Experimenting before dr Allows😳
Mhy12784 replied to annanay1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Im not going to encourage you to experiment. But rather if you do experiment, be smart about it. I see way too many posts on here of people doing idiotic things like experimenting with fried chicken or pizza at 2 weeks out. You absolutely dont want to be one of those people. However if you do decide you want to try to push the limits, be smart and do your homework. For example I was craving eggs early on after surgery, but according to my doctors instructions no eggs until week 4 or something. However I saw tons of people on here whose doctors allowed them soft scrambled eggs much earlier and tolerated fine. So I did my "research" and "experimented" making sure to eat only a small amount of eggs and eating them VERY slow. I also did the same thing with PB2 peanut butter powder as well (adding it to smoothies, pudding, yogurt etc). These things were outside of my doctors instructions, but I did it in a slow well thought out way that wouldnt cause me distress. So basically IF you are going to be a rebel. Do it in a matter where you think research and behave in an overly cautious matter. Its a far better option than being one of those people who trys to make blended pizza 3 days out or something else ridiculous. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
ALFxRNY replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I was able to get in 3 shakes and 1 yogurt. And adding the yogurt into the rotation was pushing it honestly. I’m not even hungry. I did have a sugar free popsicle, but that was because it was extremely hot today. I just drank water between protein shakes. I knew they gave me an easy diet, lol. Don’t know how easy the full liquid part will be for the 2 days before surgery. Also, day of surgery I’m going to be feeling dehydrated. No water after midnight and my surgery is late in the afternoon...oh well, I’ll live 😂 -
Not Your Typical Pre Op Diet Post
Sleeved36 replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was definately grumpy about not being able to eat post-op, but that was head hunger and grieving for food. My program allowed scrambled eggs and yogurt/cottage cheese on the liquid diet. After I tried scrambled eggs I felt immediately full and it was tough to digest them. This helped me to see that I really needed just liquids for a while and that it was head hunger bc my body wasn't ready for anything else. It was probably better for my family that I wasn't a grumpy, hangry b***h for 2 weeks before surgery. Just for a little bit after. 😉 I did a low-carb diet once a few years ago (Way pre-op). One day when I got home from work my husband had made mac and cheese and poured a glass of wine. He told me to eat it bc he would rather me be round than bitchy. -
Yes I was cleared for stage 2 a week after my surgery. I'll just stick to yogurts, f**k the creamed soups, they aren't helping. Lol thank you for your advice!!! Sent from my SM-J327T using BariatricPal mobile app

You'e less than two weeks out, don't stress too much! What about greek yogurt? Greek yogurt in sf jello? Can you drink Fairlife milk on your program? It has a good amount of protein. Seems like you are in the mushy food stage, how about the famous ricotta bake? That's easy to add protein to (I used egg white protein powder, it's very flavor neutral, but doesn't mix well into things like soups.) Agree, I still eat these often to boost my protein intake.

Lots of soft foods have protein. Greek yogurt, oatmeal, refried beans, cottage cheese, soft poached fish, split pea soup Also, you might be able to tolerate protein bars soon if you stick with smooth texture ones that don't have seeds and nuts.

Any June 2018 Sleevers in Here?!
Jsteen replied to BurpeeZombie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey lovelies! Surgery day was June 6th and I am struggling with protein shakes. I can’t seem to get them down. Also cold liquids HURT. I have had some Greek yogurt and have had a few attempts at some cream soups. I also had to try some cottage cheese due to a complication I had to take some super strong steroids for. Also is anyone else struggling with eating? I feel like I’m not as progressed as many of you. Tips?? -
Going strong and then failed. Did I ruin my sleeve?
AdiosAnnie300 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 2 days away from 3 weeks post op. I have been following a plan of protein shakes, jello, purée veggie soups with Greek yogurt and water. Today I made the mistake of indulging in more solid food. I chewed to a purée consistency and made sure to not eat more than 4 oz. I had no issues other than the crazy guilt and worry I’m now experiencing. Did I ruin my sleeve? -
I was sleeved on 5/31 im on the purée diet but it’s killing me ; I’m so tired of yogurt and purée I would rather go back to the liquids my doctor says to gradually add real food but my sleeve isn’t working with me !! Be careful I felt fine as well then a few bite (even waiting in between bites) and it all comes back up I didn’t know that the sleeve also had some sort of dumping

What is everyone “eating”post op liquid phase?
sleevedinschool replied to cheesefiend's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried Premier Protein, but it just absolutely doesn't work for me, so I've been having a lot of the Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt, cream soups, sugar free pudding, and a lot of water. -
OK, so today is my second day post-op. I was advanced to full liquids, meaning yogurt, skim milk, cream soup, and watered down cream of wheat. So far, the food is staying down with no problem. I was supposed to be discharged today, but yesterday afternoon I developed a fever of 100.4 and chills, and my blood pressure dropped to 102/48. They’re monitoring my temperature and BP today and I expect to go home tomorrow. I’m not experiencing any pain at all. (I fully expected to be pretty miserable, but I’m not!) All of my food is being served in tiny 2 ounce cups. I’ll add a photo of today’s lunch (tomato soup and skim milk).

I don't see why not - I used to mix in some of the unflavored whey isolate as it cooled. I never tried mixing in the yogurt but that sounds like a good alternative/addition if one isn't restricted to clear liquids at the time.

13 days post op & have questions that need answers!
deardraya posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I’m 13 days post op and am wondering what I could/should do about exercise. I live in the country in Texas, the nearest gym is 30 miles away and it’s HOT out side. Any ideas about what I can be doing to exercise? Protein! I’m definitely not getting enough protein. I can finish 1 30 gram shake and drink protein water. I eat Greek yogurt but am not hitting 60 grams of protein. I think the main reason is I’m so bored of the sweet drinks and I can’t wait until I can hit the puréed food stage. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Fear...I have an obsessive fear that my stomach is going to stretch. I dream it, I cry over it. The main reason is because I can now drink two big gulps of water without my stomach hurting. Granted, I get full, but it doesn’t hurt. I’m terrified because I have yet to figure out what is normal and what isn’t. I read about some people having pain when they eat for months after. I’m not sure if me being able to drink two gulps is a bad thing or if this is what is supposed to happen...gradually getting in more fluids. I know this is a lot but I’d appreciate any answers.- 2 replies

One of my aqaintances gave me this idea. A package of sugar free jello, after mixing it with boiling water stir in a larger size container of greek yogurt, she puts hers in a glass casserole dish, hers is a 2 -3,quart, I think I would use my square cake one, scoops or cuts a little sqaue chunk as a treat. Wonder if you could stir,in a little extra protein powder?

Thank you. You can do it! The protein shakes are pretty low cal, so I think you'll find you'll be ready for the next shake when it's time. I love the Light & Fit Dannon Yogurts. They only have like 7 grams of sugar and I want to say 80 calories? There are some yummy flavors like strawberry cheesecake and lemon meringue pie. They taste like dessert. I can't believe our dates are almost here. It's really sinking in.

Thank you and nice with the weight loss! I’m expected to drink 3 protein shakes a day and have two 100 calorie yogurts in between. Two shakes are super filling to me though so I have no idea how I’m going to pull this off, lol. Best wishes on your surgery! So close!

June 4th surgery twins?
Pearldrop replied to sharaimonique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there. I’m doing great, I stopped all pain meds last week. I’m having no issues with drinking water and can drink between 2 -3 litres a day. I just sip all day, I go back to work Monday so am hoping to keep it up once I’m back in my routine. I have a shake for breakfast every day, and as it is not sweet I think I’ll continue this until I run out of the powder. I also have coffee. I have been having a lot of soups for lunch/dinner. I’ve been adding lots of herbs to give them the taste I’ve been missing. I have either yogurt or protein jello as my afternoon snack. I start the purée stage tomorrow yeah!! -
Cheating on liquid diet
AdiosAnnie300 replied to Dropdeadkim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly, yes. I was 15 days post op and still doing premier protein or broth. I have a physical job nd was feeling sick not getting something solid. I started to add 4 oz of puréed soups with a tbsp. Of Greek yogurt. I tolerated it well and if anything noticed that I need to slow down when I eat. I stayed full longer and had more energy. Today I’m 18 days post op and I have introduced Cottage cheese and egg. -
White bean chili with chicken - YUM! https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/white-bean-chicken-chili except that I use ground chicken rather than cut up. It came out delicious and not very spicy. Put a little shredded cheese or Greek yogurt on top with a little green onion.

I do a lot of food based protein. I do have one protein smoothie every morning that gives me a good "head start" for the day, buy the rest comes from 100% food based. I would research high protein foods and get an idea of what you like vs. what you don't like. Your taste buds could change after surgery, but it mostly has to do with things being overly sweet after surgery. I eat a lot of the following: - eggs, all different ways - Greek yogurt - tuna packets -jerky -cottage cheese -chick peas - Brussels sprouts -Fairllife Milk with sugar free chocolate syrup. -Almonds -Meat, meat and meat. I don't discriminate with meat. I also eat soy meat 2-3 times per week. I find different ways to mix it up, as to not get bored.

June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
NativeTexan replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery is over. Even had hiatal hernia repaired while in surgery. No pain, no vomiting or dry heaves! First week was hardest with clear liquids only. Second week so much better with yogurt & protein drinks for strength. Dr. Ponce was awesome even though he doesn’t speak English! I’m looking forward to eating solids in the future! -
Surgery 4/13. Start weight 391, surgery weight 360, current weight 312. It seems like ages ago...weird. Had a major stall and weight loss has slowed...a bit depressing. So many friends have positive comments about progress but I feel like I’m going to let everyone and myself down. I’m now losing slower and even tho I’m eating less than presurgery. In the last month I have had difficulty with water, which is so strange for me cause I was easily drinking on average 100oz. daily pre and post op. Water now often hurts my stomach. Really trying to control myself but I have had no food issues, which is scary. I feel I could probably eat anything. Worst is a small bite of a cannoli yesterday Daily routine is premier protein shake, yogurt, baked or grilled chicken/beef jerky/or other meat...craving crunchy and salty, so either have a handful of nuts or pretzels or pb cheese crackers (figuring this is problem). Will have small amounts of salad/veggies/fruit but not daily. I need to get more exercise ...doing an hour of water aerobics 3-4 x a week and some walking. We are flying on vacation in September...so feeling anxiety about being comfortable on plane and dining chairs with arms. Maybe I had unreasonable expectations of losing faster? I am better off today than 8 months ago but a looooong way to go. I’m going down instead of up!

I only stayed one night in the hospital. I didn't have very much pain, so I was ok to go home. It was hard to get water down the first few days, but you have to keep at it. I never developed any intolerance to dairy and ate cheese and yogurt all of the time. I was never put on a pre-op diet. You're going to be amazed at how fast your body changes. -
Favorite Healthy Foods after Surgery
istytehcrawk replied to Gundy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The wonton lasagnas are the BEST. I use this recipe as a base but make my own sauce (with ground turkey) and use Greek yogurt-based cream cheese instead of ricotta (which I don't like). http://traceysculinaryadventures.com/2013/03/muffin-tin-mini-lasagnas.html I've made them several times; here's a post with more detail: https://www.bariatricpal.com/profile/332142-istytehcrawk/?status=406246&type=status -
