Domika03 replied to michelev97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How about a homemade smoothie? That's really the only way I vamp up on my Protein intake, almost all in 1 sitting (though it takes me a while to finish it). Pure Protein vanilla Creme shake 1 scoop of Pure Protein vanilla powder 1 container Dannon Oikos yogurt 1/2 banana cinnamon Splenda Taste great & gives you loads of protein first thing in the morning!!! -
It's hot and I'm nauseous and just can't eat!
Valentina replied to UpandAtom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When it's hot outside I make the following: I scoop Protein powder or one container of Greek yogurt I cup of frozen tropical fruit 10-12oz of calorie free liquid 4 ice cubes. Blend the jeepers out of it and enjoy a summertime smoothie--approx. 180cal and 15-24+gr of protein. Yummy and so cooling. Good luck and keep cool. Prayers going up. -

Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
SweetTeach replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have also had success with the band. I followed all the drs instructions and have no regrets because it changed my life for the better. I started out at 276 and I’m 178 now! The way I eat is completely different now. I work out and I diet like a normal person. I don’t try to beat the band or see what slides down. I have had zero complications and it has been years. My favorite food used to be chicken wings. I can’t eat them anymore, new fav food is sushi. My taste buds have changed. I used to love chocolate anything. I now eat a balanced diet and have incorporated yogurt, vegetables I can digest, salad is tough sometimes, soups, ground turkey, and even tofu. I don’t crave meat because I can’t really eat it but I try to get my protein where I can. All good things and hope to lose another 45 lbs. and I will continue to do my best everyday. Good luck! -

I am so glad that you are feeling so much better and that your body is adjusting. I'm doing a lot better these days myself. I actually am beginning to experience some constipation. I began taking a liquid supplement by Bluebonnet called Calcium Magnesium Citrate Plus Vitamin D3. It helps me tremendously by keeping me regular and soft. I take it every evening along with my evening Vitamins and medications. I have progressed to solid foods and have found that some things don't agree with me as the once did. I used to love Peanut Butter. I have found that now it's too sweet and too oily. I can't stomach red meats either. Carbmaster has a new low carb smoothie that I tried today and it didn't sit well. I think the smoothie was too thick. I can still eat Carbmaster low carb yogurt with a scoop of added Protein. As of this past Monday 29AUG16 I started going back to the YMCA so I could swim in the early mornings. Well.. I started off doing Water aerobics for thirty minutes and swimming for ten minutes before I got tired. I have been going every day this week and have been increasing my endurance. I now do water aerobics for twenty minutes and swim for twenty minutes. When I get cleared by the surgeon I will begin to add some light weight lifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so I wont loose all on my fat free muscle mass. I will see him in two more weeks. I must say that my weight loss has been considerably slower. My surgeon had prepared me by informing me that the weight loss would be slower than before. I just need to relax and let the process work no matter how long it takes. I'm not competing with anyone just my preconceived ideas of how this should work for me. I'm glad that you did read my response and know that I am here if you need me. Truthfully I need as much support as I can get especially since this is a revision and I am deathly afraid of failing!!. So please keep me posted of your progress as well. I really appreciate knowing that there is someone else on this board who has a similar background as I do. I don't feel so alone anymore. Thanks -
5 days post op and STARVING! Help!
ISleevedIt replied to WeightStruggle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about non-fat greek yogurt? I was able to have that as part of my full liquid diet. -
There really is no reason to be hungry on even a full-liquids diet. Protein shakes -- homemade, not canned -- can be extremely filling, and Soups, yogurt, and pudding can help too. Don't be counting calories or worrying about serving sizes at this early point--just take in what your body needs to be satisfied and let you concentrate on healing. Kathy, you may have already gotten to soft foods by now, and I hope that's helping your hunger. Let us know how you're feeling!

Looks like youre not getting in enough Protein.....the mashed taters and stuff seem easy to get down...and taste good....I did the same thing at times......but the carbs are only going to make you more hungry....try adding yogurt...which many have good protein content......cottage cheese well mashed....so many alternatives.... As for the fill.....you wont really know if you need a fill until you are past the mush stage....and on more solid foods.....because the mushy stuff and soft stuff quickly passes thru the stoma....I have 2ccs in right now....that was my first fill at week 6...and at times I can still eat quite a bit if the food is mushy or soft...my fill was placed during a port revision......i went for my first fill at 5 weeks....only to find that my port was completely flipped.....think my dog tore my stitches when she jumped on me....naughty girl..... Good luck....and listen to your doc.....he/she is there for advice and listen......after all its what we pay them for.... Protein Supplements: GNC 54 gm Powder
Afrykanvyolet replied to RKidder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Laura, Where can I get the IDS test tubes. Like you, I HATE the powdered shakes. I've tried adding fruit, soy milk, yogurt, Peanut Butter, SF Hershey Syrup, and still could not stand the grittiness. YUCK!!! I do drink Atkins shakes in vanilla and strawberry, which I love. We all know how expensive it is. Not only that, Atkins has 15g of Protein and I would prefer about 25-25g. -
Hi everyone! I'm three weeks out and have been really enjoying watermelon! Since I'm still on mushies, I make a protein shake each morning with protein powder, nf plain Greek yogurt, frozen fruit (berries, bananas, peaches, whatever) and fresh spinach or kale and sometimes carrots. It's delicious! I can never finish the whole serving so I save the rest for my afternoon 'boost'.

FAGE is so yummy - my absolute favorite is the peach! I've tried every other brand of Greek yogurt I can find in the storeand by far, Fage is the best around!

It took me a long time to get used to Greek Yogurt, but I kept at it and love it now! Funny how things change Post-surgery, I make Protein Jello (1/2 pack of unflavored protein - a full pack is too much for me, and a box of a strong flavored sugar free - like cherry) and then put about a 1/4 cup jello and 1/4 cup plain greek yogurt and mix it together. Gives it the fruit flavor without the sugar.

@GeauxForlt what is Franken Yogurt? I Googled it and didn't come up with anything

March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?
danyelleb replied to DDFinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for posting canadianprairiega! I haven't tried oatmeal or salad yet. My diet thus far is still pretty bland. I have egg whites and sausage for breakfast, cheese stick for snack, chili for lunch, Greek yogurt for snack, and some sort of Protein for dinner. It feels like I'm losing slowly and suddenly I have a major sense of urgency to see the scale move. I had my one month post op last week. The doc gave me a goal of 154 within the next five months. Honestly I sat there and giggled in disbelief when he set that goal. He assured me that I could do it, but I can't even picture myself at that weight. It seems so unreal. So, now I'm using MFP and exercising. Hopefully the scale will move. My current stats- presurgery 235, surgery weight 212, current weight 191. -
What Would Happen If I Cheated?
ariesgirl replied to SkinnyOnMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always find the "cheating" topic interesting because it seems that there are so many different post-op diets. What is considered cheating on a doctor's orders, may not be considered cheating on another doctor's orders. For me, my doctor insists that we do not eat anything but broth, protein shakes, and water the first 4 weeks. Then week 5, we can try cottage cheese, mozzarella, and greek yogurt. On Week 6, we are allowed mushy food. But, when I see what other members post as to their diet, it seems that I should be able to do mushy foods by at least 3 weeks. That is just so annoying to me because I want to eat darn it! Anyways, I guess at this point there is nothing that we can responsibly do except follow what the instructions are. I would definitely not have the guts to cheat on the first week though =) -
March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?
canadianprairiegal replied to DDFinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have u tried switching up food, I was on stall for 1 week, decided to switch it up by oatmeal with yogurt for Breakfast twice a week, 1 egg with 1 oz of cheese, 1 day, the other days Protein shake with fruit. lunch salad, with chicken or ff ham. Or cottage cheese with fruit or protein, Supper protein salad or broccoli/ cauliflower. This seemed to help lost 2 lbs, after that 1week stall, Do not forget take your measurements sometimes that scale is not our friend, inches are just as important. I had my surgery march 8 down 33 lbs, 16 inches from a size 20 to a 14 already. I get on the scale everyday, only because I know this will keep me on track, it also helps me plan on my meals during the day, but this is not for everyone, some need to only get on that scale once a week, and measure yourself once aweek The stall will end, you will lose loads of weight -
Try Ben& Jerrys Frozen Greek Yogurt it is a delicious treat just watch your portion sizes. Its just like ice cream.

Tips for not drinking after eating?
GwSoccermom replied to k-statearmywife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too struggled with the idea of not drinking while eating, it is not only a habit, it is part of the dining experience. Who wants to eat and have a dry mouth? I tried it at first and found that certain foods drove me crazy without a drink (like salty foods). What I do is I wait until I am almost done before I start, but I eat yogurt AFTER I have eaten my protein and most everything else so it cant run through, it has to stay on top. I find that Yoplait Whips are best for this because they are airy not liquidy so I think it should be ok. Just be careful, some of them are addicting. Their new Vanilla Creame' whips are OMG so good and bad. They are not that good since the protien to calories is not what they recommend. I stick to the Fry's carbmasters in the morning (12 protein for oly 80 calories). I figure one of those in the morning should help me satisfy my thirst and keep me satisfied during mid morning, but after dinner I go for the whips, they are mostly air, so they dont wash through the pouch, but sadly, they are 160 calories for 5 grams of protein But they are sooooooooooo yummy. The strawberry are very good to. The chocolate are okish, not worth the calories. Hope that helps XOXO -
At what point do i stop eating?
Melissannde replied to gloglo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try having a cup of hot tea before your meal. That should relax your band just a little bit and make it easier to eat. Bites should be the size of a english pea or a pencil eraser. Chew until liquid. Put fork down between bites. If you start getting stuck to the point of throwing up.. you're definitely too tight and need an unfill. If it hurts to eat.. you need an unfill. If all you want to eat are slider foods (yogurt, pudding, Protein drinks, soups).. you may need an unfill. (good grief.. this sounds like "you may be a redneck" jokes.. hahaha) -
I eat beans, refried beans, Tuna light in water, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese. I dont blend anything because I think you are supposed to start chewing but that just my opinion. Greek yogurt is good and has protein, sf pudding. I mix my protein mix with jello instant pudding cups.

it is hard. no doubt about it. But by trying all the tricks you know to keep yourself occupied you can do it. Some things I found I could do, was make warm tea or a warm drink to sip on. Many times I sipped on chicken broth really diluted but warm. It seems to fill up the spaces. I don't know your diet your clinic put you on, but mine was cottage cheese and yogurt (unflavored) Yuk! Anyone else out there no some tips for zoltrix

SpideyMom, No one has anything yummy at this point. It is hard to get excited about cream soup ,yogurt and protein shakes. LOL, but it is not funny. Maybe in a few days some people will be back on regular food and have some good recipes for us. The chicken sounds delc. and I am going to try it as soon as I am on regular food. I will have to go get a sf Dr. Pepper as I drank all of them before surgery. My how I miss my diet drinks.

Stalling so soon????
determined1 replied to Classiladi13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a great thread, I too am stalled Today is day 15 for me and I lost 21 pounds which is good, but I lost that the first 10 days! It seemed like the stall happened when I started to introduce mushies so not sure if its the different types of foods. I pretty much only eat protein, my meal plan: Breakfast I have a string cheese 9g, mid morning snack protein shake 30g, lunch (one of the following) 1/4 cottage cheese or greek yogurt, ground roasted chicken, or baby food turkey. I get my water in so I'm not sure whats happening, I understand its normal but I never thought it would happen so soon. Does anyone find anything wrong with my meal plan? I'll just hang in there, and hope for the best! Good luck everyone!!
