Has anyone ever had issues with getting your test results from a required specialist? I went to a cardiologist a week ago and was not given the paperwork results for my echocardiogram. This clinic has no website where I can view my results and the doctor is hard to get in contact with unless you make an appointment and the wait times at this place is horrible (be well primary in Brooklyn). How did you guys get around this problem if you ever had it?

This last 50 pounds is the bane of my existence!!!
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm guessing it could be a stall, but when I do lose, it's soooo little and it takes soooo long. I can tell you this.....my body might like this weight, but I sure don't. There has to be a way to force my body past this point so I can lose the rest. No way do I want to stop 50 pounds away from my goal weight. No way, no how. -

The last pounds are the hardest to lose. A real b*tch. But could you be experiencing a stall. I recall you were prone to them with your sleeve. Also don’t forget your new set point. Could this be the weight your body is happiest at?? How long has it been since you lost anything? For those who are interested, Dr Matt Weiner posted a video about set point (metabolic thermostat) a couple of days ago. Others, like Dr John Pilcher, will likely have good videos too. -

It looks like you've lost 30 pounds since your revision about 3 months ago. So the scale is moving, just slowly? I feel for you, wish I could give you a hug and tell you to your face what a badass you are. -
I'm so excited, I got my surgery date today and we finalized all the details of the surgery!!! I'll be doing the duodenal switch with a longer common channel since I have a history of vitamin D deficiency and anemia. The surgeon talked to my GI specialist and they signed off of on it so everyone is on board thankfully. We picked December 13th, since I'll be in New Zealand for most of November. He said 2 weeks is standard for their liver reduction diet but if I added in a gradual 3rd week it would probably help as a bonus week. Their liver reduction diet is 2 shakes, 2 snacks and a lean, green dinner until one week before surgery, when it switches to all fluids. So basically I'll be starting the diet as soon as we get back from traveling... I already have 7 flavors of premier protein shakes in my closet. LOL (They require the shakes be either those or the bariatric advantage powder as per some study they are following). I'm really happy to be at this stage of everything, I know the 2 months will fly by fast!

Just did my 3 month check up yesterday (my actual 3 full months is on October 10th) ... I've lost 60 lbs since surgery day on July 10th... I've actually gained more muscle also (I've been lifting weights while on this journey. I had a goal to lose 100lbs in the first 4 months but I'm satisfied with the path I'm on now.

@gabbieox7 I'm going through the exact same thing. At 3 weeks I couldn't eat/drink anything without getting sick. I went in and had a scan and everything looked normal, the doctor even had me get fluids. I'm not 4 weeks post op and still having the same issues. Some days are worse than others. The doctor did say it can be normal for sleeve patients. I just want to feel normal again.

Had surgery for GERD, need to gain weight... suggestions?
pintsizedmallrat replied to jesscanntoo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
The only area of caution with that is to get to that calorie number, it's got sort of a lot of sugar for people like us, and if OP is susceptible to dumping syndrome, they will need to either break it up into multiple, manageable servings or choose something less glycemic (the only reason I say this is that I have been in that situation myself, and those Ensure shakes made me dump if I drank the whole thing in one sitting. I had to break them up into 3 "parts" and would drink 1/3 30 min after each meal) -
I'm currently 4 weeks post-op and have been having a hard time. I can't get my liquids or protien in. I went to the doctor last week and they had me get IV fluids to help out. I just feel nauseous all the time. I am taking zofran to help with that. I feel like things are never going to get better. Any advice or just some reassurance would be great.

Hi there, Generally doing okay but have had a couple of bad days where I’ve struggled with cramps and bloating. Drinking water going well but some foods still upset my tummy. Weight loss has been steady. Lost 26kg ( 57.2 lbs) since my surgery on the 17th of July. Have my 3 month check up soon.

Hi, yes I too had a dreadful week last week of impending doom and what have I done. It was a horrid feeling and I just couldn't see how I would ever feel 'normal' again. I was desperate about eating the wrong stuff, eating too much, never being able to eat again etc. Just starting puree today so maybe I'll feel a bit more positive this week. Good luck to you on the beginning of your journey to better health -
4 weeks post up - acid reflux has returned
Keona1323 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi All, I had a sleeve revision to mini bypass 4 weeks ago. I had a brief period of relief from the acid reflux (due to GERD) but now it is back. I am taking a PPI every PM and find I wake in the middle of the night with a burning bile sensation. I chew a few tums. Also during the day, I don’t have much of an appetite (yay) but I find that if I don’t eat every 3 hours or so, the burning returns and I can taste bile. Has anyone had this? I had really hoped this revision would be the end all for this issue and I was so optimistic but now I’m almost worse off than before the surgery……. -
Mine is a PA. The key differences between the role of a PA vs. an MD come to light when complex issues arise. MDs have knowledge about complicated conditions that many PAs may not possess. I was not happy to leave my family doc of many years for her to begin with. But my insurance changed with work, and he was no longer considered in network, sadly enough. My company has their own doctors and pharmacy, and the coverage is amazing, but the choice of doctors there are limited. Yes, before ever considering WLS, I wanted to find an internist to sort out all the meds I was on. Some I knew were necessary, some were preventative and some questionable. To be told that I will be on all of them the rest of my life after my bariatric team told me otherwise was disappointing to hear and questionable. She's always been quick to prescribe meds. I didn't see her often but when I did, I always walked away with one or two more. She prescribed Ozempic to me years ago before it became a thing. I didn't take it long, after reading it caused tumors/cancer in mice plus it made me feel horrible every day. Then recently, when I saw her to get a release for WLS, she wanted to put me back on it. I declined. Ironically, we had a discussion about Ozempic face at that time. She told me if I lose too much weight in my face after surgery, to look her up and she will fix it. She owns a business that does fillers. botox etc. So she lives in that world. I guess I've always felt that since she is a PA, she may not be as knowledgeable as an MD when it comes to medication. But I will wait to see what the bariatric team tells me first before deciding anything. Like assuming I would change doctors based solely on her looks? I recently had 3 of her patients tell me they already changed doctors for some of the very reasons mentioned here. So nothing "snap" about it. If anything, I'm biding my time and giving her the benefit of the doubt. For now. Agree... I'm more holistically minded and need a doc who's likeminded. Not someone that hands meds out like candy. I'm not working this hard to be told I can never reverse the need for them. I realize it will take time and I may not be able to eliminate all of them but just never tell me never. Not yet anyway.

May 2023 surgeries
CarolineLittle replied to WVJess2Less's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just checking in. It's 21 weeks since I was sleeved now. I'm down to 120.9 kilos, for a total loss of 34.1 kilos, or 75 pounds. I've lost exactly 22% of my total weight. I'm 5.9 kilos away from being halfway to my big goal of 75 kilos. Everything is going well, I need to be better with fluid and definitely need to be more active. My weight loss is very obvious, especially in my tummy. Down about 3 dress sizes I think, I haven't really been clothes shopping yet. I do need to though, especially for pants. I still have tops I can wear that were once too tight. I hope you're all well and @SynleeI hope you're closer to getting answers. -
Best way to get protein
CarolineLittle replied to TiffanyY2's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Frozen Yoghurt. I have a Ninja Creami and it's been the best thing ever. I have one or two serves (170mls a serve) every day. Always one at night, sometimes for breakfast too. They're usually at least 23 grams of protein a serve, up to a whoppimg 30 grams, depending on the brand of yoghurt I use and flavour. My faves lately are good old Vanilla and Malted Milk. I often have at least one low carb wrap with cheese a day too, that's around 15 grams of protein. Lately I've also been adding salsa before heating it up, nom nom. I'm a vegetarian and it can be hard to get my meals anywhere over 12 grams of protein, so the frozen yoghurt and wrap help a great deal and are delicious, I'm consistently getting 80 to 90 grams of protein a day at 21 weeks post sleeve. Yesterday was 101 grams! I've had the Creami for a couple months now I think. -

Revision Surgery Recommended for Hiatal Hernia?
swimbikerun replied to Kim 713's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 1 day less than 2 weeks out of a para esophageal sliding hernia repair and Sleeve to RNY revision. My reflux, BAM is gone. I'm not vomiting or feeling like yuck. My surgeon could do a DS and has. I'm not having problems and while it doesn't mean I will or won't later, at least I'm free of the medical issues and the like I had before. I'm also down about 35 pounds in the little over 2 months since I got sick. Really happy as the medical issues were outweighing the weight, especially at the end. -
Best way to get protein
BlondePatriotInCDA replied to TiffanyY2's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yes!! I tend to stick to the same foods. I'm not sure (for me anyway) is: 1. Fear of food effects 2. Not losing the weight 3. My hatred of cooking 4. I just know I like what I'm eating or 5 A combo of all of them! Of course I'm only 6 weeks out sooo we shall see, but, to be honest I've always been a picky eater (I almost died as a toddler because I was picky) - I just know what I like! -
Had surgery for GERD, need to gain weight... suggestions?
jesscanntoo replied to jesscanntoo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My team hasn't responded to me. That was one reason I came on here... so surgeon is silent so far. That said, i am definitely still drinking protein shakes or wouldn't be getting in the amount of protein I need....although I am also doing Oikos greek yogurt and soft cheeses. I was trying to add the pasta on top of stuff, because at the rate of loss I am experiencing I will be under 100 pounds soon and I cannot afford that in terms of my height to weight ratio. I've already lost 16 pounds in just a few weeks and can't go a couple of months until I have the ability to be less restrictive. I hadn't thought of custard or adding milk powder to my soup however. I'll try both of those. Thank you. -
Every 3 months,too.

For me, it's been every 3 months... whenever I go in for my follow ups.

4 weeks post op! Eating less??
DoIt4u replied to Melaniehealthymom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great to hear you're feeling well. I too had surgery and am now 2 weeks PO. I've managed ok I reckon on the liquid stage and ready to move to puree tomorrow. I am however feeling quite a bit of pain in my right side. Like stabbing pain sometimes when I stand up or move. I unfortunately took a really bad cold after surgery and was sneezing and coughing so I was tender anyway but just wondered if this pain is normal and will it ease 🤔 -
Calories at maintenance shock
Arabesque replied to Hope4NewMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, as @NickelChip said, it’s not expected you eat a pound of vegetables in your first year or so. Certainly as you progress you can eat more than you would be now @BabySpoons at 6 months. Actually you may be surprised how little a pound of vegetables actually is - it’s about 2 - 3 cups depending upon the vegetables. Dr Weiner does tend to promote a diet low in animal products & therefore high in plant based proteins like legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils, etc.) which can count towards your vegetables too. The UK promotes 5 serves a day which is equivalent to about a pound too. Though they do not count potatoes or other starchy vegetables defining them as more a carb. Easy to incorporate more vegetables in your diet. Add lentils &/or mushrooms to minced meat dishes (like bolognese, meatballs, savoury mince), add beans &/or lentils to soups, stews, etc. Use zucchini noodles, aubergine or zucchini as lasagne sheets, mash white beans instead of mashed potatoes, cauliflower pizza bases or rice. Try roasted fava beans or chickpeas, or edamame as a snack. Add vegetables to an omelette or frittata. Remember tomatoes, cucumbers & capsicum, though fruits, are counted as vegetables.
