Good news and Meh news...
Meh: so I think I experienced/am experiencing my first stall-ish since surgery and now I get how frustrating it can be! So annoying to wake up every morning to watch the scale report a gain or loss of the same 1.5 pounds for over 2 weeks. *sigh*. Some say put the scale away, but I log my weight every morning to get a daily moving average of my weight. So long as this moving average is not heading upwards (which it isn’t and hasn’t since post-op) then I am good with my curent “minimalist” weekly weight loss rate, however small I think it is 🙄.
However.
The Good news:
To allow for some self back patting, and to remind myself of the bigger picture, I set a bunch of interim goals/milestones... a few of which are 10lbs increment weight loss goals:
So this morning, after hovering within 1.5 pounds of an interim goal for over 2 weeks, I weighed in at 164.8, and officially lost 70 lbs! In 4 months. That is 30% of my starting body weight. Or the equivalent of my 10 year old neice. How crazy is that.
Next Goal: weigh in at 162lbs to be merely overweight (and not obese!)

Just got the confirmation---surgery on May 8 (that's two weeks away)! I wasn't expecting it to be so soon, but I'm glad I have less time to think and worry about it. So, I guess I am starting my 2 weeks of full liquids tomorrow!

I'm 7 weeks out today, and started getting a stomach ache yesterday morning. I thought maybe it was something I ate, so I didn't eat anything for a while and tried again. Today I went back to all liquids, and I still have a stomach ache and it's worse when I drink anything - hot or cold. It's not a right side pain - like what I assume gallbladder would be, and it's fairly constant. Ideas? I'm going to try calling my doctor's office after their lunch break.

Does anyone else hate taking their meds now I'm only 3 weeks post op but every time I take meds it often feels like I'm eating and feel sick afterwards. Its almost like I feel full just from taking my meds, and this sucks? Comments anyone? I have to take about 7 different things daily, and sometimes I don't take em all because of this ?

I have a question about pills and malabsorption after gastric bypass. I'm almost 4 weeks post op and had to have emergency back surgery last week (2 surgeries in 3 weeks) and I'm in a lot of pain. They got me taking pain pills for the back pain to recover from the surgery but the pills don't seem to work. Is there something I can do? I'm afraid it's from the malabsorption that the pain pills aren't working.

No burping or stuff coming out, just feel it in my chest! Does this happen! I was fine until last week, could it be due to band being tight! This was the tighest I ever felt it!!! I dd liquids n mushers for almost 2 weeks.

I was banded in 2008, and got pregnant in 2010. I had 2 de-fills during my pregnancy, but my band seemed to be normal. A few weeks after I had my baby my band started feeling really tight. My surgeon has emptied it completely, but it still feels tighter than I have ever had it. I had to drink a couple ounces of diet soda before every meals to stretch it a little in order to be able to get anything down without pain. If I don't I can't even get water down without a little discomfort. My surgeon took my gall bladder out 7 weeks post pregnancy and said that the band looks fine, so we know it has not malfunctioned in any way. Has any one ever heard of someone's band feeling tighter after pregnancy? I m looking for some hope that this gets better and it will go back to normal

Hi there! I am pretty new to this since I was recently banded, but I have "the rules" fresh in my head, so maybe I can help you. As far as your weight loss stall, have you had a fill at all? If so, how many CC's and how much food are you able to eat? What my doctor wants from me once I start to have fills is to be able to eat 4 ounces of food and be comfortable for 3-4 hours, are you able to do this? Also, do you work out? If you do, maybe it is time to change up your exercises. They say that you should change it up every 8 weeks, so you keep burning as many calories as possible. Hopefully this helps you in some way, let me know how it goes.

Ok wow. So my weight loss and everything has been Ok, could be worse. But my mood, my...i don't even think it's that. When you need a friend and you don't have any...where do you go? Seriously. Besides that, I'm just so empty. It doesn't matter if I'm depressed or ok anymore...I'm just empty no matter what I do. I love my b/f, my family, my friends. I love school, I look foward to being somewhat ok at my future job...but the emptiness never goes away... I really don't want to be on meds again...I feel ok sometimes...ish....even then...I'm so empty and up in limbo that my diagnosis is just "Not otherwise specified".... And I've been pretty much diagnosed (went to 4 doctors that all said i had this) with Trigeminal Neuralgia...and i just discovered that mine might be caused by stress/emotions...great. Seriously after being completely pain free for almost a week, i start crying and the pain kicks in again. I feel crazy.

Hi Dr. Watkins, First I would like to say how much we appreciate that you come here and are so informative and helpful. We are lucky to have you here! I read on another post where you were talking about a leak. I am afraid I have one. I got a fill and it was too much, so my doctor said he was going to take some out and leave 2.75 cc's in a 4cc band. I just got another one last week ( 2 months later,) and he was only able to pull out 2.0 before he did the fill. He said it does not necessarily mean I have a leak. I had great restriction the first few days after this last fill. Now, not so much. Is it because when you get a fill, there is some swelling? Is there any way to find out if I have a leak other than the next time I go for another fill and check and see what's left in there? That is how I got overfilled to begin with. He thought I had a leak so he put me up over 3.0 and I was miserable. That was when he moved me down to 2.75. He was able to pull out all of it out that time, when he left the 2.75 in there. I could really test it out and try to eat something that I can't normally eat with a good fill, but I don't want to do that and risk throwing up.

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Need Help Getting back on Track
MommaBurks posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello there, I was banded 2 years today I and I feel like the biggest failure! I lost 50+ pounds in 4 months and then found out that my birth control did not work for me and that I was pregnant with my 3rd child. Prior to finding out I had gotten a fill and during the same appt they gave me 2 unfills and it was still tight within a week or so of that so when I found out I was pregnant I had the majority of what was left unfilled. Needless to say I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy. As long as I stayed under what I started at before surgury I considered that a plus. Well here I am almost a year and 2 fills later (which is a whole other issue) and nothing has changed. My eating habits are horrible and I feel like I have no support what so ever. My husband gives me a hard time yet all he wants to do is eat out and not exactly at the best choices. I am so frustrated I need help, I am going to have to do this on my own though, I feel like I have this tool that is supposed to help me and I have no means (insurance or money) to maintain it at the moment. I would like to lose the same 50 pounds by the end of December but don't even know where to start. I am about 245 give or take. I need to do this for myself but i just don't know how. After surgery I had insurance for my fills and I had a membership at the Y and was using it regularly. Now I have none of that. If anyone is willing to help me get back on track any support and advice would be great. Thanks, Frustrated Momma, MommaBurks:confused: -
I am leaving for Mexico next week to spend Christmas. And not Cancun Mexico... My question is: What are some Snacks I can bring on my trip? I don't want to be stuck there with nothing "healty" to eat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Have a blessed day! Lesley

Thanks for asking! I would love to hear from you as well. I am loving this band. I love my doctor but I wish he wanted to go a little faster. I started with about 3 ccs and he added .5 ccs with my fill on 11/4/08 and told me that with the weight I had already lost he didn't want to do another fill until January. I am feeling very little restriction and losing very little weight; maybe I am just discouraged because this week is PMS and I always have lots of water weight gain. On a brighter note, I have lost about 30 pounds and when I exercise, I am still losing. I am so glad I did this! I am never going back only down! I have not really had any problems. I have had a couple of experiences with "nothing" going down but when it happens, I can tell you exactly what I did wrong. My hair and nails are not in good shape but I think it is just because I need to work harder at getting protiens and eat less carbs. I am eating prunes or taking fiber every day. I started a challenge for New Year's. I really want to weigh 225 by New Year's. If you look under "August 08 Bandsters", you can see that. Lots of people of joined me in this challenge with their own goals of course. I have got to be serious about what I eat from now until December if I am going to do this but I really would like to. Hello Everyone, My name is Odette, I am new to this fourm and I am looking to meet any banders from BC. As I am sheduled for my first appointment in 2 weeks, in victoria I would like to chat with anyone who has had surgery with Dr. Amson. I am also interested in chatting with anyone who has done their surgery in Mexico. I know I want my surgery, but I have been advised that the prices vary.

You can eat whatever you feel like eating actually. The point of the clear diet is to jumpstart your weightloss. Your stomach will have swelling from the trauma to the tissue from surgery. The swelling will be the tightness you feel when you consume food or liquids. Heavier things could cause you to need to throw up, it isn't a regular nausea it is more like choking and needing to get it out, and I am sure you have been told that that is bad for your band. If you are very hungry try some Jello, fudgesicles, or a cup of warm tea. These will help aleviate the hunger, as will the Protein drinks. You can get some from quixstar online with 35 grams of protein and just 5 carbs. The vanilla is terrific. I am in hormone hell and having hunger issues way more than I can control, I was done on May 7, 2008. You want to lose 2 a week at most or you get too flabby too quick. See some on here dropping way too fast and know that my sister looks awful after doing that with bypass surgery. I fought getting this done for a long time, but know it is my tool I need. Plugging away at increasing exercise and hope in the next 2 weeks to control the hormone hunger then get my 2nd fill. My best help has been reading on here where I can get some shared info and incentive. Good Luck and work into soft slowly so you don't get disappointed in your weight change.

Here on this site you're unlikely to find any bandsters who've had it longer than 5 or 6 years. And I think there were only two or three people in that boat. Try going to OH or Yahoo Groups and looking for Australian or European bandster groups. You'll have much better luck there with regard to long-term bandsters.

I have awful heartburn as well. I have had it before and after the surgery. In the last 2 weeks I've started taking Prilosec once a day (just 1 pill) and also one of these Probiotics (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P0NYFI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and there is a world of difference. These probiotics are inexpensive and they WORK. I've been heartburn free for 2 weeks now.

Stuck in a stall
alwaysvegas replied to newstart11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your great success! Check out the following article: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/05/22/weight-loss-plateau/ Also, there are quite a few topics on this forum covering stalls. Understanding that stalls are normal and the weight loss slows as you get closer to your goal weight, check your daily calories, exercise, and carbs. You might be eating more than you thought or perhaps exercising less than before. The magic timeline that I've read several time is that a typical stall lasts for UP to six weeks. If you haven't started losing again after six weeks, then look more closely at your food quality intake and exercise. I just got out of my first stall since surgery almost two months ago. The stall was just under a month. I had started eating a bit more (still under 1000 cals a day), but exercise was about the same. I just started losing again this week.
