    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Sooo, I did two consults last week. I went with the two first that didn't charge consultation fees. Even regardless of the fees, they were my top 2 choices from pics and reviews online. The good news is they both had nearly identical recommendations. They were both kind and professional, and I felt like they really listened to what I want. In speaking to the surgeons, here is my revised wants list Lower Body Lift - this would include tummy tuck, lipo, outer and front of thigh lift, monsplasty, and fat transfer for butt lift. Inner Thigh Lift - could be combined with LBL & would be a good compromise to have a concealed scar vs the more extensive scar of a medial thigh lift. Breast Lift & Augmentation - both surgeons said this would have to be a separate procedure, unable to combine with the LBL due to time under anesthesia & surgeon fatigue. Both did not recommend the teardrop gummy bear. They said it works better in theory than IRL, and I can get more natural results with traditional round silicone implant. Both said recovery time would only be 2 weeks of no traveling. So that makes it possible to just slip this surgery in sometime next year. But I will probably look for a plastic surgeon that specialized in BA/BL vs one who specializes in massive weight loss. BL/BA's are so common & i don't think my breasts are significantly different than a women's who had children & breastfed, I could find a more convenient and potentially less expensive option. The bad news is, surgeon #1's quote was INSANELY high. Like I could buy a small house in Kansas for that kind of money. Surgeon #2's quote was significantly less crazy, but still a big chunk of change. The more I look at surgeon's #2 pics, and after the consult, I'm leaning away from going with him. He only does weight loss patients. Therefore he does a lot of My 600 lb Life type stuff. He seems more focused on removing skin and fat, then true body contouring, if that makes sense? I just don't know if I would be aesthetically happy with my body afterwards. Contrast that with surgeon #1's extreme focus on aesthetics. I am confident I'd get the best results with surgeon #1, but the cost seems unreasonable. So I'm broadening my search to other surgeons in the country that specialize in massive weight loss. The LBL & thigh lift are not very common outside of post bariatrics, so I want a specialist for those. I contacted my #1 out of state choice for a consultation, and learned he is retiring and not scheduling any new surgeries The pressure is on to book a procedure. Understandably my December time frame is very popular, and I absolutely need to have my procedure done in a pretty small window due to wok commitments. I'm a little disheartened by the process right now
  2. @Sheribear68 Dang girl! You are hitting it!! I'm glad to see a Feast Day in there. I think we all need a feast day at least 1 day per week--maybe more depending on what it takes to keep us either in maintenance or in WLM -- whichever reality is ours at the moment!!! IF sure seems to be your WL friend! Thank you everyone for chiming in and helping me work through the head work on calling GOAL! I decided yesterday that y'alls sage advice held merit. So I'm calling goal and revised it in my signature to 135lbs. Now whatever happens will happen. I will work to maintain and not regain. My 5lb window will be set between 130-135lbs. I know that sounds like it's only a "reframe" of goal 130lbs. But it's baby steps. I may later decide to make my 5 lb window be 135-140. I just know I feel better under 135. (Yes, I can feel those extra 3 lbs lol.) I actually made Goal #3 (135lbs) in July! I went back and looked when I first hit 135lbs. So I'm claiming GOAL! And I'm going to allow myself to celebrate the accomplishment!!!! TYTYTYTY for the encouragement and love!

    Sleeve revision

What type of revision did you have?
  4. I am wondering about these same questions. I too am revising on 9/12 due to gerd. One of the things that I do worry about is that section of stomach that can no longer be accessed. Anything happens in there and it would likely be awhile before it was found. I am so sorry that you are going through this but so glad that the cancer was found early. I too am dreading the darn liquid diet all over again. We have to remember that it is temporary though. I am going to follow your journey and wish you well.

    You asked for it!

Thanks Alex! I'll be having open revision surgery soon, due to a major obstruction and some ulcers + sliding hiatal hernia repair and adding a feeding tube. So, thank you for sharing your photos of your open surgery... eases my mind knowing that someone I know has already gone through it — you are a warrior!

    Time lapse photo journal

Try an app called "1 Second Everyday: Video Diary" — You can do photos too. It does exactly what you want. Sends you reminders. You'll find some samples on YouTube for inspiration — haven't found any that are weight loss related though. I am planning to do the same as well. Scheduled for revision on 9/9/19. Can't wait to see yours and share mine!

Ok. Seems I misinterpreted how that was written and your revision process is different than what my Dr. is recommending for me. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I clearly said "revision of the sleeve & SA-DS" so, yes, the surgeon "touched" the sleeve. Considering I suffered with chronic constipation for 60+ years, "the bathroom" as not returned to "normal," whatever that is. The diarrhea is not occasional, it's several times a week &, usually, I cannot pinpoint a trigger. It's something I deal with & wish I didn't have to. I have not had any vitamin deficiencies. I do take 2 multivitamins, 4 calcium citrate & 50 mg zinc a day as well as additional vitamin A & D every other day. And I am certainly not actively posting.

Thank you for responding! Have you had to deal with any vitamin deficiency during this time? Curious also at this point aside from the occasional diarrhea has the bathroom returned to normal? Any foods that you must stay away from? Also did the Dr. do the revision without touching the sleeve? That’s what my Dr. is talking about doing. Finally differences between your self care/ tips for post Revision life for SIPs versus our original sleeve surgery? Thank you again for responding- I’ve only found one other actively posting person on this board with a VSG to sips revision that did not have the sleeve touched. :)
  10. I have my revision in the morning. I been drink the treatment and I only have 2/3 down. Havent pooped much or even had urge. The juice is making me gag and fight the urge to vomit. Feels like constipation. What should I do? Only have about an hour before I stop drinking anything. Sent from my LGMP260 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve to bypass

I’m right there with ya. I’m 3.5 years out from my sleeve and have my revision to RNY scheduled for 10/4, due to reflux and regain (HW 246, LW 186, CW 233). I’m nervous and excited too. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
  12. I had the sleeve done back in 2016, but due to pregnancy, I gained half of the weight back. I did a revision in July 3. I have felt like my stomach is still large and the only thing I’ve encountered is food getting lodged in my throat now. I haven’t lost that much weight... like 21 pounds since surgery revision. I’m craving all types of food and feel like this time around, it’s not working

I am 3 years 8 months out from revision of the sleeve & SA-DS & still wish I could have done it sooner - actually about 30 years sooner! I did, finally, hit my lowest adult weight of 162.8 a few weeks ago and generally stay about 165. About a year ago I did regain 25 lbs or so but then lost it, losing 13.6 lbs during a trip to Europe, the rest has just gradually come off. Of course, being older, the distribution of weight is a lot different than it was 40+ years ago. The only way I'm going to get rid of the stubborn fat on my abdomen & thighs is with liposuction. My co-morbidities did finally resolve for a couple of years after the revision but the diabetes & hypertension have returned. They are no where near what they were, though. I do still get episodes of diarrhea & have to be very careful about what I eat. All that being said, I would not have had the revision if I hadn't still had the co-morbidities.

VSG to RNY - The Good & The Bad

I was revised 10/31/18 for severe GERD. I was about 20# from goal weight at that point. 1 - complications - one of my incisions got infected, but it's the same risk for any surgery. 2 - I lost most of the remaining 20# over the next 4 months but found it very difficult because I had much less restriction with RnY than I had with the sleeve. (My sleeve was VERY restrictive and I liked that). My surgeon says that "revised" RnYs are not as restrictive as those done on a "virgin" stomach. I also found it very hard to redo all the post-op food phases because I had just "been there-done that." (My sleeve was Feb. 2018.) After the sleeve, I had never progressed past soup/stews so I had never gotten to the real "lean protein" stage. I can now eat regular meats. 3 - GERD - Yes, the procedure fixed my reflux issues. 4 - No regrets. I was on the maximum prescription-strength omeprazole, 2x/day plus TUMS as needed. I couldn't keep waking up at night with acid up my nose and in my mouth. It was going to destroy my teeth and esophagus. Gotta play the hand you're dealt, right?
  15. I started using Biotin capsules at first when I had sleeve surgery 0ct of 2016,5,000 mg twice a day and my nails which were thin as paper got hard as nails then I stopped for a few weeks totally thinned out and tearing off.Back on it after RNY REVISION SURGERY 10,000 twice a day and so much better.
  16. Yes, all the time! I am having a revision on Sept, 16th, hope everything goes smoothly for you!

    Sleeve to bypass

I am going in for revision from sleeve to rny on 9/12 due to hernia and gerd. I will be following this thread and your progress good luck and thanks for sharing!

    Sleeve to bypass

I just did this early June. I was around 5.5 years out from sleeve. I didn’t have any issues with the sleeve and my RnY revision has been equally smooth. I prefer the restriction of the RnY vs the Sleeve and my loss has been more significant percentage wise vs my sleeve. Getting used to the vitamins has been a struggle I never took them with the sleeve nor did I need them.

5 years out and trying to reset

I'm also 5 years post VSG this year. Dealt with some regain about 3 years ago. Also lost a parent, moved, changed jobs, etc etc etc. My regain was slow and I did the "I can eat everything in small amounts" thing for a while. I went crazy online looking for the magic reset button. I consulted on a RNY revision. I was desperate...then a really ugly health issue (one that I had surgery to help combat) returned and was really bad and I had a very REAL 'come to Jesus meeting' with a doc who told me some cold hard truths. I went full on Keto and haven't looked back. Got the health thing back under control. Lost my regain. The BIGGEST thing- I had to get out of my own head and realize that I knew what to do, I just had to DO IT. So I started attending support groups again, seeking out all sorts of them that were NOT affiliated with my surgeon, since I was embarrassed to run into someone familiar. I also met with a new nut. psych and NP team. I focused on my health and thankfully, mostly got it back again. I know that this will be an ongoing issue for LIFE, for me the work never stops and unfortunately life doesn't just pick up one day as a 'former' WLS patient. I will forever be a WLS patient, working through my plan, dealing with struggles and keeping the focus on point.

Peggy now that your 4.5 years out from the VSG to sips revision how is everything going? I haven’t seen anyone else on these boards that far out from revision. Any updates on lifestyle, weight loss or regain, bathroom antics. Curious bc I am considering a VSG to sips revision. Thank you!

    Anyone else scheduled for October?

I’m scheduled for a sleeve to bypass revision on 10/4! Excited and nervous.
  22. I had issues with the band. Emergency surgery to remove it. One year later revised to bypass. No issues what so ever. Best decision.
  23. Has anyone dealt with Health Alliance for a revision. Some yrs ago I had BCBSIL and they didn’t even want to cover my hernia repair let alone the revision. So here I am three yrs later trying it again. The only difference is this i Sudan remains requires you to meet all requirements plus have a complication. I’m just nervous of trying it again to be let down and still be in pain.
  24. Next Thursday the 29th I will have a revision surgery. It has been 5 years since my sleeve. I am having it due to complications from another surgery that included vagus nerve damage, in addition to severe reflux and reoccurring hiatal hernia. Just needed somewhere to share to help with anxiety. Since the surgery that caused the nerve damage I am a lot more anxious this time. HW:316 SW:284 LW:170 CW:194 Photos-before sleeve, lowest weight, last weekend I've obviously had some regain so the revision will help me get back. I have struggled with nutrition since the nerve damage. My blood counts are low and I go in for iron infusion at the hospital currently. I'm really hoping that the surgery won't make it worse! 25. I’m scheduled for a revision from VSG to RNY on 10/4 (VSG 2016, HW 246, LW 186, CW 233). Hoping to resolve my reflux and regain. I would love to hear some experiences from others who’ve done the same revision. I’m looking for all the good and bad info! I’d especially like to know: 1. Any side effects or complications? 2. How much weight did you lose and how long did it take? 3. If you had reflux or GERD, did the revision resolve it? 4. Any regrets with having the revision? Thank you!
