  1. I have a tiny one on my hip and it looks the same as before. But like the poster above, this skin on this area of my body was largely unaffected by the weight loss (i.e., didn't end up with loose/excess skin there). If it was on my tricep or butt cheek though, that would probably be another story...

    The Maintenance Thread

I am proud of myself! I am eating healthy carbs! Okay, so I am not venturing into potato and pasta zone, BUT I was super low on carbs and afraid of them because they were my vice.... but every day for the last 2 weeks I've had at least one slice of multigrain bread, usually with cream cheese and lately I've been making toad in a hole (egg in a basket). I even tried peanut butter on the slice (I was scared of peanut butter because of "calories"). I am happy I overcame this and I'm getting in some healthy grain. It took a lot of willpower to try it. Toad in a hole is life. mmmm. I've lost some weight (I am 124) but I also just had that skin removal so I'm sure that has to do with it, too. De-swelling slowly overtime. lol. Bundle of nerves

    1) there are a lot more people who never make it to goal than there are people who lose too much weight. Besides, you have control over that. If you're feeling you're getting too low, you can increase your calories and stop the weight loss 2) yes - a lot of us deal with excessive skin, but it's easy for most of us to hide. You're likely the only one who'll know it's there. And if it drives you nuts, there's always plastic surgery 3) you will not lose all your hair. No one loses all their hair. There are a few who experience hair coming out in clumps, and there are a few who lose no hair at all. Most of us notice some "shedding" for a few months, but we're the only ones who notice it. And it grows back. 4) I heard no comments of alarm, even after losing over 200 lbs. People either didn't say anything at all (which I thought was very odd, as surely they noticed - maybe they just don't think it's appropriate to discuss weight??), or they went on & on about how great I looked 5) complications are uncommon and for those of us who have them, most are minor 6) nausea is not uncommon the first few days or weeks, but for life? No. That would be very rare. Plus they can give you Zofran to control it the first few days/weeks if it's bothersome I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am to have had this surgery. I LOVE being normal weight and NEVER want to be obese again!! It is worth EVERYTHING. I do remember worrying incessantly when I was a pre-op and early post-op about losing hair and excess skin. I lost very little hair - and my excess skin was easy to hide. No one knew it was there. In retrospect, I cannot believe I wasted even ONE brain cell worrying about these things. They are so insignificant in light of all the positive changes I went through. I would have this surgery again in a heartbeat - and if I had to go back every year to have it again, I would! Best decision I ever made. My only regret is that I didn't have it YEARS ago!

    Bundle of nerves

I'm glad to see this thread, because I need to express my concerns & thoughts. I'm scared of so many things as surgery is getting closer. I'm afraid of not looking like myself because I've lost too much weight, excessive loose skin, losing all of my hair, family and friends being alarmed when they see me after not seeing me. Complications from surgery and many concerns, that I know are mind tricks. My medical team and I have discussed these issues, I'm just scared. I've been obese for so long, I'm scared of what healthy looks like for me now. I know I'm being dramatic, fear of the unknown. You aren't going to be nauseous for the rest of your life. Just take it easy, follow your plan and listen to your body and what it likes after surgery. Hydrate, rest, protein and believe in yourself.
  5. Surgery was August 11th. I went from 246-168 so far. I am finding lumps on my leg. They seem to be attached and immovable, we are thinking they are fat cysts but I thought fat cysts would be movable? Also I’m covered in bruises ugh! My dr had to reschedule my appt and I’m overthinking. Anyone else?

no one cared when i was fat

Happened to me too and still happens but I learnt to not give a f**k and live my life.. scale is just a number, people always judge and comment stuff like it's their business to say something (but it's not!) "You're Too thin, you're too fat.. oh your weight is good but u got a belly.. try to loss that." They say these everyday.. they make unnecessary comments.. I understood this just a minute before my surgery.. bc I happened to understand how my life matters to "me". I only live once.. so why bother.. Baby go to the mirror and make peace with yourself again, dysmorphia is normal after gaining & losing weight and god has made surgeons if you're not happy with extra skin or anything.. No worries just try to start eating healthy again and get to love yourself again. [emoji173][emoji847] Sent from my SM-G935F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Lady bits and weightloss

Ok graphic n gross but I guess this is the post to ask about LOL! Mine doesn't stick out or bulge but it looks weird, I noticed when I was walking it felt like there was a gap down between my legs, looking in the mirror the 2 sides of my womanhood don't meet together anymore, there is a gap between the 2 sides n it looks weird. Would the lower body lift help this? I have been researching and really don't know how to pay for all the plastics it's crazy expensive. anyone tried any other skin tightening alternatives that helped?

    skin removal

Has anyone tried any non invasive skin tightening? What was it? Did it help? Was it cheaper than surgery?
  9. Has anyone tried laser tightening or any type of non invasive tightening? Did it work? Is it cheaper than actual surgery?

    The Maintenance Thread

Gosh one of the things this journey has taught me with regards to food and indulgences is that I DO have the power to choose and to change the game up. I do remember having those guilty feelings of failure and depression following a feast weekend. I would literally shove food down my gob every second I could! And food is using the term loosely. By food, I mean crap! LOL.Delicious. Carby. Fatty. Crunchy. Gooey. Pasta-y. Ricey. Crap. LOL. Hello, Tortillas y Tamales. Ola Enchiladas Chicas. LOL. Then the next week following it, I wouldn't even be able to make myself get on the scale, much less get back into an exercise and eating routine. Now following 2 days of eating heavy meals (not snacking on crap, just taking in double or triple my normal calories + limited alcohol), and up to 135 (pre-poopy LOL) and yesterday I sprang right back into the program. Got on the scale. Posted publicly to you guys about my plate and my weight and walked an hour both yesterday and today. This morning I'm down to 133lbs (post-poopy LOL) and I feel like it was only a temporary blip--not a backslide into the old ways. I will admit, I had anxiety and crankiness being at the top of my weight window. Kinda like the female cat in Pepe Le Peuw cartoons, trying to pry/crawl her way out of his smelly embrace. That was me trying to escape the reality of the scale yesterday morning--even knowing most of that was water weight. LOL. But this journey and my tool reassure me that regain will only happen with MY HELP. I have to aide and abet for it to happen (barring some medical catastrophe).

    Coconut Milk

Avoid the coconut milk. High fat, high calories & lower protein & more carbs than cow’s milk. Not worth it during your weight loss stage. My niece started drinking and cooking with coconut milk because of it’s heavily promoted ‘healthy’ benefits. She put on weight and her skin broke out in terrible acne. Stopped using it & her skin cleared up & she lost weight. Personally I hate the taste of it. I had it once & found it way too rich & caused me many issues with my sensitive digestion. Lot’s of other milk alternatives if you don’t want to use cow’s milk.

    post VSG CO2 gas pain

I experienced horrible gas pain in my shoulder after my gallbladder surgery so I was extremely concerned about this one. I was prepped beforehand that the best way to avoid gas accumulation was to walk. The gas actually releases from your skin. I was up immediately after surgery walking the halls of the hospital. It made a huge difference, no gas, and really helped me with my healing. Just add a little more distance each time you go. I thought I was never going to be able to handle the walking that quickly, but it really was not bad at all.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

yeah...LOLOLOLzzz I must confess, I am a sucker for crispy skin...maybe I'd have to cook the meat and the skin separately then. There have been frozen turkey turkey breasts on sale for a while now since my own Thanksgiving so am going to try this out

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

They came skinless. I think if it had skin, it would be very unappealing flabby. I'm not sure how much broil time it would take to crisp it up.

    Going out to eat...

I eat out quite frequently as that was always my lifestyle. Just approach it entirely different now. Been going out since 5 weeks out. Greek is easy & go often. Initially had side of hummus. Other times soft gyro meat with tzaziki & a bit of tomato & cucumber with no skin. I always order from appetizer menu or sides & can always find something. My spending @ restaurants now is crazy. Where I used to spend on average $25-$40 now spend under $10! At Italian got side meatballs. Sports bar cup of chili. Sashimi @ sushi. Ma Po Tofu or Eggplant with some protein in garlic sauce @ Chinese. When in doubt I google if ok. Never feel cheated out that can eat & enjoy with friends. Besides it’s not just about the food. It’s also the company & possible ambiance of restaurant. Good luck!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Good for you! You look great, and i always appreciate hearing from another guy who has had the surgery. We have similar paths. I started at 250 in February and am down to 137 as of today, which is honestly a bit lower than I'd like to be. However, I've been bouncing around this weight for a month, so I guess it's where I should be. I can eat limited quantities of almost anything--and I have been in order to increase my calories. I can comfortably wear size 30 pants and small or medium shirts, depending on the style. Wonderful, isn't it? The only thing we don't have in common is saggy skin--as in, I have lots of it. The difference is that I'm 60 and was fat for decades. Kudos to you for doing something about your weight earlier than I did!
  18. @Rolltide87I think I was pretty lucky with the recovery. I was up and walking right away and didn’t have too many issues with gas. The only pain I still have is soreness from bending too much. I’ve been active since I’ve been home (spent two nights in the hospital). What I’m struggling with is the transition to purées. I had no problem with liquids but I think I’m eating too fast and thus have dumped the three days that I’ve had purées. Not fun. I’m also not really loosing any weight.... I’m only down six pounds since the surgery. I know it will come but I thought I would have seen a few more pounds initially. Makes me wonder if I’ve hit the ‘three week stall’ that I’ve read about a wee bit early.

Insurance and body lift ... IT'S A JOKE

Basically the way it works here is that if insurance agrees that is medically necessary they will cover it. They have a rate at which they "deem the procedure" to be worth. For example a panniculectomy and tummy tuck would get paid out around $1,200. Additional thigh skin and buttock skin might add another $1,000. So even if the surgeon charges $22,000 insurance is only paying them around $3,000. The rest is the patients responsibility. They won't do it without cash in hand.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Figured I’d check in. Started at 255 in Feb, Down to 169 this morning. I pretty much can eat anything these days. Life is good, had this surgery to fix GERD, and i have no more issues with GERD. The weight loss has been a solid positive side effect. I am very fortunate that I dont have any skin sagging issues. I guess being 37 helps with that. I’m wearing size med/small shirts and size 32 jeans/shorts. I’ve been fluctuating at this weight for a month, seems stable, and don't really watch what i eat, and am obviously limited on how much i can eat. Life is good, this surgery was life changing, and all my labs are way down in the good ways.

Insurance and body lift ... IT'S A JOKE

Chronic not life threatening. Chronic as in long term/consistent skin rashes or other medical issues due to chafing skin. It isn't that difficult if there are documented medical visits to substantiate the issues.

Insurance and body lift ... IT'S A JOKE

In Australia, it doesn't have to be a life threatening issue around excess skin but there does need be a chronic medical issue caused by the excess skin. Here is a weight loss surgeon who also does what he calls body contouring where it is covered by medicare/PHI. https://www.anthonyclough.com.au/body-contouring-surgery.html Another lady I know on an FB group had her arms done under medicare.

Insurance and body lift ... IT'S A JOKE

Yeah here in Australia it's near impossible to get any skin surgery of any kind unless in urgent medical necessity like life threatening otherwise insurance calls it plastic surgery.... I'm lucky I'm young and only need to lose around 120lbs so should be fine
  25. I’m doing RF therapy as well. I don’t want to go down the route of face lifts, Botox or fillers - I don’t like that strained look people get but that’s my personal opinion no offence to those who go down that path. I can see some improvement with the RF but it’s a long process with follow-up maintenance after the intensive weekly program. It’s supposed to stimulate collagen but takes a couple of months for that to kick in. A friend tried skin needling which is supposed to stimulate collagen as well. She says she can’t see any difference though I think her fine lines have reduced.
