should I go back to work?
TheNickelMax replied to lucy00us's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have surgery on 7/10 and went back to work the following Monday (7/15). My surgeon was a little surprised I went back so soon. I think it's completely up to the individual. If you're tolerating the pain and your job is super physical, try half days or partial shifts to build up your confidences. -

prettilips3 replied to lucy00us's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, That is pretty quick to go back to work already. I had mine on 6/10/13 and went back to work after 5 weeks. If you don't feel up to it I would check with your HR dept and find out how much time you are allotted? Good luck -

How many days post op before swimming again?
enjoyinglife replied to tgleicher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was cleared at 10 weeks to swim and lift weights. -
So I got on my scale this morning and it said 396.8..I was a little confused because that would mean 10 pounds in a week...hard to believe..so I got off, let it reset and the got back on...then it said 398.0..still not trusting it I repeated the get off, reset, get back on...4 more times...never getting the same number twice. So I settled for the highest number that appeared of 400.8...but secretly I am hoping that the 396.8 is right! I so want to be below 400! I am scheduled for my 6 week followup tomorrow and his 6 week goal for me was 408 which I passed last week! My personal 6 week goal was 40-50 lbs lost which if my scale was right this morning means I met my goal! Any advice??

I had the same thing happen recently. I weighed myself and thought I had lost 10 pounds in a week but I kept getting different numbers. I ended up replacing the batteries and had my bubble busted when I realized I had only lost 5 and the numbers were consistent.

please please help me...does anyone have aetna?
MillyBell replied to shawna29's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have the same insurance, Choice II Open Access. From my first consult to surgery it took about two months. Had some scheduling hiccups so it could have potentially been sooner. It took 10 days to get the approval at the end of it all but only because the caseworker went on vacation. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the process. The doctors and insurance coordinators know how to get you approved so that helps. No PCP. In fact, I didn't even bother to get my dr involved. The surgery center handled everything. Clothing - what to do
QueenOfTheTamazons replied to Tami_Lynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would pick your favorites and reach out to a local seamstress and see if they might make you a package deal. When we got married last Halloween my mom my sister and I had to have our costumes slash wedding dress altered kind of last minute. I went to a local seamstress and she gave us really good deal for all three pieces. Only cost me $30 to take in like five inches of my wedding dress, which was a custom-made 1940's pattern dress. It might cost you a hundred bucks or so for 5-10 items but it likely cost you a lot more than that if its torrid and other similar brands. You could also try selling on your local Facebook pages. I see a lot of women selling clothes like that in my area. The online resale stores don't give you a whole lot of money and where I am the consignment stores don't either. Mine was triggered by fat and sugar. Follow your diet religiously. I thought hummus was ok I was 10 days out. Hubby went to an Arabic restaurant and got hummus and falafel. I had a bit if falafel (deep fried) and two tablespoons of hummus. It had oil all over top. Didn't make it more than 15 minutes and it was all out of me. The second time I went for frozen yogurt that it was assured was fat free sugar free. Took 3 bites and it was nasty and about an hour later. Repeat of the dumping.

Good Morning Everyone, I am new here to this site. I just started my journey on 03/19 with my first appointment with the surgeon. Put me on the pre op diet right away and said that I needed to lose at least 10 to 15 pounds before surgery. Let me tell you... this diet has been tough. I have often wondered if I am doing the right thing by having surgery. But then I remind myself of the end result...no more meds and a slimmer, healthier me! The diet does work tho because I have already lost 13 pounds. YAY! I have already had my Psych evaluation and preo op tests. Just need a release from the Cardiologist, Nutritionist, and have my Scope. Hopefully they submitt to my insurance for approval soon. I am so ready for the new me and take my spot on the losers bench!! Thanks for listening Danielle

Weight Loss? Where is it?
kris74745 replied to Me1e's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my surgery on June 4th, 2008. My weight loss has been extremely slow. After my first fill, I could still eat practically anything, just not quite as much as I used to. I just had my second fill. There is a major difference! I had only lost 10 lbs before this fill. Now I have lost 20! I eat tuna salad, soft scrambled eggs w/ one piece of bacon, a lot of tuna salad!!!!! If my stomach is upset, I will eat something more soft, like a potato or Beans. Talk to your surgeon about your concern, and he/she will take care of you! Kristi -
Financing for out-of-pocket
new_me_2008 replied to Shandymae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same. I went to my first counsultation on 9/18 and was financed on the spot (care credit I think) and had the surgery on 10/08. Best $$ I ever spent ( or financed to be more accurate!) -
OMG. The waiting is soooooo hard. My surgeons office submitted all the paperwork to the Insurance Company on March 5, 2013. Exactly one week ago and its killing me!! Still pending authorization. Any idea how long United Health Care takes in reality? They say 7-10 days. But I'm so impatient! Ughh

Helena.. more then HAPPY to reference posts as well as provide VERIFIED patients (with photos taking with Alvarez) along with their horror stories, paperwork from their home doctors and anything else you want. I don't promote ANY doctor as I don't care who someone does their surgery with. It would be BEST if you do it in your home town with a doctor you trust but if you post on here promoting a surgeon then you have to let them see both the good and the bad. If they want to be a great doctor then they have to be ethical and don't want horror stories out there about patients then they need to contact those upset patients and make it right or fix their surgery or something. I would never go with someone doing 10-15 surgeries a day and as far as 'checking facts' I am more then willing to invite over some members from the other forum and have them link to their posts. Bashing is when you don't like someone while I just want both sides of the story heard and maybe that guy will be more accountable to the people he hurts. -

Calling all Nurses.....
nurse_ally's mom replied to KathyM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am a registered nurse with background in ICU, home health and now oncology in Oklahoma City. As you can tell by my username, I am ?nurse_ally?s mom.? What a fortunate person I am. :biggrin0: I have fought the weight battle my whole life, literally. I cannot remember a time when weight and food did not control my life. My lowest weight as an adult was 128 (I was underweight for 2 days!!!!) and my highest was 303 (sometime within the last year and a half). I have a cousin who had RNY several years ago, and he is still overweight...I don't know why because we have never really discussed it. Being a nurse I have taken care of several patients with complications from RNY and banding, and I knew that would never be a option for me. I am miserable and just supposed that is the way the rest of my life would be with hypertension, knee pain, diabetes (newly diagnosed), c-pap, etc, etc, etc. And Allison was heading that same direction. Here we go...I guess Allison must have been researching this for some time, but one day she told me she was getting sleeved. I had already heard of this from a coworker who was thrilled with the results, but that is as far as it went. I questioned her about the procedure, talked about the expense and that is when she told me she was going to Mexico to have it done. My response...HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!! We spent many hours discussing her research and I went through the process with her of deciding which surgeon, location and so forth. With the feeling that she had done her research well, I jumped on board for her to go ahead. She was sleeved by Dr. Aceves on 7-1-10, is back home and doing well at this point, and I am scheduled to be sleeved by Dr. Aceves on 8-12-10. So there you go!!! For her my thoughts are that I don't want her to live the life I have lived if there is any possible way to avoid it. My weight has controlled everything I have ever done, and I have missed out on a lot of fun times because I was too big to participate or just flat didn't feel like it. She is a remarkable young woman with the responsibility of two awesome children, and she needs to be released from Fat Prison. For me my thoughts are if there is even a chance that I may get rid of the extra person I have been carrying around on my back for the last 20 years, I'm there!!! That's my story in a nutshell. I could go on and on, but those of us in this boat don't need all the details...you have already lived it. Thanks for starting this thread, Kathy. It is good to have others who relate to us in more ways that just getting sleeved. My parting thought for now?LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD!! Kathe -
Sounds like your sugar had dropped at work. If you had not ate anything til around 10, that is 3 hrs, so it was past time for you to eat, if you're like me. I have to eat every 2-3 hrs, especially early out when we can only hold a tiny amt. I know it's probably more difficult for some people at work to be able to take breaks or lunches to have something to eat, but you could take small ziplock bags of peanuts or almonds to snack on until you can get somewhere and have an actual meal. On the cookies, I have no advice except to not dwell on it, what's done is done. Just strive to do better with your choices, and keep better choices very handy so you won't be in a situation where you're hungry and have cookies as an option. I keep peanuts, almonds, pistachios, edamame, or protein bars in my purse at all times. Protein bars are as yummy to me as any candy or cookie anyway, and the ones I get are 20 grams of protein, so can easily also be a meal. If you have a fridge at work, you could also take ready to drink protein shakes or string cheese.

Awe charmin, You are amazing and yes its not easy and yes we will slip up. We have to just take it one day at a time. sometimes one meal at a time. I was banded on 12/30/10 and havent had my first fill either, Its scheduled for 2/10/11. So I had to have the frito burrito from taco bell. i ate half of it and it sucked lol. so i am back to making better choices and sticking to them. I'm here with you. Now you go girl!!!!!! you can move mountains......... Eileen -
Hello, I also have severe left shoulder pain. The pain comes and goes and is so bad that it stops me in my tracks and could bring me to my knees.( I know that sounds dramatic but it is true) I move around, use a heaing pad, moist heat, cold, you name it. I was banded on 12/19 and have had several conversations about this with my doctor. I am very upset about this pain. It seems the only thing I can do is learn some way to manage it. I feel like this is never going to go away. I'm sorry for your pain, but I am comforted in the fact that I am not the only one. Keep us posted on your progress and If anyone has any more advice on how to manage this I would also appreciate it.

I had surgery on 9/18/2012 and am also a very picky eater. There are definitely more items I choose not to eat for whatever reason. My taste buds have changed somuch that overall I basically live on a high Protein, low carb diet with vegetables as often and I can eat them. My meals consist of protein and fruit for Breakfast (egg beaters southwest style) 1/4 cup of cinnamon flavored applesauce, for lunch I have 2 ozs of protein and 1/4 cup of a vegetable then dinner consists of 2 ozs. of protein with 1/4 cup. At 10:30 am every morning I drink 1/2 of a 20 oz. Isopure drink and save the remaining 10 ozs for my afternoon break at 3:30 pm. At least two or three hours after dinner if I want something I usually end up eating a sugar free banana popscicle from Kroger (they're GREAT). I recommend them to everyone if you like the banana flavor. I try my best to not be rushed while eating and never eat on anything larger than a saucer. My heaviest weight was 293 but lost down to 278 before surgery and am now down to 219.4 at my weigh in yesterday. At this stage I try to weigh weekly not to become a slave of the scale. I hope to join a local gym later this month when life allows for it. Good luck to everyone with regard to eating. If being a picky eater isn't bad enough, I found that after my procedure everything tends to have a blah taste; nothing really appetizing. Everyone hang in there and do you best to try those things you didn't care for in the past. Your taste for foods WILL change so be ready. When I went through the two week FASTING shakes prior to surgery I didn't have any problem feeling full. After surgery when I could drink the FASTING shakes I could not bear to swallow the drink. To date the shake is the ONLY thing that has made my gag reflux kick in. Therefore I am staying away from the FASTING shakes. Good luck to all of you picky eaters!
