    4 Month Update!

Congrat's to you on your successful weight loss. I hope all goes well with gaining your muscle back. Sorry to hear that you lost some in the process. Hopefully, others will learn from your mistake.
  2. heeey lap band fam im new to all this so ill make it short and sweet like my self lol. im not banded yet but my date in set for jan 19th 2011 im having it done in TJ by dr. Rodriguez. Im so nervous about the whole thing iv talked to a ref list from beliteweight of people who have been banded and some of them told me they lost very little weight. To be honest thats a huge worry for me seeing as though im a broke college kid who scrimpt and saved for this sugery. Another concern is the fact they they are going to use some type of surgical glue to close the incetions, but the main thing i really need your guys help with is the pre and post op diet.

My journey after 6 weeks of surgery

What does a day of your eating look like? 50lbs is a lot to lose? What is your starting weight? <<<hugs>>>
  5. Hello everyone. It's great to find this website. I was banded on July 6, 2009 so I am nearly 1.5 years post surgery. So far, it has been good in that I have lost now 94.5 pounds with about 60 more left to lose so I have absolutely no regrets about this. What I struggle with is looking at what is yet undone/unachieved and wondering if I have the emotional & physical stamina to keep on doing what I need to do to get the rest of the weight off vs to I just give in and accept this current weight as "good enough". Has anyone else found themselves in this place and if so, what did you do?

    10 months post-op

I had lap band surgery 10 months ago. I start weight was 257, as of today, I weigh 195. My surgeon is Dr. Adeyeri. My concern is that there are no support groups that meet during the day, and I'm starting to get off track. Any suggestions.
  7. i had my lap band on 2/15/11. I have lost onley 4 pounds so far in the month of march. It is kinda frustrating, I am eating just what i am supossed to. I have not cheated once since i started. I have lost a total of 30 pounds but it was mostly in the first month. Sure could use some advise.... thanks
  8. Hello everyone. I am so excited to find a website with others that have one common interest as I do. I am still in the Pre-Op stages of my lapband journey and I am still waiting to hear from my doctors office whether or not I am approved. After researching for a year, I finally made my first appointment in January with my surgeon. To me this is such a scary process even though I know that this device is gonna help me toward a more fullfilling life. I have a lot of weight to lose and some have told me that lapband is not the one I need, but I just need something to help me lose weight not do it for me totally. So this is me: Age 27 Weight 350 Goal 150 Surgeon Dr. Paul Enochs (Bariatic Specialist of North Carolina in Cary, NC) Nice to meet you all, FeFe
  9. I had the lapband surgery about 2 years ago. I started off losing weight pretty well, but then I got seriously burned and was put into the hospital for almost a month. While I was in there, the doctors had to take the fluid out of the band in order for me to be able to consume more food and nourish myself back to health. I have been back to my bariactrics doctor a few times and they have replaced some of the fluid. I don't know what it is, but I am still able to consume about the amount of food I was able to before the surgery. My weight loss has leveled off, and I haven't been losing any weight for a good while now. I haven't gained any, which is kind of good, but I also haven't lost any. My total loss so far is about 80 lbs. I probably need to lose about another 100 to get to my goal weight. My knees and back have started hurting very badly, and I am pretty sure it is because of my weight. I don't know what to do about this. I would appreciate some advice on this.
  10. I want to have Weight Loss Surgery because I want to be healthy! I feel this may be one of the most selfish things I’m attempting to do in my life. Because I know it is SOLELY for me! I know that I have unconditional love from my husband and three little girls. But I want to be thinner! I am not hoping to be a size 2 or wear a bikini - I just want to feel healthier and have more energy. I know that I have been fortunate so far not to have any major health issues due to my weight. However, I am VERY overweight and have tried diets, exercise programs and have read many books. I want to be a good example for my girls on how to eat healthy and live an active lifestyle. I am a Middle School teacher. I spend 3 hours of my day walking around our very LARGE building. I get 60+ minutes of walking in everyday! I don’t want to be winded walking up the stairs, I don’t want my feet to hurt, and I especially don’t want to feel self-conscious walking around the building. I feel I am a fairly confident person once I get to know people. However, I am tired of being “the fat girl” in my group of girlfriends. I have a younger sister who is tall and thin. I am tired of being “the fat sister”. Every time my husband and I go out to a party, to a wedding or even just to dinner – I ALWAYS feel self conscious about my weight. I have a wonderful life – except for my weight. I know that WLS is not a quick fix. I know it will be tough and take a lot of work on my part. But I want to be healthy and I can’t do it on my own.

    Had Gastric Bypass 6/28/12

I think everyone loses weight at a different rate. It depends on somewhat on your starting weight. Just make sure you are eating healthy and focus on protein and fluids first, low carbs. Go by Dr. Recommendations and exercise! You will do great.

    Haven't decided yet

you came to the right place for advice. I have had the band since July and saw the doctor yesterday and he said I have lost 60% of my body fat and he is thrilled. I have lots of energy. Before the band I took a 2-3 hour afternoon nap and now I don't at all unless I am not feeling well. I can walk around a mall or large store without getting tired. I have bad knees and a very bad back and I still fine as long as I don't stand in one spot for long. In the past I never could accept comments on losing weight and this time I am doing great. Most people don't know about the band, family and very close friends do. Buying smaller sizes and not in the 'Fat' department is super and less expensive. I am off all meds except vitamins and minerals which you need to take for life Good luck with your decision. Have you gone to a meeting yet where you would have the surgery? They are wonderful. I love my monthly support meetings and went to those for many months before the band, also.

Hi im new my sleeve is may 31

First of all, Welcome to the site Jr. I know what you mean Bro, It seems like it is always easy for people that have never been fat to say..." Just watch what you eat and excersise"...Yeah right! We have all tried that and it has failed us more than once or twice in our life. Don't let no one discourage you because at the end of the day....it is YOU who has to feel all the discomfort and it is YOUR health....NOT theirs. Trust me, they won't be able to stop giving you compliments after you lose the weight. Good luck bro, and God bless!
  16. I have not been sleeved yet but I often sit and think about how much different my food choices are going to be at home for me and my family after being sleeved. I not only want to eat healthier and smaller portions but I want them to as well. I think its so important to teach kids while they are young not to overeat and the make healthy food choices. (married and mother of 2 boys 9&3) I try to cook healthy meals and my kids eat veggies and fruits like they should but they also eat junk on occasion when I start eating terrible again after another failed diet attempt. I have noticed that my kid's appetites are getting bigger and I haven't been telling them no on seconds. They see Mom getting more food and they want more too. It is fact that your kids do pick up your habits and do what they see and what they are taught. I just recently took my 9 year old in for a check up and he is about 5-10 lbs overweight, the doctor says that nothing he can't grow into and did seem to be worried about it. I almost broke down crying... I thought to myself what are you teaching these kids? My son the last couple months has been self conscious about the way he looks, he made a comment about how he was getting fat. I can tell his weight is starting to bother him more and more. I am just so ashamed of what kind of habits I have been teaching my kids and I refuse to let them follow my path. My weight has been bothering me more and more and is now affecting my children so that why I have decided on WLS. So from now on my entire family is going to start a new path... Smaller portions, healthier choices, and exercise! I am so excited about this new path, it may be bumpy at first but I know we will make together one step at a time:) So be sure to remember as you are changing your habits don't forget about those loved ones that may need a little help with changing theirs as well. This sleeve I believe is going to help me be the person I have always wanted to be but most importantly I think it's going to help me be the wife and mother I need to be!

    Minnesota Grown :)

I too have PCOS and have been struggling for years with the abnormal menstrual cycles. There has been times I gone 90 days so that is definitely one of my primary reasons I had to choose this aggressive approach to lose the weight. I'm so glad for this forum bc I've been having similar thoughts of actually feeling unsure a out having kids since there will be actually a chance now I can...it's so weird...bc i also have a 13yr old stepson and i would love the opportunity to have a child with my hubby...but I'm hoping that this year will be my last crazy "aunt flow" cycle and I can begin to live "normal". So I pray that as you progress that you choose what will be best for you and if u decide on not wanting a child that's okay too.
  18. Im 33 no kids(want them something terrible) my awesome husband has a spunky 6 almost 7 yr old son. I've been throwing the idea of wls around in my head for over 3 yrs and now that i am actually in the process im kinda scared shitless....any who I've been on thyroid meds for over 6 yrs they promised the pills would work then it was oh u have pcos then metabolic syndrome and on top of that u r well over weight for your height not to mention crazy cycles bleeding for 35-60 days an then not at all...for some reason when i went in for my first consultation with the surgeon i thought for sure they would have some reason for why i didn't qualify for sleeve procedure....low an behold he said yes that was july 25th....he says u need to quit smoking an lose some weight ....anyone else know how hard that is???? Its becoming a reality and i might actually get a child of my own(oops sorry hun ours). Has anyone worked so hard for something then when u realize it could come true u fall apart and wonder if u will be any good at what you've wanted for what seems like an eternity.....my poor husband has been on a rollercoster and he never bought a ticket!!! Thanks to all that see this and don't think im totally nuts *BUG*

    pics before after..now stalled

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that how to do it is not the problem. It's why to do it. When you're fat, the reason is obvious. With a 100+ weight loss, the reason is less obvious. One thing you might try is this: Find a site on the web where you can enter information about yourself and then find out how long you have left to live. Do this 1st for your current situation, then do it again for where you want to be. Just a guess, but chances are you'll probably add 5-10 years to your life. That may turn the tide for you.
  23. Hello world. My name is Yonah, and according to the email I received when joining this forum, it's recommended that I post an introduction thread. I have been overweight/obese all of my adult life. The heaviest I have been is approximately 330 pounds, the least heavy has been about 280 pounds, but my weight has been pretty stable for the past few years at ~300 pounds. I'm strongly considering leaning towards getting a VSG, but I also felt this way a year ago and lost my nerve during the pre-operative checkups, so we'll see I guess. I am 25 years old, and living with my parents and younger brother in Rockland County, a suburb of NYC. The surgeon that has been highly recommended to me by multiple people is Dr. Ashutosh Kaul, who practices a county away from me (about 50 minutes driving). I met with Dr. Kaul and a few other surgeons and I liked Dr. Kaul and his team the best, so I am probably going to choose him as my surgeon despite the long trips to/from his office. If anyone can recommend some closer support groups, though, that would be great. I am working on getting a college degree (I got sidetracked due to some serious family issues that took over my life for several years), and I hope to move out on my own as soon as I can. I am very interested in science, particularly biology, and I love learning about pretty much everything. Anyway, that's quite a bit of information I've just thrown out there, so I'm going to end the post here. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice you guys may give

    Lap Band & Love Life

Ok this is just my perspective. I loved my ex-husband. He wasn't romantic and our marriage was very much one of friendship not passion, and I had hoped that when I lost weight, things would change. Things changed, yes. He got more jealous of other men looking at me. But what didn't change was the way he treated me. And perhaps it wasn't fair of me to expect that, because if he had, I think I would have been equally disappointed. In the end, I left him. Because the fact is, he couldn't win either way. If he had loved me the way I had hoped to be loved, it should have been from the first day, whatever size I was. And I realised that was not the case, but only after I lost the weight. It's not a great story but I guess what I'm trying to say is this: your weight loss SHOULDN'T change your relationship, it should make a strong relationship stronger. If you can say that, then no, you're not going to change your mind. If you can't, then I'd say it may well break you.

    Lap Band & Love Life

I'm glad he's treating you better and hopefully it will stay that way. In my opinion (and from my experience), if you were having problems before surgery, you will most likely have problems after the surgery. You certainly can't make people change and begging for affection will probably just leave you disappointed anyway. There is a chance that you may lose interest after your weight loss and see things more clearly. Only you will know the answer to that. Chances are, you probably already do. I know I did. Best wishes to you pretty lady.
