That is part of a panniculectomy, removing the apron of skin plus it can be a requirement for insurance to cover. My ins. wanted pics that showed the pannis hanging below the pubic area. And.....not tmi, most people have a pannis after losing a ton of weight

Just to clarify - I do not count my weight as "regain". I bottomed out at 199 16 months after surgery. That is also when I switched from exercise to weight training. I started gaining for the next 13 months at a healthy pace until I hit about 225. For the past 27 months I have fluctuated up and down from the 225 mark, but never above 230 nor below 220. I view my gain is the natural rebound before going into maintenance. My original goal weight was 220, so I'm happy as a lark at 225. I am sure that if I ever get the skin removal done, I will lose that pesky 5 lbs.

Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery
JanJan19 replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Serengirl, it DOES help actually! Knowing I'm not the only one. And I tell myself the same thing about the skin! Maybe mine will be less saggy, etc. Maybe my body has more time to recover from each pound, etc. But man is it tough. It's so much easier (for me) to stay the course when the weight is coming off. When you're eating virtually nothing & it's not coming off it's real hard not to slip into "might as well be fat" mentality. I've not tried days of 300-400. I sort of feel like my body already thinks it's starving, but who knows. Really, no one freaking knows which is why the lecturing about calories is so aggravating. I did actually do a 500 calorie day this week with a real long nights sleep and - gained .4 two days in a row. I mostly stick to interment fasting - trying to keep my eating to an 8 hour window. Which I do most days just because I try to prolong eating as long as possible & get as much water in before that as possible. My doctor is fine with me having as much coffee as I want, so that's my morning routine & I feel like it does help keep hunger/eating at bay. I'm sure it'll come off eventually. It's so hard in the midst of it to not feel like I've lost the last pound I'll ever lose. And I do feel GREAT with the 51 pounds gone. Frankly, I just want to b***h about it this week & scream a little "not fair" when I see endless posts of people hitting goal by month 6. Unreal. -
Anyone with PCOS not lose weight after surgery
Serengirl replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Girl I hear ya its a mind F&ck for sure. Its fantastic to lose 51 pounds so first of all that is awesome and CONGRATS but i do understand how frustrating it is to see others get to goal and lose over 100lbs in 6 months - its like WHAT????? Its super demoralizing to eat 500-600 cals a day and track macros and drink all of your water and still barely lose a pound a week. I wish i had words of wisdom but maybe the notion that you are not alone will help? Its NOT JUST YOU but it doesnt change the fact that the struggle is super real when youre thinking to yourself, "so i cut out 80% of my stomach,i eat 20 carbs a day (which for most people even without surgery they would lose enormous amounts of weight in ketosis alone) and yet youre calories in and out dont add up to weight loss. NOT FAIR" I for one would be happy to know ANY advice or eating tips or what have you from other peeps in our boat that found a way to get the scale to move. Maybe its to go up in thyroid meds, I have even thought of using progesterone creams bec with PCOS we are estrogen heavy... I dunno but whatever it is, I will do it. I didnt come this far only to come this far. I have tried cycleing calories... super low cal days like 300-400 to higher days around 700 (but most people lose tons of weight on 700) and i workout every single day. Ill let you know if i find the magic solution but im using this time to experiment a bit while still staying on plan. Hang in there... youre not alone but yes its okay to mourn the bum rap we got because I at times have followed the exact same diet of other posters who lose 5lbs a week and the scale will go down .8lbs and its infuriating... stay the course though. I also tell myself that perhaps the slow weight loss will mean our skin has more time to tighten and not be as flabby....try to find the small silver lining. -
I still have boney butt syndrome. Hard chairs in restaurant’s kill me. I still sleep with a pillow between my knees. Where weight stops is hard to predict. (Starting weight and many other factors). I would have been happy at overweight BMI. I was expecting 60% weight loss with the sleeve. My weight stopped at a BMI of 20. I lost muscle with rapid weight loss. Building muscle became easier with increased calories. I weigh ten pounds more than my lowest weight. My clothing fits better and I filled out some loose skin with weightlifting. Did you ever think eating would be a chore after goal? It gets better over time. You can gain if you choose. It may not happen until you can consume more calories

Saggy butt - CHECK! Sore butt when sitting on hard surfaces - CHECK! Spine pain/bone rubbing when leaning back on a bench - CHECK! Need for slippers/shoes on wood and tile floors - CHECK! Knocking knees at night - CHECK! I got used to it. I'll take all of the above over being obese any day. With that said, I do notice that my body "material" is still changing/shifting (despite actually weighing less now than when I first started maintenance): my face (cheeks and eye sockets) have filled in some and my loose skin has either tightened up (comparatively) or something is shifting around under it to make it look that way. I suspect its the increase in carbs in my diet that is contributing to this "filling out" (the one time when bloat is good! lol). ...and on a related note, my hair is growing back in!! I am now the proud owner of a whole bunch of ridiculous chicken hairs sprouting all over my head (the same ones I coveted from @sillykitty way back when I thought the shedding would never stop)

I have increased my calories and slowed my weight loss. I am now at 127 fairly consistently at 5 ft 2.5 in. I know I could still lose more and be in the normal BMI range however I have muscular legs and have saggy skin with wrinkle above my knees and baggy arms etc. so I don't want to lose anymore. I would be happy where I am at but ideally would like to be 5-10 pounds heavier to fill in a bit. I am thinking I should try to maintain this 127 for now assuming I will regain the bounce weight at some point and still be in a good range. However, over the last few weeks I lost 1-2 pounds and I guess my fat has shifted or maybe I gained a little muscle and lost more pounds of fat. My butt is saggy like an old lady and flat so I don't have much padding. Now my bum gets sore sitting too long even on the couch. I also have to wear shoes or slippers on my wood floors since my heels feel sore. I have had to sleep with a pillow between my knees for a few months now since my knees are bony. Maybe I am just overly sensitive? So my question to those that are at normal BMI did you go through this? Did you just get used to it or did your weight or body fat redistribute? I am already forcing myself to get in 1400 calories to maintain but still lost a few pounds over the past month.

I once used hair removal cream under my arms and I got a reaction that was pretty bad. It was burned skin and felt awful. If you want to try the cream, maybe get the kind that is for faces which may be more gentle. I sued the leg kind and it was rough!

I plan on making an appointment soon as I'm 3+yrs post op RNY with a baby in between so I'm ready to get rid of this extra skin! Also any tips to help get insurance to cover just a panni? I'm pretty sure mine won't cover arns, breasts or anything else but a panni(and hopefully FUPA is a good start) Thanks in advance! Sent from my SM-J737P using BariatricPal mobile app

Me and my team didn't talk maintenance (I reached goal at 7 months, and my next appt with my NUT & surgeon was 5 months later...had my appt w/ surgeon** yesterday and NUT and labwork to be done this coming Monday), I figured out maintenance on my own with the help of Google and the people on here. To be honest, I find the information and advice given to me by my NUT to be too cookie cutter and not so very useful to me specifically. I mostly went against her originally prescribed advice (though I always told her that I did), and she was not overly concerned by my choices. Go figure. Like @FluffyChix said, you've got lots of wiggle room before you need to be concerned about being unhealthy/underweight (and you will be glad for the extra cushion when the bounce back comes around) As an aside, and if it makes you feel any better at all, I find that lots of people are concerned about losing too much weight/looking too thin when approaching maintenance (myself included). Now just speaking from my experience, when I decided to stop losing weight, I believed I was way too small and my face way too Skeletor-ish. Now, 4.5 months later, I actually weigh less than I did then AND I personally think I look and feel great awesome (probably cuz I am now used to my thinner self and my fat self is becoming more and more a distant memory). My Skeletor-face seems to also have filled out, and my skin seems to have snapped back some (not enough to forgo plastics, but still). Sooooo...it's not easy, but I think the most effective strategy is to first just choose one (whether it be your NUT's or not), try it out and wait and see. Then adjust as necessary. We are all sooooo different that there can't possibly be just one solution for us all.

Struggling with this, too! I am able to pull the skin taut enough to get it all, but it takes some effort. I'd like to pursue laser hair removal in the future. I hadn't considered hair removal cream, but that might be a good plan for the interim!

I did feel a bit self conscious when the summer started, by the end it did not phase me much. I see my skin as a badge of honor, a reminder of where I was, where I am and with the correct decisions where I'm going.

February 2019 weight loss buds
Everything replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m just getting caught up after having not logged on for a couple of days/weeks. So there may be more comments on this but I am so fascinated. As you know I also struggle with tremendous back and neck pain. I had implants placed in 2008. So to have those removed/reduced I’m sure would not be covered by insurance. I desperately desperately need a tummy tuck. Which of course would not be covered either. Mine is more cosmetic but the skin on my stomach is terribly unsightly. I’ve never seen anything like it. I was carrying all of my weight at waist. Anyway I wish you luck and please keep us updated. Private message me if you refer to as things progress. I’m happy for you! -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

I'm taking a couple weeks off of IF. Just taking a break from it. I'm still doing "lean days" at the beginning of the week. And more lenient eating at the end of the week. Kinda going back to basic clean eating. Having morning lattes and eat my first meal around 10-11am. So very loose TRE. I weigh 131.6 today. -
lawd. i cannot stop losing weight. i have lost another 2lbs this week, so i am at 131. my dietitian said i gotta stop but aaaaaaaa. it's just happening! what an odd problem to have. today i am restarting protein shakes in addition to my meals to boost calories. i HAVE to be able to get to 1100 a day. unf. it's so hard with micro stomach. and so many food intolerances. i want to get super extra protein in now anyways in prep for the skin removal next month to assist with healing. hopefully 2 shakes a day will help slow or stop the loss and also add in a lot of protein. I was in a meeting at work today. Looking around, there was only 1 other person who is smaller than I am - she is a naturally tiny little thing. The others may have filled out cheeks and younger looking skin, but I never want to go back! Along with the smooth skin, there are also filled out butts, bellies, arms and thighs!

New... question about psych evaluation
AJ Tylo replied to FireEMT710's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was a joke my view - It is a cover your ass the doctor and insurance companies do. They ask you a series of questions to make sure you are mentally able to make this decision. Now I see dead people and definitely have a screw loose and I passed. Just kidding They also have to make sure you can deal with the Head issues that come full blown with the surgery. -
This picture makes me feel like a tough, badass B! I’ve lost some muscle recovering from shoulder repair but damn does it feel good!! Just need to keep clothes on to cover the Sharpei skin!
-
You’re so sweet! I went to my first HIIT workout post bypass revision and shoulder repair. I wore tiny little booty shorts and would catch myself in the mirror and think damn you look good!! I might have dysmorphia but at least I have moments where I really recognize the loss. When I could see clavicle, chin and definition in my neck I practically peed myself in excitement! The loose skin is starting to be real and it really sucks we can’t get rid of it without paying tens of thousands of dollars. I’d probably be around a size 4 if I didn’t have it!

I asked my doc today about it. She said that there is most likely fat malabsorption, due to the surgery, but that all my liver enzymes were fine, so not to worry. She also said that the more frequent, loose stools are probably due to the increase in carbs. The small bowel that was removed is responsible for most the digestion and the body has to relearn how to digest and absorb. She said it WILL happen, but just takes time, and not to worry. Just be sure to get my protein and vitamins in,. -

I, too, think I look a lot older with the saggy facial skin, but people tell me I actually look younger. Go figure. I just try to smile a lot more, to make sure all the wrinkles look like smile lines and not old lady lines! -
I had surgery on September 9th I lost 20lbs. But now it seems like I'm not loosing any weight. I went to a doctor's appointment today and gained 5 pounds. I've been doing exactly what I'm supposed to, haven't cheated. I'm feeling like this didn't work for me. Please can anyone help me figure out if this is normal, did it also happen to anyone else? I'm trying not to compare, but it's really hard. Sent from my LM-Q710(FGN) using BariatricPal mobile app

February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can relate so well to all those things, especially the chin. I'm 53 and I think the advice I would give to those over 50 who are contemplating the surgery is to expect to look older. As those chubby cheeks lost weight, the skin starts to sag on the face too--at least for me. I definitely don't regret the surgery, but now when I see photos of myself I think "WOW! I look so....old!" The lines in my forehead have increased, as have the lines around my mouth. I guess I should have enjoyed that baby face when I had it! Another interesting thing is that I am noticing overweight people so much more now--not in a judgmental way, but more in a "I'm so glad I am not dealing with all that excessive weight, feeling overheated and sweaty all the time" way. Last night I was on an airplane and it felt so good not to have to expand the seat belt from the person who was last sitting in the seat before me. It fit so naturally and you are right, my neighbors did not fret that I was going to infringe on their space or be that "fat person" next to them. It's just a wonderful feeling. So glad I went through all the tough stuff to get to this point. -
My 1 year anniversary is Thursday, and I have an appointment with my bariatric team to talk about what's next/how to move to maintenance. SW: 275 Surgery Date: 265 Doctor's Goal: 165 My Goal: 150 Current Weight: 144 Revised Goal: 130 (ish? Starting to think I may just need skin removal/plastic surgery versus more actual weight loss) I am so pleased with my progress, and am now focused on strength training. Over the course of the last year, I have started working out again, gotten rid of high blood pressure, diabetes (officially in remission now!), and high cholesterol, regained control of my eating habits (this is ongoing- for life!!) and addressed my emotional and binge eating behaviors. I weigh less than my normal-sized husband for the first time since he's known me (15+ years). I affectionately refer to him as "fat", now that he weighs more than me. (He has always been at a healthy BMI and gets a big kick out of being "the fattest one in the family".) I have much more confidence in myself and life in general. Throughout this last year I also got a promotion and big raise at work, and by this time next month, I will have my master's degree in the books. My husband and I are working to purchase a local business (fingers, toes, and hair crossed that things pan out!). I have hope for a long, healthy life with my husband and children.
