    3 weeks post-op today!

This is fantastic! Keep that positive attitude bc it will get trying at times, but the positives far out weigh the negatives! Make sure you are taking pictures and measurements, and do NOT weigh any more frequently than a week at a time!

    Helps with PCOS?

Thank you so much! I will. I am most scared of the 4 month(ish) hair loss bc my hair is already noticeably thinning ????

    Excess skin

I'm only just over 3 months post-op but already with 80;bs of loss, can notice a lot of skin. So far the only skin really bothering me is the half skin/fat of my double chin that is still lurking. Otherwise at this point, I am actually excited for the excess skin- because it's not fat. This might sound silly- but right now, it's soft and squishy and is fun to touch. However having said that, depending on insurance coverage when I am ready and have lost most of my weight I might consider my arms (THEY ARE MASSIVE) and POSSIBLY my stomach (but that depends on how bad it is) and I would LOVE a boob job. The one part of my body I used to love (my big ample breasts) are now just saggy gross things that don't even look good in a bra. lol I am single, in my 30's and am done having kids- so this also plays a factor in my decision to move ahead with plastics.
  5. Guess I'd hit a stall BC that pesky .6#'s had clung to me for a month! Didn't make it to 140...140.6! God bless all, fun challenges, thank you Sarah3, gla and enjoy and Happy Valentine's day!

    Telling people

Didn't tell, thank God, as my husband and I had to listen to too much BS about losing weight and Our "diet", and we did not want to spend the rest of our life discussing our sleeve with anyone. We have too many important things to do. Good luck, take it slow.

    September Sleevers

Hi everyone! I had my surgery on 9/21/15. I lost 37 lbs before the surgery, I'm down 41 pounds and about 60 inches since the surgery. I thought I would be farther along than I am by now, but in January I only lost 2.5 bs. For the whole month!! YIKES! I finally started losing again a few days ago, so that's good. I still rely on Protein shakes, my doctor told me not to count calories, cause I should just be eating the 4-5 ounces at a time and it should be protein first, so I don't count them. I found I love smoked turkey. I'll get one and put the meat in separate snack baggies, then those into a gallon freezer bag and grab as necessary. I make Soup, eat it as a snack, or put it in salad. What I eat has changed alot. I don't care for boiled eggs any more, or eggs in general, really. I'm trying to figure out what I can eat that doesn't make my stomach hurt. Sometimes hot stuff is not good, or cold or warm. Just depends. I don't like Water without flavoring. I don't tolerate spicy things, and have only had red meat once. I found that if I take instant sugar-free/fat-free pudding and mix it with 1.5 cups milk, and one scoop Body Fortress protein powder(30 grams a scoop), it gives me a yummy 'sweet something' if I need it. The Protein powder mixes really well with the pudding and in smoothies, it isn't grainy. I'm starting to feel like a person again. I can breathe much easier, my knees and hips don't hurt near as much either. I can sit cross-legged on the floor(and get up!) and tie my own shoes. Amazing the things ya take for granted!!
  9. You look awesome! So glad I found your pic....my surgery is on Tuesday and I am fed up with this clear liquid diet that I've been on for two weeks! You have given me inspiration to finish this thing out---and hopefully not be grumpy to my family Anymore! ????
  10. All of the above and you can try to make some "Bone Broth". Try to find organic grass fed bones. Beef, Lamb, chicken, Look for stores near you. If not, just slowly cook whatever bones you can find. You tube is full of various methods of making it so you get the most nutrients out of it. Just slow cook it, if it get's to a rolling boil you can cook off some of the collagen and immune boosting nutrients, may take 24 hours! Benefit, if you like "bone broth", this can be part of your post op and you can freeze it in aluminum muffin tins or ice cube trays!
  11. I was the PTSD poster girl for most of my life. Before surgery o spent years getting emdr and using eft and other healing modalities which made it possible for me to digest decades of former experiences. I had my surgery a couple of months ago and Bc I'm so well equipped to process my emotions, I really didn't grieve the change in my lifestyle once complete. I was ready.
  12. You're right. I think if there was a huge financial strain, it would really distract me and make me uncomfortable. I've known since I was very young that I needed therapy, but have ignored it bc I didn't want to deal with my issues. This opportunity has really made me want to focus on the positive experience and depression and compulsive eating is getting in the way.

    Skinny

that was my first goal. Not weight but when my blood sugars were normal. I was on 200 units of lantus also humalog and my bs was in the 200. I was so happy when I was told to go off insulin. Good luck to you
  14. Constipation!!!! I am 3.2 weeks out. I have never been constipated in my life. This is incredibly annoying. I'm sure it's bc I'm not taking in enough water... Get a stool softener like Colace.
  15. Good morning, I am 26 years old, and I am 10 weeks out from surgery. I have been considering bypass since I was 18, and I kept getting sucked into the stories they were telling me. "Your too young" "you really don't have that much weight to lose" "if you just ate less and exercised more..." For years I fed into this, I would extreme diet. I started going Crossfit 6 days a week for 5 years and I gained a ton of muscle, but never lost any fat. So last year I asked myself what I want, and it was to be able to live my life healthy and worry free. To be able to work out because I love it, not because I'm afraid of gaining 1 pound! So I had surgery December 1, 2015. My very first surgery ever, and it's been challenging, but a super fun experience! I have lost 43 lbs. I am sleeping better, and feeling energized for life! I've been doing yoga 5 days a week, and figuring out what my body likes and doesn't like. I've been experiencing ever changing taste buds, some days I like something, some days it makes me want to gagg! Anyhow, thanks for the encouragement, and community! ????????

Milk: the Reason I Look Like a Heifer?

I am sleever. I quit drinking milk when I was a kid except for in coffee. Started using Almond milk in coffee around 2010. Switched over to a vanilla premier Protein in my morning coffee since I could start drinking coffee again. I take the USRDA of calcium citrate and eat a ton of dairy (full fat cheese, grass fed butter, greek yogurt) every day. You could not pay me to drink cows milk, much less 6 glasses of it. I would call that cruel and unusual punishment and besides how could you EVER absorb any Iron, if you were drinking milk 6 x per day? I occasionally will put cream in my coffee if out of town at conference but usually pack premier Protein shakes to bring with me.

@@libby43 - one note. Regarding you B - I wonder if instead of a B12 you should look at a B Complex. Remember - there are more Bs to consider than 12. I take a B Complex instead of just B12. Also - don't be afraid to ask for cholesterol test again. Sometimes, you might have a false reading. What was your cholesterol before surgery - have we gone up? down? stayed the same? These things matter too. and yes - talk to you doctor.....

    Mediterranean Style Eating

For me, this isn't a matter of "stop liking what I don't like!" This is a matter of someone going beyond "the vegetarian path worked for me." It directly trashes the medical profession, as well as advocates for a lifestyle that is exceptionally difficult to maintain, disregards the long-standing advice of doctors/nutritionists, perpetuates pseudo-science, and takes thinly-veiled potshots and side jabs at others. Advice that has the potential to be dangerous matters, and deserves appropriate criticism. As for the sarcasm, when you are deliberately provocative and continue to refer to meat as "dead animal flesh," expect a bit of tongue-in-cheek response. I can definitely see why the language would cause offense and it's a pity because I do think there is a good point to be made and discussion to be had about the current state of our food, the standard American diet and even the nutrition guidelines given by bariatric surgeons. I think for me I am able to look past the inflammatory statements because my interest in eating a vegetarian or vegan diet does not stem from moral or ethical concerns really. So I don't get on that high horse. I mean don't get me wrong, I don't think it's okay that so many animals are kept in deplorable conditions and force fed foods/given things that are causing issues in humans like antibiotics with poultry etc. I come at it from reading scientific research that is increasingly suggesting that consumption of animal products maybe detrimental to health. Some of the people saying this are bariatric surgeons who themselves have treated thousands of patients and have data to back up their assertions. So I get the ire, but I also can see the original point being lost in the flames.
  23. What alcoholic beverage do you drink post-op? I LOVE beer but bc it's carbonated I can't have it. ???????? I don't want nor need negative or rude comments. I like to have social drinks from time to time. ESPECIALLY since it's Mardi Gras! ???????????? Thanks for you help!
