Had my mini gastric bypass on September 15th and I'm down 12lbs! I know I will fluctuate more than likely but is this normal? Sent from my SM-G998U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Hi! I'm new here and seeking recommendations on what I should be doing now, 1 month before gastric bypass surgery!
  3. Hi Folks, Anyone know why we should not have alcohol for a year (my program's rule)? I know it's empty calories and it goes to the head really fast, but is there some other reason not to drink?
  4. I recently came across an article that stated that a small percentage of women ‘miss the hormone’ mark in that they only lose 30-40 lbs total. This seems to only affect female sleevers. Has anyone heard of this phenomenon. I have been in a weight stall for almost 6 weeks and I have been researching articles to help explain what is happening when I came across this article. now on top of everything else I am questioning my decision not to have bypass over sleeve. I was terrified of bariatric surgery and thought that the sleeve was less invasive even with the lack of long term data on its effectiveness. To say the least I am totally demoralized at the moment and feel that I made the wrong decision. I am three months out which I know is early still but I am scared that the more I heal and the more food I can eat this will lead to eventual weight regain instead of just a stall
  5. I had colectomy for the whole colon and I got approve for bypass next month. I talk to my surgeon and he said YES of course $$$ for them. Anyways I want to know if anyone else had the same both procedure done and what are the drawbacks and complications. Thanks

    Post-op blood thinners

I didn't have to do them at all (gastric bypass), but I know some people do. Probably depends on the surgeon - and maybe individual health/medical condition.
  10. I posted back in August about my surgery getting canceled because of a covid surge in my area. I was devastated and facing losing my insurance. As luck would have it, I got to keep my insurance another month and was rescheduled for tomorrow. I have been trying really hard not to get my hopes up, but I just had my pre-op appointment and so far everything is a go. I’m crossing every appendage I have that tomorrow goes off without a hitch. I’m supposed to check in at the hospital at 10 am.

    Post-op blood thinners

I had the VSG on 18/8 and had to do injections for 10 days. My hospital roommate had a gastric bypass and she had to do 30 days of injections, so it also varies per surgery. Good luck on your recovery!

    September Surgeries!

My Gastric Bypass is on September 21st! 5 days away! I can't wait. But the biggest thing I am dreading is gas pains. I had them with my gallbladder surgery and they were awful!

    SASI bypass

Absolutely no problem! I’m glad I saw your post. Since the surgery is relatively unknown I had no one to ask, so I promised myself to answer anyone who were in the same situation 🙂 1. this was my first (and only) surgery and I’m so happy I chose the sasi bypass! I have had absolutely no problems and minor problems with food (say bye bye to pancakes as your first meal of the day 😂) 2. The first month I was able to eat half a yoghurt, so the weight loss came straight ahead. Please remember that there will be times when you don’t loose weight, up to 2-3 months; these are the times when your body changes the most. Embrace these periods instead of hating them 😎 3. I lost my hair BIG TIME so whatever you can do to prevent this.. 😂 And that is the one thing I wish I knew before the surgery. I looked like a muppet at one point 🙈 I have absolutely no problem recommending this type of surgery for people who are larger than what the sleeve will help you with. I was 150kg and have been steady at around 72kg for a year. I am 180cm. I’m on vacay, so you do the lbs/ft calculation please 😂

    One week from surgery

Evangeline.....I think you need something to distract you. During my "liquid diet" which is not really a liquid diet because you can east one meal at night, correct? The protein shakes should help a lot to quell the hunger and if you start to feel like you are hungry, which you are probably not hungry for real, go for a walk or something to take your mind off it. You should be seeing some weight fall off and that should motivate you. I am rarely hungry and more. The first sign of what feels like hunger I have a glass of water or clear protein drink and it seems to pass pretty quickly. You have to get over the "hunger" or you will be fighting this forever and it will not work. Unfortunately, the surgery is not a magic bullet and if you do not show willpower and control of your "hunger" you are going to lose it and gain it right back. Scroll through all the many posts on this forum and you will see just that. The people who are struggling with the weight are the people who focus on eating and hunger. Without tackling that, the new "tool", your sleeve or bypass will not work properly. A good screwdriver only works if you use it properly. If you do not, you strip the screw head and are in a worse position than before.

    Weight gain after Bypass surgery

I regained 1/2 of what I lost 😠 I used the Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy. I lost what I had gained & then hit my goal weight over 3 years after my bypass. The diet recommends eating a lot of food each day. I couldn’t do that but I did follow what foods to eat in each phase & did it for 1 month. Then I loosely followed along & kept loosing. We just got back from vacation today. We ate way too many bad things so we are gonna do it for another month starting on Monday (it’s easier to keep track of the phases if you start on a Monday). My whole body felt better & my face waits swollen each morning. There is a very good Fast Metabolism group on FB. They are always very helpful & answer questions pretty quickly. you can always send me a PM if you have any questions.

    Not feeling full?

Your stomach is still healing and for some people it's hard to feel 'full' on liquids. Some people don't feel 'full' until they are either on pureed or soft foods. For reference, my own surgery has a VSG stomach... just with an added intestinal bypass bit.
  19. I'll be 61 soon. I had revision from VSG to bypass early last month, in August. I'm 30 lbs. down from my 10 day pre-op to the last time I weighed. Recent metabolism study says that our metabolism doesn't change until 60 years old, and after that 0.7% decrease every year after. https://www.studyfinds.org/human-metabolism-age-60/#:~:text=The study finds humans burn, only 0.7 percent per year.
  20. Hi am 52 years old had gastric bypass October 19,2018. Am almost three years out and the best decision I ever made no regrets . My heights to was 350 am now 184 pounds but i exercise and lift weight . I am happy to say I have a tool to work with because losing weight on my own I couldn’t do it I have disc problems and thyroid issues but now they remove the thyroid issues so am left with the back issues but I still keep active . I can always adjust my tool and lose more weight but I stick to fruits , vegetables , protein which Include protein shake and smoothies and my weight remains the same even through the pandemic

    Sleeve to Ryn...Help

You will need to talk to the surgeon about the length of the bypass and optimizing it for either additional weight loss or just maintaining your current weight. This *might* dictate how much additional weight you might lose.

    September Ops

I’m 6 days post op and have the same problem. I haven’t been able to have more than 1 protein drink a day so far, plus my other fluids. Today i forced myself to have 2 and am currently trying to finish a third. How is your pain? Did you have a bypass or sleeve? I had the bypass. My incision locations do not hurt, injust have this annoying inner pain to the left of my naval. It shoots pain whenever I move. If I didn’t have that, I’d be ok. Todays also the first day I’ve really wanted to eat something. But I have 1 more week in phase 2.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I’m getting the bypass on Oct 6. I’m so excited, but nervous about the physical recovery. I have a physical job and want to be safe, yet be able to go back to work.
  24. I have a gastric bypass revision in the morning at hospital Angeles with Dr. Corvala due to some anatomical issues and I am so incredibly nervous. I feel terrible for leaving my toddler and partner. The hospital and surgeon are highly accredited and great reviews but I’m still terrified. Please say nice things to help me relax lol

    Regret?

No regrets. Coming up on 6 weeks post op. No gerd from my vsg after the revision to bypass. Weight loss satisfactory. Equivalent to the sleeve. I just broke a one week stall, and dropped another 1.8 lbs. What is interesting is I had heard horror stories about "never trust a fart" lol and bowel problems. I almost decided against it but surgeon said I had to fix my gerd... But maybe cause I no longer have severe gerd, everything is literally normal. I feel no difference than before any of my WLS except I get full after a few bites. Having said that, I am early on and hope this positive trend of health continues. I can handle stalls and working to get the weight off but am always scared of leaks and other serious complications down the road. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
