    Driving

My dr said 7 days. However I was driving by day 4 Bc I was off pain meds and didn't see any reason not to.
  2. I live in California. I'm not sure what the law is bc I am a gov't employee and that doesn't apply to us. (They do what they want) I also don't collect unemployment/disability, I have to use my sick leave and vacation days. That is something her staff was adamant about, they said we can't give you more leave per state disability. She made it sound like I was taking money out of her pocket. I made it clear to her that I DO NOT collect.
  3. thanks for your response. And yes, Dr made it clear that I needed to get back in the groove of things which will help with the recovery. It has been my goal to be back in the swing of things. Unfortunately bc of the govt job that I have I cannot return to work until I can perform 100%. Mainly my question/concern is can she force me back to work--not allow me the leave I need just because it's her way??? I honestly felt like she is not being my advocate, and pushing me out to work when I am not physically ready to perform. I let her know every time I had an appointment and she made me feel like it was my fault that I had so much nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. I'm currently looking for another bariatric surgeon. At this time I am safe to return, but I haven't returned bc I have a new health issue that has come up.
  4. I'm a bander and a female but it's the cook part of me that can't resist posting on this thread. I LOVE to cook and that has not stopped since getting weight loss surgery. I can't do a straight-up burger, however. That's a thing of the past. For grilling I need tenderloin or a filet mignon and it needs to be cooked perfectly. Dense Protein is what works well for me. We use only grass-fed organic now. For burger, I cook it down in a hot skillet with garlic and spices for chili. Trick is to cook the meat and then cover over with a good quality organic stock and let it simmer for a very long time. Delicious, and soft -- not gristly, which does not work for my band. So that's my two cents! Good luck on your upcoming surgery. You're going to do great. And PS, one of my favorite NSVs (non-scale victories) is being able to tie my apron double around my waist. OMG, I just love that. And a glass of wine. Like some others, the red kicks off reflux for me now so I have to have cheese with it -- and I drink mostly Savignon Blancs now or tequila.
  5. Yes, my BP in HS was always 90's/50's. They'd ask if I felt okay, all the way up to my 30's it was this way. Guess what...I'm back in that saddle. And it does make huge difference! I can tell when my BS drops, which it's gotten into the 40's since surgery, and my BP is low. You feel weak, shaky, just lethargic almost. Both things to keep an eye on!

    Feel so unsupported

Idk when your surgery is, but if you are like me and your family's opinion weighs more on you more than you like for it to, then I would look for a support group meeting for them to attend or send them links to testimonies. Idk how important it is for you to have any of their approval, but if it comforts you to have it then you should defnitely find a way to peacefully exspress how much you need them. Some people are in different backgrounds and have different family structure. In our culture family is needed in many aspects of our life. So for me to make such a huge decision, it took me a while bc I was terrified of the negative back lash I would receive, I knew ultimately that I couldn't allow myself to go through with it on my mind. I knew that I was going to at least find my back bone (usually on aisle five of Walmart) confront them with my heart poured out as to why this was so important to me. If they still chose not to support me after that, I knew that in my heart and mind that I made the right decision I tried to gain their support, if they couldn't accept that, then they didn't love me as much as I love me by me trying to better my life. A support system is always here if you need it. I'm on Fb support group also. I've been on this journey since July and been hiding it until a few weeks ago bc I could see that through here and other groups that we are all sharing a journey in some shape or form and there are people who are genuinely happy about your journey. I mean between here and Fb there is selfie galore and people are taking the time out of their day to make a comment or boost you up or congratulate you!! We either been there, on our way there, or can't wait to get there! Sorry for the novel and grammatical errors!!

    Things you feel good about?

I'm still in the process of losing but I'm about halfway to my ultimate goal weight I feel great! My body is adjusting to the thinner me as I tend to catch myself slouching a bit sometimes or sitting way back from a table bc of my pre-existing belly hehe I'm waking up feeling good about myself! I'm working my way to going to clothing stores even though I really don't want to lol I am energized in a different way and it feels amazing! I also gained back some of my spunk! I'm a pretty nice and friendly person. My inside personality is finally matching what my outside appearance should have always been. If anything I'm getting noticed by guys and it feels kind of nice. But I have the foggest idea on what I'm doing..I never really had this kind of attention before so I'm kind of awkward and shy when guys compliment me lol But hey in the end of the day I look at myself in the mirror and always say "you are looking great, you are amazing! You've made it this far and you'll keep going. You got this. I love you!" *I've had low self-esteem all my life* SW: 225 CW: 181 GW1: 160 Ultimate GW:130 . I can't wait for this feeling.... Do you have any pictures... I would love to see your before and afterHey girl I'm sorry I've been working nonstop I'll send you a before and after pic tomorrow, I'll be off after 6 eastern time! . Thanks girl ????
  8. Banded 3/19/2012 this summer had to get all fluid taken out. Lost total of 40 lbs, gained back 30 recently. Dr wanted to do revision, bc of stomach coming up over band. Insurance wouldn't pay for new wls so, I said to keep my band. I'm all good now, it went back down with unfill and liquid diet. I go next week for another fill(3rd since unfilled), right now I still have no restriction. With my Dr hating the band now, and not doing them anymore, I feel so isolated. Started local support group this week, but no one has had the band. I feel like I'm on my own. Could anyone give me an encouraging lapband story?

  10. Sleevy Wonder Yes. I found that eating out causes my weight to stall.. When and if I eat sweets it'll be raw honey, fruit, nuts.. But very small amounts bc although these are nutritious, they still have calories
  11. My doc allowed me caffeine. Thank goodness bc I love my coffee!

    Muscle cramps

I had the same problem 3 years ago, i had to go to the hospital and was given IV. Doctor said bc i was very dehydrated and people who also run marathons are hospitalized for it. I forgot what it was called but i clearly remember they mentioned my levels should be around 120 but i have over 2,000. I was in so much pain i could not even move and i had cramps in every part of my body. Try to contact surgeon also.

  14. My surgeon said since i have a lower bmi i only need the liquid diet for 8 days. I would say this time do your best to stick to it, bc if you cant now most likely you wont be able to aftwr surgery. Best of luck.
  15. Here's another one. BS- I could eat anything , anywhere at any time, no planning necessary. AS- I can eat certain things at the correct time mostly at home.
  16. no - I have BCBS fed and I don't know about if the hospital I had my surgery at was a "center of excellence". as far as I am concerned they were AWESOME!!!!

  18. @@forgetit The rumbling and grumbling is acid. It took me a few days to figure it out but you will find that it will rumble and grumble and eating something will not make it go away and you will feel too full to eat that thing anyway. I find that herbal tea and yogurt really helps with that sensation. Also people on this forum are EXTREMELY helpful, positive and supportive. I wouldn't write this place off so quickly. What you are feeling is natural, heck there are some moments in the day when I feel pretty down about not being able to eat carbs, fried food etc. But this is a choice I made and I am not going to take risks with my health which is why the surgeon's nutrition plan is essential. When I am craving sugar, in my mind I also secretly think the diet is BS but that is just a silent mini tantrum moment. The feeling passes very quickly. We are human, we get emotional and now more than ever you will feel that way. You are melting away hormones that were stored in fat and you also have to in a way, let go of a crutch or comfort if that is what food meant to you. We all have a weakness for food, this is why we are on this forum and this is why we did the surgery. It is natural to feel angry and sad in these early days but let's have a reality check moment here. The surgery is already done, its irreversible and there is no point in getting yourself worked up about it. Instead focus on the positive things. Everyday things get better and soon you will find yourself 6 months down the road and all these feelings will be a distant memory.

    Best federal employee insurance

Don't you have BC/BS Federal Employee available to you? Now is the time for open enrollment if you want to pick it up. It is the best insurance I have ever had...ever. My requirements were two years of documented medical supervision for my weight, which was easy enough. I just got a print out of my medical records and highlighted my weight, any comments about my weight, and doctor's suggested for follow-up for the recent two year period. I had to have a BMI of 40 or 35+ with co-morbidities. I had to do a three month nutritionist supervised diet also. Once all of that was done with other medical testing my application packet was faxed in. BCBS approved it in two days. My sleeve was done 12/23/2013.
  20. @@oldmike - I'm sorry for B-52's experience. I have been blessed that I'm still enjoying meat. Grilled meat and BBQ vital to this southern boy. I have no problem enjoying it, but in much smaller serving sizes. I mix my own sauces and I have never considered using stevia until @@dlappjr mentioned it. Will try it this week. The biggest advantage to those who love meat...you can get the really good stuff to grill and since you will only eat 4 ounces at a time I splurge at whole foods getting the best cuts of grass fed, no antibiotic stuff. It tastes great, melts in your mouth. I enjoy cooking up a big spread when the boys are here especially with their buddies. As far as good red wine goes, again a little of very good stuff goes a long way. Any leftover wine makes a great reduction sauce.
  21. Also, calling the diet BS and unfair is why you are getting some of these responses. It not like you don't get to see the diet before surgery and make an educated decision. You made this choice, now you have to live with it. Once you get on soft foods everything is better.
  22. Okay, so I'm only 5 days post-op and I'm at the point where my body is literally starting to eat itself...I am starving, NOTHING helps (and sometimes makes it worse), and I am cranky and mad at the world. Looking at the diet instructions my doctor's office gave me...I think some of this is total bull. No Pasta or bread for SIX MONTHS??? I haven't seen that anywhere else. I am frustrated because a friend of mine had the same surgery 2 months ago with another doctor and she's been allowed to experiment a whole lot more than this plan says I can. The thing is, they give this same sheet to all patients...meaning the bypass patients are given the same instructions as the sleeve patients. And that just makes no sense. My body is not bypassing the gall bladder and all that; I can process things better than a bypass patient. I got sleeve rather than bypass for a reason- it is supposed to be much easier to recover from and I can eat a lot more normal and still get all the results. The only thing really different is my stomach is tiny. Right? So why can't I try some things close to one month rather than 3-6?? I'm just complaining, really, but also wanted to know your experiences and thoughts. I see my surgeon tomorrow for my first post-op appointment and I'm going to talk to her about this, because I don't think this diet plan is realistic or fair.

    Sad Day

i am very sorry that you are hurting but take my advice. i became celibate after my last break up (around june) and not only that but i stopped dating altogether so i could concentrate on ME. My needs, my goals etc. It's been the best thing I have ever done (besides my surgery). I have really been able to see myself and what *I* need. I'm not bogged down with drama and BS of a relationship or someone else's needs. Take this time to concentrate on YOU. What do you need? What are your goals? And live your life. We'll give you support. Best of luck.
  24. Great. I'm sensitive bc my husband had the surgery 4 years ago by an excellent surgeon who had a poor postop network. He's been gaining his weight back. Now that I've had these rules drilled into me, I see that he breaks them all. My group works to prepare us for the second year. The first is considered the "honeymoon" when we don't have much appetite.

    Hormones in meat

I do not just organic but grass fed beef, free range (not just cage free) chicken, eggs, etc. I eat Dubliner cheese and use kerrygold butter both of which you can get at WalMart which is grass fed dairy. I am spending less on food than ever. My sleeve and body like it. I rarely eat out and when I do I just get whatever they have. I really like a "chopt" salad for lunch they use "free bird" chicken. And I get one salad and can eat off it for like 4 meals. I also like the fresh ingredients at Chipotle minus the rice or the tortilla. I just made my own pesto with organic basil. Yum yum. I will be putting on my slow roasted free range chicken and veggies (ratatouille).
