Proteins last the longest. Also fullness lasts longer if I don't drink for an hour or more after eating. -
My pre op papers have me eating yogurt, cottage cheese and diet pudding, fruit and cheeses, is this normal for pre op, btw I'm having the sleeve done Monday 20th. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Week 2: May 27-31st Sleevers
tiredtwinmommy replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well here are my stats as of this am: Start weight was 189 ( that is as I was doing my preop diet) May 29 surgery weight was 183 Weight today is 171 NSV I can now wear my engagement and claddaugh rings hubby gave me when we were married 17 and a half years ago. I am fitting into smaller clothes in my closet. Challenges: it is tough when my family is eating all these tempting smelling things around me. But I have not given in and I will not give in bc I know this is head hunger, plus I am scared to pieces of leaks! I am basically having my protein shakes water and sf Popsicles during the day. I have tried stuff a little more "substantial" like puréed beans sf pudding and low carb yogurt, but gurgulina (my sleeves name) sings and complains for quote a while afterward so I get scared I am pushing it too soon. -
Yeah, my go-to on weekdays is a 30-gram ready make shake (either Ensure or Premier Protein). The increased protein (Carnation is 13g) would help keep you full. I drink mine around 7:30 and don't start to feel any hunger until 11. If you need something else, like a small snack to get you through to lunch, I would get Breakstones cottage cheese (comes in an individual package like yogurt does) or individual servings of plain Greek yogurt (you could add some of the Carnation powder to it to increase protein and make it tastier).

When I moved on from the liquid phase I started with Oikos Triple Zero yogurt, farina cereal with almond milk, sweetener & cinnamon. During the soft food stage, I added scrambled eggs. When I moved on to the modified regular diet, I had eggs with other cooking methods, high protein/ low carb bagels with light cream cheese, oatmeal with mashed banana or sweeter & cinnamon. I have also had protein waffles & pancakes with sugar-free syrup. I recently purchased the keto bread from Aldi and had that toasted with egg & cheese for the first time today. I often still start the day with a protein shake, just to make sure I get that protein in. I think I want to start making smoothies with some fruits, veggies, & added protein now that I am getting close to 3 months out. I hope you get some good ideas! It is helpful to hear what others eat!

Bostonie replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, Been lurking this thread for a while and wanted to say hi and thanks for the info shared. Sleeved on May 28th. 250 beginning, 239 DOS, 226 today! Still on liquids/broth/yogurt until hopefully the 12th when I have my follow up. Im really living on Isopure coconut (I bought the varity packs online and tried them all) choc carnation instant bfast and lowfat cream of mushroom/broccoli soups. Im still super tired and nap a few times a day. I used to drink iced coffee every single morning, so missing that as well. -
https://www.buzzfeed.com/carolynkylstra/mason-jar-salads?utm_term=.iu9MzP7pQO#.fjMqE6XOap Bariatric patients look at these and think....would be nice, but WAY too much bulk there to eat.. And it's true...it's a lot of food for a bariatric patient. But if you're eating six small meals a day, it can be nice to have leftovers handy for the next little meal:) Also...you can make these geared a little more to the bariatric diet. Consider the following layers: Hummus Turkey bacon Tuna salad Tofu Shrimp Chicken breast Black beans Chick peas Lowfat hard cheeses Cottage cheese Fetta cheese Olives Banana peppers Avacado chunks Sweet potato chunks Hard boiled eggs Yogurt Pickles Reduced fat reduced sodium salami (great in greek salad!) Protein Pasta (made of chick peas, lentils, and whole wheat) Think of all of your favorites. Include some fruits. A few raspberries, peach slices, fresh apple chunks, pineapple, blueberries Some nice finely diced veggies like peppers, cukes, tomatoes, mushrooms, brocolli bits, onion, fresh herbs Make homemade dressings with low sugar and fat Oh! and if the idea of carrying glass jars around scares you....consider stopping at Gordon's food service and picking up tall plastic deli containers. You can get 50 containers and lids for under ten bucks. The more variety you're including in your diet....the more diverse your gut microbiota will be. Diverse gut bugs are correlated with better weight loss during diet attempts. Switch it up. Get lots of fiber in addition to meeting your protein goals. Get you some wonderful phytonutrients:) And enjoy flavor!

It's tough to get protein in as a non meat eater. I love miso soup made with a homemade beef broth. Miso has tofu. You can buy a firm high protein tofu but I caution against too much soy. Also, u you may have to eat more to get it. 1 cup of broccoli has 3G of protein. Maybe make a yummy beef broth broccoli soup with tofu. Don't forget eggs! Yum! Greek yogurt is higher in protein. I have used it to replace sour cream, mayo in home made salad dressing. Add some stevia and fruit with crushed almonds...omg that is super yummy. You'll have to be creative to get protein without meat. But people do it all the time. Google is my go to for recipes and ideas. We're all learning:-). Good luck

SingleMom33 replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hay everyone, I changed my name from bcannon33 to Singlemom33. I am doing OK. Not getting much fluid down but I enjoy yogurt and cream of mushroom. Stilling learning how much I can handle. I have throw up a couple of times. I walk around the block everyday but seem to have lack of energy. Just seems like everything that goes down feels like acid reflux which I take my prilosec for but not helping. Still have pain in my incisions but that is it! Don't know how much I have lost haven't been to my PCP but clothes are getting more loose. -
23 Days...packing list
buzzby315 replied to gabi311b's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor or the nutritionist should have given you a list of foods you can eat for the first few hours, days, and weeks until on solid foods. I had surgery Jan 20. I stocked up on broth, decaf tea bags, sugar free products like pudding, jello, popsicles, fudgesicles, Italian ice, spiced apple cider mix, yogurt. Definitely keep the protein shakes in the house as you'll need them to get the nutrients you need. The rest is just guilt free icing on the cake. I also stocked up on mushies like refried beans, tuna fish, canned chicken breast, potted meats like deviled ham and vienna sausages. I just bought a couple of each to have some variety. Right now I start my morning with Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added variety and mix with 12 oz skim milk and 1 scoop of protein powder. This adds up to 42 g of protein! Also, keep what items you can have the first few weeks in a box. I did, and when I got hungry I would just look in my box for items I could have. Same for the frig and freezer, carve out a space just for your foods. That way not tempted to have something you shouldn't. Lastly, keep a variety of the foods you can have so you don't become bored. You'll do great! :frown: -
How much is normal weight gain durning everyones favorite time of the month/
Noturningback15 replied to Bobthedog's topic in The Gals' Room
The most I have ever gained is 2 or 3 pounds while on. I would contribute most of that to the extra sweets and frappucianos I had during that time period. This last time I didn't gain a pound. I actually cut back on my calories on purpose for this special occasion! LOL! I decided I don't like seeing any kind of gain no matter what so for now on I will be doing a repeat of last month. I must have at least one bag of M&M's though and one frozen yogurt treat with chocolate and waffle cone pieces in it. Those sugar free fudge popcicles seem to help control my cravings some though. -
Breakfast: Plain greek yogurt w/vanilla whey protien, raspberries and splash of lime juice Lunch: Taco salad Dinner: Spaghetti with dreamfields pasta 2c. of coffee 1c. of green tea 64 oz of water with mio

Have my 2'nd fill on Thursday April 12'th. Wow...I am restricted alright! I think I need to be emptied a little actually. I have slimed at least once a day since Thursday. I'm having a hard time getting things down with chestpain. Solids that is. Even cereal too. Shakes, grits, yogurt, icecream all go down fine. I guess I've caused some irritation with gagging and maybe I'm still swollen but if this continues throughout the week I'm going to call to have some taken out. I'm at 2.2 right now. The weight loss have been very slow....it discouraging really. I've only lost an additional 3 pounds in 3 weeks. 25 pounds loss in all so far. Well, at least I haven't gained.

HELP! (No, it's not really THAT dramatic????)
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No idea what you have in the house or whether you're willing to hit the store. Yogurt, plain or flavored with more fruit added, maybe SF applesauce. If plain yog & applsc, add sweetener to taste, a shake of cinnamon and a coupla drops of vanilla. Or flavor up any yogurt with complementary seasonings/extracts. Cottage cheese, if you prefer. (For eons I thought of cottage as something to eat only when I was ill, but, after banding, added it to my snack rotation.) SF fudgesicle. I think it's the brand "Popsicle" that makes me happy. They also make ices pops that are packed in boxes that look very similar, so look before you leap. Put a banana in the freezer; eat as much as suits you. Same for seedless grapes. Do you have SF syrups, such as Torani? A pot of coffee sweetened/flavored with the chocolate flavor or whichever you like. If choc or vanilla or similar, put some cinnamon in the basket with the ground coffee. This often satisfies me. I've been told that evap FF milk, if put in freezer and cold enough, will whip up; can't vouch for it myself. A bit o' PB with a spoon or two of the Torani and some banana slices, all mushed up, is one of my fave treats. So much that a small amt satisfies. I've been profligate for so long that I can't recall all of my old tricks. IF anything else comes to mind, I'll be back. You are honor-bound to report back with whatever you end up having. -
For me day 2-7 full fluids.... Low fat yogurt drink Skim milk Fat free Soup or broth Low cal Jello sugar free Popsicle Cream of wheat made thin This is what I am allowed from day 2-7

I had surgery on 8/11/09. I have to say that this last day or two, I have finally say that I am feeling hungry. I have stayed on my clear liquids-full-liquids and am now on the soft diet faithfully. I can't afford to blow all of this over some food. I find that the creamed soups are very helpful in the food department, along with the Protein shakes. Yogurt is helpful too. Just try to find things to keep yourself busy w/o always thinking of what you can't have in food. Think about what the journey's end will bring you.
