Need advice from anyone 6 month out from revision lap band to RNY
Banded0811 replied to Banded0811's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thank you so much for your response. It’s what I needed to move forward. Now if my mom an stay stable this week, i think I’ll be fine. One more question, did you tell extended family members about your surgery? I told my daughter and son and both think I should try harder to loose weight on my own. I have not said anything to any of my siblings as I really don’t want their advice and options. My husband is very supportive and feels it important that I get the weight off. We have so many future travel plans as we move into retirement. -
Trying to winterize for our Christmas vacation. Cool weather gear was the last remaining clothing to be replaced... Except for this oversized white cotton channel sweater (1X) - I just cannot depart with it yet. 6 pounds to goal. Once loose skin is addressed in the mid-section... these new sweaters should fit better!

i cant speak for anyone else yes depression is a big part of why i was obese and tried to hide behind it for 40 some years anyone who knew me would say i was very comfortable in my own skin as an obese man and very confident almost cocky it has taken so much head work and redirection of emotion to keep this going with out falling into old habits and going backwards ps i was never really comfortable in my own skin still working on that daily -
Love that people are comfortable in their skin and rock fantastic clothing. I'm also ok with my flat butt. I’ve always been self-conscious about my chest. I’m working on not giving a damn *lol*

Even during transition, get a supportive, well fitting bra. Sports bras will work but get fitted. You don’t want to add to the saggy baggy boobs by wearing loose bras too. Only buy a couple (one you’re wearing & one in the wash) and look out for sales & special deals. After suffering back pain from my too large & non supportive bras, I splurged on some new (though pricey) much prettier underwear. Made me feel & look better & no more back pain. Just had to buy another lot of new underwear in a smaller size. I’ve gone from 18F to 14F to 10 FF/G. Hopefully that should be it now. Donated my too big bras to St Vinnies.

Well....I'll be candid. When I was fat, I was always taken for about ten years younger than I was, but now people guess my true age (60). It has a lot to do with the "haggard" look caused by sagging skin after the weight loss. I told almost nobody about my surgery. When I met friends whom I hadn't seen in a long time, some of them didn't talk about my weight loss because they thought I was sick. (I did survive cancer a few years ago, so I think some people were afraid it had come back.) I now proactively tell friends that my weight loss was intentional--and it was the result of lots of hard work on my part (which is definitely true). I'll let the women on the forum address the pancake boob issue. I can say that my former man-boobs sag down to the bottom of my rib cage.

Has pain in my back and stomach

Walk walk walk. That's what I was told. The gas releases through your skin the more active you are the better you will feel. I hope you feel better had bad gas pains after my gallbladder surgery it was awful. Made me determined not O have it after this surgery. Do you still have your gallbladder? Back pain can be attributed to gallbladder or kidney stones too. 9 days out is a little unusual for gas pains. -
Wow! So I hear ya. And understand! I don't want to sound as if I'm dismissing your ultimate goal. Cuz I understand having a driving focus. But as the others have said, "Wow and congrats!!!!" 174lbs in a year is PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!! Please take some time to embrace your accomplishment!!!!! At 384lbs down to 210lbs, the reality is you probably have quite a good amount of excess skin left? Also you don't mention if you are female or male? What height? Have you had a DXA scan to see how much fat to lean body mass you have? I can also assure you that your surgeon is gonna be super happy with your progress!!!! And just because you are 12months, doesn't mean the party is over! I'm 21 months almost 22 months out and I can still lose. I'm at 131.2lbs this morning down from 287lbs recent high weight. The last 20lbs are the HARDEST to get off. I had to totally bear down, do IF, eat ridiculously lean and clean and not party in order to do it and it still took as long as it took to lose the first part! Continue to work your plan. Take the stress off yourself. You body has its own timeline. It won't be rushed. But you do your part every day with building new relationships with food, eating right, getting your fluids, your vits, and exercising and you will get there!!!

She's workin it! Orange is definitely one of your colors with your pretty skin tone.

Who I chose as my Dr in Mexico

Hi, i think the swelling in the abdomen was manageable. While waiting at the airport i walked around more than sat.knowing it would be hard to get up in the plane. I would find extra loose britches not just comfortable, to wear home. The airport checks you over real well with all the bandages around the waist.🤪 Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Why do I still see a larger woman? Today i woke up at 141.4.... Loose size 6 slacks and i still feel not thin enough. What is wrong with my brain???? Most people would love to be a size 6..... I still see size 10-12.... I know, i should be grateful that i'm not the size 20+ i use to be.....

@tal 70 lost in five months is fantastic. 65 pounds to go. You never know where exercise can take you. Be open to the possibilities. find what you enjoy and be consistent. Use it as “me time” and self care. (Don't let anyone interrupt) It’s another way to develop healthy habits. You can use it to replace stress/emotional eating and process life’s issues. Start slow and build up. What gets you motivated to workout?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Exercise is a choice. The next the next seven month are going to go by if you workout or not. Decide where you want to be in your first year. Some days I need perspective, not motivation. A cancer patient with three months to live would gladly trade places for our weight loss struggles. If you workout during the winter, what could your body look like by summer? Motivation to exercise can be hard, bariatrics is hard and being obese is hard. Choose your hard. Exercise will compliment your weight loss. For many of us, the last 20lbs are difficult to lose. Each month’s choices are the next month’s body. Weightlifting (gym or home) can help fill the loose skin a bit. If it’s important to you, you will find a way to get it in. If it’s not you will find excuses

I went to my Pre-Op appointments yesterday and learned that the VA no longer covers cosmetic plastic surgery. Because I scheduled my surgery previously, I am still in, but they will not do a fat transfer to the breast because it is purely cosmetic. I have loose skin and need muscle repair (the Dr. said my separation isn't that bad) and they justified the thigh liposuction by documenting chaffing. The Dr. was like "your thighs rub together and get irritated right?" On the plus side they are going to liposuction inner and outer thigh, which according to my DEXA scan is where I carry the majority of my fat. My weight has maintained between 140-145. I also learned that I will have 3 surgeons and an attending, I met 2 of them, but the 3rd was with another patient and I had another appointment I had to get to. The whole thing will be same day surgery, I will have drains. I guess if I end up with a lot of loose skin on my thighs I can always pay to have it removed later if I choose. Or maybe the pendulum will shift and the VA will cover it again. They did not cover my gastric sleeve surgery, but they did cover it for some VA patients. It is a weird system, I am a little disappointed about not getting some fluff in my breast, but I am going to make sure they cut off the teeny tiny skin tag I have growing on my rib cage so I can get my monies worth (haha). Getting this much done is an unexpected blessing. I still can't believe this opportunity arose because I injured my knee when I was fat. No one wanted to take the cyst out that formed around the bone fragment (orthopedics said I was born with it). When I lost the weight it really stuck out and I kept bumping it on things, my Doctor sent me to dermatology who then sent me to plastic surgery. This is when I learned that because of my weight loss I could get surgery. I am also thankful for all the input on this site and others who have shared their stories and given some much needed advice. I will post some before and after pics, but I don't own a bathing suit, so I am going to have to think about what to wear...

I’ve always had thick hair so I didn’t think loosing someone would be a big deal but I’m loosing quite a bit now

I had surgery March 27,2019. I didn’t experience a lot of hair loss I noticed there was a little more when I would wash my hair but nbd. Now I’m 8months out(approx not to sure exactly didn’t wanna do the exact math) and my hair is noticeably thinner I eat and drink my daily protein and take all my vitamins everyday. So I don’t know why I’m now loosing hair. Has anyone found anything that helped hair loss? Any products or shampoo/conditioner sets to help regrow/lengthen/thicken hair? Any help is appreciated. First photo is when I was 300+lbs second was yesterday. It looks worse in person the photo doesn’t really do it justice.

HELP.. WORKING OUT AFTER REACHING GOAL..need advice!!
Healthy_life2 replied to New&Improved's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Happy Tuesday, @Superman84 You have come along way. Congratulations on goal. Working out will compliment losing your last pounds. It also increases serotonin levels. It helps with anxiety and depression. You don’t have to leave home. You can purchase dumbbells and other equipment at thrift stores. If you want to try a gym. Ask the staff what time frames a small number of members are working out. Invest in headphones to tune out others. Members are working on their own goals, they are not watching what you are doing. Staff are there to help you with equipment etc.. It sounds like you are fortunate to have a small amount of loose skin. Muscle has helped to fill out the skin a bit. The only way to get rid of it is plastics. I agree with @AZhikercreams don’t work. You can google dumbbell and body weight routines at home. Here is a link to other resources. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/429185-weightlifting/?tab=comments#comment-4830285 -

HELP.. WORKING OUT AFTER REACHING GOAL..need advice!!
AZhiker replied to New&Improved's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Creams and wraps are not going to help - don't waste your money. Getting into an exercise routine is important - you don't have to go to a gym to tone your muscles. I do an upper body routine with weights and pushups, a leg routine, and stair climbing - all without a gym. The muscle toning is noticeable. There are lots of resources on line to give you ideas of some exercises you can do with weights. Healthy_life2 posted a number of great resources yesterday. Check them out, But the most important thing is time. In 6 - 12 months, your skin will look better. Losing a lot in a short time will result in lots of sags, but give it time and the skin can rebound a bit. My "batwings" were really ugly after I lost 100 lbs, quickly, but are hardly noticeable now, a few months later, and I am 63. The bottom line, however, is that you have to build exercise into your lifestyle if you want to keep the weight off and get as healthy as you can. Exercise improves metabolism, cardiovascular health, blood sugar, cholesterol, and mental health. -
HELP.. WORKING OUT AFTER REACHING GOAL..need advice!!
New&Improved posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hey there need some advice from actual fitness people or those who were able to have some kind of success to tone or tighten even a minimal percentage of your loose skin? I'm currently 96lbs down and still plan to lose 25-35lbs. Throughout my journey I've really been concentrating on protein and fluids and losing weight pretty consistently at 1 lb a day. Time had flown by and I've just noticed my arms underneath are sagging and a little around my breast/chest area.. I'm admit my fitness and activity level has been low the whole time.. I suffer from social anxiety don't leave the house much... Anyway my BIG question is: is there any chance of me joining a gym or getting a decent piece of equipment or doing strength training which will make any difference at all to the skin under my arms? Like even a small amount? Like if I really start doing weights or dumbbells? The skin isn't a big deal but if I plan to go to the beach eventually after losing the 120-130lbs ? Or should invest in some special cream or one of those body wraps... I know this has probably been asked before? But I plan on starting something soon to help build muscle and if that helps I do not know. I am in no way a fitness person..... Thanks everyone....- 9 replies

Well yesterday I went bra shopping. Again. I could put pleats in the cups of the new ones I’d bought just three months ago so it was back to the department store. Foolishly I wore a dress so spent an hour in the fitting room wearing only my knickers as two fitters (yes it took two of them) ran back & forth with different bras to try. Those full length mirrors & fluorescent lights are super unflattering on the loose skin. Yikes!
Of course I’m between cup sizes & deflated at the top so only two of the most expensive brands around would fit me. At least a couple I bought were on sale. Sigh.
So I’ve gone from a 18F to a 14F to now a 10FF/G. At least I’m in two hook bras again and not the clumsy three & four hook ones. They are soooo much prettier (all lacy & fine mesh - ooh la la).
I really need to buy new knickers too - those old size 16 boy legs are like loose legged shorts now - but I’m just not sure what size. Plus after buying the new bras I can’t afford to buy knickers yet lol!

7 months out and down 100lbs (same as my 6 month update) but the inches are coming off. My size 38 jeans that I bought a month ago are too loose and Im into 36s for the first time since my senior year of high school. I can say my mind doesnt revolve around the surgery or weight loss like it did. Before I put any food or drink into my mouth I do have that immediate reminder. Occasionally my eyes are bigger than my stomach but the sleeve stops me. I have the occasional snacks here and there but I keep it in check and sizing is tiny. Still not exercising as much as I should and I continue to be frustrated with my self for failing at this. At this point I would be happy to see 1lb a week so I am at goal weight by March but if this is the end of the road I know the only way lower will be to exercise more regularly. For you veterans out there is this what maintenance mode feels like?

I'm looking to start weight lifting to build muscle and cut down on skin sagginess. No idea where to start though. I'd like to work the following muscle groups, likely 2-3x weekly? Biceps, Triceps, Rhomboids, Abs, Pecs, Thighs and Calves. I have small weights (think 1-2 pounds) and a bungee type system but I'd be willing to invest in joining a gym or some free weights, I just don't know what kind of plan to follow to do this right. I currently walk 2+ miles about 3-4 times a week and do barre 2x a week.
