    Diet supplements

Do NOT take Xenadrine. I took it years ago when i was young and stupid. It was like someone put me on fast forward - heart racing, jitters, shaky - it was awful! There's really no reason to take any of that stuff. It will just do harm - no good.

    I miss my pain meds!

Are you getting up and around? I was done on the 27th and given 40 oxycodone and haven't even used half. I take Tylenol as needed (1-2 times a day) but I've been up and about since day 4 and at first it sucked but I think it's what helped with my pain. My only pain left is abdominal wall below my largest incision and its a 1/10, 99% of the time. I have also used a heating pad since the day I got home, it lived on me the first 48 hrs I was home and now as needed (note: don't fall asleep with it on I actually left marks, they faded but essentially I burnt myself) If you continue to be in pain I would call back and demand an appt at this point you should definitely be turning a corner. Do you know how many doses you had? I'm just curious if you used too much too fast and they are resistant to fill because of that.
  10. I was released for alcohol at 3ish months. Doc warned me it's wasted calories so just don't go overboard. I drank Riesling the first time, and it hit me kinda hard and fast, but wore off pretty fast as well. I drink socially now, and have a glass of wine once maybe twice a week. I've tried margarita, and they didn't settle well. But, mixed drinks, rum/coke, and various shots work just fine. My tolerance is like it was pre-op, it doesn't hit me hard and fast, and I can maintain a decent buzz. I don't drink a lot, but when I do, the big plus is that I rarely get a hangover anymore.
  11. I was quickly on the way out of the house with my husband and son... my other son was sitting there eating Chinese, so what do I do? I grab a too big piece of chicken with my fingers and eat it way too fast while walking to the car. almost instantly I knew I was stuck. we pulled over and I had alot of slime, then finally spit up the chicken. uggg... good reminder though. im glad it wasn't stuck longer. :-(

    Help! Just newly sleeved

Have you told the hospital staff about what is going on? I didn't have any type of Soup until after I cleared 17 days of clears. Not everyone can progress as fast on the post-op diet. Your body has been traumatized, and it may not like what you are putting in the sleeve. If the hospital staff knows what is going on, demand to have a ct scan, or a leak test performed, something because you are your best advocate for excellent healthcare. Do NOT allow anyone to tell that it is 'normal' or that you are 'fine' when you feel like you are not. You do not want to get dehydrated, as you mentioned.
  13. Hey all... just wanted to get some opinions and see if anyone else had any similar situations... I'm around 5 months out and doing great. I've lost 100lbs. I feel good, great energy levels, I should be exercising more but I'm very active. I just moved from the DC area to Dallas about 1.5 months ago. We are seeing record highs here with 30+ days of 105+ temps. Yesterday I was outside for a while and I overheated. It was about 104 ish and I had been drinking Water (but I'm guessing not enough.) I've never experienced this. I'm sure I'm still getting used to this weather. But I wanted to check and see if folks have noticed any issues post op with dealing with the heat and such. Once the light-headedness hit I sat down and started drinking water as fast as I could. Post op I'm not able to drink water as fast as I could pre-op and I'm guessing the played into how long it took to recover. Does anyone have an experience with heat and activity? Any tips? Anyone drinking Gatorade? I think they have a low/no sugar version? Thanks!

    25 Lbs Gone

Let me introduce myself, my name is Amy and I am a 27 year old mother to a wonderful lil 3 year old boy who was born with a very rare brain disorder. I was sleeved on December 21st 2011 in Canon City, Co by Dr. Timothy Brown. My pre-op process was very fast moving and with-in 1 month of asking my then primary doctor about getting the sleeve, I had met all the requirements and was scheduling the date for my surgery. I chose to do the sleeve for several reasons but my biggest reason was to be a healthy Mother for my son. I was on over 8 prescription medications for BP, high cholest, diabetes, sleeping aids, heartburn and more. I have never really been a "small" girl but after my mother passed in the same year my son was born (2008) my weight sky rocketed. My son is non-verbal and among many other health issues he is also not walking or crawling yet. I am now unable to work because my days are full of providing the special needs care my boy needs. I noticed that I had begun stress eating, and moving around a lot less due to spending 80% of my time at doctor appts or playing with him on the floor. I found out that my son would be starting a special needs pre-k in January and knew I had to get my health in check because I now have no excuses for time, 3 hours- 4 days a week I have free. I am over a month post-op now and about 25 lbs down. I weighed 220 the day of surgery but had been as heavy as 235 in the past. I am extreamly excited to have lost the weight and be off most of the meds but I am having this horrible case of the " not doing good enough blues." I have reached a point that I have lost most of my motivation because shortly after surgery my son's health issues flared up and it took me until just 4 days ago to get my gym membership. I also have the biggest frustration about my food intake. I can eat anything I want and am 1 of those lucky sleevers that does noit get sick or barely even uncomfortable if I overeat/ eat the wrong things. My will power has really had to play a huge role in my eating lately but everytime I eat even the smallest bite of a "wrong" food I feel like crying because I want to be sick, I want to have a low tolerance to bigger portions but now all I can do is deal with it. This is the 1st time I have ever blogged and just like I could talk anyones ear off I am certain I could type a novel so I will stop for now but what I will say is this... I do not and will never regret my sleeve. Every person is different and even though I am lossing weight I know it is only half my battle. Seeing the numbers drop on the scale is one thing but being mentally prepared and motivated is what is really going to make all the difference. Just my opinion

    Suddenly Saliva!

Sliming is excessive saliva that begins to form due to a number of things: like eating too fast, taking too big of a bite, eating something that doesn't agree with you (like maybe fibrous foods, dry chicken, meat, bread for some). It can happen frequently when your too tight. Pbing is when you actually "throw up" a little bit (maybe the last couple of bites) from again eating too fast, too much, too big of bites, being too tight, etc. Alot of times, the pbing is just the excessive (thick) saliva that has gone down and needs to come back up. Pbing doesn't always come with sliming, but it can and it's a signal that you need to pay more attention to your eating. Hope that answers your question.
  16. I've had the same issue, I noticed it a lot last week. I related it to possibly eating too fast or too much. It is quite uncomfortable. The pain tends to go up my left side of my neck so i wasn't sure if perhaps that was something musculoskeletal going on. Any ideas?

    Hurting...

I agree w/ AJ. Sounds like you may have either eaten too fast or taken too big of bites. It is very easy to do as we are learning. So remember to take tiny bites and chew (even in the mushie stage), then wait 30 sec. - 1 min before taking 2nd bite. Doing liquids for a day or two until it feels back to normal is a good idea though.

    Lopez/pv, Garcia/tj. ?

HI I had sugery on Oct 20 in Puerto Vallarta with Dr Lopez. Hotel is Casa Magna Marriott. Hospital is big and new about 20 mins from your hotel. You get compressions put on prior to the surgery. Nurses were wonderful if i needed something it was done fast. As soon as your able after surgery walk, i was up about half hr after I was brought back to my room. Im from Canada so I was worried about clots. The hotel is amazing, just walk lots, i had jello there and it was enough for three meals so i took back to room. They also have broth which is very good. Karen, Dr Lopez's assistant is wonderful and she'll help you wit anything you need. I stayed a couple extra days and I was fine, no problems just a little heartburn that was gone after meds were given. I went thru Alighter me with Janese, everybody was wonderful and helpful so glad I went to Puerto Vallarta.

  21. Distraction is one of the hardest things to overcome for we bandsters. It's so easy to fall back to a lifelong eating habit when we don't pay attention. I say this as I sit here with this golf ball stuck in my own chest. Put my omelette back in the fridge since I may not get to it for another hour. I wasn't really distracted, just greedy and ate too fast. Either way, not a lot of fun?
  22. I need sought of a fast answer from someone who knows. I have a 14cc band and I have a 8cc fill. I ve been trying to see if beer has affected me and so far I have no problem. My restriction is minimal and can eat anything so far the only problem I have is in the morning it seems like I can only handle liquids but the rest of the day anything. I would like to know if I drink beer on the cruise (which I reserved before I decided on band) would I be doing any damage. I m scheduled for a fill when i get back which the dr. said he will do as I request on the amount since I really don t have restiction. The cruise is tomorrow so I ll be happy with any fast replies. Thank you in advance
  23. So I am bit down. Let go back from the begining: Jan of 2010 I was at my highest ever, 271! From Jan to August I lost 40 pounds. In August I had my first consult for the surgery. On Nov 23rd I was at 220 with my 2 week pre op diet. Now here I am Feb 14th, I know not even 3 months and I have lost an additional 29 pounds and I frustrated as I have pretty much stalled since Jan 18th. I went up 4 pounds after starting the pill which I quit 2 weeks later and now yesterday I finally got down to 191 again where I was when I started the dang pill. So I am sitting here trying to rationalize with myself that 29 pounds in under 3 months is huge, yet there is this nagging feeling that it should be more faster! I am in a daily guilt fight with what I put in mouth even though I have not ate any bad foods since the surgery. I don't do breads and I watch carbs like crazy. I try to keep them under 30 a day. I guess I am wearing myself out emotionally with the fight to lose in what I perceive is not enough fast enough. I get down when I see folks losing 40 or 50 pounds in 2 months and think what am I doing wrong? I know when I look in mirror the person looking back is not bad at all compared to what I used to see, but when I look at my belly and legs I see the fat left to loose and feel like yuck. I have avoided buying any clothes as I keep thinking it will be a waste because I should loose more weight soon, but deep down I am not trusting that is going to happen any time soon because of the stall. (See the head game????) Just for example a typical day of food is like this for me: 1 160 cal, 30 gram Protein shake Greek yogurt with torani syrup or one with the fruit already. 2 or 3 oz of chicken or one of those tuna cans with crackers some days a afternoon snack of a 160 cal, 15 protein power bar more chicken for dinner.
