  1. On my invoice, the procedure is just called BRACHIOPLASTY. The side boob skin removal is not considered part of the arm lift/brachioplasty with my surgeon. It is part of a separate procedure invoiced as BILATERAL BREAST REDUCTION REVISION, which is basically a breast lift with auxiliary breast removal from flanks. My doc is awesome as he is charging me with a revision instead of a first time breast lift (which really is what I am getting but is about 5K less expensive) as I had a breast reduction several years ago, and he is already going to be there doing the arm lift anyway. With that said however, I did speak to another surgeon (who I didn't end up going with) who combined the arm lift and auxiliary breast removal (without breast lift) and he called it BILATERAL ARM LIFT WITH CHEST WALL EXTENSION. He wanted to do it as one continuous incision. Edited to add: Neither my surgeon nor the other fella I mentioned above post patient photos on their websites (I had to go in for appointments to look at their patient results books)

    2020 Surgical candidates

I think its a scam - I consider myself to be a guro on vitamins and nutrients. They are easy and in no way deliver the daily punch you need post surgery - I just did a post and below is a pic of my supplements. This is a key and once you good at Vitamins and Minerals you will be feeling so good and so healthy the weight lose is a bonus. I can honestly say i beat the hell out of this body and never did Vits/Minerals and good food for 52 years. The weight loose is great but if you combine the weight lose with VIt./Min supplement program you will have double the pleasure and healthiness. Learn the game - rates, levels, etc. It is about getting it all balanced and effective without having to eat 12 pounds of vegetables. You got lots of time just read past the marketing,

    skin removal

would anyone be willing to share with me what they paid for skin removal and if they were happy with the results? I'm looking into to get an idea of what the costs are
  4. I dread the grocery stores - they are sooooo cold. If I need a frozen item, I almost run to get my item and get out! I work in a hospital, which are always cold. My fingers are freezing all day long - from the AC and also from hand washing all day long. My poor patients! I try so hard not to touch their skin!
  5. I was a good boy for 3-4 weeks - To much pain! Now as you loose weight its game on! I consider it a form of exercise!

    Preventing Loose Skin

I agree that it depends on how much weight you have to lose, your age, etc. Everything does shift around a bit within a year or so after you hit your lowest weight, making you look better, but still, many of us still deal with excess skin even after that. If that's the case with you, the only way to get rid of it is plastic surgery.

    insurance tips for plastics

be careful with this. my insurance covers a panni..and breast reduction.. but after my consult with my dr and she showed me what the ins will cover vs what could be done.. i am not going to go through the insurance. the panni only covers the skin below the belly button.. i have a lot more skin than that to be taken care of. and for the breast reduction there needs to be the amount of tissue there to remove. you also have to have medical issues that require the panni and breast reduction with all of the issues documented through the dr.. rashes, infections, in ability to move.. for the breast reduction, soreness. indents in shoulders, cup size has to be larger than a ddd.. marks left on upper abdomen from them constantly rubbing against it.. i used to have all that, but since the weight loss i dont.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

Most up to date thing I have done? Had my 1st of 2 Shingrex shots, they have to be spaced no less 2 months apart, no more than 6, woke me up in the middle of the night throbbing. I had the original kind in August 2013,turns out it's effective rate is 60% where- as yh8s New variety is almost 99% , so while I was hurting anyway I put an extra layer of clothing on, took some tylenol with codiene, yep one of my secret hoard of Norco, still have 11 left from last 2 surgeries, and walked outside until the rascel kicked somewhat in, figured this ranks as making lemonade out of the lemons one is given- will I get the second in January 2020? WE'LL See, WE'LL See, maybe by then I'll forget it hurts like someone whipped and whopped me with a 2 by 4 THERE- almost on level with my right humeral FX in January 2010 and that was BAD, almost was compound, you could see the bone 1 or 2 inches below the skin surface and bruised worse than an over-ripe 🍌 bananas Oh I'll get through this challenge too, I'm a Tough Old 🐔Hen after all!

    Preventing Loose Skin

Depends on the amount of excess skin to be had. It can take up to three years to skin to retract to the full extent it is going to. How much it retract, if it does, depends on many things - genetics, total amount weight loss, history of multiple big losses and gains (skin will lose elastricity regardless of good genetics), age, environment. I think the exercise thing could be useful if there isn't a lot of excess skin, by building muscle you are proving some support to the excess skin thus making it less saggy. I doubt this would be helpful if there was a lot of excess skin though.

    Preventing Loose Skin

Hi everyone, I was in nutrition class this week and the nutritionist told me that I can help myself with the excess skin by exercising before surgery. How does this even work? What have you all done regarding loose skin aside from surgery?

    loose skin

I have found that with time, the skin actually is tightening up - especially under my neck, arms, thighs, and tummy. A few months ago, I was ready for a total body make over, but now I think best to let at least a year to pass after reaching goal - just to see how everything ends up. The boobs are hopeless, but the rest is looking a lot better.

    loose skin

what do you guys do to help improve your loose skin look and feel?
  15. No, it's not going to be a continuous incision, my surgeon had said he doesn't do this for a few reasons, the main one being that with a continuous incision, there is a risk that the part where there is a "curve" (i.e., in the armpit) may form a "skin webbing" during healing (and end up looking like the skin at the base between your fingers) .
  16. I am a newbie still in the early stages of the process. Finding this forum has been a good thing as I hear what others have gone through. As I am researching having WLS for myself, I want to pose a question that I am trying to formulate a ready response for. How would I explain to someone who has not struggled with weight why I cant just simply reduce my intake and viola! I can loose the 120 lbs I need to lose? It seems there are some people who assume I just don't have any willpower, and that weight loss is simply a behavioral problem. Over the last 25 years it seems I gain a little at a time, then when I try to lose, my body lets me drop 15 lbs then stops everything. I hit that plateau that I have never gotten past despite having worked REALLY hard on. I will tell you... I am an engineer with two masters degrees and two board certifications. Will power has never been one of my problems. I don't eat bad, and have taken even further steps over the last year to eat right. No pizza, pasta, sugar, etc. I eat a lot of lean meat and greens. The problem is I lose to a point then my metabolism seems to stop; my body waits me out and then if I lose my routine for a few days (like traveling) then I lose momentum. In the past, weight loss efforts ultimately stop because I get demoralized and I give up and quit caring. I dont need to give anyone an answer to why I am choosing WLS.. Frankly its none of their business; however, I do want to know what other people have found to explain this metabolic resistance. I know Grehlin is responsible, but what have you all come to on this?
  17. I have thought about in the long term postponing but I don't want to get surgery and wear compression garments in the summer so early spring would be best. I really don't want to go another summer wearing 3/4 length sleeves to hide my arms. I am also thinking that if I don't have as much loose skin and fat on my arms then if my body changes a bit or if I gain a few pounds it could actually be better ie fill in my saggy boobs or wrinkly butt. That may just be wishful thinking and it would go straight to my feet or something bizarre.

    What...What Is This? Lol.

Hi! So this may sound like a stupid question but I just joined this site, forgive me. Is this section for dating as in like...dating-dating? Or is it more for advice for single WLS patients? Lol, again, sorry if this sounds stupid. If it's for advice, what have been people's general experiences with WLS and dating? Are people who haven't been through or are unfamiliar with it usually understanding when you explain it them? I'm thinking it's probably hit or miss like with anything else when it comes to dating. But still, a date may wonder why you're not eating this or that, etc. I'm afraid of looking weird when going out like when I have to ask for smaller portions or having to explain my dietary restrictions. Lol and admittedly, I'm also nervous about sex. While I've dated plenty, I've never actually had sex with anyone (gasps! LOL). I was always too uncomfortable or shy about how I looked as a heavy person. But now, I'm thinking I'm probably going to feel the same as a lighter person because of the expected loose skin. 😕 I've heard some pretty fierce horror stories from the support group I was attending at my WLS Center. From what I've gathered, dating isn't very successful and a lot people who were already married claimed their spouse couldn't be with them anymore because they became "too high maintenance" or jealous of their weight loss. Even our MODERATOR was telling us her husband cheated on her because he got too jealous of her weight loss and couldn't handle all the changes she had to make in her life because of it.
  19. My bariatric office didn't care because I exceeded their weight loss expectations by a lotttt; they said I would only get to 165 at best. The plastic surgeon also had no opinion. He said I can do it whenever I feel I am ready. My weight has been between 129 and 133 for 6-ish weeks now and my dietitian said if I lose more weight, I need to gain it back so if I go lower post-plastics, it won't really impact the plastics because I'm supposed to gain it back. If that made sense. I am one year post-op today. If I wanted insurance to pay for my tummy tuck, I would have to be 18 months post-op. I don't think they'd approve it anyway since I don't have rashes or anything so I'm just paying myself now. I'm so ready for this. I had a breast reduction in 2017 and I am SO GLAD I did because my boobs would be SO DROOPY after all this weight loss (they were a 48H and taken down to a 46D.... and are now a 36B). So even if I lose (or gain) a little more weight... I doubt it will have any real impact on my skin.
  20. My surgeon said it was all preference: If I don't want to see it, choose back of the arm. If I don't want others to see it, choose the inside of arm. With that said, I chose inside-the-arm (coming soon end of December btw, super stoked) because: 1) I have been known to be "hyper-pigmentation-y" and I will likely have thick scars for a while (my WLS scars are still very dark and visible) and I don't want people (both strangers and ones known to me) to ask me: "What happened to your arm?!?" 2) I am also getting skin removal on my side boob, so there are going to be scars under there anyway.

    Alcohol

So I will probably get a lot of kick back from this, but here it goes. Alcohol seems to be such a compromising issue for so many folks. The truth of the matter is, that NO amount of alcohol is good for you. Yes, there are antioxidants in red wine, but even very light alcohol consumption increases risk of throat, mouth, and GI cancers. Alcohol is a very strong chemical that is damaging to living tissue. Period. Think about why an alcohol swab is used on your skin before a shot. It cleans and kills. There is absolutely no reason for a bariatric patient, of all people, to drink alcohol. Yet, it is so hard to make the total break. It is the same argument I hear all the time with patients who smoke - "I just smoke 5 cigarettes a day," "I just smoke a pack every week," "I just smoke socially." When we all know that ANY amount of smoking is not good for health. All I am saying is that if we make this huge effort to improve our health with WLS, and we are willing to make total lifestyle changes to be successful in the long run for life, why do we try to compromise and flirt with seeing how much we can get away with concerning alcohol? Is it our addictive nature? Is it social pressure? It is a bit of rebellion? I believe it is a issue that is worth exploring deeply for each person and really asking the hard questions about WHY it is so important to continue drinking at all when there is absolutely no benefit, and only harm that can result. So fire away at me. I've said my 2 cent's worth and won't bring it up again.
  22. i'm so excited for you.... and it just breaks my heart to hear your story..... I never had a weight problem till in hit my 30ies also. At 42, 5'2" and 232lbs i was miserable..... My life was not good. My husband stopped having sex with me and we lived in the same house, but we were strangers. You would think after being married for as long as we were we would know each other..... I thought if i would just lose the weight he would want me again. I was sooooo wrong. I started my WLS journey in the summer of 2009. One of my very good friends had the Lapband and she looked amazing. We worked at the same place so i know insurance would cover it. She coached me along the way. I told my husband that i was thinking of having WLS and he, like your husband, didn't want to hear anything about it. But, i was convinced that having it would fix all my problems, and it did fix a lot of them. On nov 10, 2009 i had the band surgery. In the first year i lost over 60lbs. I was so happy with how i was looking. The next year i lost another 20+. Total WL 89lbs. Went from a size 20 to a size 4-6. I looked great. My confidence was through the roof. Attention from others was intoxicating. But i still could get the one person to encourage or support me. and even though i lost the weight..... still no sex, no life. In 2012 i had a TT to remove the apron skin. Because i thought.... thats what is wrong. he hates looking at my saggy skin. Nope, in fact the TT made things worse. He hated my new confidence, my new body EVERYTHING!!!! So after all the years i realized that it wasn't me... it was him. January 2016 i filed for divorce. Not saying its for everyone.... but it was the best decision of my life. it was like a thousand pounds was lifted off me. In may of 2017 my divorce was final. I met the most amazing man.... If i could tell you all the things he does and how he treats me, yall would think i was lying..... 5 weeks ago we got married. In march of 2017 i had to have my band removed and gained 30lbs. He still love me and wanted me.... everyday. But i was unhappy with my body. So Aug 28, 2019 i had the sleeve done..... down 27lbs.... and super happy..... with everything. so i guess the moral to my story...... be happy with you and do this for you.... get support from a support group... don't think that havig WLS will make him come around.... cuz he might not.... i certainly hope sooooo ..... i wish you all the luck in the world.... message me if you want. chris....
  23. I have my arm lift in less than 3 weeks. I'm going to come up with some badass story about my scars. Scars don't bother me at all (better than saggy skin and stretch marks, imo), but I'm still going to tell people I escaped prison through barbed wire.

    4 weeks out

I stalled at 3 weeks. It was so frustrating especially after watching weight fall off first 2 weeks. About a week later I started loosing again. It’s just your body getting use to the changes. Hang in there

    Lower body lift APPROVED!

Yes. I had a few things, documentation from my bariatric surgeon, documentation from my OBGYN (sorry if TMI but my loose skin was causing irritation in my public region), documentation from my primary where I had 2 yeast infections inside my belly button due to the skin fold. I had visits spanning from about 5+ months before I decided to see a plastic surgeon.
