❤My Revision Story❤
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡ Ok here's the details on why I needed a revision: 1. Stricture at Incisera/spiraled sleeve- confirmed through testing and in surgery (no way to fix both issues without revision surgery) 2. GERD- I NEVER had it prior to surgery. It was a side effect. It was caused (surgeon believes) by the stricture I had at the incisera. This was confirmed through endo and surgery. 3. Hiatal Hernia- no explanation needed. 4. Gastritis- had this prior to first surgery and never resolved itself but hopefully now it will 5. Adhesions- plenty and plenty and plenty that NEEDED to be removed. Here's why youve never heard about any of these things until now: I still lost weight with the issues i had... They did not stop me from making better choices and working hard with the hand i was given. Plus complaining here would just scare people out of something that could benedit them immensely. I did all of my wailing to my surgeons and they took my concerns seriously. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Hope this helps someone. These complications especially clustered like this are rare. Surgery was still completely worthwhile. This may never ever happen to you. You do not have to fail at WL because of complications. You do not have to regain because of complications. You DO have to check in with your team and make them aware so they can help you. -

Did you have to do the same pre op diet for your revision? I know that it varies widely from dr to dr but I am curious -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
GingerSlim replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got sleeved 5 years ago and had terrible reflux/GERD every single day since. My esophagus is a mess! Doctor said RNY bypass is the way to go & I’m having revision on Monday. Doctor said that every single patient he did revision to RNY for bypass for no longer suffered from reflux. I’ll let you know how it goes, but don’t jump the gun and get the sleeve. -

Thank you so much for posting. I am the first person that I have known to get a revision done. How much weight did you shed after the revision? This is amazing! -

Asking older sleevers, did I make a mistake?
Lorijp replied to gabybab's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be discouraged. And by no means consider a revision, you have to feel better than you did. You were, I'm sure told that you would hit a plateau, as we all do. To kick start it again, take a couple days and do protien drinks or have protien drinks during the day and have a light meal, push through. The first 5 months the weight goes so fast, you want that to keep up, but it can't and doesn't. Keep pushing through. Seek support groups to help with this, if needed. I think the key is to kickstart it again and I was told that going back to liquids for a couple days would help do that. I too feel like my appetite is pretty good, but then when I'm actually eating, I can't finish all that much, so just because you want to eat it all, your probably not - or don't let yourself, find something else to do. Keep up the good work, no matter how little that may seem to be some weeks - it will all be worth it in the end!! -

Wow! I haven’t been here much but I had no idea your revision was so soon. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It is looking likely that I too will need to revise due to gerd:( I am so not happy about it because I know that revisions surgery carries greater risk for one thing. For another I just don’t want a bypass and that is why I went with the sleeve to start. I am more afraid to revise than I was to have my initial sleeve surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery and I will be paying closer attention to this thread. -
Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
So, niether one of us really knows why those people posted in that way. Which is what I am getting at. Yes, I DID notice the "as if that would be" in your post. Which is a perfect example of an asumption on your part, since these people did not tell you this was their own reasoning. You were assuming THAT is why those individuals posted it in the thread in the first place. You then go even further to surmise that not only is that the reason for including the reflux detail, but that the person(s) must be doing it because the WLS community is not supportive enough of weight regain revisions. There may well be someone feeling the things you have assumed here- it is a big community with all kinds of people, after all. 💙 I just don't think filling in the blanks on someone else's story, to the point that you are not sure if you should feel "sad, pissed" etc. is a very evidence-based way to know one way or another.... and it is somewhat unfair to the original posters, IMO. -
Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
summerset replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
I secretly hoped that some of these users would answer in this thread, explaining why they chose to express it like this. You know, so far I've not seen something like "I'm getting a revision because of weight gain and NOT because of reflux". You know what the problem with assumptions is? However, you did notice that I used the expression "as if that would be" and not "because this is seen as"? -
Thank you for your reply and good luck with your surgery. I am also suffering terrible acid reflux making it so that I dont want to eat. My consultant has also said to have a revision to bypass which he says he will do in september. Good luck with you continued journey hopefully reflux free.

Round 3: Revision planned for July 31 2019
ValerieInMexico replied to ValerieInMexico's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I met with my GP, here in Canada, yesterday. I told her what I had planned. I am having the surgery in Mexico. My original gastric band was self pay in Sweden. My gastric bypass was covered by Insurance when I lived and worked in Washington State. Now, I am back, retired in Canada. I would not qualify here, because I really am healthy at this time. Fortunately for me, my Dr. is from Colorado and had many patients in the US who had bariatric surgery. She is supportive, but is performing more tests today. This year, I have had endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, and bone scans. No problems found. My mineral levels are good now, after a lot of work so I feel good to go. She is wondering why I have a fatty liver and is just giving me a diabetes test to see if I am diabetic or insulin resistant. She gave me copies of all my tests for the surgeon in Mexico. My surgeon said he has done 200 revisions, including redo of the RNY. I am nervous, of course. I do not have kids, pets or plants so if I have problems..... no one dependent on me so that helps me handle the risk. Plus, I have a winter home near where the procedure is taking place, so I can hang around for a month in case there are any problems. Honestly, the struggle with weight has been life long, like so many of us. I work so hard, in the gym, walking, and I am so careful what I eat. I do not even have sugar in my house and have not for years. I do not eat any junk food, soda, frappes. Once or twice a year I binge on a pint of ice cream. I drink wine. I track calories. It takes years and years of dedication to lose 30 pounds and then: BAM One bad winter and all 30 are back. I just can not do this yo-yo anymore. So I will take the risk. My last four months have been about portion control and counseling to find ways to stop the evening eating (where all my extra calories come from). So.... that is also a big reason why I am taking the risk. I need help. Yes, I can lose it again with dedication, but will I keep it off? I need help......and now...…. I am mature and disciplined enough to do this correctly. Thanks for all the interest and I will keep you up to date. Pre Surgical diet begins in 4 days. I will post from the hospital and will appreciate the support. -
July 2019 - Surgery Schedule

Day one post op!! Revision RNY Surgery went great yesterday. I am in zero pain. I’ve only taken IV Tylenol. Team is a little freaked with my low BP and low HR but typically this is my baseline. Discharge today after upper GI and advancement of food. -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.

I would get a second opinion. You are better off delaying this so you can make the right decision. You don’t want to have to go through another revision later on -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
Alex_1990! replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, I did read that about avoiding the sleeve with reflux and I did ask my surgeon about it. Once they removed the fluid from my Lap Band I have had zero reflux or heartburn since. He said the band was so tight it was pushing up whatever I consumed into my esophagus which caused the reflux. He said he thinks the sleeve is my best option for revision. I really hope it is the right decision! I honestly just want the band out at this point as I have been struggling with it for a long time now. -
Asking older sleevers, did I make a mistake?

Is it too early to be concerned about not having enough weight loss? My restriction has lessened and I'm losing at a snail's pace. I'm so concerned. I lost about 5 pounds in June. Should I have had gastric bypass? How early is it to consider a revision? Help!! -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
Repeatingthoughts replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Agreed! I have GERD and was told stay away from the sleeve. Look into this site lots of people get their sleeve revised to bypass due to acid reflux. I left my first surgeon’s office because of this. He only does sleeves and I quickly left lol -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
elcee replied to Alex_1990!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
You have bad reflux you need to avoid the sleeve, it can make it worse. It seems strange that your surgeon would revise you to a sleeve with your reflux history. Generally the recommended route would be to have a Roux en Y Gastric Bypass. -
Revision from Lap-band to gastric sleeve.
Alex_1990! posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi! I am a 28 year old female and I have had the Lap-band for going on 8 years now. My starting weight was 240, and I got down to 155. I am 5’2 and my goal weight is 125-130. For the past year or so I have had many problems that have landed me in the hospital...mostly my esophagus being torn up from the acid reflux. We figured out my band had slipped. So my surgeon is performing revision surgery to the sleeve. Has anyone else experienced this? I am currently at 165 and I’m just curious about if and how fast I would lose weight since I am smaller than the first go around and how the sleeve differs from the band after all these years! Thanks guys! -
What about a revision? To say gastric bypass?

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty anyone?
Hop_Scotch replied to Dr-Patient's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes in October 2018. Restriction is holding out well so far (though not as restrictive as it was) and I rarely feel hungry. Like all bariatric procedures its a tool and it works well if we work it well. Compliance of post op diet guidelines particularly volume of food is important to ensure the sutures/anchor points/stomach melding/scarring heals properly to ensure the accordion effect is durable and as long term as possible. I am a member of a some esg facebook groups and some people haven't had success in different ways. Some feel they haven't lost as much weight or lose weight as fast as VSG or RNY - which is to be expected as the ESG doesn't reduce the volume of the stomach as much as the VSG and there certainly isn't any bypass. Others possibly through overeating and/or not following the post op diet guidelines in the first couple of months have lost restriction. Then there are the ones whose doctors possibly through inexperience didn't do a good job of the ESG - insufficient sutures, loose stitches etc. Finally, there are those that despite how well the ESG was done, how well they followed/continue to follow all the guidelines just don't feel the restriction and haven't had much success. Some people have already had revisions to VSG or RNY and some others are also using saxenda or other appetite reducing drugs prescribed by their doctor. Despite all the above there are plenty of success stories. I chose ESG because I liked the non surgical aspect of it, reduced complications and quicker recovery time. I knew that weight loss would be lower and slower than the surgical options but I was happy with the trade off. I continue to struggle with sugar/sweet cravings/head stuff. I am still working on replacing those mindless eating habits by replacing them with better/healthier habits. I would like to lose another 5 or so kilos by October, if I don't its not the end of the world, I am much healthier and fitter than I have been in a long time even if my BMI is not in the healthy weight range. Are you considering topping up your sleeve with an ESG to help with further restriction? I don't recall that any of the members of the ESG groups I belong to have had an ESG following a surgical weight loss procedure but a few have asked about it. Sorry for the waffling
