Much as I'm LOVING this initial weight loss . . .
Skinny_Jill replied to Pnw_Red's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My calorie intake was up to about 1000 cal a day within a couple of weeks of being banded. I now eat 1200 - 1300 cal a day. Please don't be alarmed if you gain a little when you increase your calories. That is normal and the weight will start to drop again. Your body needs to adjust when you make changes like that. I was lucky and it didn't happen to me but I was only on liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 4 weeks (probably only 3 weeks) and my calories increased quickly so my body never really adjusted to the super low calories. As a matter of fact my body didn't like that one little bit and I don't lose much my first week. Good luck! -

Honey, enjoy it while it lasts. Personally, my appetite came back (and with a vengence) after about 2 weeks. Getting 'enough' calories was not a problem for me. -
Has this happened to anyone else. My surgery was all set. Pre-op is tomorrow. Dr. Mejias office called THIS morning... ONE WEEK before surgery and said that my portion (the part insurance won't pay) is due before surgery. I had to cancel and they seemed to care less. Just said "ok". The end... my dreams dashed... Hi all! I have a quick question...I am getting my band on September 4th! Yea! I have three children, and I am just waffling back and forth on weather we want one last child. I want to lose like a hundred pounds first, hence the band. I am 296lbs now. I had one doctor tell me that I shouldn't get pregnant with the band because pregnancy would stretch out my band and it wouldn't work the same after the baby was born. Is this true? I really really want to get at goal weight eventually, and I intend on my band being my best friend for life. Will pregnancy ruin it? Will it work the same after the baby is born? Does anyone know where I can find out more about it? Thanks! Carey

I am looking for Protein shakes for my 2 week pre-op diet. I am thinking about the EAS Myoplex Lite. Does anyone else have any suggestions about what they like?

This has been a bad week for me. In January I was table dancing and stepped on the leaf of the dining table I was dancing on, fell right through it(well not table dancing, more like using an old dining table in the garage as a ladder:blushing:) Landed on my left foot/ankle and went to emergency, bad sprain and was sent home with crutches. Went and saw a specialist back in January and he saw me for all of 3 minutes, put me in a velcro boot thingy and sent me on my way....Well it's been 3 months and I still can't put much weight on that foot. So I went and saw another specialist. She was very thorough and had me get an MRI. The MRI showed a split tendon and some ligament tears. Bottom line is I have to surgery to repair the tendon. Sure would have been nice to know 3 MONTHS AGO...The surgery is on April 17th and then I will have 6 weeks in a cast. No weight on the ankle either. The reason I waited so long to see another doctor was I thought my huge butt :lol:was causing the foot problem. I weighed 352 and am 5' 9". I was banded on March 10th and have noticed I can start eating more and more, so I want a fill...ASAP. The good news is I lost 27 pounds, but the bad news is I am starting to gain it back....So I called to get a fill and they earliest I can get in is April 25th. That is really sending me over the edge. I don't want to wait almost 3 weeks to get a fill..... I am afraid I will gain more weight. Especially since I can't walk or exercise for a long time. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. I am just really frustrated with all this. I was hoping to start exercising and losing more weight. And I AM HUNGRY. Thanks for listening.

HI John, You must be very excited about your surgery date on Feb 21st. I actually thought your surgery date would have been sooner than that. Are they booking out about 5 weeks? What is the reason for the semi-liquid diet? Sherri

Ok First Congrats on your new life Second, we all make mistakes, but you have to be every careful during this post op stage, your stomach is still healing. You ate what you did, it happens to some people, but you have to be careful what you do it. Look you have to think about this band as a tool that is going to help you make better healthier choices. Are you going to have some set backs, yes your not alone, we all will. The thing is that you have to look at your choices, you want that Big Mac again, if you can tolerate the bread, have a quarter of it or a bite or two. then throw it away. I have things I love to eat believe me I am with you! But I have learned I eat one or two bites and throw it away and remind myself that it will still be there a month down the road!. Now chin up get to healing and don't suffer over what has been done, just be smart the next time so you wont feel so bad! Also remember some doctors put some Fluid in the band during surgery others don't. So you may not have any restriction but during the 6 weeks of post op pamper yourself and take it easy, this too shall pass! Take Care Sandee -
I cheathed on my post op diet and feel really bad.

Hi Everyone I was banded in early June with a 14cc band I was put on a 4 week liquid diet I have had no restriction (since surgery) at all. Week 3 will be thursday. I can drink the protein shakes/ broth/ soups etc with nothing filling me up. But I've stuck to the liquid stage of the diet. I did really good until last week when I caved in on a drive home and could not resist my craving for Micky D's I ate 2 Big Mac sandwichs, as I ate I cried and said NEVER AGAIN. (A Big Mac was on my list of food i wanted to eat pre band but never got around to it.) It wasin my head and woudn't go away.... They both went down fine and I had no problems with eating them at all which scares me terriblly. I didn't get sick didn't throw up I felt regular..... I went right back to my liquid diet and have stayed there with no problems and no cravings at all. I hate that I caved into one of my cravings I hate that I cheated on my post-op diet the way I did. I also hate that both sandwiches went down so easily nothing getting stuck not being full afterwards etc. I go for my first fill in about 3 weeks and will be a saint till then. But could something be wrong with my band that I was able to eat that much and still feel not really full? Like I've said I've stuck to my liquid diet to a tee until this episode, have lost almost 15lb. I just feel so guilty i couldn't control myself but knowing how I felt afterwards gives me a greater (i hope) willpower to never fall off the band wagon again. (I cried most of the night thinking I might of ruined my band) I'm now a bandster for life I'm just scared of the no restriction I have at all....could my band be so big I have no pouch? I'm praying and hoping my fills give me greater restriction so that when i do eat (and it won't be fast food) I'll have that full feeling. So I'm beating myself up I did the lap band with the best intentions and still believe i can do this after how I felt eating those hamburgers. I'm just scared my band will not work since I was able to eat such a large amount of food could it be b/c the band is not filled yet? Pleaee don't yell at me for what i did I know what i did was wrong and a HUGE NO NO it will never happen again. Just needed to get this off my chest I've felt so guilty since then. Even though I went right back to my pre-op diet. -
I weigh myself every single morning as well, in the buff right after shower. I'm 4 months post op and am down 46 pounds. My weight fluctuates every couple of days by a pound or so. Due to Fluid intake, sodium consumption, etc. For sure, the weight melts off for the first 8 weeks but then I hit a plateau for like 3 weeks before weight started coming off again. No matter to me though, any weight off is still a huge success to me.

I had my second one this week and hope it lasts as well. Good luck to you. 3 hr drive for a fill? Wow.

OCBreeze4U: I returned from a business trip at 10AM on Wed 11th, ate a soft scrambled egg. That afternoon I prepped for surgery (laxative) scheduled for Friday June 13th. I have been hungry since that last egg. Surgery was fine. Obviously I am sore and bruised, but OK. I started the liquid Protein drinks, the broths, etc just as they suggest. I alternate between wanting to kill something and eat the paint off the walls. So far I have lost 21 pounds in 12 days. With the doctors permission, I have started Soups, a real egg, and today I had my first oatmeal and few flakes of tuna. I drink the Protein Drinks, and I am still hungry. Some times it is just worse than others. I see the doctor this Friday for a two week checkup. Last night I work up at 2AM hungry, and prepared a half cup of Soup so I could get some sleep. After this week I can start excercising and try to turn up the body's furnace, so hopefully I can get something to eat. Right now even the dog stays out of arms reach because somehow he senses I see him as a source of protein. Am I making my point. If they tell you you are not going to be hungry - they lie.

If you were banded in the US, there is only one company whose bands are currently FDA approved (Inamed -- though several other companies have bands in trials and may very well be approved soon), thus you have one of three sizes, as Inamed only has 3 bands actively on the market (there are at least 2 others in development). The "standard" band would probably be the 9.75 cm band that holds 4 cc's. There is also a 10.0 cm band that holds 4 cc's. Then, generally for a patient with larger anatomy (whether because it's a bigger person or because the person has a higher BMI and, thus, a bigger stomach due to surrounding tissue), there is an 11 cm band tht holds 11+ cc's. The 11 cm band is called the "VG" or "Vanguard" band. If you're not in the US, there are numerous other companies apart from Inamed (owned by Allergan) that provide options and different sizes of bands.

Greetings... just getting started on this journey after being overweight all of my life. I am 53 yr old single granny raising three grandkids, two are under two...lol. Yes, I am crazy. I never thought I would actually be doing this.. WLS. But I am blessed to have qualified and been approved so far. I have Kaiser insurance and as of now I am scheduled to begin the 12 weeks of required education classes Nov 3rd. I have had and have lots of appts and requirements to meet the next three months. I am scared, excited and very overwhelmed with it all right now. I am thankful at a chance for a new life , where I can be more mobile and in less pain. I work part time as a teacher and am wondering how long I need to take off after surgery? I have lots of questions but they can wait... glad to be here.

Hey everyone!so I start my pre-op liquid diet in 10 days and the closer and closer I get to the liquid diet the more scared I get about leaving behind a whole lifetime of food.i feel like I panicked the past week and tried to get in every last fast food restaurant I could think of because I have this fear that I'm going to miss it so much post op.ive been mentally preparing myself to let go of food since I started the journey of getting the sleeve, but the closer I get to the surgery date the more freaked out I get myself about not ever being able to have these foods again!i keep reminding myself to stay focused on the positives but and I am!but I was just wondering if anyone has felt the way I'm feeling lately!thanks for reading:)

Fast Food As Addictive As Heroin, Study Confirms
Vanilla sky replied to WrenBird's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
WrenBird you need to look up The Diet Solution by Isabella Del Rossi. It's a 15 minute video keep a pen and pad beside you to take a few quick notes. My husband and I started to eat this way back in March and I lost 15 pounds in the first week. If you do let me know what you think. -

My back bothered me more post-op than my front! And now I'm almost 2 weeks out and still have some soreness. Some of the pain is definitely from the gas, but some of it is from how they position you on the operating table, how you "favor" your incisions and stress different muscles, etc. I can feel the trigger points in my back that need to be released and have been working on them, but so far, no good. But much better now than last week!
