    My Plastic Surgery Thread

This month, I have begun serious research, assessing costs, time lines and interviewing plastic surgeons. I am so grateful for this thread. No one can truly understand this journey or its unique stages. I am looking into a breast lift and tummy tuck to address the abdominal loose skin. I can live with the bat wing arms. I have met with two surgeons thus far. One wants to do a belt, the other much less invasive. Tomorrow, I visit a female surgeon. I really liked the surgeon I met today, but he is booked thru August 2020 unless a cancellation - which is doubtful given his excellent reputation. I had hoped to have surgery this winter to allow for plenty healing time before our 25th anniversary gala May 17, 2020. While I know everyone heals differently - do you think procedures done in January or February give enough time? I am still loosing currently, and am aware of the 3-6-9 or 12 year wait thru maintenance for plastics. Do you feel that is a definite hard and fast rule? Am I rushing this too much? How did you know your personal target weight? I think I might be an inches girl more than weight? I have adopted healthy eating and 100 oz. water per day down. I adhere strictly to the wisdom + suggestions from The Obesity Code, Big Ass Salads and A Pound of Cure. I found each author and book refreshing, vindicating and honest... After years of struggle, frustration and mixed messages managing a serious weight problem. Your thoughts and experience would be so much appreciated. Thank you.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

@Sheribear68 Hopefully we didn’t jack the thread from @sillykitty though I think no matter our starting weight we all will face this sometime in the journey. I’m still sorting through a lot of issues and the prospect or hope of removing saggy skin is one of them but not the biggest issue. I hide it with compression Capri, pants or shorts which had a main purpose of being recommend for orthostatic intolerance aka pots or what other name it goes by, but you can’t wear that in a swimming pool. Or make you feel better about excess weight still in thighs and belly. Along with sagging skin. They put my height too high at 5’ 2” at best I’m 5’ 0” at most half inch more ... my mom is only slightly shorter. She weighs 100 lbs. she is able to be more active. I posted middle of the night last time and then jerked awake thinking but this site isn’t private and neither are our conversations really but nothing is private and we all are dealing with similar issues. Not all the same but sometimes similar. i actually wanted to start a thread on unexpected or overwhelming wins but losses at the same time. And can’t decide if I should. it wasn’t this topic but ... has anyone discussed plastic surgery with their bariatric surgeon? I think unless it’s a huge amount of skin they don’t see it has an issue? But for us it is. I know someone who could benefit from RNY but he isn’t in the head space to do it. But he has very high BMI, blood pressure, diabetes, needs knee replacement, etc, but he comments every time he sees me about my surgery and how he thinks I should feel. my journey isn’t a normal one to compare to. all the best to sillykitty on your journey too. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out.

LOL, thanks, but: My ARMS!!! My SIDE-BOOB!!! (and that bikini pic had the wrinkled fabric look above my belly button hidden with a tube top ) Once I get closer to my surgery date, I'll post some Before Pics for posterity. Though I will concede that I came out the other side of this weight loss thing much better than I anticipated I would, skin-wise (thank you, universe). P.S. though don't get me started on the state of my butt...

OK, I'm just gonna have to call bullsh*t right here. LOL. What's your PS gonna do? Stand over the OR table and wave a magic wand over you? Cuz where is your extra skin hon? You shrinky dinked and from what I saw of your vacay in Brazil or wherever you were? Didn't you show a bikini pic and you have tight skin everywheres? Just sayin.

    The Maintenance Thread

Yep, my PS surgeon said that I will lose basically nothing in terms of poundage, as I am all skin removal with no significant lipo, if any at all (any lipo, he said he would employ only if he feels the need to contour when he gets in there)

    The Maintenance Thread

As an aside, if you don't have much fat left, don't count on losing much after plastic surgery. Skin doesn't weigh very much. A lot of people lose less than five pounds unless they had a lot of fat (and therefore a lot of lipo). I only lost 2 or 3 lbs (I had very little fat left, too)

    The Maintenance Thread

I put in a call to my nut. to check in and ask about macro percentages now. in the meantime I came across this study: http://bariatrictimes.com/carbohydrate-fat-and-protein-what-do-we-know-about-the-macronutrient-composition-of-the-diet-following-bariatric-surgery/ I am now at 1500-1600 calories. I seem to bounce around between 126-127 pounds but still have trending down so my guess is at this rate I will be 125-126 in the next few months unless I can increase my calories a bit. I am logging everything with an updated goal of 1600 calories. I had a goal of 1500 calories for the past month but would really like to stay closer to 128 pounds and not drop to 125. I am anticipating plastics in the spring and the 3 surgeons I saw said I don't have a lot of fat left and what I thought was still fat ie love handles was just loose skin. I am anticipating I would lose another few pounds after plastics too. So at 1600 calories my marco goals are: 40% carbs (159g), 30% protein (120 grams but usually hit closer to 110), and 30% fat (53g) but seem to go over that due to whole milk and high fat nuts just to get calories in. I am going to ask the nut. if that protein is too high. I eat a lot of high calorie nuts to get calories and protein in vs lean protein. Any thoughts? Does that seem like a lot of protein? The carbs seem so crazy high since 3 months ago I was at less than 40 grams of carbs a day. I am actually eating a little bit of triscuit crackers or granola type of cereals to get fiber and carbs in.

I agree it wan't that clear - What i was trying to say is use the shakes to fill in - Nothing beats healthy eating, For me the shakes are easy to slamm down and it becomes a convenient issue - I did not get any real doctor diet, after two months it seems - Eat less and eat healthy - Had to dang hire a nutrioshinist to get my food intake in line, Funny I loose more on shakes and faster then food, but I also am the creator of F#$ck Food slogan! Also Fluffy no way going head to head with you - You are a Yoda compared to most of us around here! No is there a surgery that gets rid of work, Tired of this working stuff

This is a great thread and a topic I've been thinking about personally, because I'm not sure what my answer is. I think my doctor's goal for me is somewhere between 120 to 135, which would put me in the normal BMI range. I'm currently about 165, so only 30 pounds to go to hit the high end of that goal. The highest ever recorded weight for me was 303. I started the program at 284 and had surgery around 243. When I was 15 I weighed 150 after unhealthy dieting. I think mentally, I'd like to reach 125 to prove to myself I can do it and to give myself a 10 lb leeway to the top of that range. But I think honestly, if I could maintain at 150 I'd probably be happy. We suspect I probably have about 10 to 12 pounds of excess skin. I don't yet know if I'll have surgery to remove it. If money and pain were not part of the equation I would 100% fix all my terribly saggy skin. And I'm too early to decide about skin anyway. I've hit a plateau, which is frustrating. My NUT wants me to consider doing the bariatric shakes for two weeks to try to break through the plateau. I told her I wanted to give it a month before considering it. It's been 3 weeks and no changes, so I think I'll try it when I see her next week. My husband is going to enter the medically supervised program with my NUT office, so I think it will be easier on both of us if we're doing it together.

Ok I can usually find my size these days med is common enough and I'll even take a large or small depending on cut BUT it seems like Targét has way more plus sized clothes/bigger fitting clothes than before. Normally I would say finally but where the world was this vanity sizing 4 yrs ago when I was buying very costly clothing elswhere? Hmm? Whatever. A dress I really wanted but couldn't get because the sizes were off (I choose to believe its not my body 😂) Its too loose & drappy for its size. What's going on in fashion/pattern design these days??? I'm about to have an entire bespoke wardobe if this continues. This is why I can't shop online...

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Mr. F has lost about 70lbs in a combo between lchf (low carb healthy fat) and IF/OMAD. He does TRE by virtue of only eating OMAD M-F. His T2 has improved a lot. But lately we've had lots of business/social events and he's regained about 10lbs so it's time to get back on the WLWagon. I try to stay between 56-70 g of protein loosely. It will fluctuate daily. I like to average around 60-65g cuz I feel like that's the sweet spot for me. My albumin and pre-albumin levels look really good at that range. When I'm higher 75-90g, I notice that my blood sugars are higher, I'm snackier, I feel like my insulin gets elevated again and the pain starts (also lymphedema gets worse). It's taken a while to figure this out. But it's very real. Also, I start getting more mucus/asthma symptoms. So weird. It is normal. It's also high end normal. At my due weight in kg (120/2.2lbs-kg) X 0.8 to 1.2g/kg, I only really need about 44g of protein - 65g of protein per day. (Remember, I'm not super active...)

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

I had a hysterectomy in 2010 that affected my body shape too. I don’t have my records anymore when the reduction was. I asked to be as small as possible I thought I was a c cup. I was early 20s at the time? I had it done at a clinic in NYC. To bad I don’t remember my measurements. oddly enough I’m Bony around my bra band and can wear between 28 G or 30 F. Yet stubborn weight elsewhere. I am trying to figure out how I’d ever have skin removal and how much weight that would come off. BariatricPal has their MX Hospital in Mexico and a heath credit to help pay. But I’ve so little money. People might think I’m thinner now I don’t quite feel it. I wanted to post about it on a different subject. I’m in a weird head space right now. And it’s hard to talk about.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Yes!!!! Yes to all of this! I have a long torso, short stubby and chunky legs. Had HUMONGOUS breast (i also would spill out of DDD) and got my reduction in 2010 after a bout with breast cancer bc finally my insurance would pay for it. Went from G cup to B cup and haven’t regretted one instant of it. I’m definitely an A cup now and I’m actually pretty thrilled with the fact. For me, the ONLY way I’m getting these chunky legs taken care of is lipo the cellulite that covers my upper legs. Then of course get rid of all the loose skin and excess flab hanging on my waist/lower abs. Sadly there’s no amount of exercise or toning that can remove saggy, flappy skin. Oh and sorry sillykitty, I’m kinda jacking your plastics thread, but since I’m nowhere close to a consult I didn’t want to start one of my own and I wanted to vent about frustrations with my bod even after losing >100 pounds.

    🍂 Nov 2019 Challenge🍂

Day 17. Doing well in staying within my caloric expectations but some food choices have been questionable only because I am on vacation. Mid month check in: I'm so fearful of even acknowledging my clothing size because I think it's a mirage and will disappear as soon as acknowledged. It is pretty scarily amazing that since 3 months out of surgery (yesterday was the official date) I'm wearing: Size 10 Express Jeans non stretch!!!![emoji15][emoji15][emoji15][emoji15][emoji15][emoji15] I would not have been shocked if it was Old Navy size 10s but Express is ridiculous for their size chart! I went in the store (not been inside since late 20's....a little over 10yrs ago) because I thought that ship has sailed. I tried on the 12s and it was loose, then the 10 fit perfectly without being tight at all. I also got a medium blouse that I rocked at my desert safari excursion yesterday and family members were exclaiming over the pictures!!!!![emoji114][emoji114][emoji114][emoji114][emoji114] I'm only acknowledging it out loud on this thread because this journey has been amazing and so rewarding that after reading other people's experiences and doubting it can be me, and now that it's me, I'm SHOOK!!!!!!! Please for anyone doubting, just know I was there less than 14 weeks ago!! Like SERIOUSLY doubting but trusting what the people who have gone before me said, YOUR TIME WILL COME! Be diligent and do YOU! What am I most grateful for about my job? The fact that I can't do something else! The fact that it does not feel like a job when I do not think about the bureaucracy. The fact that it puts food on the table and clothes on my back. The fact that it's rewarding even when it's thankless. This months challenge has been very apt because I am so so so immensely GRATEFUL about everything [emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. year out how many calories a day are you eating and what is the one thing you learned worked for you to break stalls and loose quickly?
  16. I had RNY surgery a year ago but I'm still lacking in making solid connections with others. It's hard to relate when I feel like I always have a secret to hide (loose skin, surgery, etc.) It would be nice to make some new friends and maybe even more! I'd prefer to talk through messages and not through the public forums, so feel free to message! [emoji4] Hopefully I'm not speaking to the wind.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

I saw your answer this morning and You said what I feel but couldn’t verbalize very well. i was mocked and bullied for having a big butt and big boobs as a kid, early teens my chest grew practically overnight to a size I wouldn’t know now since back then the biggest you saw in cup size was DDD and that didn’t come close to fitting. And I couldn’t afford to buy them. I had a very large frame (large wrist circumference) Eventually I had breast reduction out of medical necessity. At the time I was actually 5’ 4” I also weighed 180 lbs and hated every inch of it because I didn’t understand why. Due to chronic illness and disability and metabolic disorders and a long list of medical conditions I lost bone density. i don’t miss a big but or big boobs. My mom has always been very slim, at my heaviest she was half my weight at the same height eating the same foods. I just wanted to feel thin for once in my life. I wouldn’t even mind a more “boyish” shape. I think what bothers me most is the sagging skin in the chest, my stomach and thighs and that they aren’t getting thinner like the rest. Which is basically what you said (sorry for repeating myself) probably easier to say I agree. It would be nice to just have a lean slim body. Long isn’t in the cards for me I’m very short. Though my torso is a little longer so my butt is very low. having struggled with my body shape for so long I just want a slim balanced unsaggy body I didn’t have as a teen.

As far as health is concerned, I feel fine at the weight I am now (170 lbs). As far as vanity is concerned, I'd like to lose a bit more, but not much. I think it all depends on your skeletal frame. I have a wide pelvic girdle, which is already beginning to show through the skin - a look which I don't like (though others may!). Also, my rib cage finishes just 1 or 2cm above my hips, so I'm never going to have a small waist - there isn't enough space between my ribs and hips for my waist to go in. I'd like to achieve the magical BMI of 25, but as soon as my face starts to look drawn or saggy, I'm stopping!

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

I already want my thighs done. My weight has gone down and I’m 10lbs from my second goal. But think For my height I’d like to reach around 110 lbs so that final goal would be at least 23 lbs from where I am now. Hard to believe I might have reached 75lb loss now. My starting weight was 208 with 40 BMI. Im math illiterate ... numbers escape me. As does tracking time. im wishing for a thigh lift already ... that’s the worst. For some reason I am bony in some places but still stubborn thigh and belly weight. I don’t know how much weight skin removal takes off. I don’t even know that I will ever be able to afford it even in Mexico. But I wish for it. My belly is second on that list. my butt hasn’t existed since I had a hysterectomy in 2010. It’s just flat I have no natural curve.

Yea right your not here with the rest of us because you anorexic or bolemick - I am sure non of us have every lost 10 pounds to never gain it back. My view Not a chance in hell i would loose over 100 pounds in 4 months if i could still slamm vodka eat at happy hour and live my old lifestyle. Also its nobody's business what you decide you are doing this for yourself and only yourself,

    Before and After Pics

Well I finally have hips again. They've always been big (got wider after having a kid) but you can finally tell. When I run my hands down my side and over my hip I can feel my hip bone with only a light press. I can't remember the last time this was possible. I'm also in onderland for the first time in.....13yrs? Never thought this day would come. I was always self conscious when shirts were tight enough to show my stomach. So I always bought a size larger. I've been an XL for 4yrs now. And a size 16-18 pant. I'm now self conscious for a different reason. My shirts are too baggy and they make me feel way bigger than I really am. My XL leggings are too loose. My size 14 pants are now getting too big. I'm going to try and hold off on buying new clothes for another few mths but I'm finally excited to go clothes shopping. Height: 5'7" HW: 325lbs CW: 197lbs

Good question. I actually weighed and measured the ingredients (not really packed). So now I know what to measure on a scale each time. For instance, I know ever salad that includes all of these ingredients will look like this: 10g purple onion 18g red bell pepper 14g baby carrot 30g cucumber 10g shredded cabbage 14g baby spinach (more for romaine or iceberg cuz it weighs more per volume) 8-10g arugula 2 to 2.5oz dense protein optional: 4-6g reduced fat cheese crumbles 4-8g pumpkin seeds or some kind of nut 14g avocado Zero cal dressing of some nature. That will make about 1 1/2 cups of loosely packed salad. It might even be closer to 2 cups.

I so want Rothy's to work for me. I tried them when I was heavy and they rubbed the back of my heel. I lost 1/2 shoe size, so I tried them again last month, and same heel rubbing I just got some All Birds, they are super comfortable, no rubbing or pinching. But the 7.5 is a bit too short, my toe just about hits the top of the shoe. But the 8 are loose, and feel like I'm going to walk out of them. I'm not sure what to do! I desperately need comfortable and professional flats
  25. Just got my PICO ( a mini-drain) dicontinued after 2 months of a minor surgery that my stupid General Surgeon ( although I do hate so bad- mouthing another female) boogered up- left me with a distended upper arm with a non- healing surgical wound distended with blood clots- my theory? She failed to ligate a teeny blood vessel and it kept drip- drip- dripping under the skin. 1.5 kudney- basins full of clots and tunnelling both directions for 5 cm under the skin surface and raised up like a "breast implant" Sorry for the TMI but that WAS what it most resembled. Surgery was September 24th and after weekly PICO changes I am FREE on November 13th- whew-ee. Frightening that Ms Inept MD. also does Bariatric SURGERY but Praise GOD above , Not Mine! So drains do perform a purpose, if needed They Are Good but Many Many people escape THEM- if you do emerge from the OR with one they do speed up healing well. Had a Jackson- Pratt with my last open Abdominal- not my Bariatric- except for a little wider scar THERE it was GOOD FOR ME and speeded healing up! So Good Luck, a Smooth SURGERY and may yOu Always heal by" First Intention" healing from the Inside Out like my Last little SURGERY- The Pits- and IT STILL us a little sore there after nearly 2 months. And no sympathy from anybody because it was an ELECTIVE ONE.
